  1. Hello, I'm a beginner Affinity Designer & Photo user, and I would like to know if there are any tools or options to show center lines of selected areas or the canvas, to help me with work on my project.
  2. Hello! My name is Mikołaj but you can call me Mik. I've been using affinity software since first release in 2014 for graphic design(any kind of user interface design and visual identity assets). Lately some idea popped in my head – I am using the same tools in the same way all the time, so to prevent some kind of stagnation I want to challenge myself to create different kind of artwork that I usually do. Goal: Creating artwork from scratch in a poster format using every tool that is available in the software. I invite you to enjoy this journey with me. 001
  3. Bought ‘Mystical Lights - Overlay Collection’ recently and played with a few of the included jpg’s. Decided on one of the ’Sun Beams’ with ‘Colour Burn’, overlaid on an image of a bright orange ‘Marigold’ and did a little bit of erasing. Tweaked photo with AP first, then modified, sized and exported with AD (jpg for website and pdf for printers). Very pleased with results. Now created a series of flower blooms with the same settings, probably do a lot more! Photos on website(work in progress): https://sbeech.uk/ BTW: Cannot upload photo, keep getting 200 error?
  4. Hi. Looong time Photoshop user here, my first PS came on floppy's. I still use Adobe professionally at work but I wanted a cheaper photo editor at home. An alternative who isn't bogged down with options I never use / touch. So Affinity it was! Black and white colorization was on my bucket list for a long time. So I used it to learn Affinity Photo. Learning new techniques along with new software is generally not a good idea. But AP passed on all fronts. I like it so much I even use it as my personal photo editor. I'll update this thread from time to time if it's appreciated.
  5. I keep getting an error when using the extension in photo.app. I am using Affinity photo 1.8.3 on Macbook pro 10.15.6. Also I have attached screen shots to help with figuring out this bug. Also Note I have purchased the App Store I bought it directly from your website. If that matters.
  6. Photo retouching/restoring. Client asked "See what you can do." Could use a little more refinement, in my opinion, but the client had ZERO expectations and was blown away by the results. He said where it was at was fine. This is the first real retouching job I did with Affinity Photo so it was learning as I was going. Never looking back at Adobe. The future is Affinity.
  7. Hi I have just started using Affinity Photo and have yet to find I use Serif Photoshop and also Gimp. Both of these have the option to Copy a Selection and then Paste as A New Image where the selection was made into a new image whose size was automatically set up by the command. I haven't yet found a way to do the same in Affinity Photo. Can anybody tell me if it can be done Ian
  8. Hello, In short: I work on Windows 7 Pro with Affinity Photo 1.8.3 I am proposed to update to the new version 1.8.4; as the other times I have performed the whole procedure, I download the file and run it, the usual update window comes out and after a while everything ends with 'Update completed correctly'. I open the program and the file I was working on; I have to make a selection, I take the Selection Brush tool (W) and I start but instead of following the object the selection goes on its own and despite my efforts the problem has not been solved. I use the Pen Tool (P) to solve but, as soon as I clicked on the image, blue lines started in all the uncontrolled and uncontrollable directions; maybe I said to myself on the image there is something that causes these malfunctions, I take the Zoom Tool (Z) and drag to enlarge but it happened that the image enlarged and shrunk in meaningless shots going from poster format to stamp format. I close the image and the program, I reopen it and try to work with the Clone Brush Tool (S) but as soon as I click on the image the program freezes irreversibly so much that it forces me to turn off the PC. Having urgency to work, I started a backup of the system and Acronis has restored my 1.8.3 which works satisfactorily. Previous updates had always worked perfectly. The question is: was it just my bad luck or did others have similar malfunctions? I ask you what to do: forget about the update or what? Thank you for your patience ...
  9. If you open an image and rotate it and simply close the application from the X on the top right hand corner, it simply closes without prompting to save changes. This is with the latest AP build (1.8.4).
  10. Hi! The layer context menu from the Layers panel offers a row of colors at the bottom which can be used to assign color tags to layers. However, saving a layer composition with color tags applied as a snapshot and then restoring that snapshot will result in the removal of all color tags from the layers – either because these don't get saved with snapshots or because loading a snapshot deliberately resets all layer color tags for some reason. This is not a new problem with the 1.8.4 updates, I just didn't have time to create this topic earlier. Also, although I posted this in the Affinity Photo Bug forum, the problem is reproducible with Affinity Designer as well. I'm on Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer 1.8.4 under macOS 10.15.6 Catalina. I don't know if this has been reported before, but a quick forum search didn't bring up anything related. Cheers kaffeeundsalz
  11. How can I get the Isometric panel in Photo? I was playing with custom cube grid in Grid and Snapping axis yesterday and the panel appeared allowing me to fit artwork to grid. But now I can't get it back, it is not in View > Studio. Does anybody know?
