  1. I'm trying to draw this tree (PSD attached) and you can see that the branches and dark grey area are clipped into the orange layer. I used a vector brush stroke to create the branches and after I export them to Photoshop, they're rasterized. Is it because of the masking or is it because it's a stroke? Also, not sure why the dark grey area rasterized as well. Are there other ways I could have done this differently? Sorry if it's not my best description - I'm just confused. Untitled (1).psd
  2. Hello!! I am starting with Affinity with the 10 days trial, so far I think its a great software! I use a HUION USB PEN TABLET 420, it works very well, but if im using some tool, like the brush, and I lift up the pen, and after a few seconds I put it on the tablet again, Affinity automatically switches the tool to the eraser without pressing any key or button. I tried to disable the buttons on the pen, but still it switches from the current tool to the eraser every time I lift up the pen and put it down again. Hope this helps to improve the software! :D Cygemth.
  3. Hey guys, a simple tutorial that shows how you can create custom pattern brushes that you can use for creating borders or decorations. My Youtube Channel
  4. When I zoom out the canvas in both AD and AP I get wavy lines when using the brush tool, not super noticeable but still annoying. But when I zoom in the canvas the lines don't seem to have this problemas. I also tested in Clip Studio but didn't get any wavyness. I use a Cintiq. Also I have been experiencing Lag.
  5. Leprechaun 2019 Initial inking This is the first in a series of videos detailing my process of vector inking my shirt design for the upcoming St Patrick's Day 5k. In these first two steps, I trace my approved sketch with a tapered vector brush in Affinity Designer, intentionally overlapping my lines so that in step two, I can divide them where they cross and delete away the excess portions. I've been making an effort to do more and more of my workflow in Affinity Designer instead of my standard Illustrator app so part of this process was exploration and trying out new tools and methods. I'm still hoping we get an eraser and a blob tool (amongst other features) to make this process a little easier. Also - the combine boolean leaves behind a TON of nodes in its wake... is that something being addressed?
  6. Hello, I apologize if this has been asked before, In affinity designer when I'm using the brush tool it always creates a new layer when i release the mouse key which is a bit of an annoyance. I wanted to ask if theres any way to change this so its always on the same layer similar to Illustrator.
  7. Hi, I have big problems with both AD (also the latest Beta) & AP: I get very jagged/angular lines, especially when drawing quickly. It seems the digitizer can not keep up with the stroke. I made a screenshot in AD. It seems to occur more with the pixel brushes. The problem is visible in any brush I pick. see screenshot I am working with the last Version of El Capitan. I tried the latest Wacom driver, and also an older one - no difference. I have no Problems with other programs, I tried Clip Studio, Photoshop, Sketchbook and Krita and they work just fine. As it is, I can not use AD & AP for any kind of freehand drawing and painting, which really sucks: I hope you have a solution!
  8. Hi! I've just installed the trial for the desktop Affinity Designer to give the software and vector drawing a try but I'm experiencing issues with pressure sensitivity. I'm on OSX Mojave, Affinity 1.6.5, using an XP-Pen tablet. The pressure sensitivity setting is turned on, and the pressure works fine in other applications (AI, PS, etc.). Some oddities are once the Pressure controller is turned on, the size of the brush drops down to its default smallest size but None changes it to the set default size (e.g. 32px). I thought perhaps I wasn't pressing hard enough so I went to the highest size but it made no difference. Lastly, it creates strange patterns if I continue to hold the drawing for a moment at the start of the stroke, which you can see in the attached image. I've tried relaunching, and restarting. Any ideas? So far, this is a bummer to start but I'm hoping it can be fixed. Thanks!
  9. Just downloaded the trial and having a play around with it. The tools I miss from adobe illustrator are the blob brush and live paint. I did a quick forum search and there doesn't seem to be many people suggesting the same tools for the desktop version. They are not on the roadmap so how likely are they going to make it into a future release? Affinity Designer is a great programme and I can achieve the same results without these tools but they would be a HUGE time saver and a deal sealer for me as an illustrator.
