  1. I am trying to use Lens blur on Affinity Photo. After opening the Lens Blur Adjustment, as soon as I click on Radius Affinity Photo crashes. I tried using Depth of Field and Gaussian and they work fine. Let me know if there is any issue with the same?
  2. Hi I'm trying to equalize texture replicating the steps from this video for Photoshop in Affinity Photo. The result I got from Affinity Photo is abit blur and the color abit washed out, in comparison to Photoshop. Did I missed out something? Or it should be different step for Affinity Photo? The steps I did for Affinity Photo: 1. Duplicate the image to 2 more copies like from this video. (Total 3 layers at this point) 2. Then use Filters -> Blur -> Average on 2nd layer. 3. Then adjust blend mode to Linear Light for 1st layer. 4. Then use Filters -> Sharpen -> High Pass... (with Radius 100px, same when I did in Photoshop) on 1st layer. Result from Affinity Photo: Result from Photoshop: Original:
  3. I’d like to request a blur tool that varies the degree of blur between paths. Much how contour lines on a map indicate altitude, the path would set the blur radius. Not to be confused with the path blur you get in photoshop; it’s closer to a field blur, but instead of radial points it uses vector paths. I really dislike using masks on blurs as it looks unconvincing. I’ve tried other methods for realistic focal depth on a 2d image (painting my own z-depth, multi layered blurs, etc) but they are quite a lot of effort to make. I feel this method would be the quickest and easiest if only it existed! If this tool already exists somewhere/anywhere, please let me know! I’ve tried to illustrate the idea below (excuse the lame character)...
  4. Hello, While painting, one of my biggest concerns since always has been that due to the nature of the engine, the whole canvas' pixels would kind of vibrate/pixelate or move around somehow, for I believe, engine optimization reasons. While I see it fine (and common in other apps) when zooming, while just laying brush strokes, painting, I quite very much dislike it. Still, am painting now with Photo .293 customer beta, and I'm not noticing any of these effects. Has that been -happily- removed, this optimization? Or it just depends on the case or illustration, and I might not be noticing now ? Would be important to know this. Everything is working great. Is performing really (outstandingly, even) fast on a really large canvas (yes, in this bad machine). But wouldn't love to find out the "effect" appears in some situations later on, or gets noticeable then. Thank you.
  5. As a UI designer, it'd be mighty handy to have a blur beneath effect. I believe it's pretty self explanatory, but just in case it would automatically blur any pixels below it to the desired value. This would allow a much more rapid workflow for testing out UI iterations on different backgrounds, instead of having to constantly adjust duplicate layers with masks.
  6. Hey, I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to use a mask, or a z-depth image to blur an image? In Photoshop you can use a black and white image to partially blur an image, to get a narrow depth-of-field effect: I've already tried to use a full-image blur with a mask, but that gives 80s-esque halo effects. The halo is there because the whole image (BG+dress) is blurred, while the dress should not be taken in to consideration for the BG-blur. It is quite noticable around the dress here: Anyone have a usable method for this effect in Affinity?
  7. You’re propose your app as a tool for work in vector. This is not true. You can add a lot of elements easily, work with color, blur etc. But once you need to scale the vector object you’ve created YOU SHOULD MANNUALLY GO TO EACH OBJECT AND SET “SCALE WITH OBJECT” Could you please set as priority ticket for your developers add a SCALE FUNCTION when you can just click on the object, click in Edit Menu “scale”, set ratio or percentage and you will get scaled option of your image. In addition your export feature need so much power from my Macbook that comparing it to the Illustrator. I’d better avoid all of those coll things you’re proposing just to get scalable and adopted vector file.
  8. Trying to replicate the process (link) to blur (bokeh) an image background and use a mask to retain sharpness of foreground. Desktop version seems to work fine. Ipad version mask requires precise tracing of foreground vs the general masking (black) and having image show properly per the desktop version. How can the ipad version behave like desktop version? Using an Ipad Air2. Does Affinity Photo run differently on iPad Pro?
  9. Well i'm a bit surprised that some issues are coming back to the surface but maybe it's on my side ! 1- Have noticed my exports get blurry every time : tried to design in A3 then export in A4 then A5 size (PNG: is my mostly used - TIFF or PDF) which was working like a charm in previous release but now they get blurry 2- Went to my Affinity Preferences and now i see : Display (OpenGL, OpenGL Basic, Software) .... Never touched this before so i would like to know if changing one of this would fix the issue and what each one is or supposed to do. 3- What is Dither gradient ? Would it help ? in what conditions ? Just remember that the blurriness disappeared with one of the updates (can't recall which one) but now it's back ! So, Your help and support would be appreciated helping me fix this and get back on the road.
  10. It would be great to be able to select the order of FX on shapes. Oftentimes I want to blur the shape of a vector object, but not necessarily the noise setting in its color. Perhaps adding Checkbox to the Blur FX panel to bypass blurring the Noise attribute? Thanks for your consideration and all you do
  11. Please add a radial blur to FX list, or just expand the Guassian blur options to include different blurs. Thanks.
  12. I am looking for an easy way to blur some little parts in a photo. My classic car photos have sometime people in the background. To garble the faces I want to blur these. Is there an easy way to do it?
  13. When trying to add a shadow / outline or something from effects on to a layered or grouped item the outline lets say turns green instead of red. Why would this be? I can't for the life of me work it out. P.s. I am a newbie to Affinity products and the forum. Thank you Andrew Windsor. bowling1.afdesign
  14. Hi all Affinity Photo friends, two questions: Is there something like a Clipping Mask as in Photoshop? It seems to be, that the tweaking made in Effects tab has zero effect on e.g. Masks and Adjustment Layers. In case I don't do something wrong or just couldn't figure out how to do it: This must be urgently added... Need to blur a mask non destructively all the time. If there is a possibility, please let me know, many thanks in advance. Appreciate any reply!
