  1. I am trying to create a digital collage using some of my original photographs. I have had some partial success but have gotten stuck, I think because I don't completely understand how to use masks and work with irregular shapes. I've watched some tutorial videos but they don't answer all my questions. I used Designer to create an outline of the shapes I wanted to use in my collage. I then brought that into Photo. Most of the shapes are rectangles but there are some irregular areas which is where I'm having trouble. I brought in various images using the Place command and clipped them to the rectangles. That worked fine. But at the bottom of the collage there is a dark area that extends into the bottom of the piece. I used a mask to paint away the part of the rectangle that was covering up the dark irregular area inside the design lines I'd created with the pen tool in Designer, but I painted out too much. I then tried switching the paint brush color from black to white but I wasn't able to paint back in the rest of the rectangular image where I had painted out too much. I'm not sure I was on the right layer though I tried working on several different layers, including the mask layer, with the same lack of result. I just wasn't clear what I should be doing to paint back in the rest of the rectangle that now shows as white. Also, on the top of the piece, I want to cut out some areas of the rectangles and create some irregular areas similar to the one at the bottom and fill those with a different image from the image that is filling the rectangle. I don't know how to do that either. I don't know if I have to create a selection in the rectangle and then somehow fill that selection with another image. I don't even know where to start on this part of the collage. I've attached a jpg of my image as well as a Photo file. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate the help. 2. Have just updated to Affinity Photo v1.6 and what a joy it is to edit 360 images - my main interest. So easy to level horizons and set 'North' as well as edit 'live' 360's May I also mention the excellence of the video tutorials. Cheers - Don
  3. Hi all, I am considering to replace the usual suspects (PS, Gimp, Pixelmator, …) with Affinity Photo. During my evaluation, while creating sketches, I noticed that brush strokes begin with a noticeable straight part though I was drawing arcs of lines (see the video attached). It seems that Affinity Photo does something time consuming when the first pointing device event is detected before it continues to process subsequent events. Perhaps it does something like copying the layer's contents for undo? Interestingly, in a video posted regarding the delayed finalisation of vector strokes in AD, if you look closely at the strokes' beginnings, you can observe the same behaviour. My set-up: iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) 3,5 GHz Intel Core i7 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB OS X 10.11.5 (15F34) Wacom Intuos5 touch (driver 6.3.16-10) Cheers, geeknurse Affinity Strokes.mov

    Color Picker Gets Stuck On

I can't seem to figure out the exact reason for this, but when I have my palm resting on the ipad pro screen and I am making a gesture or using a tool somehow the color picker is activated and then it freezes on screen and stays there. Even if I close the document and go back in it is still there in that exact spot. I can still activate the color picker again but that frozen "circle image" of the color picker remains. Also, if I go out of the document and go into another document the "circle image" of the color picker is there too in the same spot. The only way to get rid of it is to quit out of the app and reopen. See attached screen capture.
  5. Hi, I'd like to cutomise the wet edges of my brush on my PC version of Affinity Photo. But as you can see from the screenshot, I don't have the option to do so. I've checked my version of the software and it's 1.6.0.89. I've checked a number of brushes and can't find the custom dialog box that appears in the 1.6 features video at 00.21. Am I missing something? Cheers, Simon

  7. Thinking back about the great paintings of Rothenburg o/d Tauber in the local museum, I got inspired and made my own "painting" of Rothenburg o/d Tauber with Affinity Photo for iPad. I have blended two photos, the one with the bush and the stars was shot with my Canon 80D and the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 a couple of weeks ago, not far from where I live. The one with the prison tower of Rothenburg (Der Strafturm) I had shot during an overcast day with my iPhone7, when I was visting this awesome medieval town in Germany last summer. Because the light was rather flat, I knew it was a good photo to do some blending with. This was a great opportunity for me to learn a lot of things about blending with Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro. Love this app! Best regards, Wetterhoun
  8. Why is the resized jpeg image blurry even when the aspect ratio is preserved going to a smaller size?
  9. Hello! There seems to be a problem with the visualization of Photo's marquee selection. If I open a image and select it all, the selection doesn't always render. I have to pan/zoom-in/out a few times to bring it on screen. Some times it only renders on a corner. This is a bit confusing since I can't tell if a lost my selection or not. Is this something you guys would be interested in fixing? PD: And it some times renders twice as thick on some sides... Thanks

