  1. Hey all, just wanted to share a few of the (many) photos I took during my holiday last week in Malta. We previously went to Malta in May of this year and liked it so much we went back! This time I brought some camera gear that I didn't chance taking last time, including a tripod, flash gun and portable light, so I was able to get some shots I would have previously struggled with. First up is a long exposure panorama of Valletta from Sliema Bay: Valletta at Night by James Ritson on 500px.com Then, on our last night, having wound down and packed all my gear up, we were treated to one of Malta's occasional thunderstorms. I quickly unpacked and went up to the rooftop of the guest house to capture several long exposures, which I then composited into this: Thunderstorm in Mellieħa by James Ritson on 500px.com We also got a ferry across to Comino, which was absolutely packed with tourists. A short walk later to the more arid areas, however, and I saw some tiny lizards: Suspicious Lizard by James Ritson on 500px.com Now, my partner is a bit of a poser (something she'll admit herself), but she doesn't usually like standing around to be photographed in the UK because it's quite cold. Give her some blistering heat, however, and she'll model all day! Test of Strength by James Ritson on 500px.com We ended up doing quite a few photoshoots (I've only edited two or three images so far): Not Impressed by James Ritson on 500px.com Rabat Arch by James Ritson on 500px.com And finally for now, we visited the National Park which is an interesting little place in itself, but I discovered what seemed to be a disused rail yard across the road. I got a few photos of the area, but this one jumped out at me because of all the textures: Rusty by James Ritson on 500px.com Anyway, just wanted to share a few photos, I'll possibly add some more when I get around to editing them (there's quite a backlog...) - thanks for looking and hope they give you some ideas!
  2. This is an old issue that happens in every version of AP going back to 1.6. Whenever a new doc is created, as soon as I manipulate the art board using Trackpad gestures (pinch to zoom, scroll) , I get the graphical mess obscuring the blank view, effectively preventing me from even starting. The weird thing is that it manifests after long period of inactivity or - and this is just a wild guess – after system reboot. I can never know when and why it will emerge again. Launching it more than once, I now can't even get those zigzags to record with QuickTime Player to demonstrate. Occasionally, the mess occurs when I open a new doc but other than that it goes away. I know for sure the issue keeps out of sight to return later at some point. The OS in question is Mac OS X Lion.
  3. I have opened windows of photos in Affinity Photo that I want to combine in an HDR image. How can I add these open windows directly to a new HDR merge? When I select a few photos in the desktop Mac Photos with the Affinity Photo plugin extension, Affinity Photos opens with windows for the selected photos open. However, when I select new HDR merge, I can't find the photos already open in Affinity Photo to add to the HDR merge and I can't enter the Mac Photos Library through the HDR merge window's "add" button. My tedious work around has been to export the selected photos from Mac Photos to a separate folder and then add the exported files to a new HDR merge, then after creating a new HDR image in Affinity Photos, import it back into Mac Photos. The whole process uses my time and storage very inefficiently and defeats the whole purpose of the Affinity plugin for Mac Photos, so there must be a better way that I haven't been able to discover. I look forward to your guidance in using the Photos plugin to efficiently create HDR images.
  4. I’m having some difficulties opening a few PSD files in Affinity Photo : the application instantly crashes. Meanwhile… Affinity Designer does open the file without any problem ? Even saving the files as Affinity Designer files, opening them in Affinity Photo crashes the application. 11 low.psd

