  3. Hi all, I am used to clip adjustment layers in Photoshop. What I mean by that is putting an adjustment layer in the stack, painting a mask on this adjustment layer and then adding another one clipped to it. I haven't found a way to do that in Affinity. Nesting adjustment layers doesn't work: the nested layer has no effect. Is there an "Affinity" way to do the same thing? Thanks for your help

  5. Hi Affinity, While I love the way OpenType features are handled much better than in Adobe, I really cannot navigate font superfamilies. If you have any family that has different weight groups then navigating through the font list is very difficult. Can you guys please fix the font organization. It really slows down my work otherwise. I am showing screenshots for one particular font family. I have licensed countless superfamilies and I really don't like working with them in Affinity products for this reason.
  6. I am trying once more to get to grips with Affinity Photo and have a question about metadata. How can I view the metadata of a photograph and to add keywords?
  7. Hi Affinity, As a member of the Affinity converted with Designer and Publisher, I have used Affinity software for my digital agency and there are presentations of mine in the exec offices of some global automakers. This work used to be done with InDesign but I switched over to Designer two years ago and used multipage artboards to work on my projects. When Publisher Beta came out I was on cloud nine, and then when StudioLink came out I really needed psychotherapy to cure my OCD with Publisher. Such an amazing, groundbreaking workflow. I also took a very deep dive on Photo, the latest store version and also the beta. I have a collection of thousands of Photoshop files and many of them opened up flawlessly. I also love the refined UI. And now rotating brushes are amazing! I seriously don’t know why Photoshop hasn’t done that yet, but consider that it took them many years to enable CMD-Z. You guys had live preview first but they soon adopted that, so it is clear they are watching what you are doing. I would like to come over 100% to Affinity but I have several issues that prevent me from doing so. Also, I do realize that this is a monumental task - Photoshop really is Adobe’s flagship, more so than any of their products. It was easy to switch over to Designer from Illustrator, really easy even with features missing (perspective warp please! - although doing that in StudioLink). Right now I am adept enough at Photo as and use it within a StudioLink context but not standalone and here’s what’s preventing me: Smart Objects. Before I begin, I know Adobe is never going to let you in on Smart Objects. PSD documents that include them will open up with these layers rasterized. But let’s consider that your embedded documents are pretty much there. I can add a Photo or Designer file to Photo or Designer or Publisher and I can edit the document just as I would a smart object, and see live updating on the master document - which is ahead of Photoshop in that regard. Also if it’s a Designer file in Photo I can edit in Designer without leaving Publisher or Photo.) In Photoshop you can only edit a vector with Illustrator). Then with the embedded document I can add a few live filters such as Distort>Perspective - which is a favorite in working in a mockup scenario. As a live filter I can go back and change the settings. I can also add some live blurs and a few other things. Sadly, the other Distort live filters don’t work as they have no effect on the embedded object. If you apply a non-live filter then the embedded document rasterizes, and then this gets destructive especially when placing a vector in a Photo document. I don’t mind converting my Photoshop PSB files (smart object files) to PSD then placing as embedded documents. This way I can have my entire core design and logo files standardized as Affinity vector and raster files, but the inability to do pinching and liquifying and other types of warping and shading stops me from doing this. Also there is no way to take a group of layers in Photo and convert easily to an embedded document. I really love how this works in Photoshop. It’s essential to my work, and this is the main thing keeps me on Photoshop. Hopefully Affinity can continue development here. Brushes. While I was praising brushes in Photo there is one simply itsy bitsy thing that is absolutely essential to my work. I need the brushes labeled with their actual names, as they are done in Photoshop. Photoshop has brush flyout panels - if you extend the panels. I have over two thousand brushes and it’s just too difficult to know what’s what in Photo. Even if there are groups, I can’t tell what the individual brushes are if there are two many. I can hover over the brush and then see if I’ve selected the correct one - this works well if you have a few brushes but not if you have so so many. LUTs. I love the live presets on LUTs. But honestly it is a chore to import them as presets. Also it takes too long to load the adjust layer presets. Photoshop allows you to add all the LUT files to the programs preset folder. Restart photoshop and they are all there. Pattern fills. Oh pattern fills. I keep reading in the forum that this is a badly needed feature and so I am throwing myself into this group. Yes I can work around this and have done so… but why? It’s so easy in Photoshop and I have a library of so many .pat files that I would love to use in Photo, just as I have converted my brushes, color files (with online converters) and gradients. Blend Options. I love your layer blend options UI - really easier to use than Photoshop. But shouldn’t it be part of Layer Effects? I want to add color fills for instance and select the blend options right then and there, so I can see what I’m doing as I can in Photoshop. Feathered masks. If I want to feather a mask in Photoshop I simply go to the mask properties and then adjust the feathering. In Photo I can’t feather a mask that’s been applied to an adjustment effect directly. I have to move the mask to a layer above, then apply a live filter, and then move the mask and its filter under the adjustment effect. I have to do these things all the time and this seems oddly cumbersome.