  15. So, this is an image of plant I captured while back... I loved two things about it: First it grew between the cracks of the boulder and second the way the leaves changed the colour. I was not satifisfied with the colors and so tried to retouch it in AP to bring it to life!! I hope you like it Original image with basic adjustments: Final Image from AP:
  16. To recreate bug: 1) Create a new document with all the default settings, but set the document width to 1px wide and 1080px high 2) Set the zoom percentage to 100% - the canvas dissappears and cannot be seen 3) zoom to 200% and the image become visiable but is actually displaying at 100% - this can be prooven by pressing 'print screen' key on keyboard, then pasting that as a new image from clipboard, zooming to the captured area and measuring it with a selection which shows it is 1px wide, even though the zoom was set to 200%. I previously reported this bug as it crashed AP 1.5, thanks for fixing the crash, but now please fix the zoom percentage so that the canvas is correctly shown on screen when zoom is set to 100% Thanks for all the hard work on 1.6 though :-) Rob

    Crash Affinity photo

Hello! Thank you very much for the update! There is a problem after the update is downloaded via AppStore affinity the photo does not start, a welcome screen is displayed and the program closes. There were 6 attempts to open the program, but each time the program was closed. Error reports were sent to the apple. I also attach the report here. What could be the problem? Tatyana. ошибка.rtf

  21. Hi, I have run into a problem with Affinity Photo. It will not save my files. When I try to save a file it says: Failed to save document: (where the document is placed) Save failed because the file could not be created. Please report to Serif. File::OpenUnmanaged fopen E001 [errno = 2] I have attached a screenshot of the message. The thing is, the place it shows where it wants to create/save the file, is not the place I picked for it. Also, the place it reports is a folder that has been moved. But it should not matter, because this is an entirely new file and therefore there should not be a problem with a moved location, because this file has no connection yet to a specific saving spot on my mac. At least that is what I think. I tried to restart the application and just start entirely from scratch, but it has not worked. I also tried to not save and just export it, but that would not work either. Hope you can help me/fix the bug.
  22. Even with rather moderate image sizes, whenever there is an active pixel selection (tested in marching ants mode), the software becomes extremely slow and beachbally, and the entire OS becomes unresponsive. This was not the case pre-1.5. If it is possible to deselect despite the slowdowns and erratic UI, the performance seems to go back to normal. This is using the 1.5.1 AppStore build of Photo on OS X 10.9.5 with the latest system updates, late 2008 silver model MacBook, with 8GB RAM installed after the fact and hard drive replaced with SSD, graphics chipset is the standard NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. Main screen is an external Eizo CG series graphics monitor connected via Display Port, on which Affinity Photo is running. OS is German locale, with Affinity Photo running in English. Activated IME keyboards are German, US English, and the three Japanese ones.
  23. So far I had only used AP for photo editing on my iPad Pro, but finally got around to draw and paint in it yesterday, and I was enthusiastic! This was as close to draw on paper as one can get on a screen, I thought. Better than Procreate even, which I’ve been using for my daily work since I bought the iPad Pro when it first came out - but I was disappointed today and had to give up on it and shared the drawing I had started with Procreate and finished it there. What went wrong? Well, it started to lag. The line was dragging several millimetres behind the tip of Pencil and it made it impossible to draw with quick strokes as is my manner. There is still plenty of space on the iPad, more than 80 gb out of 128 and the drawing wasn’t that large, either. So, anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? I’ll attach a short screen recording which shows what happens. ADFC4E31-3A27-4ED0-97C2-A065AF00998F.MP4 The screen recording didn’t play on my iPad at least so I attach a screenshot, too.
  24. Affinity Photo won't install. I'm getting a .NET 4.7.1 error message. "The framework is not supported on Operating system". Running Windows 10. Thanks.
  25. Hi, i’m using an iPad Pro 12.9” and iOS 11 the most recent version, plus the most recent version of Affinity Photo. i’ve noticed That when I use the Patch Tool or the Healing brush tool do more than just their usual duty and also slightly blur the part of the image I use them to paint over. It kind of kills the detail of the picture. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting that effects this? often times I use the frequency separation filter and when I do, my hope is that the high frequency layer will remain in clear detail, but the Healing brush or and patch Tool just blur everything...
