  1. I have a very unusual PDF printing issue which I can't figure out. Steps: I create a document in Affinity Designer and exported to PDF for print. I open the PDF (which looks fine) and select print (the print review box looks fine) Once printed, there is a large "gap" on the top of the page and the bottom is cut off. Investigation: Print directly from Affinity designer - all is Ok Print standard Microsoft printer test page - all is OK Create PDF from Word - all prints OK Printer settings tired with PDF created from Affinity - print 100%, print original size, fit to sheet It still prints top gap and cuts off the bottom Create new document in Affinity (just a rectangle) and export to PDF - same issue as above I'm at a loss here - any ideas?
  2. I've reported this issue to the Twitter team and they have asked me to post this here. Having created an illustration I selected one of the objects to check the size. For some reason I just decided to I click on the X and Y values in the Transform Panel and press 'Enter' and as I did this I noticed that the object moved ever so slightly. The same happens with Height and Width respectively. It's as though the values in the Transform Panel boxes don't match the size of the object on-screen. This happens in new documents too and isn't just on the illustration document. It happens in whatever unit of measurement I have the document set to and can be seen more clearly when zoomed in. Perhaps there's a tolerance between each digit in relation to the preview on-screen? Apple iMac 21.5-inch macOS Catalina 10.15.1 Affinity Designer 1.7.3 Document set to A3 Landscape CMYK with Create Artboard turned on Create a rectangle Click on the rectangle Go to the transform panel and observe the values shown Click on each of the values but don't change them and simply press 'Enter' If it behaves like mine you should be able to see the rectangle change ever so slightly Attached is a quick recording of this happening. After clicking on the values in the Transform Panel boxes, I simply press 'Enter' on the keyboard and the object changes as shown. This doesn't sound like much of a problem but when working on intricate illustrations with lots of detail, the slightest unintended movement or alteration can mess things up. Is this a bug or simply a programmed behaviour that I just need to get used to? Hope that helps! Affinity Designer Glitch.mov
  3. Hey! I do transit diagrams and maps for fun in my free time! Here is my unofficial transit diagram of the tramway in Liberec and between Liberec and Jablonec, Czech Republic. Showing all four lines in operation as of Oct. 2019. Colors for each line are introduced. Also included are the railway lines. Have fun! And feedback is always welcome. Chris
  4. Hey you all! I do transit maps and transit diagrams for fun in my spare time. In the last two days I was creating my version of the Kharkiv metro after a "request" by @AmateurAffiniter :-) In the maps (white and black) the present network, the two station on the green line under construction and also the further planned network are shown. As usual if you find any mistakes, errors please tell me :-) Have a great day, Chris
  5. In this video, I'm demonstrating how to create a long shadow effect to any text in Affinity Designer. I hope you enjoy it!
  6. When I right-click on a .JPG image file, Affinity apps are no longer showing up as options in the "Open With" context menu under Mac OS Catalina (attachment 1). Even when I select "Open With>Other", select Affinity Photo, and check the "Always Open With" box (attachment 2), I get a dialog warning me that "macOS cannot verify the developer"... (attachment 3) HOWEVER, when right-clicking on .PNG, .GIF files, the Affinity apps appear in the context menu as they always have! Note: I *have* opened System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Photos to allow Affinity Photo to have access to my photos, but Affinity Publisher is the only app that appears in the list (attachment 4). I *am* able to open Affinity Photo, drag-and-drop the .JPG image into the editing window, work on it, and save it back out; I just can't open the image with a right-click. Would really like to have this functionality back. Is this an Affinity issue, or an Apple issue? Thanks!
  7. This is my third portrait of a female, the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe. When I started this work I wasn't sure whether to draw extreme detail like pores and every strand of hair, which would have required some level of imagination since the quality of the reference photo was not too good. But while progressing I began to lean more towards creating a visual impression rather than going photo realistic. The impression being a soft, dreamy image. The dimensions at which this work was drawn are height x width = 165 x 126 cm. But since it entirely consists of vectors it can be re-scaled to any desired size without loss of quality. 8. This normally occurs when the .EPS file contains embedded Adobe Illustrator data that Affinity can't read. This is because the .EPS format doesn't support features such as blend effects, transparency, mesh fills etc. Unfortunately, there's little we can do and we would suggest that you get a .PDF copy of the file to use in Affinity.
