  1. I'm going to ask this, though to be fair, I'm expecting a 'no-can-do'. The above is a row of shapes (created via the rectangle tool). I've not booleaned them (Layer > Geometry > Add, say), so they are still very separate objects. They're not even grouped. Question: Can I do the same with a row of text frames? (Indesign does it) I have tried simply dragging the gradient tool over some text frames and it applied it to the text. So... will it do the fill instead? Just out of interest - I've learned giving text frame objects fills gets a no vote. Instead, one has to "decorate the text" to look like a fill (Buried under Text > show paragraph > decorations). So 2nd question: If I'd used text decorations to create the look of a fill, could the text decoration be graduated as the above? ------------------- btw, though I'm one for keeping files simple and clean, with one object where others use three, this is one of those exceptions that proves my rule. So I'm expecting to remove all the fills I have on the text frames, and to draw rectangles that the text frames sit over. So 50 objects where I currently have 25. (It may well not matter computationally, but it sure as heck does when you come to edit it. The more complex the file, the more hard work it is to edit)
  2. When I alt-drag an object to duplicate and move it in one seamless action, the smart guides don't kick in. When I just drag (without touching the keyboard) they're behaving as I expect. Is there a setting I've not found for this? (Mac, can you alt-drag on a PC?)
  3. I'm hoping to clarify what the difference is between using: Text > Text Styles > Save Text Styles As default and ( Edit > Defaults > Synchronise with Selection + Edit > Defaults > Save ) …when managing Text Style defaults. True/false: 1) is application defaults, and 2) is document defaults? True/false: the moment a user creates Text Styles, they are creating 2) anyway, wthout touching Text > Text Styles > Save Text Styles As default? Thank you
  4. Publisher 1.10.4.1198, Windows 10 I create a table and click on a column header (say A). This highlights all the cells in the column. From the context bar and before entering anything in the cells I can set text justification, borders, cell colour, etc. for the selected cells. What I can't do is change the font or font size for the selected cells. These remain at Arial, 12pt. This behaviour is different to that of a spreadsheet and of Serif's PagePlus. What am I doing wrong?
  5. Hi, When im printing a document I made, it prints these weird boxes around curves with dropshadows. This also happens to ordinary .EPS and .PNG logos. The box is not visible without a background color printed on ordinary white paper. I've attached a picture taken with my phone of a test document I printed. I use a mac, and the printer is a Xerox WorkCentre 7830 v1 Multifunction System PS. The problem don't appear when I export to PDF and print thru adobe acrobat. But when I do this, the colors are super ugly and pale. Cant understand why the built in printing option produces a different color profile...
  6. These are Affinity SVG parsing/interpretation bugs, since according to the SVG spec, a style attribute prevails ... In Affinity however the above defined SVG rectangle will be always shown in aliceblue instead of beige, since the precedence over the fill attribute never takes place! - This probably affects all Affinity platform versions! See related and for more informations this thread here ...
  7. Hello, I found a bug when importing PDF files which were previously exported from Affinity Publisher. This bug modifies the text written in a PDF file where the text is written in "Small Caps" (FontImportBug.pdfFontImportBug.pdf page 1). After exporting, the text is correctly shown in common PDF viewers such as Acrobat or FireFox (page 2-3). However, as soon as I import the PDF file into Publisher using "Document->Add Pages from File" all small letters are a mess (page 4-5). Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks in advance Painting Paul
  8. Hello, I opended a IDML from ID CS6 with a business card. When I wanted to increase the line-height I realized that it is not working. Line-height simply stays a imported. AP is working normally. On a new document I can edit everything as usual. But in a new document where I pasted the IDML textbox it is the same issue – not working. See the attached document. line-height-IDML.afpub
  9. Dear Serif, My name in Andrea and I'm an Italian postgraduate in law. I have a huge problem when trying to export the affinity publisher file I'm working on, so that I kindly ask for your help. Hardware and software Preliminary information about the hardware and software I'm using: - macOS Monterey 12.3.1 - MacBook Pro 13", 2017, Touch Bar, intel Core i7, 16GB 2133 2133 MHz LPDDR3, 2TB, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 1536 MB - Affinity Publisher 1.10.5 (I've bought affinity publisher, designer, and photo) - Affinity publisher settings -> see the attached image Affinity publisher document affected by the problem I'm working on an affinity publisher document, about 47MB, made up of 37 pages. Almost all the document is made up of text, schematizations and mind maps. Some pages are very big in term of absolute dimensions of the canvas (even though the pages are not so big in terms of MB; as I've just said the whole document is about 47mb). The document is not meant for printing but for digital consultation, lessons and webinars, virtual dashboards, etc. If somebody from affinity can help me, I can send him privately the document (I don't want to share the document here publicly, since I have been working on it since almost a year, is stilla work in progress that needs a few more months of work, and it will be a protected document and an important work tool in my field. It's my biggest work up to now). What's the problem When I try to export the document in pdf, it appears me a generic error that tells me that the exportation was unsuccessful (and the pop-up doesn't tell me what's the problem). To be more precise I made various attempts, selecting, in the export settings, different pdf formats: - PDF (digital - small size) -> unsuccessful - PDF (digital - high quality) -> unsuccessful - PDF (for export) -> unsuccessful - PDF (for flatten) -> unsuccessful - PDF/X-4 -> successful When I successfully exported my file to pdf/X-4 I felt really relieved (since before I was a bit panicking). But.. as soon as I opened the exported pdf I saw that the exported pdf doesn't include bookmarks and hyperlinks (and then I started panicking again, since my affinity publisher files contains more that 400 hyperlinks, so that hyperlinks are a huge part of my work, and I cannot do without them). So, aware that the problem might be bookmarks and hyperlinks, I tried to export my file in PDF (digital - high