  1. Hi I'm on 1.7.0.120. 1) When cropping, the presets are too hidden. There is a simple solution: label the button 'Presets' instead of putting a cogwheel icon on it. 2) Adding my own presets is possible, but not obvious. In addition to how it is now, can you bring back the option 'Add Preset' in the pulldown menu behind 'Mode:', like it is in 1.6.7?
  2. I've been looking for the solution for this for while. If i have an image masked by a vector, how can i edit the vector without stretching the image? eg. in illustrator i'd use the node tool and it would only effect the frame, not the content
  3. I just noticed the clip feature which is a pretty neat function. I would like to make an unclipped version of the project I am working on and was wondering can I have both version in the same file? Do I make a duplicate of this file and have two separate files? When I make variations with Design and Publisher I do it within the same file.
  4. Hi. I'm splitting an older post in the hope that the single issues get addressed. Please let me keep the dark background colour when I'm cropping, like it is in 1.6.7.: background darker than the photo.
  5. I seem to have misunderstood what 'sticky settings coming in 1.5' meant. My workflow: 1) I open a photo 2) I crop it to a custom preset [Mode -> scrolling down to one of my presets] 3) I switch from 'Overlay: Thirds grid' to 'Overlay: none' 4) I crop and export the photo What I expected to happen with 1.5 / sticky settings: 1) I open a photo 2) Mode is on the preset that I last used 3) Overlay is on 'none', because that's what I last used 4) I crop and export the photo What happens: I still have to change Mode: and Overlay: for every single photo I work on.
  6. Hi. I'm splitting an older post in the hope that the single issues get addressed. This would not be a problem if my settings were sticky (as Darken Border is by now). I'm on a 13 inch MacBook. Until 1.6.7. I have to change the Overlay setting to None for every single photo I'm cropping. In the 1.7.0 beta (now on .107) you introduce an additional click for me, because the Overlay setting is hidden behind the >> in the top right corner. Please make AP remember that I want Overlay set to None in 99% of all the photos I'm cropping. Until then, please let me decide which settings are hidden behind the >>, either by letting me drag&drop their position or by letting me uncheck the display for the one's I'm never using in Preferences – User Interface. Thank you.
  7. It seems I am unable to delete crop presets in Affinity Photo 1.6.7. Clicking on 'Delete Preset' simply doesn't do anything... Is this something that other users have experienced and is there a known way around this bug?
  8. When I create guides in my photo to crop to, I notice they move after the crop. Because of that, I can't tell how accurate the crop was nor are the guides useful anymore. I would like to see the guides remain exactly where they were in relation to elements withing the photo. I would also appreciate if there was a "crop to selection" option.
  9. Hi I am not sure if this is a bug or feature request. In previous versions of Publisher when I placed a PDF that had crop marks and bleeds it imported as is. The last two versions when I place the document it comes into the page cropped. However, when you go to edit you still see everything. There are instances where those marks and/or bleeds may be required. Is this just a bug or will you be implementing placement options that would allow the user to determine how the external document will be placed?
  10. If you crop an image that has text runaround of a PSD image the text wrap around is lost even though Publisher thinks it's still there. Attached is a video that demonstrates this as well as the source image and page. Text wrap bug.mov Wasp leaving.psd Text wrap test.afpub
  11. First of all, you guys are amazing. Your programmers and designers have done an incredible job on building Affinity. Look like after 15 years of retouching in Photoshop I am finally going to switch because you have the tools I wanted Photoshop to have but never had, more humane and thoughtful approach to the overall design and much better performance. Now onto important requests. All these are not just vanity features but those that I came across using very often during my retouching works. - add an aspect ratio shortcut Alt or Ctrl to image cropping. I know you have a dropdown, but it doesn't help much. Choosing the right crop and composition is often a multistep process, adjusting it with an aspect ration, then correction a bit without it the on/off etc. It has to be easy to use shortcut to make it flexible. - Path blur. A complex feature, I know. something that blurs along a curve or several parallel or converging curves with adjustable speed setting on ends and along the curve. Very important for automotive photography retouching. - Same but an elliptic curve with multiple adjustable ellipses. - please add blending to dust and scratches. Right now the results are pretty rough just like in photoshop. Could be something similar to the healing algorithm, where the texture is taken from the surrounding areas, or at least some simple pixel blend to remove the rough edges and artifacts around the remove dust/scratches. - Basic metadata edit. Title, description, keywords, copyright. It's important to have it within the same software. I tried to use separate software for that but that makes it a two step process. Photoshop's metadata editor is fine but is missing spellchecking. Opening the GPS location with google maps in a browser would be handy too. Easy to implement I think. Please consider. - an option to have the layer on/off checkbox on left Thanks a lot. Keep up the great work. Will recommend you to all my colleagues. Alex
  12. Hi everybody, I just stumbled upon this and I cannot understand what this is and what this is for. I can't find it in the Designer help. It's this structure: I created an empty layer and moved an object on top of the layericon to crop it. I wasn't expect this to do anything, 'cause there isn't anything inside the layer to crop. But for some reason it DID add a crop/clip-layer to it. And it's giving strange results I don't get (look at the video in the attachment). Suddenly the icon of the layer changed into a folder icon and the childmask isn't masking the layer, but the layer(s?) under it. And to make it even more weird, when moving the layer underneith it this layer is making the first layer again.... strange It doesn't really make sense to me so far. This way it looks like we can mask layers underneath it, but is it really meant to work like this? Can we rely on this to be a feature, or did I perhaps hit some bug here? I am intrigued. Anybody knows how this feature is called, what's it for, when could we use this and is there some information about it somewhere in the help or elsewhere? And why did the icon change into a folder/group-icon? screenrec.mp4
  13. I'm a bit shocked that there aren't more people who'd like the (non) cropping tool in Affinity Photo rewritten, or perhaps it's still early days for pros to migrate to Affinity. I can't imagine a professional photo editor that doesn't require control over resolution (with built into the crop tool with a choice of interpolation type) and dimensions (constrained when they are typed in... why would you type them in if you wanted your handles to go wherever they want lol?). I don't know why I have to request such an obvious feature. Yes, I know how it's currently done in Affinity Photo, and I'm telling you that you might want to spend more time in Photoshop!
