  1. I cant apply to a path any stroke width, nor change brush shape nor change stroke colour. I can only apply fill colour. Similar situation is when I try to change stoke width and colour to the artistic text or defined shapes like rectangles or ellipses. I found that this problem disappears when I apply no colour to a stroke, and then I can apply any stroke width, brush and colour.
  2. Are other people still having problems with this? I'm using Affinity Designer on a MacBook Pro with MacOs Mojave. I was using version 1.6 and couldn't get the hardness to adjust when in pixel mode on Designer. Then I saw the update to 1.7 was available and thought perhaps that would solve the problem. It didn't. I've tried adjusting hardness both with the ctrl+alt shortcut and with the toolbar. Rebooted my computer and nothing. Reset brushes in preference and nothing. Just opened up Affinity Photo and found the same problem there. I'm using a Wacom Intuos 5 in case that driver might be messing with things. I'm not sure what else to say. I've only been using it for a short time, but hardness has never worked for me. Help?
  3. Just gave up photoshop and purchased affinity photo & designer. But when I went to work on an illustration I'm encountering. Flickering black screen Brush paint under previous brush strokes, in the image attached the yellow wound up being painted beneath the black, no idea why. Jagged outlines around the brush strokes. I have a wacom mobilepro 16, drivers are updated. So is the OS. So far this is not a good experience. Hope there's a fix? Or an explanation? Thank you
  4. Hello, While painting, one of my biggest concerns since always has been that due to the nature of the engine, the whole canvas' pixels would kind of vibrate/pixelate or move around somehow, for I believe, engine optimization reasons. While I see it fine (and common in other apps) when zooming, while just laying brush strokes, painting, I quite very much dislike it. Still, am painting now with Photo .293 customer beta, and I'm not noticing any of these effects. Has that been -happily- removed, this optimization? Or it just depends on the case or illustration, and I might not be noticing now ? Would be important to know this. Everything is working great. Is performing really (outstandingly, even) fast on a really large canvas (yes, in this bad machine). But wouldn't love to find out the "effect" appears in some situations later on, or gets noticeable then. Thank you.
  5. So there's a setting in Photoshop called transfer that I use religiously. Is there a setting in Affinity (or is a setting being planned in a future update) that I can use that would produce something similar?? I found another thread about this but I'm looking for more recent answers.... I tried setting "flow" to be affected by pen pressure, but the result is too different from what I'm looking for. I'd also be okay with a Photoshop plugin of... some sort, that might allow me to do something similar... I'm just so desperate for Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop for me. I refuse to pay monthly for something I wouldn't use monthly! Anything helps
  6. texture brushes have always been a bit of a hassle to make, and I am really digging your brush UI over PS's. Something that would be really cool and handy as an artist making brushes on the fly would be to allow me to, instead of making and saving a file for the brush head, just let me draw it in the box you have under base texture and take it from there. Even better, let me go back and edit that brush head later as is needed. This would be absolutely amazing for work flow, and it's something I haven't seen yet. I'm a couple days into the trial and loving this software, please keep it up!
  7. Hi Affinity Team, Please fix the issue with the pressure brush. This is the 5th time it crashes whenever I use the brush with the pressure activated. The crash does not happen immediately but it crashes after some time. Im using a late 2015 iMac 5K, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, 24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB.
  8. If I pick a different brush and move the cursor from the brush panel to the canvas quickly, the new brush won't be picked. It's quite annoying that I have to select and wait before I can paint with the new brush.
  9. I have created custom image brushes (both in black and in white) on a transparent background. Using the Paint Brush Tool, they paint ONLY in the color they were created (black or white). I am unable to change them so they would pain in any other color. All other brushes, do change color as expected. How can I correct this so I can use the custom brushes with other colors? What am I doing wrong? Mac OS 10.13.6, Affinity Photo 1.6.7
  10. In Affinity Designer, how do you convert a vector brush stroke to a curve. Yes, the stroke itself is a curve, but with the brush applied it has texture (width, scratches, drop-outs, etc.) in the stroke. I'd like to take the "rendered" vector stroke and convert it to an outline curve (kind of like converting a text letter to a curve). How is this done?
  11. Is there a way to insert/create a copyright/watermark in Affinity Photo please?
  12. I would like to know if it is possible to add masked options for the sub brush feature. Basically like dual brush in Photoshop or masked brush in Krita, where the sub brushes will be masked to the shape of the main brush, and won't exceed the edge of the main brush. I think the closer comparison would be Paintstorm Studio, as Paintstorm's double brush allows two brush to be drawn at the same time, and there is an option to mask the second brush to the first brush. Maybe, for the masked brush, there can be options to use blending modes when merging the brush together, as I'm not sure if it is doable currently.
  13. Hi, Lets say I have an object with a brush applied to it. I come back to work on the same image a few days later. How do I find out which brush I used? When I select the object you would expect the corresponding brush to become selected in the brushes panel but it does not. The tooltip in the brushes panel gives you the name of the brush, but no where can i find the name of the brush applied to the object.... Do you see my predicament here? I downloaded a lot of brushes and I usually change the stroke size of an object after applying the brush, I really need to be able to find the same brush within the many brushes on my computer!