quality), deselecting hyperlinks and bookmarks in export settings, and I managed to export my file successfully (but without hyperlinks and bookmarks) Verified that the problem are hyperlinks and bookmarks, unfortunately I really can't do without the more than 400 hyperlinks I made, since those hyperlinks are an essential feature of my document. I've checked for errors before exporting the file, but there are no errors related to hyperlinks, as you can see in the attached file (the only red flag in the screenshot below is the first line that tells me to refresh the table of contents.. and so I've refreshed it before exporting). I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. By the way, if advanced support requires me to pay something, I would totally pay for it. I just want to solve a situation that scares me (it would be impossibile for me, every single time I export a new version of my work - which will occur pretty frequently in the future, since laws and judgments are continuously evolving - having to export my file without hyperlinks and having to insert manually those hyperlinks with some sort of pdf viewer. If would require me hours and hours of work every time I need to publish an updated version of my file..) Thank you very much Andrea
  10. Is there any way to increase the size of the glyphs being viewed in the glyph browser? I attach a screen dump of the Gabriola font, and it is totally unreadable
  11. Hi Two questions: 1) Setting up a document wide default style, workflow... BTW: I'm really confident with text styles. Yet I'm bumping up against the logic in Affinity Publisher. My usual workflow in InDesign: Create new document Style a piece of text to give me font style, size and leading (line spacing) In paragraph styles panel - "[Basic Paragraph]" is highlighted by default. Right-click > "Redefine Basic Paragraph". Job done - start laying-out the document and creating styles. In those 3 moves, I've set up a file with a default *document* text style. (InDesign's "[Basic paragraph]" is not delete-able by accident, that's what the square brackets indicate so it's a safe place to set these 'document defaults'). Can anyone give me a similar numbered step-by-step list for how I achieve the same in Publisher, please? ----------- 2) No Style, keh?! Let's be really clear - > the so-called "No style" HAS a style. It's Arial 12pt Regular (12.4pt). That's ....a style... What is "No style" that's in Arial Regular 12pt style for, please? What's it's purpose, why is it there - what is it for?
  12. I am new to Affinity Publisher and have created a calendar layout master which I use a data merge from Excel to produce a photo calendar blank where I can choose year and language. I would like to be able to add background colours to the cells for Saturdays and Sundays. Can this be done directly in Affinity Publisher or can it be passed to Affinity Publisher from the Excel data merge file? Each month is a vertical list of days starting at 1st of the month so Saturdays and Sundays are different for each month and year.
  13. A few more issues per year going forward as the parent company folded other magazines into Skin Art and Tattoo Revue. Here's the latest issue. Never at a loss for interesting stories and amazing artwork by these super talented tattoo artists.
  14. Something I'd absolutely love is the ability to input Hover Text into my digital PDF/Online-only pieces. The ability to click on an image and have the artist/photographer pop up, the ability to click on a word and have it's definition pop up and so forth would be invaluable to me as someone who works primarily with publishing online. Would others find this as useful as me?
  15. A really useful feature that would be a boon in a desktop publishing app it the ability to link document files from word processing applications to text frames in the publishing app. This may be a difficult thing to implement due to the many formats out there but certain word processing applications could be supported, as could text file editors. Also supporting RTF and TXT formats would be quite helpful. The Open Document format would be one to support, also Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Corel WordPerfect. Then we could edit the text in the word processing package of our choice and save it. When we load Affinty Publisher our document could then go about linking and loading each of the files from the save text files. A sort of text version of the way images can be linked. It would be an interesting feature to implement which could increase the DTP packages versatility no-end. Maybe after adding a story editor into Publisher we could link the files there aa well.
  17. In an Newspaper, I allways have the Date and Page Number in the title (left Page up right, right page up left for the date, Page Number on the other corner) Is there a way, to change it just on the first page, and it changes on all the additional Pages automatically?
  18. Publisher 1.10.4 on Windows 10 and 11 crashes when I select an inserted image and attempt any action on it such as moving it or clicking on the 'float with text' icon. Is there a crash report somewhere in the system? Where would it be located? Would it help to change the persona to Photo? Will this bug be fixed very soon?
  19. Hello, unfortunately I cannot export files that include images for some reason. In the past it worked but suddenly it it raises "An error occurred while exporting to:...". If I place the image outside of the document or delete it entirely, it works flawlessly. I am using Mac (2018, OS Monterey) Affinity Publisher is updated to the latest available version. I am using the default PDF export settings (PDF for print). What can I do? Thanks!

  23. First Hardcover I'm working with in Publisher. What's the best way to go about making Endsheets? "The endsheet at the front of the book with printing across the spread is called “F2-F3”. If the back side of the front endsheet also has printing this spread is called “F4-F1”. On the back of the front endsheet panel F1 plus 3/16 inches of F4 will be covered with glue. The endsheet at the back of the book with printing across the spread is called “B2-B3”. If the front side of the back endsheet also has printing this spread is called “B4-B1”. On the front of the back endsheet panel B4 plus 3/16 inches of B1 will be covered with glue. The 3/16 inch glue strip area is used to attach the interior pages to the cover."
  24. so far, neither Google, nor this forum tells me anything about how to PRESERVE and KEEP a text style once created in Publisher. Creating a chapter book, re-creating the same styles for each book chapter gets old. What am I missing? Where's the forum post on this? What's it's called? I don't think AP supports stylesheets. Am I wrong? Almost all online text support is about creating styles. So far I see nothing on KEEPING A STYLE.
