  1. I've spent hours trying to figure this out, it might not even be a feature, but I can't change the color of any of the brushes I make. I tried to create a tree brush, a cloud brush and a leaf brush and they is no way to change the color they were created in. This sounds like it has to be a mistake on my part because I cant see any art program not giving you a way to change a brush color.
  2. Every time I try to draw with Designer on Mac and iPad the curves I draw are instantly "corrected" after I finish. I've tried playing with settings of the application or the brushes but I couldn't find a way to just stop "correcting" my drawing strokes. Is this the expected behavior or is there a way to disable this? Please see an attached video of what I mean. Thanks. vector brush test.mov
  3. Hi! I'm very new to Affinity, but so far enjoying it as an alternative to Procreate. I bought a set of brushes and I've had no problem installing one, but I can't seem to import the other 3? When I go to import and select my file (no problem doing this, it says its downloading) it doesnt import and goes back to the automatic pre-installed pen section. Can anyone help please?! Thanks :)
  4. I just bought the Grave Etcher brushes and when zoomed in the brushes look terrible. I thought these were vector brushes, so I'm curious why they look like that.
  5. I just want true vector brushes that are textures that I can expand to points. Bummed to learn that only the default ones can be expanded to points/shapes.
  6. I'm confused about a function I accidentally activated and do not know how to switch back. My brush tool doesn't provide its usual strokes. Whenever I make a stroke the cursor shows itself as a plus sign, a red line and a blue circle. Something unfamiliar to me and it puzzles me. Would someone please tell me what this function is supposed to do? And how do I get back my regular brush? Many thanks!
  7. Who likes to play with snow? :) This are the two brushes I made and normally use (light snow and heavy snow) when I want to get that winter look. You can also check how I made the brushes and how to use them is this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlxXqCCx9AM Hope you enjoy them, Pedro Snow Brushes.afbrushes.zip
  8. Okay so I have this problem on the latest AD version where I have a brush that needs everytime I open AD, the accumulation has to be at 100% to work, but when I increase the % to 100 and click save, restarting the AD, and it's still at 0% and I have to do this everytime I open AD to use the brush. (I have a pack from Frankentoon's brushes)
  9. Once a brush with wet edges is selected, the option "Wet Edges" in the Context Menu will always re-check itself every time I pick a brush. I can turn it off and paint with the currently selected brush, but once I change it, the option Wet Edges turns itself back on automatically. Even if the newly selected brush doesn't have the feature Wet Edges set on in its settings. I have looked it up and found a thread talking about this bug but it was a old (in the pre-1.7 forum) and I thought I should re-open the case since we're post-1.7.
  10. This really surprise me. I've been trying Mirroring but instantly I heard all the power of my fans, was really weird cause when I'm using Blender is really silent. So, I launched the task manager and... look that! All the work is over my CPU, meanwhile my Quadro is just yawning! So I wonder, if this is a this a bug
  11. Hello! I am a very happy convert from Photoshop to Affinity except for one thing: the brush tool settings. Photoshop still is a lot better with these because of their more sophisticated brush tool modification options. I am thinking specifically about dual brush, brush pose, and build up, which don't seem to be available in Affinity photo. I recently bought a set of .abr brushes to compare and contrast the import success between Photoshop and AP, and I'm sorry to say that while Photoshop was able to accommodate some really nice subtle effects (I just want a nice, natural inking brush. There are a million great "big wash" brushes for affinity, but I can't find good liners for the life of me!) that were set into the .abr files, but Affinity imported them as regular round brushes with a noise texture on them, which looked awful! I would really like: 1. to be given some actually helpful tutorials on how to create natural-looking brushes in Affinity (I've had a heck of a time trying to find what I'm looking for. People make tutorials for really silly, goofy brushes, but nothing really practical for fine art!) 2. For the Affinity brush settings to be upgraded to be more competitive with the Photoshop brush settings. 3. For AP to be able to import .abr brushes properly without cutting out the settings and ruining the brush. Thanks for hearing me out! Again, I am LOVING the program for the most part, but I'm just not able to do inking on this program to the level that I want, because of these settings issues. ~K
  12. Can I cycle through brush nozzles before dabbing my canvas? If I go to the Affinity photo brushes panel. Spray-paints, Spray 7 brush has 7 nozzles. I want to dab my canvas with these sploshes. But Affinity Photo applies the 7 different nozzle splosh shapes randomly. So I do not have any control of how my artwork will look. I can rotate the brush nozzle using the left and right arrow keys. BUT! When several nozzles are available for one brush. Is there a way to cycle through the brush nozzles and choose a specific nozzle, before I dab my canvas?
