  1. Forest Thing photo art for your viewing pleasure! Took me ages to complete, oh how I suffer for my art. Don't tell me you like it, it only encourages my bad behavior.
  2. Hi Guys, just wanted to introduce myself. I have been using 3d modelling and rendering for a few years now and am very enthusiastic about 3d rendering (Archvis) I hav come to a stage where I can only progress further with the addition of post production into my workflow. It was a hard pill to swallow as I have risisted post production for so long now. I think it was because 3D modelling and rendering takes a long time to get any good with lots of practice and learning another program would have hurt my brain;) I was looking for which program to use for post production and Affinity Photo was recommended to me by a few people that I respect. I use Sketchup, Autocad, Twinmotion, Raylectron. I am starting from scratch with post producion for Archvis and am very keen to learn the art of image manipulation, Please forgive me if I ask stupid questions, and please be patient with me. I have added a few images of my work with no post production just so you know what I am into

  5. I understand that Affinity Photo can use LUTs. While I do not have Affinity Photo (I would have gotten it recently had I not been too busy working on my fonts to notice it was 50% off, but I missed that and now have to wait for the next time they discount it like that), I do use LUTs in my video work. Indeed, not only do I use them, I actively create them. And I go against the grain by making them small. For some reason many people seem to believe that the larger a LUT the better. That may be true occasionally, but there are myriads of color filters that can be fit into the smallest LUT possible (which is eight data lines in case of 3D LUTs), and making them bigger is actually a bad idea. I actually created an OFX plug-in (they are used in video editing) for color grading which makes sure all it does can be fit into such a small LUT. The original plug-in is kind of small (I have learned a lot since creating it), and in 2019 I wrote a library of routines (seen here, though with no documentation yet), to rewrite my plug-in with. But then I got very sick (no, not with Covid), spent most of 2020 in medical care, after which I started working on my fonts, so my OFX plug-in has to wait. But I still use the original plug-in, have created a wide variety of LUTs, all small of course. Just this morning, I have been playing with it, and came up with an interesting (or so I think) LUT I named tehla (which means brick in Slovak) because it sort of strengthens brick like colors in an image, making it warmer, especially in photos and videos of human faces. So I thought I’d share the .cube version of it with anyone here who might want to play with it in their Affinity Photo (I hope .cube is the right format for it). I have never uploaded any LUT here, so I hope I have done it correctly for you to get it from here. If not, I will just copy and paste it in the next message. After all, it is a very small LUT. 6. Quick Explanation When I try to export slices created from layers, the output files are not cropped to the document. I can "Rasterize & Trim" each layer to get the desired output, but I'd like a non-destructive way to do it. Any ideas? Detailed Explanation I'm taking photos of a number of products, each of which have 6 photos of the same size. My goal is to keep one AFPhoto file per product with each of the 6 photos as layers, with all edits made non-destructively, and then export each photo with a lower resolution (for web) in bulk to a designated "Processed Photos" folder. Here's my current, problematic workflow: Open up all product photos as layers in one AFPhoto file Perform various edits, including rotating, cropping, etc to each layer Create slices from layers in Export Persona Set up export settings and export each slice to the destination folder The problem is that the output files are not cropped to the document boundary as shown in AFPhoto. I can solve this problem by selecting each layer and choosing "Rasterize & Trim", but this is destructive, which I don't want. Appreciate the help. I'm guessing it's a pretty simple solution, but I'm an amateur at this software.
  7. The live filter "Median Blur" creates black corners. AP 1.10.5
  8. I do hundreds of the history portraits, first in AP then imported into AD where I use half a dozen export sizes. I used the paint mixer brush for Rodin, the rest mostly regular brush. I really wish the paint mixer brush worked better. I do have my wacom table mixer brush set for C & L. But the mixer brush is just not as good as painter or photoshop, which I've mostly given up for Affinity Photo. I do have hope that it will get better in future versions
  9. If you pick a thick brush from "Basic" group and paint some shapes you will notice the following issues: 1. Center color is more transparent(gray) and border is more opaque(black). NOTE: If you reduce "flow" parameter to 10%, the center of the brush becomes more opaque, which is very strange. (see uploaded image) 2. "Blend mode" has a lot of interesting options but they don't seem to change anything, in most cases. I've been programming computer games and graphic effects some time ago and had to solve similar problems related to transparency calculations. I hope it helps. Nothing more to say, except that your software is very good, congrats.
  10. I am unable to use Apple iPhone RAW DNG files (taken from iPhone 12 Pro) in either Affinity Photo (1.9) or also latest beta 1.9.4.242. The DNGs open but they are quite washed out - the same washed out look as though it were film and I were shooting in sLog. These DNG files open in a variety of other photo editing apps quite nicely, just not in Photo. The only workaround is opening in Mac OS Preview and saving as TIFF. Then it all works. But I would prefer to use RAW. Please see one of these files attached. IMG_2655.DNG

