  1. Hi all, I'm new to the forum. This is my first real project with affinity designer. Designer is very pleasant to use. Very artistic. I will never come back to Illustrator again.
  2. Hi, I required Affinity Designer in november, so please bare with me. I saw Wonderwomen, a car and a plane made by really, really great artists. I have no intention to get that good, but to get better I need to share my work for getting suggestion and tips. I am at kindergarten level. Starting out with 2 courses at Udemy, watched dozens of youtube tutorials, and glad I got it so far. The fur on the head is kind of okay, the body does not really fit. thearms stick out too much, shadowing is pretty hard. THe eye is jpg, I was unsuccesfull in following 'art with Flo' . I can not get the mouth blend better, like the illustration from Deema Egerov. (I need other artists work trying to recreate to develop myself.) So if anyone has some time to get me some tips, I love to hear from you. Many thanks, Yolanda monster1F.afdesign
  3. Hello, Just answer my post title, and another question: Can i add pages for manga creation in affinity designer? I know Photoshop CC is the best option, but i hate subscriptions, is Affinity Designer worth it? Thanks anyway, - Emanuel Messias, R.d.S.
  4. Hi, For my fourth try in AD I wanted to illustrate at Omega Speedmaster watch. Think it worked out well :-). Still a few glitches here and there :-( The hardest to figure out how to make was the wristband with the try to make it look woven. I did it with a costume made brush I made. I am still amazed how well AD performs. Great to get under the skin of the software. I set my self these challenges (HTC Phone, Nexus phone, Bulb and this) so that I would be sure to really learn to use AD, not just fooling around. Compared to how I usually does these illustrations Photoshop (Vector Layers), then AD is by far the easiest. Please enjoy! If anybody is interested I can upload the original AD file. UPDATE! I have added the AD original file also now. Br, Philip Omega.afdesign
  5. Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes. 6. I have a object that changes from grey to some greenish color cast when I apply a 3D fx. All colors within the 3D window have zero color, though I can visually correct by changing the light source color but that's less than accurate. Thoughts?
  7. Is there a hexagon tool? I can find pentagon, but I need a hexagon
  8. I'm running into a weird problem: I created a style from a shape with a brush stroke set at 8px. When I apply the style to other shapes, however, the stroke width is random, sometimes it's 6.1 px, sometimes 4.2. In my mind it should ALWAYS be the same width. what gives?
  9. From an observation around forty years ago in northern Manitoba.
  10. I have some text that I snapped to an isometric grid. Now I want to make that text horizontal again. How do I do that? I can't seem to get it off the isometric grid even if I create a flat grid. Win 7, Aff Designer 1.8.5.703
  11. Is there a flat colour comic book effect please? Some years ago, with the version of DrawPlus or PhotoPlus that I had there was a comic book effect that could be used to process a photograph into a number of flat colour areas. I remember trying it out with a print screen image from Google street view of the town square of Chalons-en-Champagne, France. The number of flat colour areas used was a user choice. It worked well. I have in mind using such a process so as to produce flat area colour artwork from a photograph and to then use that artwork to produce a glyph for a colour font, so flat areas of colour are what I need. I suspect that if it is available it will be somewhere within Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo. I have bought licences for both but have, thus far, only used Designer a little and Photo almost not at all. William
  12. I was in need of lines with dots and triangles for a project. I started creating a few lines and then I encountered a whole bunch of problems with repeating patterns in the Texture Intensity Brushes in the Designer Persona. My triangles got squished, my squares became rectangles and I went into full pitbull mode and did not sleep until I understood what went wrong. These are my work arounds if you’re struggling with squished or otherwise deformed repeating patterns: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/101575-textured-intensity-brushes-and-body-repeat/&tab=comments#comment-545105. With the work arounds in mind I’ve created a set of brushes with repeating patterns that hardly show any deformation*. I was on a roll, so I created 114 in 9 families. I won’t use all, so feel free to use them. They're nice for stamps and borders and such. Enjoy! *) When using these brushes on a tightly curving curve or a sharp corner they of course do deform. Experiment with the brush setting for Corners to find the best solution for your project. The brushes all contain a centred line (in 3 widths, S, M and L) and repeating shapes and stripes above or above and below. The brushes with stuff above the line, but not under are therefore not vertically centred on the stroke. In the stripey families I added 3 lines with a different center point, those are marked with a suffix ‘mid’. They are symmetrical, the 'mid' version is vertically centred on the whole stroke. When you import the brush files you’ll see that a few of the brushes in the round families have different heights from the other brushes. The sources of these brushes have a different width height ratio (see the post linked above for the reason why). I added them to the brush files with a height that by default fits to the brushes with the standard height of 80px. 13. I have already posted this a few days ago, buried in a partially related thread, but reposting here for "posterity". I was attempting to divide one simple closed path with a few crossed free form lines. I.e. essentially wanting to create a jigsaw puzzle. A divide path functionality that I may have been using with FreeHand already back in the mid-1990s. And now: can't do! (Well, "could do" by adding nodes one by one on crossings, breaking and rejoining paths one by one, as was proposed in an earlier post in the aforementioned thread.) Definitely not what I wanted to get. The divider paths were open for a reason and must not "auto-close". The resulting forms cannot be cleaned up to the desired effect. Not to speak of more complex forms and paths. After spending literally an hour trying to figure it out in Designer and looking for workarounds, eventually I copied my simple paths to Illustrator CS5 (which still somewhat works on MacOS El Capitan), clicked a button, copied the divided form back to Designer. Task done within a minute:
  14. How can I clip off the unwanted lines at the tip of this bubble? It was drawn with the pencil tool. Secondly, I want to be able to make freehand shapes and then improve their shape. How would I make them more smooth in their overall form?
