  1. Congratulations on your great new photo app, which seems most impressive. I today purchased it from the App Store and would like to become familiar with the details of how to better use it. I found your videos on Vimeo, which is awkward compared to Youtube, and have a problem with how they get cropped on my TV. I was surprised to see your screens on Vimeo losing the edges with the tool bars on a new large Samsung. I have a very advanced TV that doesn't crop anything and works with a wide range of sources. I routinely watch similar videos on Youtube. I also use Airplay to transfer and watch videos without problems. Whatever the problem with your videos, it doesn't relate to the TV. I wonder if there is some practical or commercial reason why they are just not uploaded to Youtube? I notice they will view on an iPad without cropping, in an oddly elongated format, but that is less convenient for watching an hour or so at a time. Apart from the cropping, I was wondering if somewhere you have a list with recommended viewing order of the various features being explained individually. I assume it's best to start with the RAW developer, but any pointers? It's a pity to have to begin here like this, but as a new user this is my first experience of your app. I can see it's impressive, so it would be great not to have hassles with something as basic as the videos.
  2. I use these forums quite a bit to discover how to use Affinity better. These forums however… I'm not sure what is powering them, I guess InVision? I think this is a sub par experience for a number of reasons: - Does not respond effectively to mobile devices - login/lout out is clunky and I often loose my session and have to re-login - Feels super old This last point is hard to nail down but should be fairly apparent. It feels like using a bbs/phpbb form from 2002~ish. There are a lot of great tools for managing communities and forums and as someone who used to work with clients who used InVision is not a good option. To put it simply This (https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/) and This (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php) feel like they come from a different century. Some alternatives: - https://muut.com - http://www.discourse.org - http://zendesk.comexample>>> https://support.todoist.com/hc/en-us Apologies if this sounds overly negative, affinity designer is awesome.
  3. Hello Im a new user to affinity. i heard of this program from people. when i used photoshop. due to bad customer service and basically just scamming people. Because i had a perpetual licence but now it is not ''valid'' anymore. a licence where i paid hundreds of euros for. So im done with that company, adobe that is. Now i heard there was a competitor who is as i must rumors believe. way cheaper and have a better bussines model for consumers. it will probably mean i have the learn a new program but. i would not mind if i escaped form adobe. THE QUESTION: so i have first a 10 day trail. and the file that it downloaded is a dmg file. maybe a noob question. But what is a dmg file and how do i use it or open it. and install it. the file name is: Affinity+Photo+Trial.dmg so if somebody can help me with this. i would be happy. thanks in advance for your help :) with kind regards segert vorster
  4. I would love it if you would create a Video Editing Software like premier (but better obviously) As a college student I have two choices pay the expensive price of £16 a month for Adobe's okay software or get it offline illegally and unsafe. I have already Purchased Affinity Photo, am about to Purchase Affinity Designer but would absolutely love it if there was a affinity video editor for my media. I know this might not be your kinda thing but it would be so great and I know so many people would rather use this than adobe. You're ahead of them, keep it up.
  5. After update on Photo on 1.4 there is no map location for geotagged pictures.
  6. Greetings, I was wondering if there is a way to emulate the VSCO presets in Affinity Photo? I have been looking at my VSCO presets in Lightroom and trying to mimic them in Photo, but can't seem to get it just right. I think most of it is because you can manipulate the camera profiles in Lightroom. Thank you for the help.
  7. Im sure you will have a day of questions like this, so sorry here goes... Bleed: On setting up a new Document there are no bleed settings until after you create a your first artboard, which you have to add by editing Document setup, but then after adding I cant see the bleed guides? am I missing something? Artboards: When working up logos I usually start with about 12 artboards. In the Affinity update I had to create more artboards using the layer pallet (which is a very brilliant way of working artboards) but is there a way of setting these (and bleed) on the new Document panel? Cheeky addition: Also as a nice possible addition, when setting bleed in Adobe products if you input 3mm into the first box, tabbing down duplicates the number so the user doesn't have to type 3mm in each of the 4 boxes
  8. Hello. I want to change the colours of this drawing and more specifically I want to make the lifework white and the background blue, light blue, red etc from top to bottom. Which app should I use? Affinity designer or Photo? What would be the optimal procedure? Antikythera mechanism final.pdf