  13. Hi guys, here's a new video about how to edit pdf file using Affinity Photo. I hope you enjoy and learn something new from this video, thank you!
  14. Hey guys, I found this weird problem, while importing 32bit .tif files. Photoshop and Windows can preview them normally, but Affinity is adding white boarders around the white areas. Hope to get help here... Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thank you Jonny
  15. I purchased Affinity Photo months ago. Ever since then, I have been having a few issues with the software. The issues I'm having with the software are the layers are blurred or something like that for a few seconds when I use Effects. When I used the text or a specific type font or do anything with the text, like change the size of the text, duplicate the text, and move the text, the transparent canvas would show up (some of the transparent canvas would show up). Also, when I open up a file, the layers, adjustments, layer effects, and live filters become blurred for a few seconds, then go back to normal. Now, I'm going to tell Affinity support about the issues I'm having, but I just want to post it in this forum to see if anyone else is having the same issues, as I am. Also, if someone could help me solve these issues.
  16. trying to open a file via right click in finder. Then, most of the times, but not always, system gets unusable because it messes with the screen – and I've got the feeling inoput via mouse / trackpad / keyboard isn't working but that's hard to tell because it is like flying blind. 17. Hi, I have been designing new 'Nature' brushes in Affinity Photo so that I can create nature scenes, micro worlds and greeting card designs. Its only a 'rough'; needs a bit of work... I have been using Affinity Photo for a while now - ever since Adobe decided that they were going to force their users to 'RENT' their software and that they are no longer interested in lowly individual designers, they are only interested in large corporate accounts. So I switched to Affinity Photo/Designer. And I am SO GLAD that I did. They are awesome! I also have been using CorelDraw and Corel Painter for many years (longer than I used Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign). I started using CorelDraw with version 5, and Painter when it was owned by Fractal Design, also version 5. I can remember opening CorelDraw when I first purchased it and just staring at all the tools and the blank page. Previously I had only used Word. I tried to type something. Nothing. So I closed it. I kept opening it up and just looking in awe at the tools, then finally I read some of the manual, checked out the Help files and figured it out. This started my interest in digital design. Later, I became a Graphic Designer and worked for nearly 20 years at Deutsche Bank doing cover design, Powerpoint template design, redrawing logos and maps, animation and so much more. There is a whole hidden industry of design, 'Presentation Design' and 'Presentation Specialist' jobs and you can get into this market if you use Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Its a great place to start your design career. Not only London, but all over the globe - Sydney, Australia, New York, Paris, Frankfurt... anywhere large corporations have a 'Presentations' department. Check out the job opportunities by typing 'Presentations Design' in Google. Create a portfolio. And if your portfolio is good, they will train you. I usually use Painter to create my greetings cards and have hundreds of Painter brushes - gold, jewels, silver, glass, diamonds, pearls, satins and silk brushes, and, of course, hundreds of 'Nature' brushes. This is the first one I have done using Affinity Photo. It has taken me a long time to create all the brushes of stones, rocks, rock faces, trees, lichen, toadstools, twisted branches, moss, ferns and to adjust the brush settings just to begin painting with them. Hope you like it... Del Hope you like it...

  19. Hi guys, here's another new video about how to create a speed effect in Affinity Photo. I hope you enjoy and learn something new from this video, thank you!
  20. My latest digital painting effort. A strange world on the edge of the milky way, featuring mermaids, nonapuses and lollipop spaceships. Nonaptych versions can been visualised at @minimowlism and @MNMWLSM on Instagram. Figured out how to draw rocks and mermaids now 👍 Also discovered a use for Inner Glow - I found that by adding a 0.1px effect (white) to some of the rocks layers helped them blend together better and smoothed some of the edges.
  21. I tried some variations. Not so good, not so bad. Need some improvements.
  22. I work on a PC, Windows 10, have the 1.10.5.1342 version of Affinity Photo. I edited a brush and though it shows the changes in the brush panel, when I use it the changes don't take. I just get a line of the image. It's the jitter. It is set for pressure but I'm using a mouse and it never bothered before. I tried the other choices and they don't work either. I exited and tried again on a new document and with different brushes a couple times. Same thing happened. Here's an example. So what did I do wrong this time?
  23. Hi, I'm Nekodificador, visual artist and content creator from Spain. I have a Youtube channel where I show my workflows, secrets and teach retouching and compositing throught tutorials. I fell in love with Affinity Photo but when I wanted to change from Photoshop it took me a while to learn it, so I did a video where I show how to do a few things in Photoshop and how to "translate" them into Affinity Photo. It is in spanish, but I hope it will be useful for everyone. Btw, it seem like we have new brothers in our community after this video. Oops hahah
