  1. I use Affinity Photo for photo retouch and Corel Painter for digital art. I downloaded some custom brushes from the web, they are in .abr format, but my computer only allows them to be opened in Affinity Photo, Corel just doesn't recognize them any more. What should I do? How do I fix this? Thanks in advance for the replies.
  2. Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer are quickly becoming a realistic alternative to other software for many uses. They boast a great arsenal of features comparable to current industry-leading options, and I personally appreciate how they go out of their way to make the user's workflow more streamlined and simple without dumbing features down or restricting the potential for fine-tuning and more advanced control. From a creative/artistic point of view, both software packages succeed at delivering a very solid and stable experience and the interface hardly ever gets in the way of creative flow. That said, I believe there are some minor improvements that could be made to the software in order to help streamline the workflow for artists. This thread serves as a sort of compendium of suggestions and feature requests relating to improving the workflow for artists. If anyone else has any other ideas that you believe belongs in this list, you can add it below. NOTE: To my knowledge, this category of the forum deals only with the desktop software (Windows/Mac), but to avoid confusion, this thread is about the desktop versions only. View Rotation Precision (Designer and Photo) The view rotation feature is especially helpful for hand-drawn art, especially when using a drawing tablet that cannot be easily repositioned. It seems, however, that the canvas rotation feature is very limited, only offering a set rotation increment of X degrees left and right. Sometimes the jumps can be too big to find a good angle, and other times the user may want to precisely align the view to a line or a guide. The existing rotation controls can be mapped to hotkeys, but there isn't any default way of performing canvas rotation easily. My suggestion would be to add a feature that uses one of the modifier keys to freely rotate the canvas to an arbitrary angle. The canvas could rotate about the center of the current view, and moving the mouse around that central point would control the rotation. This is how I've seen other programs handle canvas rotation, and it works beautifully. An option to non-destructively flip the canvas view vertically or horizontally would also be welcome. Related link(s): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/49658-view-rotate-is-hard-set/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/43396-arbitrary-canvas-rotation-angle-without-trackpad/ Better Control of Variable Pressure (Designer) The pressure graph can be used to control the thickness of strokes along their length, which is very useful for fine-tuning the look and feel of a drawing. However, there are some cases where the graph approach is awkward and cumbersome to use, especially when the user is trying to place a thick or thin segment at a very specific place. Since the graph is stretched from the beginning to the end of a stroke, simply moving points in a way that changes the total length of the stroke can ruin a carefully adjusted pressure graph. As others have suggested, I believe variable stroke thickness should be handled on a per-node basis such that the user can (for example) roll the mouse wheel over a point to easily adjust the thickness of the stroke in that location. I don't know if that necessarily warrants an entirely new tool since it could probably be combined with the node tool, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. Another issue worth noting is that strokes drawn using the vector brush tool don't appear to allow variable pressure adjustment; the graph can be opened, but changing it doesn't seem to have any visible effects on the stroke. Related link(s): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/496-stroke-width/ Pixel Tool (Photo) When using the pixel tool, if you click to place a single pixel, it generally doesn't do anything. The pixel tool seems to work only if the mouse is dragged. It would be much more comfortable to be able to simply click where you want to place a pixel and have it appear. As it stands, using the pixel tool for precision work feels finicky and inconsistent at best. Resetting Sliders (Photo) I noticed that in Affinity Photo's Develop persona, double-clicking on the sliders in the right toolbar resets them to their original values. This feature is incredibly convenient and sensible, but it seems to be the only place in the program where it works. Double-clicking on other sliders in other personas seems to do nothing. I don't know if they were originally intended to do this everywhere and a glitch broke the functionality, but I personally think it's a great feature and would love to see it expanded to the entire interface. As I said above, if anyone has any other points, please feel free to share! Affinity's software has been enjoyable and rewarding so far, and it approaches the quality and caliber of Adobe's product line without forcing a subscription. I want to see the software improve and flourish, so keep up the good work!

  6. Hi, id like to ask if is possible to have in Affinity Designer a effect similar to Ai Zig Zag? Maybe with custom brushes, effects or some kind of trick, maybe? Is that even possible? Thanks

  8. Hi all! i hope u enjoy this!!!!
  9. I have deleted art boards on a given document. Is there a way to automatically/manually renumber them to reflect the changes? For instance. If I have Art Board 1, Art Board 2, Art Board 3, and Art Board 4...if I delete Art Boards 1 and 4...is it possible to renumber Art Board 2 as Art Board 1...and Art Board 3 as Art Board 2?
  10. Hello, Just got Affinity Photo for iPad. Great app, thank you very much. I was wondering if there was any plans to create a Wave distortion filter, like Adobe Photoshop has. You can see an example of the Photoshop Wave filter in action right here: https://youtu.be/1CcdLwCRuQ0 You can create really cool glitch effects with this Photoshop filter. As a creator of glitch art I would love to see this added to Affinity Photo. I also think it would bring a lot of new users to Affinity Photo. Thank you.
  11. With the demise of DaisyTrail and the prospect of CraftArtist eventually fading away I thought it time to get to grips with Affinity Designer....well at least for making a scrap page! Extremely happy with my very first project....found my way around Artboards and the Asset Panel ( a sophisticated 'Digikit Browser!) and all my favourite 'Tools' were soon located. This project was created for a challenge using a collection called 'Mixed Media' .....I had a lot of fun creating it.