  9. Can Affinity photo replace or do a job as good as Nik Silver Efex pro for converting to black & white ?
  10. Say you want you want to draw a crow bar, how would i shade it on the curved parts using the gradient tool. So far i know how to shade a circle or rectangle using the gradient feature. And designs ive done which needed shading on curves ive had to make a few seperate darker layers and then used a blur tool to make it look like a gradual shadow. Do any of you know how this can be done an easier way? Thanks in Advance
  11. Hi, I have a question, though: are there any plans to make two new additions to the Affinity Suite? Maybe called Affinity Web (web design without coding app) and Affinity Effects (FX/VFX app)? Now, I know that after the release of Affinity Publisher (which I saw on the Affinity website), Affinity is going to be developed for other OS (such as Windows), linux, and iOS (which means that any other Affinity-based plans won't happen until those are done). But I am curious as to if Affinity Web and Affinity Effects is being considered. Keep up the great work with Affinity!
  12. What's the best way to save a sketch file, important to Affinity and export for Photoshop editing? I currently imported a PDF from sketch into Affinity, tried to export to PSD, but the file size is still zero bites. Any help or references would be greatly appreciated :)!
  13. I am trying to work with tiff files that are CMYK and fairly large. The "large" part isn't the problem - it's the fact that my files are improperly shown, just one part of it and never the whole image. I'm sure that there is nothing wrong with the file because they open just fine in photoshop right off the bat. Please help me out, I really need to get this done for a big project and would like to go Adobe-free as soon as humanly possible.
  14. As Adobe has decided to make the import screen in Lightroom suitable for Instagram users, I have concerns wether Lightroom should be replaced in the future. Adobe makes this concerns even bigger by publishing buggy apps too early which ruin lives of professionals. Last year, Serif came out with this Affinity-suite and I have high hopes that they will release a Lightroom alternative. I am serious about that, since Capture One, well, does not work for me. But if you do, make sure that people can transfer 100k photos with any adjustments non-destructively. I don't know if you have plans for this, or if you have resources for this. But if you have, well, I would be the first to buy. Adobe is going for Instagram users with all their iOS-photoshop-mix-fix crap, which is not what professionals want. I know that one day, I will enjoy Affinity Designer on my iPad without compromises. And I hope you guys could rescue the professional photography business. I know this post has not the right spot in the forum, since everything is about Designer or Photo. But I just want to post this to see wether this could be the future of photography. Any name suggestions for a Lightroom alternative?
  15. Hi guys, i'm looking for a similar tool the "Actions"Photoshop in Affinity Photo. Could anyone tell me which tool has the same function? Thanks! Sorry for my English. ^^'
  16. Okay so after much googling I cannot for the life of me locate the context menu. I want to convert a path to a selection. This is a little frustrating. I've attached a screen cap of my workspace. I think its the menu that comes up in the top giving contextual information about the tool I currently have selected. Bu I cannot find a convert to selection option in it for the pen tool. Is it somewhere else, or do I need to covert the path to curves? UPDATE: Okay so I found it, if you have the node selection tool active it doesn't so up. But if you have the pen tool it is visible.
