  1. I wanted to make absolutely sure before purchasing brush sets off of Creative Market... Affinity Designer can import .ai files correct? Are there any special considerations I need to consider? For example, this following brush set: https://creativemarket.com/Guerillacraft/100638-Scatter-texture-brushes-for-AI Would I encounter any problems in AD? I see on the https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/full-feature-list/ that AI is included in importable file extensions but it says "Adobe® Illustrator® AI (containing PDF stream)" Not sure what the last bit means (PDF stream..?) I just wanna buy some cool brush sets on Creative Market! lol :P
  2. Hello. I have been using Illustrator regularly since CS2 (~10 years), and I recently purchased Affinity Designer. I'm interested in a dictionary of Illustrator features and workflows done in Designer. I'm willing to pay $$$ for it too. For example: Illustrator anchor point: Designer it is called an X Illustrator outline mode: Designer go to X menu and click Y Illustrator direct selection tool: Designer combination of X tool and Y tool. If you need to select and move one Z Illustrator reflect tool: Designer not a tool, but reflection function, etc... Unreal Engine has some pretty good Unity to Unreal transition resources (I won't link to them since this is my first post). Does such a resource exist for Affinity Designer?
  3. It would be nice if Affinity Designer could save as an adobe illustrator file. This would overcome the big advantage Adobe has over Affinity, usability. Most people (sad but true) still use Adobe. If Affinity could save as AI, like it can PHD...it would be a big help.

  5. Hello dear Affintiy Team, i just love your application, i am new and switching from illustrator. I couldn't find this topic in the forum: But how can i import content that is outside of an artboard from illustrator. (See Screenshot) I use this space like a desk, so there are a lot of important information, and if i want to move to your app in total, i need this for all my old graphics from illustrator. Thanks for reply. Greetings Dirk
  6. Hi, I've been trying to replace Illustrator with Designer. The tools are fine and are quite similar, but certain functionality is just not replaceable. Within my workflow, I often export ai or dwg from Rhino to further edit in AI. rect_cir.AI is an example. in Rhino, it is a simple rectangle and circle, in a layer colored red and green respectively. When exported as .AI, the Adobe Illustrator can open these just fine even with the layer color information and layer structure. When opening the same file in Designer, there is nothing, only a blank document with the size that should be the overall bounding box. Any ideas, anyone?
  7. Will Adobe Designer eventually be able to export as an .AI file? I was reading in the past about this topic, and someone said it was private. If this is the case, how can any Adobe file be exported at all? How can Adobe Photoshop not be private, whereas Adobe Illustrator is? Please let me know if this changes and explain this topic further so I can understand. What are file formats I can save as to keep it editable for an Adobe user to open Thank you so much!

  9. Hi there, I didn't put this in the 'bug' area because I'm not sure who has the bug. However, in the past after I have got a result from Vector Magic I would usually double click the 'drag me' bit to open Illustrator (the default program to open .ai files) to then work on it. After purchasing and getting myself to get used to AD I have made it the default program to open .ai files, which works nicely, however, when I do the process from Vector Magic it opens AD as expected but the result is a blank page. I have had this since I had AD July 15 when I had Yosemite, it's the same for my 2015 iMac and MBP, and now is the same with OS Sierra on my iMac. Screenies are attached. I just wondered if the bug was with AD with import or VM with export - or just some miscommunication between them. And i'm not like - oh! it must be a convenient a step between them as possible - but I just thought I would mention it :) never know, might be a small thing to make the difference. Vector Magic V1.18
  10. I'm not sure if there is anybody who asked this before, but i just wanna know why we can't save as or export to .ai or .cdr or maybe other extension instead of affinity file? Is it because of something like copyright (?) limitation or will it be a new feature in the future? Thanks
  11. Can we get an equivalent to AI's Ctrl+Shift+M (transform -> move). This is something I am constantly using for exact object/text placement.
