  1. Hello all, I've been trying for the past few hours to snap a curve to a grid using 1.10.19 of Designer on iPad. I'm fully aware of the separate snapping menu for the pen tool as well as the snapping menu but for the life of me I can't get a node to snap to where a horizontal and vertical lines of the grid meet. In the snapping menu I have snapping enabled and am not forcing pixel alignment. Snap to grid is turned on and I've tried both high and low levels of tolerance. I'm not trying to snap the node to other things as noted in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hntb-PMGUEA and I've read these threads: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/149534-asking-for-tips-about-snapping-with-curve-nodes-in-designer/&tab=comments#comment-835695 or https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/62713-cannot-snap-curve-nodes-to-grid-in-designer/&tab=comments#comment-325078 https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/102450-tutorial-for-node-functions/&tab=comments#comment-549935 I just need a node to snap to where horizontal and vertical lines of the grid intersect!. Could someone please tell me how to do this?
  2. I know this has been discussed a lot in previous posts but I'm asking for advice here rather than complaining about the shortcomings of this "feature". I've drafted the basic shapes for a design and used strokes with thickness and varying alignments (inside, centre and outside). Several elements start life as an ellipse. In removing the strokes that I don't require in the final design I often have to break the curves at intersection points. Doing so reverts the alignment to centre. This changes the design and the alignment of the graphic elements. I realise that this isn't going to be fixed so I was wondering if anyone has any advice about a workflow that avoids this issue. Clearly not using the alignment option on any curves used in a design that might be broken seems to me to be the only option. Any thoughts?
  3. I noticed when executing "Expand stroke" on a smooth curve that the resulting vector has one outside node that's sharp on the left while the right is smooth. This seems to happen when rotated certain ways but other rotations result in it being all smooth across the entire outside. Also noticed that if I make the sharp node smooth the node at the top (connected on the left side) jumps down. Screenshot added. Example file attached. Let me know if I can provide any other information. Versions macOS: Big Sur 11.5.2 Affinity Designer: 1.10.4 curved_line.afdesign
  4. @MEB I did a search but couldn't find anything... is it possible to close a curve when drawing a curve with the pencil tool. In illustrator holding down the option key works. Anything in designer like that? Currently I'm drawing the curve, then I select the last node and snap it to the first node to close it. This is a step I don't want to have to do over the course of possibly hundreds of curves.
  5. Hi all, I am wondering how you would go about this? I am trying to make a small round sticker. I want to combine the Mountain curve to the circle shape. When I try Boolean options it tries to complete the curve. I put a couple of the examples in the file so you would see my bad examples. I just want to be able to color the items independently. I understand that i can mock it up and probably pen tool all the shapes independently, but if you would have a better suggestion I would appreciate the guidance. Thanks all. sun sticker practice.afdesign
  6. Is there an option or a trick to keep the color whenever I create a new curve with the pen tool. It is a bit tedious to create a curve, add color, create curve, add color x 1000 times, since my selected color goes from color to nothing (as shown in video). It would make my life much more simpler if I just have to create a new curve with the color already selected. JkCWXsb8s3.mp4
  7. I have three overlapping circles and I want to create new shapes/curves from the seven intersections. To achieve this I select all three circles and press Layer -> Geometry -> Divide. This does create the seven curves I want, but also about 20 other curves that I have to delete since they are so small they aren't even visible. Unfortunately the newly created curves do not perfectly fit together. Now I can see the white background where the circles used to intersect. This also happens when I compound them manually. Is this expected behaviour or should I use a different technique? Thanks.
  8. I used the pen tool to make a shape and then converted it to a selection and painted within it inside Affinity photo. I did not save the selection but deselected it. I see there is a layer called "curve" with my shape in there - Is there a way to re-select it and make it a live selection again? I know I can save the selection - but I'm curious the value of the curve layer versus the value of saving selections and having to re-open them. What can be done in general with that curve layer? I see that I could add a pixel sub-layer underneath it and when i paint, it's contained to that shape, but I can't see the containing shape until I paint near the edge... Can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks!
