  1. Hey all, It's been a while since I put something together, gotta give thanks to Teo on this forum as I completely forgot about this app. Would love to see this work more tightly with Affinity. In this new tutorial we look at creating a live preview layout for mobile devices using Affinity Designer and Skala Preview, will also work with Photo and having the design update live on your mobile device by using continuous export as you make changes. Enjoy.. Allan
  2. I decided to create visual journal to keep things organized. Due to work, i won't be able to post regularly. But i will try to keep things organized here. You can check out my Dribbble account to see my work. I haven't started posting work on Dribbble using AD yet as i got the software for 2 days only. But i would soon. You can also checkout out my DeviantArt account where i upload the source file of the design if you are interested in downloading the files and examining.
  3. Hey there, I'm wondering if there are any tutorials specifically for putting the website design together and making it work. Is it simply html coded after designing a webpage in AD? For instance, how would you make functioning buttons and links from it? I don't mind the html part, I just need to know if the UI kit includes that type of option to make the buttons I create do something. If there's nothing AD can do for that, how are people creating mobile/web interfaces with their AD designs? Second question, are there any tutorials on how to make keyboards with the UI kit for mobile? Just keyboard skins. I've already viewed Affinity's tutorials on the UI kit, they don't answer these questions for me. Thank you~
  4. Hello Affinity Team, Kudos on a great product. I work in an Android device manufacturing company and our devices have RAW shooting capabilities. However, some of our users have reported some compatibility issues between our devices and your software. I would love to work with you guys to ensure maximum compatibility between our two platforms. I haven't found a direct technical support e-mail where I can contact you guys. Sorry for using the forum. If you could send me a private message I would really appreciate it so that I can give you more information. Thanks again for your time and best regards!
  5. Hello Guys, Well i have been using AD for my UI design projects and i am enjoying it so far. Some of you guys may know that there are multiple devices with multiple screen sizes. Multiple resolutions which doesn't scale up or down proportionally due to difference in aspect ratio. So how do you guys start the design? 1. Do you create an artboard with smallest version then scale up or other way around? 2. How do you export the assets with AD? (By export i meant efficient way to export multiple size) 3. How do you deal with different aspect ratio? I know that AD has good export tools where i can choose 1x, 2x for export but the aspect ratio for all screens are not same. I started a design for Iphone 5 retina display. It has an aspect ratio of 16:9. So i can use 1x, 2x asset features to scale up or down. 4. But what about android with ratio 16:10 for some device? My strategy was to design for different ratio, starting with smallest device then scale up asset during export. 5. Is this an efficient way or do you have better way? Note this question is not directly related to AD but the question general. But as i am using AD export feature so i am asking here to know if there is some efficient way that i didn't figure out.
  6. Hello, I need some help, im interested in buying affinity designer to be my go to app for android apps development, since I never done any apps yet, im still a newbie (in both, designing and coding), as you know designers should consider the many possible screen densities to support multiple screen app development for android... I saw in your tutorial video that you can export slices to 1x, 2x, 3x etc, now according to android documentation there are a set of six generalized densities: ldpi (low) ~120dpi mdpi (medium) ~160dpi hdpi (high) ~240dpi xhdpi (extra-high) ~320dpi xxhdpi (extra-extra-high) ~480dpi xxxhdpi (extra-extra-extra-high) ~640dpi The density-independent pixel is equivalent to one physical pixel on a 160 dpi screen (mdpi).. 1. now when I select new document, which settings (dpi) should I choose to support all 6 densities? (detailed answer please?) 2. hdpi has 1.5 conversion rate coming from mdpi, from the video I only saw integer values, so is there a way? 3. what if I'm already working on hdpi document, how can I convert down to mdpi? I didnt see options to downscale PS. I know this got asked before but please provide assets for android development. thank you.