  9. Yes, but they need to contain an embedded PDF compatible file/stream. When we open .ai (Adobe Illustrator) files into our apps, we actually open and display the embedded PDF compatible file/stream. If you open an .ai (Adobe Illustrator) file that doesn't contain an embedded PDF compatible file/stream, you will get the following message:
  10. Hello community, I would like to use this post to ask everyone to show something done in Affinity Designer, Photo or Publisher, main theme Halloween. It does not matter if it is something simple or complex, it is simply to show something done by you. To start, here is my contribution.
  11. Hello all, I've been looking for an answer to this through searching around but haven't found a clear answer, so I decided to bring my concerns here before I tear my hair out. Forgive me if the answer is simple or if I missed something obvious here. I've been interested in doing some simple, line and trim animations in After Effects based on pre-done and similar vector element in Affinity Designer. However, I'm encountering a problem in that, while I am able to export the shapes and elements to use for this process, I am unable to do the same with paths, which makes the trim path function... rather awkward to use. When I researched this, it seemed like there is a way to do this, but it was not explained clearly, so I don't know where I am making any errors. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. A very simple set of shapes, and a first post of something I've done with Designer on iPad ... Feedback welcome.
  13. hey folks, a tutorial showing the real process of making an illustration using Affinity Designer, enjoy! With nice tips, I hope you will enjoy!
  14. My affinity designer keep lagging once I draw a fair amount of art on my canvas and after a while it crashes its so annoying and never did this till yesterday pleeeaasssseee HELP!! I need to get my art done I've tried all I can. restarted my whole computer shut it down all. I have an MacOS... Processor - 3.4 GHz intel Core i5, Memory - 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 (I've deleted several things from my Mac and have lots of space for more) Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2 GB. Please get back to me!
  15. I added some text with layer effects (shadow, outer glow) on a gradient background. Here is how it's appearing at 90% zoom. Exported it into EPS with these settings: Opened the EPS and there are visible "rectangles" or "box" around the text! It's more visible in the latter text. I also noticed this in layers by hiding the background layer. Tried converting the text to curves. No change in result. I've attached the afdesign and EPS file. Is this a bug? TEST.afdesign TEST.eps
  16. Hello designers, first of all Happy Halloween to you all. I could not miss this occasion to make a small tutorial of a witch cauldron. Soooooo enjoy:
  17. Curious about this Screen Recording permission request. It popped up when I chose the Color Studio color picker and closed itself when I started sampling. (Update: Request added to Privacy panel.) Affinity Designer 1.7.3, Mac App Store; Mac OS 10.15.1
  18. Hi I am experiencing ghosting of graphics when using affinity designer latest update version 1.7.3.481 and nvidia quadro k4200 graphics - using latest drivers. video can be viewed here:
  19. Hey guys there is a bug when using Rectangular frame selector in MAC, it gets the last operation freeze and doesn't let you for example use this frame rectangle selector and then delete or use a function. This probably is because some missing keys in the code or a bad asynchronous implementation or dismiss function call in the class. The workaround for these issues sure, is to try another function and return to this one, but for unexperienced IT users this is annoying.
  20. In Designer, I have an object that is 330pt X 330pt... ...that contains an image which is 405pt X 405pt, masked to 330pt X 330pt... When I go to create a slice from this 330pt X 330pt object... ...it creates the slice at the internal, non-masked image size I'm *not* concerned about the additional pixel 406x406 vs 405x405, but rather, I want the created slice to have the same dimensions 330x330 as the object I used to create it and not include the blank space left by the image mask. Any ideas how to make the created slice start with the same dimensions as the object from which it was created?
  21. For a scouting handbook I would like to draw some step-by-step guide for creating certain knots. Like the one attached. Is there a way to create brush in Affinity Designer to draw the rope? Any idea? Best regards, Holger
  22. Hi can you possibly tell me why I have part of my background showing through on this dove in Affinity. If you look at the wing of the dove, the blue background is showing through in a really weird way. I know how to get rid of the pencil line (please ignore the pencil), but the blue on the wing from the background is really baffling me because it's not part of the group, and it's further down the layer chain as the background. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the endpoint on the wing attaching itself to another part of the dove. I've tried breaking the endpoint to make sure there's no join, and also tried to make sure that while the bird is a group layer, it's attached correctly. Thanks.
  23. Hi Im using affinity designer iPad version. It is working good. But when l export to eps files and open on Ai all layer grouping are not correct. I separate one cartoon in one group but when export sometime it merge with some object in another group. when look in AI the result is correct but layer ordering and grouping is nightmare.please help check and suggest.
