  1. My first few works while trying to figure out Affinity Designer on my Surface Pro 4. So far so good just miss my gradient meshes and blending objects.
  2. Do you have a plan to improve Artboard guides for universal workspace?(can see my attached file) I think this way is easier to create UI design, brochure and etc. On the current version is really awkward and rarely to use but It's better than nothings, however I can use copying an object from an Artboard and paste to other Artboards with the same position instead of making some guides ;). Cheers.
  3. Hi. I hope you dont mind me asking this question but I have got Photo not Designer and before this I was using PS to create line art from my drawings so I could digitally colour create them. I tried to use the process that I used before in Photo but I could not recreate some of the steps. I realise that things work differently but hoping that there is still a better way to do it then I ended up making. The process I used to use is below. The problem I have is that I cannot find a way to do the steps that I have marked in red. I ended up using the magic tool to select the white areas but it kept missing bits and was not a good solution for me and took very long and my selection was quite shabby and pixelated once I had finished. Can you advise what sort of process (if any) i can use in Photo to recreate this please. I dont want to have to buy Designer yet while I am still a beginner and learning the ropes in Photo. Creating Line art from Scans * Open scanned image in Photoshop * Make a copy of original layer and rename for easier finding * Adjustment layer – Black & White * Option box - check all options are in the middle default position of scale. If any altered bring back to middle. * Adjustment layer – Levels * Adjust as required to create more contrast and get rid of any unused white areas * Adjustment layer – Curves * Create S shape to enhance image * Go back to Copy layer and zoom into 100% and then go to Unsharp Mask * Big radius – 120 – 150% * Amount – 60 -90% * Threshold – low – 12 - 14% Touching up image to remove blemishes * Go to Brush and choose a standard brush using the black and white colours to remove any blemishes on image so image is clean * Then delete original layer Define line art * Select – Colour Range – options box – Select sampled colours/selection Preview-Grayscale/Invert/Image * Then use colour picker and click on white area within image – OK * This then creates marching ants around the line art with only the black lines selected * Select/Modify/Smooth – 2 pixels * Optional: Select/Modify/Contract – 1 pixel * Then fill the selection with black. Make sure foreground colour is black and then ALT+backspace to fill with black. * Invert selection again so white selected * Then hit Delete and white background removed so line art is now on transparent background. * Deselect with Control + D * Save this as a PS layer file for future use
  4. Well, I've got a question referring to the HSL Shift Adjustment. I have combined the HSL Adjustment with the Posterise Adjustment to create a really colorful and nice effect on an image. But when I export the picture or even zoom in the colors shift and a quite boring picture develops. So how is it possible to make these effects static to get my expected picture?
  5. Hi all, First time sharing some work done with Designer. WSome album art with artist Melody Rose, not the direction we are going to go in..but i kinda dig it wanted to share and welcome feedback. Cheers!

  7. Hello, I'm HalbLeiter. Today, I experienced strange problem in the EXIF of the image I've taken. I'm using Nikon Df and SIGMA Art 24-35mm f/2.0, and the images were taken with the RAW(.NEF) format. When I opened these images with the Affinity Photo, the lens data were shown (ex. focal length, aperture) but the lens maker and model were not shown. I also made questions to the lens maker(SIGMA) and camera maker(NIKON). Answer from SIGMA: This problem is related with the camera maker. Maybe the camera maker have no information about the newly released lens on the look-up table. However, we don't have permission to tweak the firmware on the camera. Please ask to the camera maker. Answer from NIKON: In original, we(NIKON) are not supporting 3rd party accessories such as lenses, batteries and speedlights. In other case, when the camera body cannot recognizes the lens, the lens maker is updating their firmware to make recognizable. Please ask to the camera maker. How do you think about this? _DSC7569.zip
  8. This is one of my first vector drawings. Ever. Couldn't really wrap my head around how to work with the tools in other vector-based software but in Affinity Designer it was a cinch. Apres Tanguy zine drawing 4.pdf
  9. It was a nice surprise to find the art brushes in Affinity Photo. Here is a painting based on a couple of photos I took in Maine. The work took about 3-4 hours. The program could be better at painting with a couple of simple additions: 1 A good blender brush. Smudge and Blur aren't that useful for this. 2 A simple and easy way to change brush size without having to go to the slider - shortcut keys - control click and then drag to set size
  10. I don't know if this is the right place to post this but. How about a page for your artists to post samples of their work they have done with your software. I don't see any links on your site leading to a page for that.
  11. I tried to use as many of the brushes as I could. Starting with a black background saved me a lot of work. Keeping foreground, mid ground, and background in separate layers also helped a lot. The texture brushes are a blast to use.
  12. I started with an all-brown drawing and used very low transparency brushes to overlay color
  13. I tried to keep the total time below 2 hours and 1 Brush. This is based on a photo of the waterfall that run through the center of Camden Maine. I am liking the speed and responsiveness of the brushes, and the program in general. Fast and so far no crashes or problems. Very good.
