  1. Here are some brushes with Greek patterns. It's for Affinity Designer. Hope someone have use for it 🙂 FraGar Greek Patterns.afbrushes
  2. In Affinty designer it is possible to fill a curve or contour with the last used vector brush. It would be a new useful feature to do this with paintbrushes in Affinty Photo as well. The option field in the contours is already there, but it currently has no function. Affinty Photo V.1.10.5.1342, Windows
  3. Good day, Pmease see attached video, i cannot control the size of the brush. This problem i have already for a long time. Both on photo and designer. Does anyone know how to silve this 20220405_122834.mp4
  4. Before I begin I am very sorry if I have categorised this wrong I have gone into affinity photo version 1.10.5.1342 and when I have done to use the basic brush it is working as if there is a low opacity filter on it, I have tried messing with the settings and that did nothing, neither did resetting the brushes. It is probably some really simple fix but I do not know what to do so some help would be helpful
  5. Hi All! Thank you for having me on the forum. I'm curious if there is a way to make multiple strokes using one brush stroke, that can later be edited individually? For example, I am working on logo where I'm using 6 different colors as if they are all going in the same direction painted by a brush (Please see attached image). Is there any way to make all 6 colors using one brush? For this, I made each curve individually, adjusting each one as needed. Looking for a more efficient way to work in this style. Thanks! Karma
  6. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH When I use brush tool it works like opacity is low i the middle and high on the edges - the lower hardness the higher opacity on the edges. It has already happened to me before, but it disappeared itself. I tried reinstalling but it didin't work. I use the latest version of Affinity Photo.
  7. The first test with the 1.10.5 update creates a freeze of AP. terminated only by task manager. The beta has not this problem at all. This is thew same prblem what you have before. So its not working. also the is no error report made. Have test this also from Designer out , and also the AP is freezed up. Designer it self is working. brush 1_10_5.wmv
  8. Hi! After 3 years I finally decided to open up Affinity Photo and start to practice (I mainly use Designer and Publisher). There are a couple of road bumps that I cant seem to find the answer too. I am familiar with the brush tool and the basics such as keeping the colours black and white when you are blending to remove or add. My issues come when I am trying to add artificial light or highlights using the brush tool. In the example below, I have a Mech in a forest with the city in the back. I was able to blend them in, but I am having troubles adding the highlights from the city onto the edges of the mech and trees. It allows me to paint with any colour but they seem to be very dark. I have no control over the vibrance of the highlight or the contrast. I only have control over colour and opacity. Could it because whatever i am paining on a mech that already has adjustment? I usually add highlights at the end in Photoshop! Q1: If I wanted to add a very thin or thick glow / highlight on the mech from the city, how would I do that? Q2: Recolouring seems to have this obvious separation where the blends happened. How to fix? (blue shows through red) Q3: When I am changing the exposure, shadows or light on the mech it selects the entire project even though I specifically click the single masked mech. I then have to copy the adjustment and paste to group only the mech. Is there a fast way of only selecting mech and not the forest? Hope someone has an answer! Also, great community and great software. I've been more than satisfied for the last 3 years and I rarely have to come on here to look for solutions. :)
  9. I was wondering if it's possible (or could be possible in an update) to have vector textures applied to vector brushes? What I mean by that is let's say I create an image of dots (all vector) then output it into a vector format could that then be used as the source texture for a vector brush? Would be great as then you would have all vector throughout a file instead of some bitmap and some vector which obviously then limits how large it can be printed at. I totally appreciate the bitmap brushes and what can be done with them but for some things (for example a halftone pattern) it would be great if they could be vector based so that they could then be output at any size when exporting. Many thanks for any input on this and apologies if it's already possible and I'm missing it somewhere as I seem to be doing that a lot lately. Very probably old age starting to set in!