  14. Hey there, I may seem like a complete newbie when it comes to this, because I am. I'm trying to use the selection brush tool but it doesn't seem to work. With the magnetize button on, It doesn't Snap to the Borders or edges of my work. Please, HELP!
  15. Please could you make the cropping tool and 'darken border' sticky, so that they remember selections from one edit to the next. I invariably crop to original ration and darken border. When I have 20 or so photos to crop that is 2 extra selections per photo and cropping ratio is on the left side of the screen and darken border is on the right. A lot of extra work. The export function is brilliant, it remembers the previous selection for the whole of the session, please do the same for cropping. Thanks.
  16. I'm not exactly sure how to phrase this, so I've been having a hard time finding information in a search. I have an image with a canvas size of 1800 by 2700 pixels. One layer contains a photo that's 5460 x 1698. I'd like to delete all the excess of that photo. Basically everything outside the 1800 x 2700 canvas. I've tried cropping, clipping the canvas, and erasing, but nothing seems to work. (The eraser is not working at all on that layer for some reason.) My file is huge because of all this extra stuff in the background. Is there some simple way of getting rid of it? Does one of the tutorial videos cover this topic?
  17. Sometimes it might be a good idea to crop the picture early in the workflow. Is there a a way to readjust the crop later, without loosing all the work done?
  18. Has anyone else had an issue like this? I've only been using the software a few months. It might just be a setting adjustment but I can't seem to locate anything on it. During the conversion of a PDF to Affinity file the pictures crop awkwardly. If you move the cropping bars away from the picture it reveals the whole item. The strange part is the curve in the cropping window cant seem to get rid of. Is this a simple fix? Any help would be appreciated.
  19. When I have a lot of photos to edit, it's great that the export settings are remembered from the previous export. Can you make the cropping tool and 'darken border' selection behave the same way please. It will make my workflow so much easier and quicker. Thanks for a brilliant product.
  20. I do a lot of cropping of my photos. I take a lot of photos of cats and it's hard to frame the subject at the time of shooting as there is very little cooperation! Could you make it possible to set the preferred cropping format a default setting. i.e I mostly use 'original ration' so I have to select that every time. Also the 'darken border' selection, can that be selected to be either always on or off. Again I have to always select that before cropping. Apart from those niggles, you have done a fantastic job with Affinity Photo.
  21. I am trying to create a fixed dimension cropping of 16:9 or 1920x1080. 1) When I Save that preset, the pixel dimensions on next use aren't 1920x1080, so the benefit of the pre-set is lost 2) When I Export my photo, the 1920x1080 cropping is lost and I have to type it in for the second time. I'm very interested in making some cropping presets, but must be missing something as I still have to pro-actively type in the presets when trying to use them. MacOSX
  22. I must have pressed something that caused objects to be visible outside of the bounds of the image. It would be nice to know how to toggle this off or on, as I can see how it might be useful in some situations and distracting in others. Thanks.
  23. Fellow Forum Followers ! I need an answer to an easy problem that I can't seem to wrap my brain around. I have a few dozen images that all need the same help so here goes. I want to crop a section out of an image that for example is 1080pixels by 1920pixels.Each of the images are different sizes and I am not interested in making the whole image fit, just a piece of it. I want to end up with my cropped piece of the image to be at 300dpi at the 1080x1920 pixels. What is the easiest way to accomplish this easy task ? I have watched video after video and I didn't see what I needed. Thanks in advance, Jim
  24. Hi, I've exported a few pngs (not a problem to this point with jpgs) that I've then uploaded to an art photo site I use. There I get a msg saying though they accept pngs, they need to convert to a jpg to get rid of the excess transparent border I thought I'd cropped out. I've tried clicking the clip canvas command without any luck, at least in terms of my history tabs still showing the excess transparent border. I've tried to clip canvas cmd with the image flattened & unflattened, with the background layer selected & not selected. In PS I simply crop & the excess is (I think) gone from the final file. I'm not real great with PS either, so my learning curve is probably a little steeper than otherwise probably Thanks so much, Adan ps - below is the png file I've most recently struggled with, thanks!
