  1. Hi guys, I'm at a loss. To confirm I run Spyder to colour manage my display and I have read the display calibration spotlight before writing this. However, when I export images from Affinity the colours come out wrong. See the attachement. I have included my export settings.
  2. Hello, I was messing around with Affinity Photo the other night and accidentally found a feature that I cannot find now. I was in the Color window and I believe I double clicked on the selected color and a window popped up PREVIEWING color chords. It could have just been showing me near shades to the selected color, but i definitely remember seeing "+1" and "+2" labeling corresponding shades with the actual color displayed. I was able to replicate popping this window up a couple of times before I shut down for the night, but since then have not been able to get this to happen again. I have no problem making color chords the normal way, populating in the swatch panel, but Id rather being able to see the colors before committing swatch space. So did I stumble across a little know feature, or did I fall into the matrix somehow? Thank you for your time, Dustin
  3. Hey y'all, I have inserted embedded documents into my file (layers with images) so that I can duplicate them and change them all simultaneously. I am having difficulty changing the color. Usually, if I place an image, I can select it and then go to the color wheel to change the tone of the image to whatever color I please. In this instance, when I try to change the color of an embedded document it either a) doesn't work or b) changes the whole layer to the selected color and the image is no longer visible. Any tips on how to fix this?
  4. Greetings I just created a few new cool pixel brushes for Affinity Designer. However when i tried them out I can't change the color. if i create a brush with a black .png it only brushes in black. If i load a whited .png it only paints white. Can someone educate me on what i am doing wrong? Thanks Dave
  5. I am exploring the use of ICC profiles in photo processing and printing. I have had some success, but am not sure that I fully understand why. Here is what I understand (or think I do); perhaps some more experiences users will provide me with some insight. I understand that ICC profiles describe the color space that individual devices are capable of reproducing and are applied so that one device may match another. If so, then in my system there are three devices; 1) the camera/lens. 2) the display and 3) the printer. My lack of understanding is where these should be applied to a photo file. It is possible to assign a profile to a raw file prior to development. This option asks for the "output" profile. Should this be the printer profile? That is the eventual output device, but applying it here before development has not produced a good result. I suspect that output profile means output from the development process, so at this point would apply the "camera/lens" profile. Then when printing, apply the "printer" profile as the "output" profile. The "display" profile only effects the display, how the camera/lens profile is represented on the screen and does not change the file. BUT - as a printer, wouldn't I want the screen to represent how the file will print so the printer characteristics can be accommodated while editing the file? Using the above procedure gives very good matching results, but it does not display the image as it will be printed. I hope I have adequately described my question. Anyone have some insight on this issue? Thanks & Best Regards to All - DK
  6. Hello Affinity Designer enthusiasts, I'm using the 10 day demo copy of AD.Like many here, I would like to move away from Adobe Products since their marketing plan has moved in a direction that is software rental rather than ownership. I've used Fireworks for years. One question that I haven't found an answer to yet that is related to my switching away from Fireworks is: How can I enter a hex number for a color or even rgb numbers instead of using only the sliders? I suspect there is a way, but I'm too new to AD to know it. As an example: #CCCCCC instead of using the sliders to try to achieve the color. I use the number entry feature in FWs a lot. Is it present in AD? Even if I could use RGB numbers, I'd do that. Whatever is available in AD. Thank you for your help in pointing me to the right place in this software. :)
  7. Hi, When exporting a file the other day and sending it to someone else they saw different colors on the file. I took a picture of both my PC (left) and the other. I hope the difference is clear. The orange fill of the flowers is more blue. The letters don't have the same bright orange color. I noticed that the color wheels on both laptops look totally different. Can someone explain how this comes and what I can do about it? Thank you! Nils
  8. I created System Palettes instead of application Palettes as I use the same colors across multiple Apps. The problem is, when I open them in Affinity Designer, they aren't sorted alphabetically (it might be an issue with Affinity not using the OSX Dialog Box, which I like...feels more integrated), But When you have color variations with similar names I would like them to be grouped together. I'm aware I can sort the colors within a palette, but not the palettes themselves. Is there anyway to fix this?