  10. In photo the mouse will brush strokes but not my pen tablet, however they both work in Designer. The pen also works in work ink. I am using Windows 11 on a Surface Pro 6
  11. is topic is all about keyboard shortcuts and the ability to use the software through custom keyboard shortcut functionality. With these suggestions I aim to reduce mouse movement and leverage the keyboard to alleviate muscle tension. Custom Shortcut to delete objects (for vectors), layers (including content and pixel layers. Perhaps, some may prefer there being separate options to delete vector objects, layers and pixel layers, though this proposal this particularly concerns deleting whatever is highlighted in the layers panel. Shortcuts to navigate through the layers panel by selecting the layer or object above or below. Illustration of 1, 2 using Krita, notice that I didn't need to move the mouse for this: F2 to rename layers/ objects (this is as though you clicked to rename the layer). Delete pixel layer content Illustration of 3 & 4 using Krita, notice I first deleted the layer, then undid this to show that you can delete the contents of the layer while keeping its location within the layers panel intact, as well as its name, the clear pixel layer content function circumvents the multi-step procedure of ctrl+a > delete > ctrl+d by enabling this operation with a single button press (e.g. delete, whereas backspace deletes the layer, but this should be user configurable). Delete pixel layer content and rename layer.mp4 Add new layer with a rename dialog pop-up (this is the default ctrl+shift+n command in Photoshop), which resolves the two step process of creating a layer and renaming it. Currently, you can configure shortcuts to switch between studio presets, however, I think it is just as valuable to be able to toggle between two different studio presets using a single keyboard shortcut. I use a one or two column setup and it would be nice if I could toggle between the presets I desire (e.g. to switch between studio preset 1 and 2 and back to 1, just like tab toggles hiding the interface) with a single shortcut. Ideally, you should be able to assign a given studio preset to either end of the toggle in the presets. Additionally, the name of the preset should be represented in the keyboard shortcuts section. So, basically, the name of the first studio preset in the list becomes the new name for "Studio Preset 1" in the keyboard shortcuts section and the second becomes the name for "Studio Preset 2". In other words, a list of studio presets with 1. Lineart, 2. Logo design, is listed similarly in the keyboard shortcuts as opposed to the current generic naming scheme. A change brush size shortcut (as replacement for Ctrl+Alt+LMB drag, pressing down two modifiers is quite demanding, Krita and Blender allow for assigning a alphanumerical key for this reason instead of a modifier key. It works as follows: press and release the shortcut key, then drag to the new settings (position) to confirm or, hover and click to confirm. The latter reduces muscle tension by quite a lot. In this case, it could still be multi-axis (left-right for strength, up-down for hardness or opacity). Also note, showing that showing the previous brush radius helps to indicate whether the new size is appropriate or not. Brush widget.mp4 Krita has a pop-up for the colour selector, which negates the need to the mouse/ pen to a studio panel, it is invoked with a hotkey. Krita also has a colour history pop-up, which shows the colours that were last used and is invoked with a hotkey. Though this could very well be paired with the colour selector pop-up. These two pop-ups are illustrated below: Colour selector and colour history pop-up.mp4 A shortcuts to activate the brush stabiliser (which should remember the last mode and length setting per mode), but perhaps people would also like direct control for either mode through keyboard shortcuts. Similarly, there's no shortcut to activate symmetry shortcut for brush strokes. The numeric shortcuts to set opacity to 10, 20, 30 ... 100% opacity interfere with my ability to set shortcuts to the numeric keys, therefore, these should be listed in the Keyboard shortcuts section so they can be disabled at will in favour for other shortcuts (i.e. changing personas with 1, 2, 3, etc. (also taking Affinity Photo into account where you have more personas). Instead, there could be an option to change settings for opacity and hardness by pressing a shortcut key, after which the cursor moves to the value box for the associated option (much like the F2 rename proposal). See discussion here: A configurable mouse & keyboard shortcut to rotate the canvas non-incrementally. This is different from the alt+mousewheel functionality, since pen tablets don't have access to this. Instead, this funtionality should be a combination of mouse/ pen input and a shortcut or modifier keys (not excluding spacebar) to invoke the command. For instance, spacebar + mmb drag is one of the combinations that comes to mind (or shift/ alt + mmb drag). Illustrator has shortcuts , . / for fill, gradient fill and no fill (or stroke depending on the context), from these I miss the gradient and regular fill shortcut. For cloning objects, I don't understand the reason for using both Ctrl and Alt, I am aware that control enables snapping and alt disables it, but for me