  1. Due to the market segmentation decisions around the Affinity product line and PhotoPlus products there is no single place to ask a question about both products, so apologies up front for asking about a non-Affinity product here. Hoping some users of this forum have experience with Serif's PhotoPlus line. Two part Question based on my situation – Windows User. As a very happy Affinity Designer Beta user, I know Affinity Photo is coming…I am currently using GIMP which has a steep learning curve I care not to climb because I know Affinity Photo is coming...so how to fill the gap: PhotoPlus X7 is a steal right now…I was thinking it might not only fill the gap until the Affinity Photo Beta, but could be my editor until the the Affinity Photo Stable Release or beyond…should I just get PhotoPlus X7? Thoughts on it? Or is there a totally free photo editor which has a reasonable feature set and good usability that you could recommend to fill the gap until the Affinity Photo Beta later this year? Brak
  2. In Affinity Designer, holding down Option when clicking the "Operations" buttons in the toolbar creates very handy non-destructive boolean effects. When going through the menu, however, the modifier key is ignored. Inside of Affinity Photo, the corresponding toolbar buttons are hidden by default (you need to manually customize your main toolbar for them to even be available). Thus the non-destructive version is incredibly hard to find and kind of obscure to get to. I'd say either the modifier key should work inside the menu as well (which would be logical), or there should be a second set of menu items to do the same thing non-destructively.

    Macro

Hi my name is Gregor, I played with the new focus merge function in the Beta version of Affinity Photo. I'am very happy with the new function. Thank you
  4. Did this one mostly in Affinity. Stitched the two different panorama's, and then focus stacked them manually by erasing the background in the foreground image. Rest of it was achieved in Lightroom/NIK Viveza. DuckPondTreeFocusStacked-Edit by Greg Murray, on Flickr
  5. I have these two photos. On the bottom is a notebook and on top is an image of a painting. How do I make the edge of the painting blend to the notebook page? In other words how do I make it seem as if it's not a straight line. I'm a complete newbie and still trying to get used to this software.
  6. A small clip (video) about the development of a book cover design. Of course, all works were made with Affinity Photo / Designer. Best greetings to Nottingham :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLoYqZOZ3bw
  7. After a long long time with PS I switched to AP now and I love it! This was my first simple work in AP, testing the repair-tools, adding some blur in the background and an objektive filter.

Just a bit of a play with the layer effects panel .
  9. I'm considering retiring Photoshop CS4 in favour of Affinity Photo when it's released for Windows, hence why I'm here, but am curious how far Affinity Photo's tools stretch for digital drawing/painting too? Although I'm not new to image editing, one thing that has recently started to peak my interest is digital drawing/painting. However, as it's something that I haven't paid much attention to before, I am a complete newbie when it comes to that. As an example, here's a video of an artist who used Photoshop for a long time, but recently started using Manga Studio (now called Clip Studio Paint) for drawing due to it's better drawing brushes, etc.. The brushes he seems to use most often are pencils for sketching (5:15 & 10:35), G-pen for inking (12:00) and transparent watercolour for blending/shading (15:42). Here they are in real-life use (Note: Link may or may not be safe for work depending what country you live in). I assume Affinity Photo contains brushes that are capable of producing good results for sketching and blending. However the Manga Studio brushes also seem to have brush stabilisation and the G-pen seems to have a mode to use it as a vector brush. Do the Affinity Photo brushes have stabilisation and a vector brush tool (or are there any plans to introduce them)? A quick search brought up the following posts, which seem to suggest no? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/7617-stabilise-brush-strokes-and-faulty-brush-settings/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10152-brush-stabilizer/
Viel Spaß Ciao Jack Hi, In this Affinity Photo Tutorial, I show you how to create the style of the movie poster Lucifer. Die cinema poster of Lucifer inspired me to try this effect. There is a little bit of neon text effect in it. The main methods are the layer styles. 12. So I tried some simple grid stitching to see if that works properly now in AP. And YEP, worked really well. Barely had to make manual corrections to the stitch. The shooting setup was as below. X1 | Y1 ————— X2 | Y2 https://500px.com/photo/166244289 It's a great way to cover a wider POV without sacrificing distance to object and perspective.

    Document Settings

Would it be at all possible to add in social networking sites in page setup/document setup drop-down menus? As designers, we often work in those mediums and I find myself constantly entering in those dimensions. I think it would be a nice little nod to separate Affinity from the rest of the pack on the desktop design software programs.

  15. There have been a couple of threads recently relating to luminosity masks and the limited flexibility available in AP. In one of those threads csp proposed blending options as a better way to do this which set me thinking about how that could work. I have produced a quick, simple video that explains a way to generate a very flexible luminosity mask using blend options. I hope some of you may find it useful. Thanks to csp for the original idea. http://youtu.be/2NfimjzLdbA
  16. I can't seem to figure out why all my layer masks have a discolored edge. It's hard to describe, but I expect the edges of my mask to just fade the masked layer into the background. Instead they are strangely discolored. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Thanks for the help and for the incredibly good software! See attached image and video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zeqybwbdmmorvh5/Pixel%20Mask%20in%20Affinity%20Photo.mp4?dl=0
  17. As a complete newbie to Affinity Photo (and with no PS experience) I would like to know if anyone can point me to a decent vimeo/youtube/whatever video tutorial on how to prepare a photo with CMYK output for silkscreening (with frequency&angles for each channel, +anything on adding single spot colors to a screenprint. There are a few on youtube for Photoshop but I have not been able to find anything comparable for Affinity Photo. Thanks for any help.
  18. Hi, Soft: Affinity Photo The noise filter effect works in preview but once we valid, the application does not include the effect ... the effect does not work ! Problem on an image in RAW or JPEG format! Have you also experienced this problem? Thank you for your help. ;)
  19. Hello, Software: Affinity Photo I am currently developing my pictures in RAW format. I export them to JPEG and I would like to know how to keep the date and time identical to the original RAW file. Is this possible and if so, how do I do? Thank you for your help. ;)

    Self portrait

Self portrait done in Affinity Photo, with default drawing brushes, a bit of Daub's gouache brushes, and a smattering of fine texture on top. Currently using AP for a big client illustration project—it's been a joy to use.
  21. I need to edit product pictures taken on white background in my photo studio so the white background is 100% white. I usually do this in Photoshop with the levels panel. I use the eyedropper inside the Ps levels panel and click in the picture on the white background. Ps changes the levels automatically so the white background becomes 100% white. This functionality I need in Affinity Photo but the levels panel has no eyedropper. Sliding the levels pointers doesn't give me a pure white background. I need a way to tell where the white pixels are that need to become pure white. Is there another workaround I can use to adapt the pictures from my photo studio so white becomes pure white? Thanks for helping me out.

  24. Hi everyone! I'm very new to Affinity Photo and I'm still getting to grips with how everything works. I have drawn a banner across the top of an image using the Pen tool. How do I fill in the gap between the two lines? I've tried this using the Flood Fill tool, however nothing seems to happen when I do so. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
  25. Hi, When I export an image to .png or .jpeg with all possible combinations (preset/resample/ICC profiles), the exported image is always oversaturated. Is this a bug in Affinity Photo or am I missing an export option that causes this? I do not want to post my image openly on the forum. I have sent this question with images to "support@seriflabs.com" several days ago but have not received a reply or any indication that the mail has been received. Could you please advise where to send you the original image and the export example? Best regards, Patrick