  10. Hi! I have a question. I am using Affinity Photo for not a very long time yet. Today I realized that if I make a stroke, lift the stylus and give it a once over it like wipes itself off. It turns white again. How can I change that?
  11. After downloading the newest beta 1.7.0.3 I noticed that the Brush related UI hasn’t changed in several years and would like to suggest some productivity improvements. This is my situation. I am looking for a way to identify and switch to a brush quickly and easily from both the Brush menu(s) AND by means of clicking a brush stroke in an image. I have at this point, hundreds (and hundreds) of custom brushes. The previews of these brushes are in some cases very similar. I need a faster way to identify a Brush that may be stored in any of a large number of collections without having to hunt for the brush thru trial and error. My productivity problem: The sheer number of brushes I have makes searching for a specific brush from among many collections an extremely time-consuming task. Here is my first suggestion: Missing from the Brush palette is an easy way to spot a brush by name. Where the Brush palette shows a visual preview of the look of the brush and a size indication on the left, having the name of the brush appear in the palette would be far more helpful than the default size listed for quickly identifying a specific brush. See example: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr04.jpg Being able to identify a brush in the Brush palette - by name - would make hunting for brushes in the Brush palette a little less time consuming However... My real desire would be the ability to do a fast switch to a Brush from a selection of the stroke that is already in a piece of art. I may be missing something that may have been changed in the newest beta - but what I still find is this: If I click on a stroke applied to the "canvas" I do see an indicator of the brushes identity in the menus top left. See upper portion of this image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr01.jpg A small preview of the brush. Clicking on this brings up a nice editing shortcut - but… This mini palette does not tell me what the brushes name is - nor does it give me an option to switch to the indicated brush See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr02.jpg If I click then click the Properties button in this mini menu I do get a more involved Brush Editing menu - But - this menu also does not have the brushes name. See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr03.jpg This is odd because the Brush Edit menu from the Brushes menu does have the name. This editing menu seems to be a different version of the full Brush editing menu. See image: http://i-toons.com//storage/adbr05.jpg Nor is there any option to switch to the selected brush from this Edit menu. Second suggestion: What I would like to see would be a way (or tool) to select a Brush stroke already applied to the “canvas” and have the brush both identified (named in all Brush menus) and the brush tools attributes switch to those of the selected brush stroke. Select stroke. Brush (tool) changes to (inheruts) the selected stokes attributes. Be able to immediately draw with those attributes. This fast switch would be a MAJOR productivity enhancement and time saver. If this feature doesn't exist - I would dearly love to have it added. Either in the form of a new selection tool addition or as something similar to the functionality of the Freehand tool or arrow tool in the application Expression3/Microsoft Expression Design. In those versions of the application, click (tap) a brush stroke on the “canvas” with the Freehand Pen or arrow selection tool and the tools attributes immediately switch to the clicked objects attributes. An example of why this would be useful. If I have several brushes in use in a drawing and want to use one of the strokes in my drawing... Just clicking on the stroke would switch me to the Brush. The drawn stroke would double as a palette and the file could even double as a Brush category - saving tons of time that is presently lost hunting up a brush in the Brushes/brush collections menus. Thanks Craig
  12. I want to use an artistic Brush to outline my text in Affinity Photo. How does it work?
  13. https://youtu.be/k38SkN5BcTA when using the vector brush it lags for a good few seconds behind what i am actually doing i have rest affinity designer and uninstalled and reinstalled and even tried the beta and it still lags
  14. Hi there, Whenever I zoom in and out with fingers on the iPad screen or any other interaction that touches the screen. It also shows whenever I try to use the brush with the apple pencil. Any ideas how to de-activate?