  14. Hey there! So, I just bought the Grave Etcher vector brush pack and installed it. Everything seemed to work fine until it crashes the first time. Normally, I use to ignore the very first crash in awhile, but after the second and third crash, I tried installing the pack in Affinity Designer Beta to check if the error is still happening. The same error prompts (program suddenly quits). My current laptop is a macBook Pro from 2017, still much memory available and no other software is running at the same time aside from Spotify, so I guess it's not a memory issue. ¿Has anyone had the same problem with vector brushes as well? I didn't have issues with other vector brushes so far, so I hope it's not a failure of this very pack. Cheers and thanks!
  15. Hee guys, I am new here, fairly new to the Affinity Designer program. I'm running into a little problem over here about brushes. When I'm in pixel mode and try to change the hardness of my brush into a softer brush, the brush won't change hardness.. Anyone got a tip for me? Thanks in advance
  16. Yes, I know, Not a biggie. Just one for when you're sitting around, wondering what to do I was just monkeying around, playing with stuff to see what it did, when this turned up (in other words I've no idea how to reproduce it -- sorry). Sliding the sliders up and down made the blue line move, but not as they should. Only the size and flow controls were affected. The brush in question, btw, is Spray Paints, Brush 5. Edit: Having said that, I closed down and restarted AP and that brush still displayed the same wayward behaviour. Maybe because it's Tuesday and parliament is having a meaningful vote (again) about Brexit at seven. I'm using the latest beta. Extra edit: Ooh! It happens in 1.6 too!
  17. Hello, Sorry for more topics about features. Can we please request a RMB feature for Brushes? It would be good for productivity if RMB opened a quick access to the brush width , opacity, flow and hardness values? Or a Keyboard shortcut like CTRL + ALT + LMB to change the size and hardness of the brushes in real time? Similar to what Photoshop has. Thank you
  18. I created a halftone texture brush in designer but it's not working as expected. If go over the same spot with the brush; the transparent pixels get darker until it is a black square. I want it to stay circular halftone. Left: what I get when I go over an area once. Right: What I get when I go over an area multiple times. No matter how many times I go over an area I want it to stay like the one on the left. I have to start over everytime I go over an area more than once. Texture brushes should not accumulate layers. My texture brush image is included in the attachments and these are my brush settings.
  19. Paolo here. aka the picture guy. I bought the Affinity Photo app within the first 2 weeks of its release. I’ve been watching the tutorials and have been following along to learn..... But when they get to inpainting i noticed i do not have the brush on the right hand side. When i click on the bandaid, it doesn’t give any choices, and when i used help, it shows inpainting under edit, but it is not highlighted so it won’t turn on. This was one of the features i have been looking forward to most, and i don’t even have ! HELP!!
  20. Is there a way to alphebetize (or at least make categories) the list of brushes? (Or maybe I have too many brushes )
  21. Hello, I've performed a search for this to see if someone may have a solution but couldn't find anything so I'll post my question. Apologies if this has already been answered. I'm beginning my gradual migration from Photoshop to Photo and I thought I've begin to sketch out an interior space for a client using Photo instead of Photoshop. In sketching out the space I would like to draw simple straight lines as is possible in Photoshop - hold Shift click with the pen where you'd like line to begin and where you'd like it to end. In Photo it always works from the last drawn line or seemingly where the tablet has last detected the stylus leading to undesired results. Is there a way to configure it so that it performs like Photoshop or an alternative that permits the freehand drawing of straight lines without having the line begin from the last point of contact. As it stands the straight line option via the Shift key is unusable. I've adjusted the sensitivity of my Cintiq but to no avail. Is there perhaps something I'm missing? Thanks -grant
  22. I'm brand new to Affinity Design and I'm having teething problems trying to do certain things I'm used to doing in Adobe Illustrator. For example the custom brush, or a brush that is thin in a point at one end only and responds to pen pressure. Also I used to be able to draw this out neatly with a line from the pen tool and then drag the brush from the menu of brushes to instantly change the pen line to this stroke effect. What's the best way to customise this type of brush? (The pictures come from this custom brush tutorial suitable for Adobe Illustrator http://www.bittbox.com/illustrator/illustrator-how-to-make-custom-swooshes-swirls-and-curls ) Another question while on topic, I already have some brush files suitable for illustrator but wont open in Affinity, is there anyway they can work or be converted to work? Thanks
  23. I'm trying to draw this tree (PSD attached) and you can see that the branches and dark grey area are clipped into the orange layer. I used a vector brush stroke to create the branches and after I export them to Photoshop, they're rasterized. Is it because of the masking or is it because it's a stroke? Also, not sure why the dark grey area rasterized as well. Are there other ways I could have done this differently? Sorry if it's not my best description - I'm just confused. Untitled (1).psd
  24. Hello!! I am starting with Affinity with the 10 days trial, so far I think its a great software! I use a HUION USB PEN TABLET 420, it works very well, but if im using some tool, like the brush, and I lift up the pen, and after a few seconds I put it on the tablet again, Affinity automatically switches the tool to the eraser without pressing any key or button. I tried to disable the buttons on the pen, but still it switches from the current tool to the eraser every time I lift up the pen and put it down again. Hope this helps to improve the software! :D Cygemth.
  25. Hey guys, a simple tutorial that shows how you can create custom pattern brushes that you can use for creating borders or decorations. My Youtube Channel