  13. I used Affinity version 1.7.3.481 for window 10 64 bit. Graphic Card Geforce GTX 970 I found this error. It happen most of the time I do this procedure. I draw some sketch with brush. Then I open chrome browser and see some web page. Then I draw again in Affinity photo. The brush behave strangely . The brush strokes are all straight line. I can't draw freely it always appear straight line. This error is resolved by save and close the drawing and reopen the drawing. Then error completely gone. Please fix this error .
  15. Hi, Just bought your amazing program yesterday and have already created several projects for clients with it. Obviously coming from 20 years of Illustrator experience there is a little bit of learning curve to get used to the new short-cuts and features. But a pretty productive day all-in-all. I was trying to use the size and opacity variance feature in the stroke/brush editing tab and can't seem to get it to work. The width works perfectly, but the size and opacity appear to do nothing. The preview updates fine in the editing window, but nothing happens to the object on the page. Am I doing something wrong? I really want this to work because I used the stroke width variance tool in illustrator all the time and hope I can replicate that function in Designer. Thanks in advance for your help.
  16. Hello, My wife and I are new to Affinity Designer, so please bear with me as I certainly haven't learned the "correct" terminology, or the names of the menu items, their locations or their options! Some background: We are attempting to take my wife's pencil and paper drawings and convert them into closed-shapes in Fusion 360 (an Autodesk CAD program). Those shapes will then be extruded into bodies and used to "engrave" or develop 3D models that can be either 3D printed or more recently CNC carved into wood. We purchased Designer, because it can export into SVG, which Fusion will accept (but not always very elegantly!). We've done some test drawings, and if I draw with the pencil, pen or ellipse tool, I only get a single line in the SVG when imported into Fusion (what I would call a pure path, and NOT a stroke--but that may be terminology from other programs). After several experiments, it appears that the best workflow is to scan the paper image into PNG, do a bit of cleanup/brightness/contrast modification in a photo editor, and then bring the resulting cleaner PNG into Designer as a reference layer. We then tried tracing out the main features from the drawing using an Apple Pencil on an iPad Pro, and can only get reasonbly good results using the pencil or the pen. Unfortunately, when these are imported into fusion, they can't be extruded or used as cut bodies, as they are a single line, and not a closed path-as-if-it were a line. (I hope that makes some sense!). I'd really like to find a clean workflow that isn't too time consuming. My wife is a traditional fine artist, so working on the iPad for her is a challenge. I'm an engineer and certainly no artist! Is there an easy way to convert the pencil/pen paths into brush strokes on iPad? I saw that a similar question to this was answsered on the Windows forum, but it's solution doesn't seem to work on iPad. I've tried a LOT of different software packages to make this a reasonable process, but haven't found one yet (I don't have Adobe Illustrator, which might be a way, but I was hoping Designer would be a better solution)--things I've played with: Photoshop, Inkscape, various environments in Fusion 360. I'd even take a completely better workflow if someone has already solved this in a different way. Thanks! -- Phil
  17. Hello everyone I have a doubt, in the photoshop brush settings there is an option called color dynamics, is there any similar option in Affinity Designer? If so, could you tell me where I find it. Greetings.