  12. Hello, I am new to the world of graphic design and using design software. Thanks to the informative videos I have found via this site, YouTube and Lynda.com., I am slowing learning. I have purchased Affinity Designer and the text book. I have illustrated and written a children's book, "The Exciting Travels of Tuffie and Giuseppe" (www.tuffieandgiuseppe.com) and used Microsoft Publisher to lay it out. I would now like to try and lay out my next book using Affinity Designer. My first book has 25 pages of about 30 paintings. I use 8.5 x 11 inch mixed media paper with acrylic ink. This is so that I can scan my artwork using a home scanner. I would love to hear any advice or about other experiences using Affinity Designer to lay out something like a very visual children's book. I also bought a Huion 1060 drawing pad which I am currently learning how to use. Thank you Ronnie McBride for your many informative tutorials. Thanks, Charla Perry
  13. Hey guys, just want to gather some experiences from people who might be using this software as a substitute for Photoshop on the go digital painting wise...and an idea on if it's worth the investment or not. since the release of the iPad Pro version i have been constantly looking through sites and forums for peoples experiences and the usual outcome is critical praise along the lines of a great substitute for PS but usually based off of the perspective from someone who used it with editing photos and not so much with illustration & painting. Basically my Cintiq is down and much of my work has fallen onto the iPad pro i'm not too interested in Astropad and i do have Mediabang and Procreate but both are always lacking many functions i love from using Photoshop i love concept art, texturing, sprite-work and animating so i'd absolutely love anyone else's input on personal experiences before i make the jump. Thanks! :)
  14. I draw in Affinity Photo and I've seen people draw and resize the lineart on YT. I just can't figure it out... Please give me a hand so I don't have to undo or erase and redraw the thing.
  15. Hey Everyone, Here is a timelapse video of me creating a watercolor still life painting in Affinity designer. I had a lot of fun playing with the different brushes and testing the different capabilities of the software. Enjoy! Here is the video from start to finish: https://youtu.be/y6l6-wOOf2A Let me know what you think? Thanks, Mike
  16. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and I just wanted to say how much I enjoy using the affinity designer software. To show my "affinity" to the software, I would like to share a tutorial video that I made turning my hand sketch into a vector drawing :D: https://youtu.be/UDVuI0BPFgo Hope you guys like it and let me know what you think. Thanks, Mike
  17. I've been doing fine art printing through Photoshop for almost 20 years, currently on the Epson 11880. Before I consider switching over from Photoshop, I need to make sure there is a set workflow in place, not just a work around... Are there support videos or tutorials showing the printer workflow for the Epson, in particular the 11880? Thanks, Alan
  18. 'Lock Children' bug when use transform input box. It just happen only this version. Please check it again. Thank you :) . artboard_bug.afdesign
  19. I'm thinking of buying the software but I want to know if this software (Affinity Photo) tends to Digital artist. Does it have varies brushes? Tools? To help with your art? And when updating; will it provide more tools for digital artist or just photographers?
  20. I've tried trail version and I can't even make a soft airbrush like Photoshop which I think very importance for photo editing. I see a lot potential on this software do not ignore digital painting users. so many artists are rely on Photoshop so if you can mimic brush feature and responsiveness like Photoshop also with this price its really a game changer I see a lot of money $$.
  21. Greetings Affinity Designer Users, I'm hopping someone can point me into the right direction. When placing and using a graphic individually on to the canvas, Usually, anything that spills or leaks out from the canvas has always stayed within the canvas "margin" and or does not leak out. That is until you select the Artboard Tool and then you can have as many Art boards (Canvases or aka as the projects pages) in your project as you want, and all the graphics are perfectly visible outside of the actual canvas size (with no clipboard mode being used) as it normally should. (Please see image attached) But then, WHY is it then, that a glitch happens out of nowhere sometimes when your graphics start leaking out of the ClipArt board Canvas, when clearly I DID NOT want to create an ClipArt? nor did i select it the Art board Tool. How can I fix this ? It used to be not long ago where it would automatically fix itself after restarting the software but its coming back up with the file itself and those same settings are now being saved with that same setting for when i open up a new graphic art file. In Other words, How can I turn OFF that "Art board" feature (where graphics don't stay within the chosen margins and never really disappear after it leaks out the confined dimensions of the page as it usually would when in Artboard mode) I don't want that feature ON when I'M NOT using a Art board mode nor the Art Board Tool in my project. I just want the regular mode with its margined canvas without the Artboard tool, and without my graphics leaking out of my main comp. (For an example of Please see attached image) Again, this is me NOT using the Artboard Tool here, and the graphics still leak. Thanks guys! I really appreciate it if anyone can get back to me! Best always, PJ
  22. I frequently use software to clean up hand drawn art. I use red(or blue) sketch lines and then ink over them, similar to standard practices in comic illustration. In photoshop there is a relatively simple process to remove the red lines and in recent years a script to handle the whole process. How can I do this in Affinity Photo(or designer)? Sample sketch attached.
  23. From my example file, I try to change height of the Artboard. It works very well when I select each Artboard But if I select two Artboards and change its height, I will lose my work inside the Artboards and cannot undo it. test_artboard.afdesign
  24. Hi All, I've had this idea for a while and finally i've got a few ideas up and its going in the right direction. Think clumsy Monkey who does silly things or just doesn't think... and the catchphrase with Jiraffe. May give it a new direction and turn it into in to a kids book at some point, or do i keep it adult based with interest for kids??? Probably would go down the route of Peppa Pig, Hey Duggee if it was aimed at kids. SO need to think about that but maybe keep it as is and look to get these published in a mag or online somewhere?? I still remember my comics as a kid and reading things like Hagar the horrible in the newspaper.. Anyway, thoughts & suggestions welcomed... Here are a few from the Ohhh, My Strawberry Monkey series Allan