personally, I would prefer to use Alt and toggle snapping manually (using a custom shortcut assignment), the reason for this is explained in 16. For the sake of muscle memory and working with various software packages, it would be great if the selection keys could be assigned manually. Currently, Shift is used to toggle selection, while Ctrl cannot be used. Instead, by using just Alt for cloning, Ctrl could be used to add to selections, meaning that if I hover over multiple nodes, the ones that are already selected won't be deselected. Similarly, instead of toggling selection, Shift could be used to remove from selections. The combination of these two creates a very consistent selection workflow. Though some software switch the Ctrl and Shift behaviour around, so therefore it is best to let the user decide which one does what (and maybe they prefer Ctrl constrained cloning in conjunction with Shift toggle, but that's currently not a decision that can be made. See 3. below. For scaling objects, Adobe uses alt to constrain the transform to both directions and shift + alt to scale from the centre. This should also be an option in Affinity to aid muscle memory. There is no scale tool, as in, there is no shortcut to open a pop-up to get to a bunch of value boxes where scale values can be typed and committed to with enter. As it stands, I seem to need to open the transform panel, hover the mouse to the width and height dimensions and type in the size followed by a percentage sign, which could be reduced with a dedicated scale dialog pop-up. Increase potential for keyboard shortcuts Differentiate between numeric keys and the numpad for additional keyboard shortcut options Modifier keys should be allowed to activate a tool Customise keyboard + mouse behaviour as you can other software like Blender and Krita. This would allow for specifying a combination of keypresses and mousekeys (click/ click drag) to invoke a command. Similar to the default fluent zooming with ctrl+spacebar, users should be able to specify the way they want to zoom, access GUIs and rotate the canvas. For canvas rotation, this could entail setting hotkeys of preference from any 3D package to navigate in 3D (e.g. alt+MMB, shift + MMB) to rotate the canvas fluently (non-incrementally).See: Adding multiple keyboard shortcuts to commands would also be welcome (as in having a plus icon to add a second keystring to invoke a command). For instance, ctrl+] moves an object forward and ctrl+shift+] moves it to the front. However, some keyboards have dedicated PgUp, PgDown, Home, End of a numeric portion to which these functions could be assigned. This allows for retaining 'industry standard' shortcuts, while enabling single button shortcuts as well. This is vital for companies where everyone uses the same keyboard shortcut scheme, so everyone can work on every PC or enable collegues to not freak out from different keyboard shortcuts, while it also creates room for certain customisability. This is what I mean, illustrated in PureRef, where you can click on the + sign to add additional entries (once they are there, you can hit the - sign to remove them). Also, feel free to add other missing ones in this thread, so they can be consolidated here.
  12. When using my self-created brushes on mask layers, each intensity brush image dab (or whatever the proper technical term is) is surrounded by a square shape. The attached image is an example of my problem. This does not occur with any of the default intensity (I assume) brushes that came with the application, only custom/downloaded brushes. I followed the instructions for custom brush creation found in the help files. Then I followed all of the recommendations I discovered here in the forums and on YouTube: square image, PNG file type, 300dpi, both black on white and transparent backgrounds. Each attempt resulted in block-surrounded image dabs. Affinity Photo has shown iPad Pro users the way forward, as well as the way around the Company of the Big Red "A". Hopefully we have returned the favor via the App Store. It's time to help us further by updating the documentation and tutorial videos concerning the creation and use of custom brushes. Thanks!
  13. Hi When I drag only a little bit the brush in Develop Persona, it results in some random brush strokes. In the atteched screen I've pointed the place where I've clicked the mouse (starting point of the brush, blue dot) and the direction I've dragged in only a little bit. The problem is that the brush started dragging in the other place. The orange colour on the screen is the marked place that shouldn't be there.
  14. I'm still new to Affinity so I'm sure this has been asked and answered but I'm not sure what to search. I drew a circle using a brush, which created the image on a pixel layer. I would now like to change the color of this circle. The only place or way I've found to do this is to do a color overlay, which doesn't really change the color of the item. Is there a better way to do this? And what should I be searching for in the help to find the answer? Thank you, Wills
  15. Hi, This is a two-part question really... 1. Does anyone know if you can make a brush stroke that is a straight line? 2. Also, is it possible to make a brush stroke follow a shape's outline (eg. a circle so that you paint along the circle's circumference) or along a path ? Thanks.