  9. My affinity photo hangs and does not recover while making curves adjustment. I was following the steps mentioned in following tutorial to adjust skin tones. https://affinityrevolution.com/color-correct-skin-affinity-photo-tutorial/ While adjusting the red channel affinity photo hangs. CPU usage during hang. Even after waiting for 5 minutes affinity photo doesn't recover. Affinity Photo Version: 1.9.2.1035 Windows Version : Windows 10 - OS Build 19042.867 I am trying to create a repro for this issue, by that time can any one confirm of there are any known issues with version? Thanks.
  10. Hey, I tried to copy my selected lines, but i only copied the full curve. is it possible to copy only a part of it like in illustrator ?
  11. Hello all! Maybe this question was already here. The problem is this. I made a texture line curve by brush with my tablet pen. The brush style is simple, it's a solid engrave line, from the brushes engraving stack under number 3 from the top. Then I want to convert this curve to an object. I have tried it by clicking Expand Stroke but haven't got any. The curve still remains a curve. But if I would make my curve by the solid line style I got an object after using Expand Stroke feature. Please, could you explain and help me?
  12. So i tried to make a donut then convert it to curve with line subtracted in its center but i got a problem...i noticed it didn't subtracted correctly as you can see in the image What could cause that and how do i fix it (i tried moving the line and the subtrack it but without any luck.) Any suggestions to fix? Thanks!
  13. I am trying to add a shortcut for joining two curves in Designer as I use it frequently. But I am not able to find the the option for it. Could anyone help? Also is there any tool in Designer for selecting curves by attributes such as color, line weight etc? Thanks in advance.
  14. In Affinity Designer, how do you convert a vector brush stroke to a curve. Yes, the stroke itself is a curve, but with the brush applied it has texture (width, scratches, drop-outs, etc.) in the stroke. I'd like to take the "rendered" vector stroke and convert it to an outline curve (kind of like converting a text letter to a curve). How is this done?
  15. Would be nice if you cloud add modifier key to delete line(s) between selected nodes instead of deleting selected nodes when press the Delete key without using "Break Curve" and select separated curve before delete. Lot of users from Illustrator are confused with current workflow, so this could make easier for them to adapt to Affinity
  16. I have been using Affinity Designer for a while, However one thing that always bugs me off is moving 2 points from the same line together or appart. Is there a shortcut that does that? Or I really need to create a Symbol and then create half of shape?
  17. Can i dublicate a shape, that i made with pen tool, on the same curve layer or i have to dublicate the layer? Thank you.
  18. Hello guys, I just got Affinity Designer on my macbook because I'm interested in learning graphics design, and this seems like a great app to start with. I am stuck at how to cut inside a curve shape. I looked but can't find the answer, please help me understand how to do it. I attached a screenshot of the curve line where I want to cut the curve shape. I appreciate your time! Luca
  19. placed image into designer 1.8.5.703 on windows, modified size (shrinked), changed to curves, another object (like by cloud tool) in front layer, both selected and added: change of picture changes!! This behavior also appears with all other combining methods and even when creating compounds. There are also artefacts in the picture placed. example1.afdesign example2.afdesign
  20. Hi, the source is a transparent png. I selecteted the dog and expanded the selection. How can i change the mask into a curve? Any tips or ideas? Regards Christoph
  21. I'm finding shapes and the clumsily labelled "curves" features hard to use. Maybe Affinity is not allowed to implement Illustrator-like procedures, but the present arrangements are convoluted, confusing and to me, unreliable. Having discovered that shapes have to be converted to curves to edit them - then "break" them at a node (why?), I find I'm often unable to delete the node or part of the path I want to without losing more than I want or the whole object. Deselecting an object seems to automatically "select" another - can that be turned off? Zooming in/out with the Illustrator-like key combination doesn't seem to function if something is selected, which is inconvenient. I've found snapping works, but for me only randomly. As I'm migrating from Illustrator I'd love to see more illustrator-like processes if that is at all possible, and a quick look online suggests I'm not alone! I've not got far into Affinity yet so can't comment on much else at the present. And I recognise that some things will be different and I could be missing something obvious....
  22. Why is there NO "Envelope" or "Warp" tool in Designer?! It's absurd! Envelope was there in Serif DrawPlus. Creating arc'd text (not on a path) is a BASIC text modification. With all the complex things Designer can do, why is this missing? This has been requested for years!
  23. Hello! Cannot find option to convert text in curves? How I can do it? Thx!
  24. How can I turn my curve into a selection so that I can continue working with it? Or is this function not yet available?