  18. Hi. I posted about a potential bug in the other section, and it appears to have been now verified by a few other users. I have both AD and AP, and both appeared to be working fine. However, lately I have noticed that every once in a while (usually 10% or time or so, although sometimes far more frequently), selecting a different brush (in both personas and apps) resulted in the new brush (in the brush list) in the list hilighting (as it should), but the brush itself appears not to change (the settings don't change, and the resulting stroke is that of the previous brush). In some instances, it would take up to 4 or so clicks on the new brush in the brush list before the actual brush would change (the hilight appears to ALWAYS work each time). No trigger or pattern is apparent. Sometimes, the brushes work fine for quite a stretch, other times, it frequently fails to switch. One user in the other thread reported that it actually got worse for them, and the issue occurs on every brush switch for them. I recorded a video, showing the issue. Here's a small section of that video, showing you me switching brushes, and it not registering sometimes. AffinityDesigner_BrushSwitchIssue_Snippet.mp4 Among the users in the original thread I created, we believe that it may have something to do with bonus content... perhaps the Daub brushes, as it APPEARS it MAY have started (for me) after installing the Daub Blackbox brush set, and at least one other user believes it MAY have occured (for them) after installing the Daub Kraken set (...although, recently another user claimed they say the issue, and they had not installed any new brushes). Please refer to my original thread for more info (from other users): I'm using Win7 Pro 32gigs RAM. It seems it MAY be a Windows only thing, althogh we are not sure. So far, the Mac users don't appear to see this issue.
  19. Okay, so I just got the Texturizer Pro 1.6 from Frankentoon and I noticed that one of the brushes is kinda empty and if someone has this set of brushes, do you have this problem too? I mean it's Frankentoon I doubt that he will put an empty brush! The brush is called FT Broken. And I have tried to restart the iPad, switch colors and etc but it's still invisible...
  20. Hello, i have a small problem: I can't change the width of my brushes with the usual command ALT + RMC + Pulling - like it's done in photoshop and i think here aswell. Does someone know why? With kind regards
  21. Hello! When I paint with a brush and do not interrupt the stroke is ok, but when I want to improve, irritating white edges appear. It spoils the effect of work. I tried to find solutions in the settings but found nothing. If I missed the problem and there is a solution - please link. Thanks I deleted "Photo" folder in "AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Photo" and it's ok - maybe someone will need a solution. If you do not delete / move to another forum section. Correction - my solution did nothing... worked once, the second time (closing and open the application) no longer ... on the beta version is ok ...
  22. Hi there, I am currently working on a project in Affinity Designer. Somehow, since a week, the app is very slow. If I draw a line with the vector brush tool, it takes about 8 seconds for the app to process and display the line (see attached video file). I've tried the following: - restarting the app - restarting the iPad several times - disconnect and reconnect the Apple pencil - checked if everything is up to date in the App Store - whether the iPad is charging, charged 100% or detached from a charger: it reacts the same - the Apple pencil is fully charged Other drawing programs such as Procreate are working perfectly, so it's nothing to do with the iPad or the Apple Pencil. The app is somehow crashing all the time. It's been like this for five days now, without any changes. Hopefully you can help me with this! WhatsApp Video 2019-09-17 at 15.23.54.mp4
  23. Using the option "Brush Panel >> Menu >> New Intensity Brush" and selecting multiple PNGs will result in a single brush containing the selected png images as nozzels. If I want to import several PNG files as distinct brushes, the only way is to select each and every single PNG file and create a brush out of it. I would like to suggest the following: Change the option "New Intensity Brush" to "New Multi Nozzel Brush". Create a new option called "Create Intensity Brushes" and allow multiple pngs be imported as distinct brushes.
  24. Hello, While retouching pictures I like to add a HSL layer on the top in order to completely de-saturate my image, as this helps with the skin retouching process. Currently though there is no way to get the brush to sample the colour of the selected layer I'm working on, instead it will always pickup the de-saturated colour caused by the HSL layer. Even when setting the "picker" tool sample to "Current Layer" this behaviour doesn't change. What I would need is an option to sample colours only from the selected layer rather than all visible layers. I recorded a video to explain this with a practical example - I hope it's clear enough:
  25. Is it a bug or intentional? Every time to select a different brush, your storke with gets reset, making it a pain to check the look of individual brushes, as they mess up the object you're trying to apply the brush to. This just in... Helmar