  7. AFFINITY PUBLISHER & DIGITAL PUBLICATIONS "Affinity Publisher will be crafted to help professional designers get the very best results on every layout, page, magazine, book, and digital publication, with stunning typography and vibrant colour." I don't know if this is jumping the gun but... As a user of PagePlus, Quark Xpress, and InDesign I can tell you that PagePlus is up there when it comes to paper-based publishing. However, PagePlus has always fallen short in the area of digital publishing. The audio and video players embedded in PDF files looked really bad in comparison to InDesign produced PDF files with audio and video files embedded within. InDesign one is able to output to Flash (at least when I was using version 5 of the Adobe Suite). Sure, Flash is dead. One of the attributes that I would like within Affinity Publisher would be to create beautiful, elegant looking PDF files with audio and video embedded. The HTML5 Another attribute would be to export to HTML5... Here I envisage web-like pages that can include PowerPointesque slideshows; magazine style web pages and so on. I would imagine that HTML5 could create and include some nice transitions between pages/slides. EPUB Oh! Yes! When it came to EPublications, PagePlus was abysmal. I would want the EPUB capabilities to produce excellent and consistent results each and every time. MOBILE APPS & EXES I would also like Affinity Publisher to produces APKs for Android and the equivalent for iOS apps. I would imagine that this can be achieved by using a combination of HTML5 and Java. NO WEBPLUS EQUIVALENT??? I think it was Alfred who stated that there will be no WebPlus equivalent in the Affinity range and that web page production will not be supported in the forthcoming Affinity Publisher. Is that correct? That would be a terrible shame as WebPlus is such a decent web design application. Affinity Publisher, in theory, could pick up the web design slack. I always appreciated that PagePlus could output pages to HTML. As you can tell from the above text that I am hoping that Affinity Publisher would feature HTML5 output. I do think that web pages and web design are evolving into what I would call "Channels" whereby the web page is looking pretty much like a TV channel - especially now that video has become a major part of the web. I reckon that a "Channel" approach to web pages produced with Affinity Publisher may be the way to go. Well, that's my 2 cents worth! Oh, did I say that I am very curious about Affinity Publisher?
  8. Similar to IOS, Android icons are exported at different scale factors. Please add the option export slices to the standard android sizes: e.g. if the icons in the designer file are MDPI (this is equiv of ios 1x), then the scale factors for each android sizes are: xxxhdpi: 4.0 x mdpi size xxhdpi: 3.0 x mdpi size xhdpi: 2.0 x mdpi size hdpi: 1.5 x mdpi size mdpi: 1.0 (baseline) ldpi: 0.75 x mdpi size Taken from: http://developer.android.com/training/multiscreen/screendensities.html and here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18655194/scale-factor-for-xxhdpi-android Ps: i see in the video, that you have tick boxes for ios 1x, 2x etc, so i assume you could have additional one for android (mdpi, hdpi, xhdpi, xxhdpi):
  9. I've been trying out the new version today having given up previously because of poor export options, I see they've been greatly improved! I would like to use the right workflow for exporting for Android assets. I saw that you can choose lots of options to get for example an .imageset folder for Xcode and this is really great. Android assets are split into sub folders though and there are often 4 or more to create at odd scale factors. What is the best way to do this so I don't have to set up all these scale factors and name all the separate folders I want to export to every time I create a new asset and slice? I saw you can save presets, but can you add and/or create export packages like the one which creates the .imageset package for iOS? Any help on the correct workflow will be gratefully received.
  10. Hi there, firstly, affinity Designer is simply amazing!! I do apologise for this question if it has already been answered, I did have a look through the pages and never saw it. I want to know if Affinity designer would ever have pre built in design templates for UI and Icon Design? I create a lot of iOS and Android icons and design user interfaces for mobile apps also, it would be super cool if Affinity had a preset iOS, Mac OS and Android icon template as well as standardised UI frameworks built in to speed up my design process. If this is not a feature to be considered, is it possible for me to create these frameworks myself and have them stored ready to use when I need them? Thanks
  11. Hi, I am going to make a set of Icons in the material design style, Has anyone got any tips on what size i should make my document, and what grid i should use etc? i took a look at googles guidlines here and underneath is a snippet, how do i create an edge of 1dp? DP unit gridAndroid expects product icons to be provided at 48dp, with edges at 1dp. When you create the icon, maintain the 48-unit measure, but scale it to 400% at 192 x 192 dp (the edge becomes 4dp).
  12. Where can I find the export persona settings? I don't want to export to iOS preset sizes. The current app I'm designing is for android and there for I need a few more sizes then just 1x and 2x. So where can I change this? I hope Serif did not think that it should only be for iOS designers as many designers in general prefer mac over pc and doesn't only design for iOS.