  15. I don't know if the problem was ever discussed on the forum, I didn't find a similar topic. After deforming a shape with a transform box, brushes in "vector persona" mode are rendered incorrectly. See attachment for three examples: 1. draw an oval and define a brush -> everything ok. 2. draw a circle, define a brush and deform to an oval with a transform box -> distorted brush 3. draw a circle, define a brush, deform to an oval using the "transform box", select the "scale with object" option -> almost ok but still not correct. The problem does not occur when we manually move nodes to distort the object.
  16. i have a feeling that i accidentally deleted a pre-installed brush under pencils and charcoal brushes of affinity designer for ipad pro. I counted all the brushes of pencils and charcoal and there were 20 pre-installed brushes there. Did i just deleted a brush? Please let me know how to restore it. Thanks.
  17. I didn't find a setting for that, so I'd like to ask You to add it: I often need to see which exact brush I have currently selected. I have many of them, some similar by icon, but different in behaviour.
  18. I know how to create a raster based brush that can be used in the Vector Persona of Designer for the IPad Pro What I want to do is essentially make a brush out of a vector shape or set of strokes. Is there a way to take a set of individual strokes (see attached image) and make them into a new brush that scales and stretches as I draw? Like a typical vector brush found in Illustrator. I don’t want to have to convert this to a jpg, then slice it, then bring it back in as a New Textured Intensify Brush. Can I make a new custom Solid Brush? I just want a clean black shape exactly like the image attached as a brush. Is that possible? It can be done in .AI no problem. I realize this isn’t .Ai but I was hoping there is a way to do it. Thx. C’
  19. Okay ! here comes the proposition or question. I've noticed everything or all tone map we apply to a pixel layer (let's say i merged visible and decided to apply tone map to it) that operation is still destructive. I mean, tone mapping is very helpful but would be great if it become non-destructive. Okay maybe i'm missing a way to do that but i always : merged visible and applied tone mapping from that thus preserving the other layers ! if there is a way to tone map non-destructively please let me know if not yet then please Serif, make it happen. Blessings !
  20. Hello. I paint in black in the mask. The strokes appears in the background layer instead of in the mask itself. It hides the layer anyway. Any reasons for that?? Tks.
  21. I've been trying to figure out how can I change width of line/brush stroke that goes gradually from 0 to any desired width. Maybe there is something in stroke/brush properties. I tried: Properties when Stroke card selected also Edit brush (preassure) So I edited my custom brush as shown in the picture below but curve still has equal width all the way. Thanks for the advices or links to this kind of issue if there is already! Martin
  22. Basically what the title says- pattern stamp tool request similar to photoshop, as an extension of the clone stamp tool concept. Texture samples could be applied to the pattern stamp, which can then be used as an overlay brush or something. I would also like for the joint ability to sample from images to create new patterns and textures to turn into brushes.
  23. After scaling the layer in pixel persona, an attempt to draw on it creates a brush-pixelation effect. Please note that this is a "pixel" layer. Already rasterized. The brush is being scaled too. Please see attached video 2018-11-15-18-44-49.mp4
  24. Hi, Just a quick question about Designer's brushes, especially the artistic ones like the 'texturing' or 'hand lettering' series. If I create something, and export the design to e.g. PDF, the result of the brushes is much more low-res that the original. It looks very pixelated at the edges. Isn't the brush a vector file, or does this not convert into PDF? I also imported stuff into Illustrator, but it's the same there. I cannot send something out for print like this. Any tips on this? thanks! rob
  25. Hi I'd like to know how to paint a vector shape as shown in the attached image, the hatched area? I know how to switch to pixelpersona to paint within a vector shape (circle, rectangle, triangle...), but failed to figure out how to paint a hollow circle ( a ring zone) ... In the attached image, I used the outer circle as mask to paint, however it will also paint into the inner smaller ring, yes, I can use eraser to carefully erase it off... but is there a way I can paint "freely" directly in this ring area? or is there a way to set up a mask for the eraser to ease the job? Thank you!