  15. Hey beebs! I'm using the trial version, tried to use the Gaussian blur but it makes some edges when moved, I guess it made to after I merge the filter. I told my self it would be a rendering thing but it turned to be rendered with the edged as you can see in the photo attached. Please I need help with this error! Cheers!
  16. This has been an issue for a while now. The blur brush tool adjustments in the tool bar (opacity, hardness and flow) don't seem to be doing anything. I've been using affinity photo now for about 7 months now. This never used to be an issue - the opacity, hardness and flow sliders would all have an effect on the blur brush tool. However all of the sudden, one day they stopped working and the blur brush tool is stuck on max blur! Can anybody tell me why or how to fix this? Note: these adjustments work just fine on paint brushes, burn/dodge brush tools etc its only an issue with the blur tool.
  17. Hi guys, I know Affinity doesn't have a Feather option, but is there anything similar? I need to apply something similar to Feather on a vector object, and I need it NOT to be rasterized in Photoshop. I tried the Gaussian Blur in Affinity, but that rasterizes the object on export. Anyone know a way or some workaround? Thank you, Chris
  18. Problem Gradients have bothered me forever, not only Affinity but every piece of software that has them. Turns out that both gradients and blur are subject to the same problem, which is that they are not performing the color average calculations correctly. The issue is best explained in this video. The gradient is on the left and the blur is on the right. The color between these two is too dark. This happens for every color combination. You can also see the edges of the gradient because it is being calculated linearly. The fix below using gradients is still wrong because it still is victim to the darkness resulting from the bad average calculation. This is also a good example of the linear gradient issue because you can see a definitive purple line down the center. This is my best attempt to fix the linear gradient and make it more logarithmic This calculation issue is also extremely visible in the color chooser The examples above are all using Adobe RGB, not sRGB. Suggested fix Idea 1 Because many documents are now using the wrong calculation, my suggested fix would be to add an option to the gradient tool for what type of calculation to use in order to maintain compatibility with older documents. Idea 2 Take the Photoshop approach and just make it a document setting (and turn it on by default for new documents). Result Fixing this will result in a more accurate and pleasing gradient and blur tool. Fixing this will also fix the linear gradient problem, which causes the center and edges of gradients to be extremely visible since they are not being calculated logarithmically to compensate for how humans perceive brightness/color. Here is a snapshot of the video I linked above showing what the blur and gradient should look like:
  19. Hi Affinity Forum. I´m using Affinity Photo iPad Beta 1.6.7.68 / iPad Pro 12,9" 1.Gen Feature request for the awesome Affinity Photo iPad App: Depth of Field / Tilt Shift with two finger functionality With one finger the lines are going all over the place, it would speed up the workflow, if i can hold down another finger to keep the lines in horizontal position. Affinity Photo Mac / Windows already uses the SHIFT key to move around the lines with more control and that leeds to a much quicker workflow. Please add this feature to AP iPad, this would help to move around the lines horizonatlly and to stay in place. For example: I created a Affinity Photo Tutorial yesterday, i´m using the Filter - Depth of Field - Tilt Shift with holding down the SHIFT key on Mac. 20. Steps to reproduce: 1) Have a pixel background layer. 2) Create adjustment layer with a very visible Levels adjustment, such as heavy lightening 3) Nest a Live Gaussian blur filter layer with high radius as child of the adjustment layer. Intended purpose is to blur the embedded mask of the adjustment layer. 4) Activate the adjustment layer, switch tool to a large paintbrush, black color to erase from the mask of the adjustment layer. 5) Move the mouse over the layer without pressing the mouse button, and observe a trail left over by the preview of the brush 6) You can clean up the view by disable and then enable the adjustment layer. Please see attached screenshot
  21. Hello, Every time I zoom in, out or make an adjustment the image momenterally blurs a little bit and then regains its sharpness. I dont know what this is called. Is this something we can adjust with a setting? Because it seriously strains my eyes. Thank you 2nd gen. IPad pro 12.9 AP 1.6.5
  22. Hi I'm a car photographer and I just discovered Affinity Photo and love it I just have a specific edit I'm trying to achieve that I haven't found the exact tutorial for. I do a lot of rolling shots for cars and aside from the partial motion blur the camera does I need a way to intensify the motion blur when editing like in the picture. I found the motion blur layer and it didn't work exactly like the pictures, maybe I'm doing it wrong, but some instructions would be greatly appreciated! I want to note that I like the motion with the lines on the road not just blurred background and the car needs to remain in focus exactly like the pictures.
  23. Hello, I've been using Affinity Photo for a few months now and love it! but there's one thing that disturbs me everytime I use it : When I add a png icon/logo (like the one in the attachement) and add put it on a picture, it always looks distorted or blurry no matter how high in resolution the png is. I've been wondering if this only is a problem I have, or if I am doing something wrong. Is there a way to fix this issue? Thank you very much for reading Leeyhan
  24. Hi all, Is there an average blur feature on the iPad affinity software? I use a lot on compositing, would anyone recommend another way to get the mean color of an image? Thanks in advance! -jd
  25. So this is a brand new issue I just started having. I am doing pixel work and whenever I move or flip the image, or even merge two layers, the pixels suddenly become a blurred mess. I am not even resizing them. They just blur randomly whenever I try basic editing. This pixel work is very important for the game I am working on but this blurring problem is stopping my entire production ORIGINAL: Flipped: Merged The same blurriness also occurs whenever I move these around the canvas if there is objects on the background. Please help.
