  1. Hi, I am new to the Affinity Photo so sorry for the basic question. I have looked at tutorial videos online on how to cut a section from a image. The two methods I found is the selection brush tool and the pen tool. Every time I use these tools to cut an image, the edges of the image that is selected has rough edges or not smooth. I use refine but nothing really helps. How can I cutting an image with smooth edges and place it in a different image?
  2. I want to outline this album image (delete the fabric around the edge) and I can't seem to do it. I tried the wand at all kinds tolerances . . . I tried the flood selection brush at all kinds of sizes . . . Either it takes too much or not enough. "Add" or "Subtract" seems to add too much or subtract too much. "Snap to edge" is checked but it doesn't seem to snap to the edge. I understand about contiguity (I think...) and have experimented with that as well. Can someone tell me the steps necessary to cleanly cut out this image? thanks, lettergothic
  3. I thought it would be fun to take on the appearance of a ghost in a rustic old home long ago abandoned by using the cutting out method. And I want to thank MEB, Alfred and toltec for their generous help with learning the method. I realize improvements can and should be made to lighten the figure of the ghost of a man even more but this is more about accomplishing what I needed to learn than being paid to produce a fantastic photo. Happy Halloween and of course I'd truly enjoy any critique offered, or just enjoy my first try.
  4. So after learning how to use the Cutting Out method from a video here under tutorials, I used two images, one was close to 1000x? pixels and the other over 4000x? pixels. After moving the cut out deer from one image to the building image, I see it is highly pixelated when enlarged. even though the finished image when exported as a jpg, was lowered to near the 1000x? pixel image size. To recap, I used an image 1/4th the size (deer) of the image of the building, then saved saved by reducing 75% and still have major pixelated deer on building. What did I miss? And now I'm editing to add I see you won't be able to see the pixelization as enlarging is not allowed, but its there.
  5. http://imgur.com/pJOriQW I try to cut out selected but if I select Cut, it cuts the whole layer! Any suggestions?
  6. I've been a Serif Photoplus user for 15 years, almost every version, but I'm struggling with Serif Affinity Photo and the help menu with the program doesn't seem to yield the results I'm after. How on earth do you cut out an image, please? I want to cut out one of my products (usually a complex shape) from an image to leave it on a transparent background which will then save as a png (in order to preserve the transparency). In online retail, this is known as a cutout shot. In Photoplus it's simply a case of opening an image, using Cutout Studio, and then using export function to save the image as the required png. But in Affinity there seems to be no cutout menu at all. And when I search the help menu it returns options, none of which say it's cutout. Or Cutting out. In fact everything in Affinity seems far less intuitive and so much more complicated. I've accepted the loss of Photofix (although I hope the programmers might consider adding it to Affinity - along with Cutout Studio -at some point at it's great for the amateur user who will probably find Affinity Photo way beyond their understanding) and have had limited success replicating the use of curves and HSL in Affinity to achieve what is very simply done in Photoplus, but Cutout seems just not to exist. As an aside, I find the instructions for use of any of the functions very 'jargonesque', almost as if you need some sort of qualification in photo editing and/or programming language to even begin to use it so I'm sorry if I'm asking for something that IS already explained. It's just that the "laymen's" terms don't seem to exist in the Affinity help section! (I'm only half an hour down the road from you Serif guys in Nottingham so it's not as if we're in different universes!) Any help on whether Cutout is available in the Photo Beta - and how I find it - would be greatly appreciated. It's an integral part of my weekly work in my business. Thank you in advance. Helen
