  1. Hello, I recently purchased Affinity Designer, to use it for Social Media Posts, and the occasional bored scribble. And I realized if you use the Artboard, the background is an Automatic Light grey. Is there any way to change that? It is very distracting, and it sort of blends in with the actual Artboard. Greetings, Elya.
  2. IU'm converting from Photoshop and struggling to understand something - In the colour panel, there are 2 colour circles which appear to correspond to a 'fill' colour, and a 'stroke' colour - whereas in Photoshop they relate to Foreground and Background colours. Does Affinity Photo have a concept of Foreground and Background colour or not? In Photoshop I can create a gradient from the foreground colour to the background colour - how do I do the equilavent in Affinity Photo? I used the colour dropper tool to select 2 colours in a photo, but as soon as I switch to the gradient tool I don't seem to be able to use the colours I picked, as a white gradient fills the entire layer and I cannot find an option to go from Fill to Stroke colour.
  3. Is there a way I can do this globally? I decided that adding a colored background to my 20 artboards would make it easier to see. I just did a bunch of logo mock-ups and wanted to see if there was a faster way to handle this. I didn't really notice any way to easily change the BG on all the boards so I created a symbol and slowly duplicated and dragged it from board to board and had to redo all my layers to make sure it actually was at the bottom of the board on the correct board but if there is a faster way to handle this I'd be happy to hear it for the future.
  4. Affinity Photo Tutorial | In this video, We will learn, How to apply a blur effect on any photo background like the Expensive DSLR Camera effect. #affinitytuts #affinityphoto #blureffect
  5. I want to take an image file and place it on a colored background. Prior to Affinity I had Adobe Photoshop but I can't seem to find a correlating tool to do this. Adobe merely ad a "resize canvas" option where one could anchor the image and choose a background while resizing. The resize canvas on Affinity is quite useful but not for my purpose. I am not sure which tutorial to watch.
  6. Same problem in 1.7.3.481 Any comments from the Serif staff? Refine selection is completely useless... No improvements here whatsoever in about two years.
  7. Hello everyone! Right now I can't figure out how to change the background color of the Text tool in Affinity Designer. The default one seems to be white but I would want to change it. Thanks for your answer in advance!
  8. Hi can you possibly tell me why I have part of my background showing through on this dove in Affinity. If you look at the wing of the dove, the blue background is showing through in a really weird way. I know how to get rid of the pencil line (please ignore the pencil), but the blue on the wing from the background is really baffling me because it's not part of the group, and it's further down the layer chain as the background. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the endpoint on the wing attaching itself to another part of the dove. I've tried breaking the endpoint to make sure there's no join, and also tried to make sure that while the bird is a group layer, it's attached correctly. Thanks.
  9. I have just moved over from PhotoShop to Affinity Designer. With PhotoShop I used to be able to use a "MAGIC ERASER" tool to remove the background on an image with only one click. Is there such a feature on Afinity Designer?
  10. Hello designers, since autumn is here, it's time we change our desktop background. And in order to be up to date with the current season I present to you an Autumn Background that you can easily make in Affinity Designer:
  11. When exporting the bleed eliminates the background color and sets it to white or transparent, it should maintain the original background and just include the dieline. The last version would leave the background color. 4x5 Crimson Ride 750ml wDL.tiff 4x5 Crimson Ride 750ml.afdesign
  12. Here is cloudy sky background in A3 portrait format I created in Affinity Photo and PhotoZoom Pro 7. Useful as a textured background in Publisher, and I'm guessing Affinity Designer. It is at 300dpi and in PNG format stored in a 7z archive. I hope you find it useful. Cloudy Sky (resized).7z Smaller sample also included.
  13. Hi, i'm working in Affinity Photo and, for the first time, the Text Tool add a white bounding box arround the characters. I've check the background text but changing it doesn't solve the problem. How can I remove this white background?
  14. Whenever I'm using Outline mode, it's always to trace an image. I prefer to use Outline mode because the "visible stroke" is as fine as it can be, and there are no styles applied (i.e. no fills, strokes, gradients etc). In my opinion (and my usecase of course), having the "Outline" view mode seems incomplete without being able to set an image layer as a background. I don't think every image layer should be visible, but there should be a way to change an image layer's view setting to "Traceable" (or something similar) so it is visible even when in Outline mode. It makes sense for this "traceable" layer to be slightly opaque just so the outline can be clearly seen on top. The opacity could be set on the layer, or it could be set as a global setting (whatever's easier).