  15. I'm trying to look for an angled/tilted brush for hand writing with my pen tablet. I know it sounds extremely simple – it's one of the default brushes on Adobe Illustrator – but I can't seem to find it on Affinity Designer. Everything is rounded... Some taper off a the ends. But none are actually angled. Please help!
  16. Designer and Publisher (apparently not Photo) launches slowly since MacOS Big Sur 11.1 (i.e. 45 dock icon bumps) in its first launch after Mac reset or after a while closed (versus 4 icon bumps when recently launched). Why?, is it normal?, is OS guilty or the app?, Apple Silicon Macs will solve it? Emilio
  17. There seems to be little or no antialiasing on the multitude of lines to the right of this scarf making the staircasing effect extremely obvious when used at desktop and mobile resolutions for a game. (Picture 1) If I export as PDF, SVG or EPS vector only file and have something else render it like Edge or Photoshop, the antialiasing is much better (Picture 2) It's the same on-screen and also when exported via via bilinear or lanczos to PNG. Performance is set to bilinear and high quality. I'm using an outline FX, but it's the same when off. The difference is night and day, with the first one not being useable at all. Is there a way to increase the level of anti-aliasing? UPDATE 1 : The line is a brush, if I remove the brush and make it just a line, it ant aliases much better. Maybe this is a brush rendering issue with antialiasing?
  18. (Plus a couple of detail shots). Originally called “Miss Angelique is Very Disappointed with You”, but I felt it was just too long, hence “The Bombshell”.

  20. Lately, I've been using export persona more often due to a project I've been developing. So, I thought it would be more useful than it ended up being. The slices help a lot, but I had to click hundreds of time to assign the same profile to a lot of slices, and I see no reason for an export persona not being optimized to make things faster. #1 - I couldn't duplicate any slice. Duplicating the slices created with the slice tool, allowing me to simply move it around to another part of the canvas, keeping the export settings, would be great. #2 - there's no way to batch rename or batch set a multiplier to the slices' size. I had lots of slices and had to: click, rename, click the arrow, click to type, type "5x", and, then, go to the next slice. The only batch process I could find was changing the format. #3 - why do the slice made from a vector with an adjustment layer inside ends up being giant? If I have a simple square and make a slice from it, it'll keep the proportions. If I have the same square inside a group, and, inside this group, there's an—let's say—recolor adjustment layer, my slice goes giant. By the way, I'm not here to complain. If I'm wrong in any claim above, please, correct and teach me how to do it properly. I just wanna keep the work flowing with less brute force.
  21. Thought I'd share a project that I have been working on. I have always been fascinated with Meso-American cultures and their art and after reading Jo-Jo's Bizarre Adventures I couldn't help but make my own version. Oddly Matt Groening's work reminds me a lot of Aztec art but maybe that's just me. I made it using Affinity Designer and all vectors. Thanks for taking the time to view my work and I hope that you enjoy it.
  22. In this video, I m going to show you, How to change or remove background from hairy, massive, and complex images in Affinity Designer. In this Affinity tutorial, I have using refine selection with the selection brush tool. I hope It will help you. Thanks for watching it.
  23. With Designer 1.8.6 on macOS 10.14.6, when I open an SVG file and then try to export it as PDF, the application completely crashes. Steps to reproduce: - open attached SVG file - go to File / Export - select the "PDF" tab in the export dialog - the application crashes I have verified the SVG and found it to be a valid SVG file. I have some other SVG images (generated from the same source) where the same behavior can be observed. eILCD example - LDPE injection moulding parts model.svg