  8. Thought I'd share some of the stuff I just started creating in AP. Took me a bit to get past some interface issue but I'm getting to where I'm comfortable with a workflow in AP. These are just studies and not intended as finished work. Enjoy. 9. I will be teaching Affinity Photo in my class. I never have more than two students at a time in one month period. I am teaching adults how to run an office, do graphics and create a website. I used to use Photoshop but I believe I will like Affinity Photo even more. My question is this: Can I install just one licensed program on a total of four computers. One in my office and one on my classroom computer and my two students computers. All will be in the same building and all will be using Windows 10 and all are desktop computers.Or do I have to buy four licenses? Thank you!
  10. Hallo, why does the emboss layer effect only work at a certain opacity of the brush? Or have I overlooked a setting?
  11. Hi There: I'm not sure if this is a challenge with Affinity Photo (1.7.2) or Windows 10 (latest updates installed) but I'll throw it out there. While I'm still using Lightroom 6.14 for my photography, I'm also using Capture One 12.1 in a hybrid workflow for my Sony A7R III (.arw) files. I use Affinity Photo rather than Ps for pixel editing. Now, in Capture One, I can right-click on an image and select Edit with or Open with and it brings up a list of software I can use for additional editing. C1 first creates a .tif file, then sends the rendered image to the program of choice. On that list are Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher, but not Affinity Photo. I can go to browse, go to the correct folder and select photo.exe, but I have to do that every time. I asked this question on the C1 forums and someone suggested I get Windows to associate Affinity Photo with my .arw files. So, I did a quick search, right-clicked on an image file, selected Open With, chose Affinity Photo and set it to use as default for this file type. What happened is that Windows added a .comask extension to the file name - i.e. filename.arw.comask and then Affinity Photo told me (of course) that it couldn't open a .comask file. Any suggestions appreciated!
  12. Hi . Sorry for bothering - but I have kind of a. problem . I m using Affinity Designer / Photo Combo for work. For around 5 days Im struggling to launch any of this applications. Both are crashing at launch with very similiar crash report. Ive tried reinstallation, master reset, Mac OS safe mode deleting save files etc. Still the same result. There is some memory problem - but as far as I know - lack of RAM problem is not a deal in Mac OS. Storage - still a lot of space. Thanks in advance for reply and help. Crash report in attachment. 14. Here's the 2nd section of Part 2 (and here's the 1st section of Part 2 from last week). Part 1 is here. I'm prepared to get some flack over my treatment of AP's Develop Persona. If that includes you, please offer specifics as to what you find wrong AND how to make it right. As an old boss said - you can't just use your pencil's eraser! My biggest beef is the fact that Develop Persona is destructive. Second place goes to having a white picker for white balance in Photo, but not in Develop. Third - Why are overlays available only in Develop. I guess Serif has good reasons, but the logic escapes me. Bottom line is that I recommend bypassing Develop - just open the RAW file and click on Develop Persona's develop button to switch to Photo Persona (then use Layer>New Adjustment Layer to access Develop tools that are free from the destructive DP issues; return to DP when necessary for DP unique features like Overlays and camera unique options, etc.). Different strokes to different folks, just my opinions. Thanks
  15. Hi, I am using a new 11‘ iPad Pro with 512gb and I am trying to stack several (Raw) images into one. Stacking 10 images seems to take around 10 minutes, for me that seemed to be pretty long. So I checked the CPU load when Affinity Photo stacks the images and my iPad is hovering at around 26%. When idling it is at 4,5% (see attached image). Is this normal or a bug in Affinity Photo for iPad? Maybe the process is running on just one core? Thanks Mathias
  16. Hey all-- I've been attempting to batch export a number of affinity files to jpeg. When I do so, the program crashes every time. I am running a batch with one macro--add watermark, which involves opening a file as a layer and adjusting its position slightly. I am running 1.7.2 and have a fully updated MacBook Pro: 10.14.6. I have attached a photo of the basic specs for my computer. I have also attached a .rtf file of the crash report. I have plenty of free space on my hard drive, considering my computer was only bought five days ago. I adjusted the settings in the affinity photo preferences so that there is PLENTY of RAM to which it has access (it is actually on the max setting) and the warning for CPU usage is quite high, as well. I am attempting to save to jpeg, as I mentioned, with quality at 100. Last night, when I built the aforementioned macro, I attempted to batch export several files (4) and the operation was completed successfully. Today, I am not able to batch process even one photo without the program crashing. I have attempted to process this with parallel processing AND without parallel processing--neither has any effect on the crash. I read in another post (listed below) that this problem had been rectified with an update to the software; however, I can assure you it is still a problem. One of the most important reasons I have for using Affinity Photo is the ability to batch export. If this doesn't work, it will affect my ability to do my job--I certainly can't export photos one by one. I will also add that I have tried closing all applications on my computer, shutting it down, allowing it a tiny bit of rest, and turned it back on. I found that these actions did not affect the crash; however, I could not call myself IT (or a fan of IT Crowd) had I not attempted such a solution. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Please review all the details of my post before responding. Affinity Photo Crash Report.rtf

  18. Hi, I have a problem. I'm working with a Macbook Pro, Retina, 13 '' , at this time my monitor is on 1440 * 900 Pixels. In Affinity Photo in 100% should 1 Pixel be 1 Pixel. But Affinity Photo shows more than 2700 * 1200 which is more than the maximum capacity of the 13'' Retina (which has maximum 1680 * 1050 Pixel. It is a problem if i prepare photos for Websites, because in Safari the pics are normal size, in Affinity photos, due to the big resolution, the photos are half size of what they should be (View 100% Pics with 72 dpi) Any help? Mike

  21. Dear Dev-Team, can you please bring the Resource Manager from Publisher to the Photo and Designer as well? At least for the Designer it would be a nice feature not to save large images within the .afdesign file. In the case you have to work with images/source files from other sources it would make things easier to update them in the progress. Thanks.
  22. A few days ago I posted Affinity Photo User Guide Part 1, Workspace & UI Part 2 is about a month away, but I'm going to try post the individual sections here, as I post them on my website. Here's the first Opening & Saving Images I'll add them to the on-line eBook when Part 2 is complete.
  23. Had a fun little play around manipulating fire! I think I need to spend a little more time refining the masking especially on the fingers but otherwise it was pretty easy to do! I used Live Filter > Sharpen > Clarity to get some grungy face texture going on, a few adjustment layers for lighting and then I masked in some flame images from a resource pack I bought earlier in the year Who else enjoys taking derpy selfies to manipulate?