  12. Hello, When i edited an "ai" file, AD crashed and get this informations "Attached files". In the second attempt, i could not edit the file anymore (freeze and weird display), but when I restarted AD an other time, all become normal. Best xlynx application_error.xml NET Runtime.xml
  13. Hi. I'm trying to open AI file exported from Rhino 3D modeler. I have been using this workflow with Illustrator and there's no problem but when I opened the file in Designer, it's all blank. Can you please tell me where is the problem? I'm sending you the exported AI file and screenshots from both software after opening the file. Thank you for your help. ico3.ai
  14. Hi, I received a technical drawing, that was exported as an AI file from CorelDraw X3. The file opens perfectly with Illustrator CS6, but is shown as a blank page with AD. The same drawing, exported as EPS from CorelDraw, opens perfectly in AD. Unfortunately, I cannot attach the file, being an ongoing project I'm not authorized to spread. Paolo
  15. Hey, So I just bought Affinity Designer for Windows, and noticed when importing some of my old Illustrator files, that Affinity doesn't import the vector objects that exist outside the page area set in the Illustrator file (I usually place work in progress objects outside the page bounds)... I was wondering, how hard it would be to enable support for importing these out of bounds objects? If Affinity Designer doesn't support off page objects, maybe add a check box on the open window which ignores the original documents page dimensions and sets it to all the available content, not just what's on the page. That way the data is still accessible and not lost after I no longer have access to Illustrator. Cheers, Mark
  16. I am new to AD, I saw this cool Drag and Drop symbol for Ai on the "Creative Market" website and was wondering can this be done in AD. below is a link to a video of what the plug-in does. Any help or insight would be great! video https://creativemarket.com/ianbarnard/762525-Drag-Drop-WoodType-for-Illustrator
  17. Can I open older Adobe AI, PSD, and EPS files in Affinity Designer and work with them with out problems?
  18. Hello guys, I'm a new user and i wanted to know if it's possible to work on Affinity with .ai files ? It seems impossible but maybe there is a converter (from .ai to .afdesign) which allowed me to do it . Thanks a lot ^_^ ^_^
  19. Hallo Team, I have a Flyer which I made for a customer in Illustrator CS 6 as a PDF, I wanted to import it. The problem is after the import, the strokes seem to be offset.. I didn't convert the strokes to outlines before the import and If you need the file or more info please feel free to ask. The file isn't for the Public. Robert
  20. I have a question. In illustrator is something like Live Paint Bucket that allow you to easy filling objects. Is there something like that in AD? Or need to redraw everything using pentool and fill ii with colour? For example I have toothed gear that I want to colour, made it using some circles and lines. Second thing is there a way to 'Origin' point, eg. in the center of circle and move/rotate everything by exactly this point? Its showed there. Maybe its already that in AD, but couldn't find it and searching didn't show something usefull.
  21. Hi, Should be really great if it would be possible saving project in AI format to import them in after effect. Actually, when i use the PDF format, there's some problems with the transparency and gradient. Thanx and thanx for this awesome software!
  22. I just switched from PC to Mac and I have a lot of files in AI created on my now dead PC. When I try to open my AI files with 'open in', AD is offered as default, but files are blank. What to do? Is possible to open AI files created on PC in AD? Do I need some additional soft to translate my old AI files, so that AD will see them?
  23. Hello, I am really liking Affinity Designer as an alternative to using Adobe Illustrator. I am a logo designer/brand consultant, and I find the tools that I require are very well represented in Affinity Designer. In fact, I have yet to find a situation where Affinity has not been able to match Adobe for my purposes. The problem arises when I work within a team or collaborate on something with another designer (which I often do). As most of you are aware, Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard. The problem arises when I work within Affinity Designer but then need to forward the work to another designer to add/edit within Adobe Illustrator. They of course will not get an AI file and, exporting to other file formats (PDF, EPS, SVG) does not always work well. For example, if I am working with gradients, there is almost no way that I can find, to send a file to an Adobe Illustrator user, in which he/she can edit this gradient. It either gets converted to a raster image (PDF, EPS), or, in the case of SVG creates a completely different gradient. The only solution I could think of would be to add an additional charge to my clients/contractors that need me to work within Adobe Illustrator to cover the cost of a one month subscription for Illustrator. I would rather not do this however. Can anyone recommend any sort of solution to this problem? As I said, I would love to have Affinity Designer as my main illustrating tool, however this pitfall makes it difficult to work in a professional environment with other designers.
  24. Is there a way to import all the art boards in an .AI file instead of just the first one? Or at least be able to choose which art board to import?
  25. Hello, I have a commercially purchased/licenced Adobe Illustrator file that contains various images to be cut and past into my document. On loading the AI file into Affinity designer, there is significant Lag/Slowness on selecting an object. I am running a 3.4ghz Core i7 iMac with 32gb memory and 2gb Graphics card. If I open the same file in Adobe Illustrator, there is no perceived lag at all when selecting objects. Because the AI file is commercial, I am unable to post it in this forum as it would breach my licensing terms. How can I get the file to you for investigation? Kind Regards Jason