  17. Just started using Designer, and Photo, this week. Made a quick wish list (feature request grid) sheet on google sheets, Thought I may as well share a public version for people to edit and add their own Wish Items (Feature Requests) to have all in one place. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rilNYZcXRp338ycLsity5Uw4xOXexxfJ3_DKNgzl9WM/edit?usp=sharing
  18. Hi everyone, I have been self publishing my first book, it is an origami tutorial ebook, everything goes well but recently both the Affinity Photo Beta and Affinity Designer Trial I using to process the photo diagram and designing the book have been expired, I want to continue my work with both apps but I can't afford to buy them. I tried to use other free open sources but their difficult interface and poor performance plus I have to relearn everything in this short time really didn't work for me! I have made a fundraiser page to collect donation to buy those apps. total $100 is needed, 5 dollar or 1 dollar per person will helped me a lot to get my goal. I will get my application result to university soon and later will start my university life if the application success. After that, I will have no time to make it. So, I hope I can get helped as soon as possible. Thanks and appreciated! Link: https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/help-chin-to-buy-apps-to-make-his-first-book/x/10397640 Some of the origami models will in the book(total 22 models tutorial, 3 sections, creative monster, movie characters and game characters, all designed by me!) 19. This article by fantastic writer Tom Koszyk https://medium.com/product-design-ux-ui/the-perfect-ux-ui-design-tool-13-things-designers-needs-most-f35589ce18e1 highlights some very good points about Affinity Designer and the competition. I think it was well written and should be taken seriously. My question is: Will the issues raised here be addressed? I want to see Designer win all of these competitions. Thanks.
  20. How can I save a file from affinity photo to jpg (300 dpi). Right now when I am export to jpg, the dpi is 96.
  21. Hi all. I recently purchased both Affinity Designer and Photo (The latest versions from the Apple Store, not the betas), and have been loving them. I have used and am familiar with Illustrator, Photoshop, Gimp and Inkscape. I have been trying to master Designer and Photo, and am liking the workflow over even adobe's offerings. I love the innovative personas. I have run into some issues though. In Designer, I went for the Warp tool (Edit>Transform>Warp in Photoshop) and could not find it. I tried the help menu, this forum, and searching for it, but came up blank. Is it labeled under some other name in Affinity? I also attempted to create a brush from a png i created, but Designer compressed the image until it was much flatter, ruining the brush for me. I know that I am probably just missing something in both scenarios, so I appreciate any attempt to educate me. Maybe I need the Betas? I apologize for my incompetence. Thanks very much, and to the devs, keep up the great work!
  22. Hello, Context: I use Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, but I also use Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop at work. Generally, I don't need to export files to other formats (example: from .afdesign to .psd or .eps) but sometimes I need, and I have problems with it. Question: Is it possible to export .afdesign to .psd, .eps, .tiff, .pdf files and to preserve editability (layers) of those files when I open them with Photoshop or Illustrator,?.. Problem: I tried to export a file form .afdesign to other formats. Illustrator opened them as .jpeg's even if I saved them as .eps or .pdf. I want to save an coloured vector file .afdesign from multiple layers to an other file format, and to be able to edit that file (.eps, .pdf) in Illustrator. Is it possible? Do someone know which are the best practices for this particular case?.. Thank you! :)
  23. Hi - I've been saving up funds to purchase Affinity for Mac and planned on purchasing it through the app store on July 23, 2015 (the last day the $39.99 price was active). When I attempted to purchase the app, the price was $49.99 even though it was 8:30pm July 23, 2015... I reached out to Serif customer support and they instructed me to bring up the issue here. Why wasn't the $39.99 price honored as advertised? Warm regards, jrr52
  24. Hey guys, I love Affinity Photo and Designer, but I can't afford them even the Affinity Photo are in sales now. Or I hope you guys can support me by donating some fund for me so I can buy these apps for my book making( I will use affinity designer to make an app after my book!) https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/help-chin-to-buy-apps-to-make-his-first-book/x/10397640 I'm 20 years old, started my venture early this year, but not enough fund to let me buy these apps, I hope you can support me so I can continue my venture! 25. Hi everyone, I'm new on Affinity Designer and I got a problem concerning the path type. ( I've already checked the instructions in the helped menu but that doesn't work for me ). I hope you'll understand me because I work on the french version so that the traduction of the tools may not be exact. Well here's my problem: First I create the curve that will define the curve of my text, then I use the text box tool and I click on the curve I've juste created in order to insert a text that follows the curve. The text insertion zone is in the rectangular zone that defines the curve but the text doesn't follow the curve !! The photo attached shows where my text insertion zone is and how my text appears when I try the make a path type Thank you so much if someone here can help me, I've tried everything and I'd be very grateful ! :) Antonin