  9. Affinity Photo doesn't recognize the full set of icc profiles in the standard Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder on the Mac (I'm using macOS Mojave 10.14.6). I have a set of icc profiles that are color variant profiles of existing color spaces such as AdobeRGB1998. I have attached two such icc profiles here. Affinity Photo simply doesn't recognize their existence when I go to convert or assign icc profiles. For comparison, Adobe Photoshop (which I'm using less and less, thanks to Affinity) has no problem seeing these at all. Thanks for looking into this! AdRGB98 +04.icc dRGB98 +08.icc
  10. Can you modify the tint of a global colour? From what I've found you can edit the CMYK / RGB etc. values, but no tint. So if I need to globally change a colour from 95% to 85% tint I have to find every instance of that colour or am I missing something? I've tried so many different ways with opacity and tint, but can't figure it out. Many thanks!
  11. Hi folks, I've notice that beside what the documentation says, Global Colors are not acting as global when used with gradients. Since a picture movie worth thousand of words, here is it: GlobalColorDoNotWorkOnGradient.mov Create two new global colors Create a new shape with a gradient fill Set both colors of the gradient to your previously created global colors Edit any of the two global colors used in this gradient --> The gradient fill won't update to reflect the edited global color. I sadly have to admit this is insanely contra productive :( Cheers,
  12. I would like to know if there is such an option as "Selection by color or object." I need to change one color in an open project to another  . Manually it is uncomfortable to do for a long time :( . I very often use these functions in the illustrator. The choice of color and object does not pay due attention in all similar projects, and this function allows you to reduce time and money  . I would very much like this feature to be awarded, or similar to it, for example the filter by color and outline, text and so on. Thank you for your work, very much I hope for an answer. :)
  13. Hello! I recently upgraded to AP 1.8.2 (on a Mac Mini, OS 10.13.6). I find that the color selection panel is locked in the slider format. if I unlock it, I am able to change it to a color wheel (my preferred format) but only temporarily: when I leave the color panel and then return back to it, it reverts to locked sliders. Same thing happens every time I open a new document. This did not happen in 1.7.3 How can I permanently unlock the panel so I can move freely between formats or at least lock it as a wheel? I have found no help regarding this either in the forums or by searching in Google. Thanks, Mauricio
  14. Hi, Hope all are well. I am a new Affinity Designer, trying to get familiar with all that Affinity has to offer for design and the likes... So here is my question, I am seeking to see how I can keep the image I uploaded in its original color, everytime I import an image it changes to a greenish color, but I can't find a way to keep the original color of the picture/image. Any assistance with this would be appreciated a tons... Thanks...
  15. I stumbled upon an issue with ICC profiles. Not exactly a nasty bug, but an annoying condition that can lead to a frozen app and should be caught. In C:\Program Files\Affinity\Publisher\Resources\icc I had created a subfolder named "other" for all ICC profiles that I don't use. Opening a document that was created using one of those profiles causes two problems: color will look like the neon of the 80ies calling "Document Setup" from the menu will freeze Publisher I falsely attributed such an app lock to a recent OS update. But really, after putting back all ICC profiles into their original place, colors went back to normal and calling Document Setup worked as expected. My proposal would be to somehow detect documents that want to use a non-present color profile and let users decide what to do.
  16. Hi! I love Affinity Designer, BUT this problem is a HUGE headache to me I set a color that looks great in the workspace (within Affinity Designer) to my text, objects, etc. I export it and ALL THE COLORS are extremely OVERSATURATED, a moderate yellow looks like a highlighter yellow, Please fix this issue and help me QUICK! The image on the right is the one after export opened in windows photos, left is affinity designer

  18. Look like the gradient tool can't use document swatches for choose color and instead only use blended colors. Is there a way to use the document swatches? I did something wrong?
  19. I'm new to Affinity Photo|Designer and also new into the community, so Hiiii everyone! nice to meet you all! ahahahah My little problem is this: my color picker (in both designer and photo) only give-me Blue-ish colors to pick, the images attached shows how it look like. What I did so far: around 2 hours of google search, changed options, uninstalled both Designer and Photo and reinstalled them. Any photo I open stay in this blueish, my color palette only show tons of blue/pick. Guys, please help, I dunno what more I can do to fix this...