  16. I just noticed today there is something unusual with installing brushes from profile. Each time I restart the Affinity Designer app on the ipad, the brushes that I installed disappears. I try to install it another time and the brushes work fine. Unfortunately the brushes appear to be uninstalled again when I restart the app. It’s probably a bug in the update as the brushes I installed prior to 1.10.1 is still there. Anyone else having this issue? I am on iPadOS 15, using version 1.10.1 FullSizeRender.mov
  17. Last days I face several freezing from Photo by tasks with brushes. Only by taskmanager I can stop it. I hope the dump (1.95 gb) can help to find the problem. I have no OpenCL on. I have set Photo to working in warp mode, but here the same problems. I had this week a studio update driver for the Nvidia 1050Ti gpu maby this can effect under win 11 beta. 1210978147_dumpphoto.zip
  18. In Develop Persona, Overlay: 1. Click on Brush Overlay icon. 2. Set brush size to 307.1, Hardness 50%, Checked Edge Aware. 3. Using the brush made a stroke on the image moving left to right on the area I wanted to affect. Result: Stroke appeared in another part of the image as a vertical stroke. Once I saw this happened I tried again to make a vertical stroke and sure enough the stroke appeared on another part of the image as a horizontal stroke. Did further test and sometimes the stroke does not appear at all. It all depends on where you are in the image as to whether the stroke appears or not. In any case the area actually painted over is no where near the area of your brush stroke. Windows 10 Version 2004 OS Build 19041.450
  19. Hello, I'm trying to make the switch from Adobe to Affinity. I have this issue that it only seems to show on my Wacom Cintiq 16. Every time my brush hovers over my strokes they drop resolution/quality. I'd love to draw in Affinity photo, but I can't get around the low resolution lines. Any help? is this a known bug? what should I do? Note: Page size is Default A4 size, 300 DPI. Affinity Designer "pixel persona" doesn't drop brush stroke resolution. (Which uses pixels as well) Wacom cintiq 16 drivers are up to date. Specs: i7-10700k 3.80GHZ 16gb Ram 2070 super RTX Windows 10 I've attached an example video below Affinity Photo - Brush Strokes dropping quality. - YouTube
  20. Please add the ability to add pure vector based vector brushes based on vector objects for texture instead of PNGs. For now we can only add pixel based vector brushes. Being able to add pure vector brushes based on vector objects would allow us to create vector based textures and designs, which would be much easier to handle for any kind of (print) production. For example I tried to separate the colours to a spot colour PDF for screen print from this awesome work by Pierre Kleinhouse made for the Affinity Work from home series https://youtu.be/lL6gc8Oi2uw .afdesign file on DropBox: https://affin.co/LD2020PierreKleinhouse It was sort of a nightmare. I couldn't find a way to create a vector based spray texture within the Affinity Suite like in the second screen shot with the chimney. Expand stroke, working with spot colours, working with boolean operations ... a lot would be easier.
  21. Hi everyone, absolutely stumped with this one. This has happened twice today where the brush/ eraser just stopped working. The first time, because i hadn't made a lot of changes, i just closed and opened the document version again. But this time, i've made a lot of changes so if i was to start from a previously saved version, i will have lost about 2 h of work, with no idea why it happened in the first place. I wasn't doing anything i haven't done before. The second time round, it happened just after i had added a rectangle and was erasing 1 of the sides, which automatically erased as a mask. After that, nothing worked I checked this forum before posting to see if there was advice from anyone in a similar situation but am still having the same issue. All my pen settings are fine, no Protect Alpha. I've tried the "deselect" option - still nothing. None of my other layers work, even on my other pages and the fill tool is also firing blanks. What am i missing? See the attached screenshot. I'm not a professional digital artist and i've only been using Affinity for about a year so i am very open to the idea that i have no idea what i'm really doing. Really really appreciate some help.
  22. Hello everybody, How you doing? Well, I guess that Affinity Designer has the same tool to create patterns from strokes as Illustrator has. (Image attached). I'm newbie in Affinity Suite, so I dind't find anything relate to that. Somebody could help me? Thanks. Have a nice day.
  23. Noticed a bug where when resizing with your brush in Designer using the CTRL + ALT and drag short cut to do a quick brush stroke resize results in the brush tool disappering upon resize. Once you click around or make a line with your brush it returns but until then the brush cursor just disappears. Seems like something simple to fix. Running the latest version of Wacom drivers and 1.10.
  24. I would like Sreif to bring back "real" vector brush from DrawPlus to Affinity. Affinity's vector brush is actually a raster brush stroke with a curve, pseudo vector brush. Why this has been changed when Affinity was developed?
