  1. Hey everyone, I honestly don't know exactly how to describe what I've been missing for a long time (actually since day one of Photo) other than the title. But I can try to describe what behaviour I would expect. As you can already tell from the title, it's about the Crop Tool. From certain other tools I am used to being able to click on the top and bottom and left and right centre nodes of a selection, a shape or an artboard and adjust the element symmetrically by holding down the ⌘ key. Here is a short demonstration of what I mean by this (Sorry for the poor quality, but I didn't want it to be a big clip): Crop_Tool_function.mov You could say: »Why don't you just move the active area so that it snaps into the middle?« But here's the thing: Snapping to the centre of the current canvas for some reason does not work with the cropping tool – only document edges and rulers are recognised. All other elements in the document are ignored as snapping candidates. For some reason these two functionalities (simultaneous crop opposite sides and snapping) apparently never made it into the crop tool and I really don't know why because these to me are the most basic functions I use on a daily bases – to crop equal parts from the sides or to snap to elements/candidates on the canvas. I really miss these – am I the only one? 😔
  2. I noticed this morning that the Crop Tool is missing from the Tools Panel. In its place is a blank space that does nothing when I click on it. Here's what I've done in an attempt to restore the Crop Tool: Installed the latest update Quit and restart Affinity Photo Reboot my computer (Macbook Pro/MacOS Big Sur v11.6) Removed and replaced the Crop Tool using View/Customize Tools Added a second Crop Tool using View/Customize Tools (this resulted in two blank spaces) I can still access the Crop Tool using Shift+C, but this is a real drag. Any clue as to how I can restore the Crop Tool?
  3. When I use the crop tool in photo 1.8.4, and only cropping one side, it adds the amount I am cropping to the opposite side. I have done this repeatedly on separate files. I have even rasterized and trimmed the photo and it still happens. I am on macOS Catalina 10.15.5.
  4. I just uploaded all three products for windows 10. Never had an issue with Affinity until today. When I try to resample an image with the crop tool and I change the units from pixels to millimeters the values remains the same of pixels and do not update to the new unit. Thank You
  5. Hi, I've had a good search but haven't found an answer to a problem I am having. Hopefully someone can shed a bit of light on it. If you rotate an image using the 'Crop tool' when you then use the 'Mesh Warp Tool' or 'Perspective Tool' the warp grid and mesh have also been rotated by the same amount. Is there a way of rotating the warp mesh/grid separately to the image? Attached image shows an example. Thanks in advance
  6. Is it possible to set the cropping area on an image by dragging the cursor across rather than being limited to grabbing the nodes on the crop box?
  7. Hello again! Unless I'm missing this somewhere, but giving us the ability to crop the entire document and not just layers. Thanks!
  8. When using the croptool, which I really like btw, there's only one small handle on each side. At the moment I'm using this crop tool a lot at work to crop rastergraphics of screenshots. For that I start zoomed out and work my way to higher detail by zooming in. During this proces I find myself looking for the crop handles a lot because often they are not on screen when zoomed in, so I need to grab-move the 'canvas' to search for the crop-handle. This handle is very small and in fact just a line, so it's easy to miss during this drag-move. Also while dragging, the edge and the handle aren't visible, these are only visible if we stop dragging, so everytime we need to drag a little and then stop just to see if the handle is already in view. I often have to zoom out again, just to find the crop-handle and zoom in again, but it takes a lot of extra steps and it's not a very efficient workflow. (see video) I understand the way it is build now is the same as for sizing and moving artboards with the artboardtool and also works like this in other tools. But for those we mostly work with vectors, so we don't need to fine-tune in high zoom values most of the time and could easily use the snapping options to snap, for example, the artboard to an object. But when we want to crop a rastergraphic snapping isn't possible, so we need to zoom in to finetune the crop and need to move the edges manually. It would be great if we could just click and drag the whole edge!! That way, whereever we are on the graphic and whatever zoom level, we would never have to search for that small crop-handle, we could stay at the zoom level we are in, we don't need to grab-move the 'canvas' and we could work a lot faster and keep focussing on the task of cropping. [edit] the forum is acting strange, couldn't upload the video at first and now obviously added twice the video here, which seem to be impossible to delete by us from this WYSIWYG editor?? crop-tool-handles.mp4 crop-tool-handles.mp4
  9. Custom defined & imported categories are grayed out and cannot be deleted !!
  10. Hi Would it be possible for the crop tool to remember the last used crop ratio. I always use 'original ratio' and I have to keep reselecting that on every new photo. I see that you now have 'darken border' pre-selected and that is good. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
  11. Please could you add golden ratio grid overlay into crop tool? I think it's much more useful than snail and thirds are... just thirds (somewhere on the photography blog was kind of discussion if artists really use that.)) Thanks a lot! Seems I have to switch into other software just to crop my pic (if i don't miss something).
  12. Hello Peoples ! Just want to know if it is possible to do a content aware crop or/and content aware fill with Affinity. if No ! did someone achieve something similar using one of the available tools ? Please share if you succeeded with this so can learn and apply. in case of 100% then it would be a great functionality to add. Blessings !