  8. Does Affinity Photo or Designer have a Monotone / Duotone / Tripletone to create this sort of effect: http://www.adweek.com/files/imagecache/node-detail/news_article/spotify-side-hed-2016.png Referring to the headshot image. Thanks!
  9. Hello people. I've noticed I can't import int Affinity Designer more than 15 libraries (*.afbrushes) : the sofware displays the message "X brushes were succesfully imported" but I can't see them anywhere. I've tried some stuff like undock brushes's window, etc I'm disapointed because : I've paid thoses brushes (DAUB) Affinity Photo can import more than 15 brushes like a charm. Keep it up, you're doing a fabulous work.
  10. Very glad to see that the new tutorials have subtitles for the languages which the Affinity site supports. This will save me time when I explain to my colleagues in photo club of the Volkshochschule Rheinfelden how I develop and edit my photos in Affinity Photo. With regard to the tutorial HDR from one exposure (https://affinity.serif.com/de/tutorials/photo/desktop/video/341759551) I have found some mistake that will wreak much confusion: 00:44 Wir belassen das dabei 00:47 denn wir wir die Ausgangs-Farbkurve anwenden -> denn wenn wir die Ausgangs-Farbkurve anwenden 00:51 werden unsere Werte außerhalb der Grenzen liegen. -> werden die außerhalb der Grenzen liegenden Werte abgeschnitten. One could consider using the subjunctive here, i. e., denn wendeten wir die Ausgangs-Farbkurve an, würden die außerhalb der Grenzen liegenden Werte abgeschnitten. At any rate, as it stands, the text makes no mention of the fate of out-of-bounds values, namely, that they will be clipped. Regarding the translation of to clip as clippen, I have the feeling that one says in German, that highlight details clippen, but not that they geclippt werden (are clipped), i. e., that clippen is intransitive and has no passive voice, even though the past participle, geclippt, can be used adjectivally, e. g. when speaking of geclippte Highlight-Details. That is why I used abgeschnitten, not geclippt. 02:12 und wir können sie kolorieren. I am puzzled about the use of kolorieren. I have not encountered kolorieren as a translation of to tone map. Linguee.de seems to imply that tone mapping is usually translated with das Tone Mapping, and gives many examples where the verb to tone map is rendered as to do or to perform a tone mapping. Actually, though, developing to a 32-bit space means, more generally, that out-of-bounds values are retained and remain available for all the things that one can do to the output of the Develop persona, including but not limited to tone mapping. I suggest, und bleiben für die Verarbeitung nach der Entwicklung der Roh-Datei erhalten -> and remain available for processing after developing the RAW file. This, of course, means that tone mapping, or whatever it is being called in German in Affinity Photo, is one such "thing."
  11. Hi, I'm Nekodificador, visual artist and content creator from Spain. I have a Youtube channel where I show my workflows, secrets and teach retouching and compositing throught tutorials. I fell in love with Affinity Photo but when I wanted to change from Photoshop it took me a while to learn it, so I did a video where I show how to do a few things in Photoshop and how to "translate" them into Affinity Photo. It is in spanish, but I hope it will be useful for everyone. Btw, it seem like we have new brothers in our community after this video. Oops hahah
  12. Is Affinity Photo better than Photoshop? Which should you buy? Which should you use? Can Affinity Photo dethrone Adobe Photoshop? Here is my take on this. 13. Hi guys, I've bought the new Canon M50 mirrorless but Canon's new .CR3 RAW file format isn't yet supported by your raw engine. Do you have any plans to add it soon or will I have to do a tedious workaround for the foreseeable future? It's the first time in the eight months since I've joined the Affinity revolution that I've missed Photoshop - Adobe RAW added it somewhere in April already.