  15. ... looks like this: (layer "gold ..." -> 56 %, background rectangle -> 100 %; background-group: 50 %) For correcting I added a 100 % white background (outside of the group) and adjustet the transparence of the group:
  16. I'm very green when it comes to artistic design. I need some guidance/high-level steps/approaches. I can then go off and try to do them. I'm willing to put effort but I don't even know where to start. Right now I'm really clueless. I have Affinity Designer on my mac and I also have Affinity Photo on iPad. I'd prefer to do what I want on Designer. Here's what I want to do: I want to create a metallic/grungy text using one of the existing fonts like Garamond etc. Basically, the text would look like a nice movie poster font or a book cover font. I'm not looking to create a new font - I just want to use any existing font but make the text look awesome. I've purchased some nice high-res metallic and grunge backgrounds. So what I need to know is how do I type text, apply those textures to the text-fill, so the text looks like rusty, metallic. If I could put some cracks on the side that would be even more awesome but let me not get ahead of myself considering I'm struggling to even explain what I want, let alone having the talent to do it. I want the text to be vector so I can scale. Some examples of what I mean https://ltheme.com/words-of-lord-psd-text-effect/ http://freephotoshop.org/2011/01/grunge-layer-styles-fx/ I hope I explained it OK... Thank you!!
  17. Here’s another site which I found in my bookmarks that lets you quickly create images that can be used for backgrounds (and probably other things too): http://bg.siteorigin.com/ There are loads of different patterns and various options to play with. I’ve attached two examples: Leather; and White Plaster.
  18. I rediscovered this website while I was cleaning out some old browser bookmarks for web design stuff and thought I’d share it in case anyone else found it useful: https://trianglify.io/ With it you can quickly generate some simple triangle-based graphics - see attached example - which can be exported as either PNG or SVG and then used in your Affinity projects. The output isn’t perfect – e.g. the vertices in the SVGs are not exactly aligned and the PNGs sometimes have ‘gaps’ – but they might be of some use, maybe as a starting point for something else.
  19. After downloading & installing the newest beta version of Photo beta, when trying to adjust background gray levels, the background goes to bright white and then the sliders become dysfunctional. After the UI sets background levels to bright white, the UI gray level slider ceases to work. I slide the sliders back and forth but nothing happens I ran into the same problem in Designer beta (latest version).
  20. On Affinity Photo I want to export an entire black image to a 3x3 square of slices. As this square is bigger than original image, 8 exported slices but the center's one have extra pixels. When I exported slices, these extra pixels are white. I want them to be black. I tried many tricks without success: change background color of image, add a square below the image and fill it with black... No success. Extra pixels are always white. Is there a way to achieve this goal? Original image Mosaic of slices Slices As you can see, extra background is white. Top left slice
  21. I have a png with a transparent background that I’ve imported into Designer on my iPad Pro. Original dpi was 150. I need to upload it to an online vendor that only accepts 300 dpi files. (I know.) Changing the dpi in Designer only seems to work if I uncheck Embed Metadata in the Export screen — but when I do that and save as png, the resulting image has a white background. If I leave the setting checked, the background is transparent but the dpi remains listed as 150. Is it possible to change the dpi of the saved png to 300, but retain the transparency? edit: I’ve discovered that I can make this work if I first create a 300 dpi document and then use Place Image to add my image. I can then turn off embed metadata and retain transparency. Still not sure why I can’t start with an existing png, though.
  22. Hi all I have an image with white background . I would like to remove that background , meaning select only specific object and choose other background. I couldn't find an option to do it . The image is attached . I want to remove all the white background surrounding the watch Thx !
  23. which tool to use to change color of parts of background to color of something else in photo? For example, there are streetlights, I want to paint them the color of the sky behind the lights. I am very new to the tool. I thought brush tool could do this but it seems like you have to choose a standard color and cannot choose one from photograph. Eraser? Please advise. Thank you! Larissa
  24. Hey everyone! I'm not sure if this happens when using other Affinity software, but when exporting to .psd, Photo on iPad deletes empty layers and a layer if it has solid color and is placed as last layer and sets its color as background color. Please don't assume empty layers could be deleted or a solid color layer should be converted to background color. This is quite inconvenient. Best wishes, Shu
  25. Hey guys, so i want to make a wallpaper for my friend and i need help setting up the document size. I don't want to end up making such a big file that it can't be emailed to my friend. But at the same time i don't want to work on something that's too small and risk quality loss. For example if i open up a new document and make it 2560 x 1600 pixels (my friends display size) it just seems like it would be too big to email. maybe i'm wrong though. Is this the best size? Also should i select Web document? Any help is appreciated.