  13. It seems I am unable to delete crop presets in Affinity Photo 1.6.7. Clicking on 'Delete Preset' simply doesn't do anything... Is this something that other users have experienced and is there a known way around this bug?
  14. Hi, Try to horizontal align a PNG transparent image with the crop tool, but as soon as I click save the image flips back in the previous position. How do I achieve this in AP? Regards & Thanks, David
  15. Hi. Crop Tool Presets still don't work in v. 188.
  16. Affinity Photo Crop Tool Question: I watched a tutorial on how to use the crop tool and then followed the steps, but my results are different. I've attached a screen capture that shows a file that I just cropped. I clicked on the cropped image so that you could see the blue border and handles. They show the size of the original image, rather than the size of the cropped image as it is now. The borders and handles SHOULD be around the cropped image with no extra space at the top. I've searched for an answer and come up empty handed. Can anyone tell me how to do this right? I'm new to Affinity Photo, and of course, I have a work project to do (what was I thinking?). Many thanks in advance.
  17. Hi when I select an area with the crop tool and then move that selection around, it will not stop at the borders of an image, which leads to white areas at the image side after croping. Is there a way to stop the moving at the image borders, like e.g. in Lightroom?
  18. Hi, There doesn't appear to be a way to constrain the axis of the Crop tool to move it horizontally or vertically. This is very important if you wish the Crop Tool to align to the edges of the image, it is not possible to line it up by eye, especially a large image. Can we have SHIFT or the CTRL key to snap the crop too to an axis as we move, or perhaps an auto-snap to edges toggle please? Thanks, Jay.
  19. Hello. In Affinity Photo, when I use the crop tool, there is no way top align the crop to the edge of my document, Which makes it easy to go overboard and end up with transparent parts in the image after the crop. See attachment for example. Would be glad if there will be an option to "lock" the crop within the document (or layer) boundries. Thanks! Netanel
  20. OK, I've searched the forums, google sends me to tutorial videos, watched the crop tutorials (all) maybe half dozen times and still confused. I cannot make the crop tool work. After clicking on crop tool then selecting straighten, I wind up with a crop box. No idea how??? Then I can't get rid of the box. Urgh. After I set a crop box, I can never get the box to change size and constrain proportions. Of all the tools in this application the crop tool is the only one that causes me grief. To correct my problems I have to close out of the image, re-open it and start all over again. I'm fast approaching hatred for the crop tool!
  21. Using Affinity Photo to do some production work for MaxPreps Photography which requires a specific crop size and DPI. I'm realizing Affinity Photo is missing 2 important UI Behaviors: 1 - Crop Tool (C) doesn't adhere to any modifier key to keep it's aspect ratio. Ideally holding the Command or Shift Key would keep the scale proportional as you resize. 2 - If you specify a crop size you have an obnoxious user interface that turns the dark mode numeric box into a white box, but you don't automatically highlight the text. Often times I just want to click into the field and type a new number, but your UI requires that I click into the field, drag select all the text, hit the delete key and then type in my new value. UGH! I've been really happy with the stability and quality of Affinity Photo and believe that some focused user research on optimizing for user performance would give you the traction you need to attract serious customers who would use your tools daily.
  22. I have defined a Crop Preset (in pixels) that is smaller than the canvas I'm working on. When I select my Crop Preset, the crop region aligns to the left side of my canvas. I would expect it to self-align to the center of my canvas, both horizontally & vertically. This may seem like a minor request. But I have a workflow that requires a crop precisely aligned to the center of the image. I don't see a way to precisely center the crop, so I end up moving it and judging by eye where the center is. Thanks for your consideration. Love Affinity Photo!
  23. Hola ! Newbie here... Is there a function in the Crop Tool which will let me constrain the crop to 16X9, rather than Xpixel by Ypixel ? Thanks in advance, Mark
  24. Hey all. New to the forums, and relatively new to AF. Loving it so far, but I have a question about cropping. I found it kind of odd that there isn't a preset for a 16x9 crop. So I made my own, 1600 x 900. If I pull up that crop preset on a picture, how can I adjust the size of the crop, but still remain constrained to the 16x9 aspect ratio? In other programs, I think I remember it being fairly standard to hold down Shift or Option or Command while click/dragging one of the crop borders, but it seems in AF it is unconstrained no matter what additional buttons I press. I'm on Mac, by the way, if that matters. Thanks.
  25. I would like to see some additional preferences - especially with the crop tool. I often crop & straighten quite large batches of photos, and I set the output to "Original Ratio". I have to repeat this step EVERY time I move on to the next pic. This due to the fact that I do quite a lot of architecture and industrial photos, and take larger pics in order to correct the perspective in post processing. It would be a huge timesaver and make the process much less fiddly if the output ratio default could be set, and allow the user to choose from the drop down menu if change is required. It would also be very useful to be able to copy a perspective tool change, and apply this to another image. Affinity Photo is fantastic, the videos tutorials are immensely useful - even though I am now an experienced AFP user, I dip into the videos for both additional tips and ideas, and for new features and ways of working. I have now dumped PS and have move entirely over to Affinity Photo. You guys are awesome.