  14. Using Affinity Photo to color my scanned art is real dream and has made my life so much easier.
  15. Hi everybody, at first i have to say that i´m deeply impressed of the Affinity products. Beautiful UI, beautiful features, good job. Personally i´m interested in digital painting and concept art. I try to use AP for these things. My problem is that i don´t know how to blend my shadows well. So which techniques and brushes could you recommend? Maybe you can give me some examples. greetings from Germany.
  16. I am a complete newbie to Affinity and this is my first attempt at a project. I am attempting to copy a pattern used by an artist on the Web who is involved heavily with Sacred Geometry. If you are interested you can Google Charles Gilchrist or Sacred Geometry. The pattern was used as the base for one of his Mandala paintings. The pattern called Natures First Pattern is basically circles arranged to form a repeating pattern. This is the result of my first attempts with Affinity and vectors in general. Of course, I had to pick an easy one ! I am convinced that Affinity Designer is made with secret magic potions and mysterious spells. All of this pattern is split into individual pieces and the file is still very small and extremely responsive on the screen. If I were to export this file to PSD it would generate a 13 Meg file ! The document size is 24 x 24 inches at 300 DPI for printing. I will post an update when it is colored. Should take me about 23 years !
  17. Hi Everyone, Here are designs made with Affinity Designer. I guess I'm getting better with this awesome app.

  19. Hi, My take on a classic. Made the shots dramatic to enhance the feeling of old and prestige. Rendering time was quite short about 5 min each. POST in Affinity Photo Beta. ;) For more pics check my behance + a modeling timelapse. https://www.behance.net/gallery/24002497/Classical-Violin? Cheers, Vlad
  20. Hi!, I plan to switch to Affinity Photo for my illustration work in the near future. I don't like Adobe's subscription business model. I've been testing Photo with real projects and works ok. But there are some things that still need improvements to consider it in a day to day pipeline of work. First of all I'm testing it on a 2014 27" iMac, 16 GB RAM and 2.7 GHZ processor. Iris Pro Graphics. 1. Brushes still have some lag when painting fast and in high resolution. Several strokes are drawn very delayed before drawing them with the tablet. Time is crucial in my work and this issue is a little bit frustrating. 2. I understand the color picker being precise, but again, in a day to day basis I use the color picker hundreds of times and almost automatically when I'm painting. As it is now, the delay of the color picker can be annoying when you seat for 5 straight hours painting and try to work as fluid as you can. ¿Can we have a less precise but faster color picker option?, that would be great guys. And finally, there is this little bug in the brushes panel. When you select one brush and change its size with the keyboard, that brush in the panel is deselected automatically. Visually confuses a bit, even thought the brush itself is still selected. Just my two cents, hope this great piece of software make it far, I really admire your work guys!
  21. Hi everybody, I've created this book reading slug. The drawing is to be used as a colouring page for free download at a website for kids. I really like the abillity to draw using the pen tool and then add the pressure feeling afterwards :)
  22. This is a minimalistic view of my layout on the desk at home. I started out with the intention of only making the keyboard, but then I wanted to make more :D
  23. So tonights late night doodle is dedicated to the special lady in my life... Ok maybe this was an excuse to play with creating my own custom brushes. I am building a nice little collection of brushes. So tonight was about brushes and mixing up some vectors with some pixels all in one image. You work in this application long enough you start jumping between the pixel and Draw Persona and you dont even think twice. I love to know what everyone interpretation of the story is in this image. (Squirrel) ohh did I mention I say Big Hero 6 the movie today? Go see it !!! It is worth every bit of the coin. Anyway enjoy.
  24. I'm delighted to have been involved in putting together this article on the popular Creative Bloq for designers using Affinity Designer... you'll know some names in the piece from this forum :) http://www.creativebloq.com/examples-affinity-designer Please share these talented folks' artworks by using the social buttons at the top of the article. You'll also recognise most if not all the designs as they have appeared in some form on Twitter, in the product in some cases, in the forum, and in some Affinity marcomms. I take my hat off to these designers in particular for what they've achieved but appreciate all of you that are producing artwork with AD, I hope we're able to give you all an opportunity to look fantastic. Designers in this spotlight piece are: Val Motsch (Lescot) Jonathan Ball (Poked Studios) Ben The Illustrator (The Huddle Formation) Neil Ladkin (Serif & Affinity Art Director) David Wildish (FLOKK Creative) Sascha Preuβ (Bubblefriends) Paolo Limoncelli (UX-DesignStudio) Ignacio Valicenti (IDV) and YoAz Thanks guys, Dale.
  25. Tonight doodle was to see what i could make without drawing it in my sketch pad first. No pen tablet was used either, I retrained myself to just a mouse and a dream.....