  20. Hi guys, I find the Selective Color Adjustment extremely useful with its possibility to adjust not only selected hues, but also tones. What seems weird in it though, is that regardless of the current document color mode, it operates in CMYK primaries. Surely, this works, but wouldn't it be more intuitive to have RGB sliders as an option? How about a more general selective color tool, that would allow hue range selection like in HSL Adjustment, but also with similar tone selection for shadows, midtones and highlights? It could offer a choice whether you want to adjust the selection in HSL, HSV, Lab, CMYK or RGB. Wouldn't such a tool be more straight forward than variety of different tools for the same purpose, that can only be applied one on top of another, distorting the input color for every next one? Think of it: HSL, Selective Color, Color Balance, Split Toning and Shadows / Highlights are all essentially selective color tools, but for some reason each of them lacks some functionality that others offer. I understand that they are important to make transition from Photoshop easier, but Photoshop is a very old software with legacy of limitations and concepts changing over time. Affinity Photo, being a new application designed from scratch, can be more streamlined and logical, while also supporting older Photoshop approaches for those who need them. Why can't we have one adjustment layer where all the tuning based on hue and luminance can be made in one place using same consistent logic? If you care about a possibility to separate adjustments into steps, you could just apply this tool several times, and each instance would adjust different things, but using same simple idea. P.S.: speaking of HSL, I think it should use Lightness slider instead of Luminosity, because Lightness is what L stands for in HSL.
  21. Hi, So my cat walked on my keyboard, and now I can only go for a black grey or white color. Can someone help me to get the colors back ? thank
  22. First i asked that question that question on facebook and it failed. Many didn´t understand that question correctly and told me about the basics about color-management and how that is a bad idea,...... that´s not the question. If i let´s say have a AdobeRGB Document and choose a color with the cmyk-sliders. They are clearly limited and don´t cover the whole AdobeRGB colorspace. The question is to what colorspace are they limited? I changed the default cmyk-colorprofile in the preferences but that didn´t affect the cmyk-sliders in rgb documents in any way, so it doesn´t seem to be based on that. So what are the cmyk-sliders based on?
  23. When working with gradients you may wish to save one of the colors as a swatch but there are quite a few steps to do to make this happen, and doing so will affect the current gradient scheme ie. its object. I explain further below. My suggestion is to add the Swatch Add button to the Node of the gradient, which saves you all the steps explained further below. Now I will explain how taking the extra steps to add this color to a palette changes the current gradient scheme. 1. To best explain, I begin with showing the previous color in the gradient scheme so you can see the full workflow. 2. I will now alter the color. You will see that the color picker in the HSL popup is the previous color. To make the color picker the new color, I can either drag the color picker to the Node in the gradient scheme, OR I close and reopen the HSL popup (which is faster). 3. After closing and reopening the HSL popup, the color picker is now my desired color to save to a palette. Now that the color picker has been changed.... 4. The swatches panel shows the color picker has the new color, but the current gradient scheme will be changed as soon as I click the color picker. 5. I click the color picker, and the gradient has changed which allows me to proceed to saving the swatch, but the current object color is also changed. This workflow greatly reduces the ability to both experiment with colors in a gradient by impeding my ability to develop a set of preferred color in swatches palette. • It forces me to save a gradient prior to saving a node color. • It forces me to think whether I should finalize my gradient scheme so I'm not creating unwanted swatches in my color palette. • It abruptly changes the color of my object in the process of saving a desired color in the gradient scheme. • It stifles creative development as I may encounter other experimentation phases with other objects and not seek to go through all the steps to save a color node as a swatch. thank you
  24. Can you convert from color to grayscale and/or black/white in Affinity Designer and/or Photo? This is very helpful for designing for the very few people who cannot see color in checking for background/foreground contrast.
  25. 295/5000 Hi, lately I've been using color sampling for my work, but whenever I use many color samples it becomes difficult to identify what values each swatch I put corresponds to, maybe they could have numbers or the option to put a special name to identify it. Thank you I attached a screenshot.