  14. Are these already on the list to be added (I didn't see them in the roadmap)? If not, please consider this a request. The use case for the file proxy is pretty narrow (such as when I'm working directly on a source image and not on the afphoto encapsulation of it) but the cmd-click path menu I find myself missing on a daily basis since I'm using the filesystem as my DAM right now and jumping around from folder to folder is painful or requires keeping multiple finder windows open for context (per open tab) rather than being able to directly jump to the location in question. Thank you!
  15. Is there a way to convert a Pen Tool path you make into a selection. There is a selection from layer I can do, but I would like to just convert the path into a selection, without having to create extra layers.
  16. I just purchased Affinity Photo and can't wait to ditch my subscription to Adobe CC2018. However, I mostly work with text and am having trouble finding tutorials to answer my questions. First up: how do I create a stroke around text to make the font fatter? Thanks
  17. Hi All, **For some reason the forum won't let me add a second image, I will clear cookies etc and try again** Currently testing Affinity Photo (Mac) via a ten day trial, just posting some queries on these forums before the trial expires, thanks for any help offered. Not sure if the screenshot shows it, but you can see little defects (like dark smudges) where Affinity has stitched images together. And when converting to black and white, the image looks very muddy, like there is no detail in the shadows of the mountain. When I do it in Lightroom, I have none of these issues and, while the image does require editing, out of the box it looks better and requires less work. I also disabled the option to auto apply changes in Lightroom, so that it would not auto adjust the image exposure settings. I hope the attached images shows what I have stated above. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks Iain
  18. Hi, On Windows, selection tools can certainly be improved. The selection brush tool is relatively useless without a tolerance factor. It does not discriminate between very different pixels (hue, saturation, luminosity) ; I can achieve a kind of selection with the flood select tool but it needs many many many mouse/pen clicks, and with a tolerance value between 1 (!) and 14... otherwise, everything is selected. An editing photo app without effective selection tools is kind of a tree without branches. Selection is a quite basic process in (almost) any workflow. I do not know how the selection tools function in Mac but I have never succeeded to rapidly make an accurate selection. Would it not be possible to add a tolerance value for the selection brush tool? And make the Flood select tool more functional ? I also find that the refine “tool” is difficult to set and often my selection is worst after using it I simply would like to stress we need the best possible tools so we all can make effective complex selection(s). Cheers, P.
  19. Hi, I am currently trying to learn Affinity Photo and where everything is etc. for university and I have a logo which is bad quality as you can see from the first image and I am basically wanting to smooth the edges. The second image is to emphasise the jaggedness. What is the best tool to use in Affinity Photo to make it have smooth edges? Thanks so much. Help is much appreciated.
  20. It was very easy to preserve the transparency of a layer in PSD. But in Affinity Photo, I cannot figure it out. I have a semi transparent layer with black art in it in varying degrees of transparency. I want to fill the layer but preserve the transparency in oder to change the colour of the art. Cannot figure that out. Thought it would be very simple. Thanks for your help. Rob
  21. Hi, I'd like to make a request to link the file rather than embedding the file when we use the Place Image tool in Affinity Photo. The function exists in Publisher and it'd be great if this could be implemented in Affinity Photo too. When working with composites, there are times when some originals still need to be editable. When we embed the original, it makes the filesize very bloated. A smaller file size would make it more efficient to work with composites so it'd be much appreciated please Thanks
  22. Also I really want to be able to feather masks (as I am able to in Photoshop's mask properties). Right now I can apply a Gaussian live filter to the mask but it just doesn't create the same effect I'm after. Please take a look at this video - I want to be able to do this exactly. What ends up happening is that I end up vignetting the whole image.
  23. As a longtime Photoshop user coming into Affinity Photo for pro work I wanted to suggest improvement for Photo's curve adjustment tool. Curves works great but I think the picker tool needs to be able to instantly pick on the curves graph as I click on areas in the picture. Right now I can add points but I have to wiggle left or right in order for the point to be added, and then I might accidentally pull the curve up or down slightly when all I wanted to do was to select a point. Use case for this is that I might want to select all the color areas in a face and protect those ranges. Or select a few area in a landscape and pull all those areas up and down. I mention this because I can easily and quickly do this in Photoshop but this is one of those things where I really struggle with in Photo. However I have an idea for making curves better in Photo than Photoshop. What if I could lasso or shift-select a given range of points I have made in curves? How amazing would that be. Then I can pull a select group of points up or down and this becomes quite powerful. Think of this like the ability to move a selected group of vector points in Designer. You can't do this in Photoshop. Perhaps you can just pull up the points or stretch the selection - I'm referring to all that you can do in Designer with selected vector points.
