In another thread I produced some artwork with some text in an A3 document. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/163212-art-and-a-poem-using-language-independent-glyphs/&do=findComment&comment=933597 Later, I produced a slightly different version with CMYK colour and 3 mm bleed areas all around. I uploaded it to an online virtual print house and I have received some prints on 350 gsm paper, the colours going right to the edges. I am now trying to produce an A5 version. To do this I made a copy of the .afdesign file and, still at A3 size, in the copy I gradually increased the text size from 11 point to 24 point, by a combination of increasing the point size of the text, decreasing the inter-line spacing and moving the text box a bit up and a bit left. This done so that with an A5 version that the text will be large ebough to read. I then saved that A3 large lettering file. I then made a copy of that .afdesign file and then, using File Document Setup... scaled the copy to A5. Yes, the text and the language-independent symbols go to 12 point. However, it seems that the scaling is about the point (0, 0) so the black now only goes to -1.5 mm rather than -3 mm. That seems perfectly logical, but it does mean that the A5 PDF document only has black across half of the bleed area. Ah, I am wondering if I can add black rectangles into the bleed area. That might be straightforward down the left side, but along the upper edge and lower edge there are angles and at the lower edge several colours. So, I might be able to fix it that way. But is there a simpler method please? William

In my previous companies I worked a lot with MS Visio. It would be possible to have similar features in AD? Maybe a new category named Stencils in order to be different from Assets category. In this new Stencils category to have Flow Chart symbols sub-category, Diagrams, Furniture, Garden, and so on. Also, the capabilities to import Visio stencils or even SmartDraw would be great! This new feature will extend the AD capabilities in combination with already implemented features. I woull be agreed to pay a fee for the major updates for all Affinity`s software in order to have a better product. I know that is a a lot of work to do by the developers to implement new features. Sometimes, eventhough Spine is selected as Batch builder, no spine.json file is created when exporting slices. I have to watch more closely when exactly this happens, but I'm pretty sure this is what happens: - Have a file, create slices, select Spine batch export and export the slices (spine.json gets created just fine) - Keep Affinity open and start creating a new file, create slices and go to the slices tab in the export persona: now 'Spine' is still selected as batch exporter, but it doesn't use this batch exporter when exporting the slices. It only seems to work if we manually set/refresh the batch export selection by moving to another setting in the dropdown first and than re-select Spine in the dropdown again. So it looks like the batch export method is set to 'none' when creating a new file, but the UI for it wasn't updated, so it still shows 'Spine' while in reality it's set to 'none'. This is obviously confusing and prone to errors.

I was inspired by a scientific podcast which does series on particular themes. This time about 'Are human beings animals' where in particular an episode about animal rights and lawyers for animals was very interesting. And had a few ideas in my head to tell a story with 3 colors and one image:

Is there a way in Designer that, with or without converting to curves, I can take text and transform it so that one side is longer than another, giving it a trapezoidal shape? Alternately, can I take my curves or text and distort ir arbitrarily by moving a corner, similar to Photoshop's "distort" transform function. Basically, I just need to have a block of text that is larger on one end and gets smaller at the other end...without changing the font of every single character one at a time to gradually increasing (or decreasing) size. I can find out to resize it, rotate it, skew it, but no way to stretch it like that. Examples from Photoshop:

Hello Affinity community I would like to share the first chapter of a new comic I've been working on for a Webtoon contest. Most of the "tracing" and coloring was done in Affinity Designer. I've just finished what ended up being my most detailed Designer piece and thought it would be worth sharing here. Everything in this scene is vector, including the gas giant, with liberal use of blurs and other layer effects. While I could have completed this work purely in Designer, I opted instead to export various layers into Photos for final processing. Colours were adjusted, some subtle depth of field and grain added and a few other touches. If anyone is interested, I posted my work-in-progress on Twitter.

Hello. I was simply curious, when is the next build update? Will there be a version 2?

I have this software since february 2021, paid €83 and it never worked! Hope someone could help. I tryed everything but it keeps closing. I also don't have any of the software list that don't work with designer. I have years of experience in graphic design in the areas of marketing and advertising. Doing full illustrations like this isn't something I've done since art school, 20+ years ago. It is very satisfying.

Hello all! After this forums has helped me so much, I finally created an account because I can't seem to find an answer to my question online, but it seems like something that would be implemented. Is there a way for me to slope a node with a keyboard shortcut? I do a lot of work with the pen tool and I've always thought that having to go back to the previous node I created, just to click it and go make a new one seems tedious and takes up a lot of time while doing a large project. I didn't even know it was called "slope" until I tried looking in the help menu. I've included screenshots of what I'm trying to do to a node with a shortcut incase I didn't explain it correctly.