  12. I'm running Affinity Photo 1.8.3 on a 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar with 32 GB of RAM under macOS 10.14.6 Mojave. Printing is excruciatingly s-l-o-w. For the print dialog even to appear took 1 min. 15 sec.! Savor that number. It means after clicking File | Print... I had to wait 1 min. 15 sec. just to see anything happen at all. Since the default printer is not the one I use for printing photos, the first thing I do in the Print dialog is change the printer. After selecting the printer in the dropdown list I had to wait 1 min. 20 sec. before the new printer's name replaced the old one's. After that I changed the ICC profile and the print quality, then clicked Print. It took 1 min. 15 sec. until the Printing message disappeared. Printing an exported .jpg or .tiff in Preview takes nowhere near as long. 2 min. 35 sec. just to change the default printer in the Print dialog!!!
  13. I used the new brushes and texture overlays I made to promote my new quick-start kits on my Gumroad store. This was the result! I teach English, and only get to draw in my free time. I'm still working up the courage and energy to do a complete dragon illustration. Will post here when I do! - Cheers!
  14. What to do on a boring rainy weekend? I thought I would try and get some more milage out of the UFO pictured in "Contact" and revisit "Close encounter" by adding oodles of detail to the Conny. The Conny herself is from a picture I took of the Breitling Conny at her base in Basel. I think it turned out well.
  15. Just me having some fun in the latest Photo Beta after all the shortcut and brush precision API improvements. Really looking forward to the official release and soon 1.9! 🥳
  16. I own both the mac and the windows versions of AP. For some odd reason, the isometric panel is not available in the windows version of AP. It is however available in the mac version. I have tried numerous times to check and also open the studio view but just not there? I think this is a bug and needs to be fixed
  17. I have Affinity Photo 1.8.3 installed on Windows 10 and am having a lot of problems. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my graphic driver software because others on line said that might help, it didn't. 1) Constantly not responding, freezing (just stopped responding and won't start working for several minutes), and sometimes it just shuts down without notice, poof. But each and every time I use it, it will stop responding several times. This happens a lot when I have to use large size brushes, erasers, clone tools etc. Just changing the size (not yet using them) will cause a "not responding". Thank goodness for your ask to recover unsaved file because saving often causes a freeze up too. 2) Any other program that may be in use at the time - Firefox, iTunes, Affinity Designer, Task Manager, or even File Explorer, etc - will stop responding and sometimes crash. No i'm not running them all at the same time. 3) Sometimes keystrokes won't work and tools won't switch even if I use the mouse or pen. The tool square shows to be highlighted but doesn't change on screen - sometimes the tool may still work though other times it won't. It often stays on as the hand tool or the move tool. I've checked the keyboard, and it only does this in Affinity programs. It doesn't matter what size document I'm working with and I primarily work with 300 dpi, 12x12 inch or smaller documents. I'd understand if it was huge but it's not. I tried saving more often because it seemed to get worse if I waited more than 5 minutes, but it still freezes. It took ages to get AP to install and update - I mean I worked on it for weeks - terrible, unreliable and unfortunately only available internet around. So uninstalling and reinstalling is a absolutely last, last, last option. Designer stops responding too but not this bad. If anyone has any idea why this so bad I'd appreciate some help.
  18. Hi guys, here's a video of me drawing banana in Affinity Photo. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you!
  19. Apart from a couple of my own photos I sourced Unsplash for essential elements.
  20. Hi Affinity team, I just bought affinity Photo, its amazing professional software for photoshop replacement, the price is amazing and the feature is great! But one thing is missing in this software, brush setting is not completely customizable, when it comes to digital drawing, I always use my Photoshop brush pack. But when I imported the brush into Affinity, there's a lot of features missing. Can affinity team make Photoshop brush features imported into affinity brushes? I am really grateful if the Affinity teams can make this happen. Thank you.
  21. Coming from photoshop here..... In this image I added a saturation layer, completely desaturated and I want to paint it back in on the computer hardware. When I press "Q" the mask is just fully red. I cannot actually see my paint marks to be more accurate? How the hell do I see this!?
  22. Pp with Affinity Photo, added lighting and LUT. LUT preview in Adjustment panel is quite slow.
  23. Does APhoto support plugins from Skylum Software? I have tried Photolemur 3 and no joy...