Hello, I draw cartoons as a hobby. Over time I've developed a couple of templates that I use to help get me started. I named them "Generic" just to say that I've taken out all of the personal layers that I normally include. I hope you find them helpful. A 100% vector yin and yang like graphical image of two fish, created entirely in Affinity Designer, that depicts both separation and attachment.

When I attempt to cut out or make a copy of a selection from a pixel layer, the selection is ignored and the entire layer gets copied/cut. The problem persists with all selection tools and with both keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+x, ctrl+c, ctrl+v) and clicking on the "Cut"/"Copy" and "Paste" options from the File menu. The problem is present in Photo as well as in Designer's pixel persona. The only workaround is to copy the layer, make the selection, invert the selection and erase the parts that are not needed. Very frustrating. Is there any way to fix this?

MODERATORS Just posting this to inform you about some annoying features of infinity designer which should be removed. 1) Art board Layer working with art board is very difficult due to its art board layer . I think affinity layers working ways should be same as adobe illustrator. When we remove art board layers no shapes shows outside of art board area . 2) EPS File One of main source file which clients demands and also most of stock sites used this as source file , but affinity EPS is very different from other . ( No layer ) ( Text conversation into curves ) ( No grouping ) 3) No Snapping While Cursor tool I feel no snapping while adding nodes to a shape. Difficult when putting nodes with perfect distance. 4) Pen Tool No strokes showing when using pen tool , I storokes should be visible when working with pen tool. 5) empty Gap Issue While working or in exported files , we see a gap between perfectly snapped shape , this is one of big issue I think . I will some more Annoying Features of designer very soon , so affinity should adjust these

New artwork – a last minute entry for @thetuesdaycollective’s themed challenge of “Pink & Red” over on Instagram. I’ve been getting bogged down in obsessively detailed artwork recently, and so I set myself a challenge of creating a series of pieces in the style of my favourite and most inspirational artists. The idea is to learn how to drastically simplify my work, and learn a wealth of tips and tricks along the way. This piece is in the style of the amazing Mads Berg (if you don’t know his work, you should DEFINITELY check it out), and it’s been really enjoyable to create, and a brilliant learning experience. For example, that lei – at one time I would have felt compelled to create a huge, bushy garland of flowers, each one different, and every single petal individually crafted in vector. It would have taken weeks, I would have been raging throughout, and feeling like I was involved in some sort of technical exercise, rather than feeling the joy of creativity. Fine detail will always have a place in my work, but Mads has taught me that less is definitely more! Anyway, hope you like it!

One excellent feature from Pageplus and most good word processors is the ability to copy and paste formats to text on the screen. This would bypass the need to create a text style for each alteration. It might also be a quick way to create new text styles for your documents. It would be a boon to publisher and designer.

Hi, I've been using Affinity Designer for awhile now, and just today it has started putting a black background on any text I create (both frame tool and artistic). I go to the character palette, and the background color is set, but it is not black. The frame background is black ,and there is no way to change this. I tried relaunching Designer, and it is still happening. If I convert the text to curves, I get the text object and another object that is a black box. What can I do to stop this from happening?? This turtle is made with Affinity Designer. I've really just recently started to appreciate the way in which Affinity blends raster and vector. That's at least one thing that makes it unique, and it's not just uniqueness for the sake of being different.

I thought there should be a special topic for all our first (or very early) attempts with affinity Design, so please feel free to post your "firstborn" designs here. Here's what I recall being the first thing I did with Affinity Design. When I made this, Affinity was still in its youth with Affinity Publisher not yet in existence. Well. Here it is: So here it is. Not awfully detailed or complex, but I think it's still nice. What was your first Design like?

I have just checked my Affinity account and my purchase of Affinity photo and Designer do not appear in that account. I am in the process of carrying out a clean install onto a new MacBook but can only find Affinity publisher within the account. How can I access these files for reinstallation. Is this the quickest method of contacting support.

I have recently started using Affinty Designer and found that few basic features were missing which all the other professional Vector Editing Software have. Split Point ( This feature allows to break the point into Two separate points ) Minus/Plus or remove/add node ( Feature in Pen Tool to add or remove a node without limiting to shift to different tools ) Break Apart or Release Compound Path ( After Separating a shape with subtract front from back I need to be able to use both separations as different object rather than one single unit ) Create Clipping Mask or Power Clip option in Context Menu and Also Ctrl/Command + Drag object over other object for Quick Power Clipping(This feature is required for the reason of better efficiency ) Actions or Automation ( This Feature is in Illustrator which allows pre-recorded actions to take complex or rather bulk part of the work be smoother and FASTER ) Shape Builder Tool ( This Tool makes it easier for ratio base designing ) ( This is specifically required for professional designers ) Hovering Thumbnail along side the eyedropper tool with Color information (Eg : ) ( It is much need feature if you use it ) Convert to Curves should be included in Text Drop Down Menu.
