  1. When is Transform tool coming to ADesigner? We really need a tool to warp or perspective our graphics/text as vectors, (no rasterized)
  2. I'm running into a lot of difficulty in setting which side of a curve the text on a path feature chooses. I've linked a video, as I feel it's probably easier to demonstrate. https://youtu.be/SluRwNK3bUk I have a curve and I'm trying to type on the inside of it to hug the ellipse above it, but no matter where I seem to click near the curve, the text wants to go on the outside. As you can see I manage to make it work with the pen tool curve above the main piece, but the curve that I want to use isn't performing in the way documented from the help page. Is there something wrong with the path that needs to be addressed, or what am I doing wrong in this instance? Feature request to the developers: A handle allowing people to easily switch the side of the curve the text is on would be helpful. Thanks ahead of time for all the input provided!
  3. Yesterday my Assets panel just went haywire. The Assets Categories are fine all the way down to a certain point. The content match the title of the Category as it should. After that, the 13 categories at the bottom have the wrong titles. When I open one of them and select Rename category... the name that pops up in the dialogue box is the correct one! When I try adding a new category and rename a previous one, the last category disappears! When I make another category, the content reappears, but under the wrong Category name...! If I create a new Category and rename it, no name shows. The field where the new name of the new Category should show is empty. It's like trying to design in the Twilight Zone...
  4. Has this issue been resolved? I use a font manager and I have not yet added these fonts to automatically load when the the design file is opened. Whether this would still be a problem with out using a font manager I don't know. 1. When the file is opened there is a popup that identifies the missing fonts and it disappears quickly. 2. In the character panel there is a missing fonts option that also identifies the missing fonts. 3. The problem is that those displays only identify the family typeface name and not the individual font names (bold, italic, etc) 4. So my images show three missing fonts of the Source Sans Pro typeface. There are 12 individual fonts that belong to this typeface. How am I supposed to identify outside of trial and error of loading fonts one by one to see which ones are used? I will submit this as a request if it has not been fixed yet . . .
  5. Hello, having some difficulty with masks in affinity designer. Is it possible to convert a mask to a pixel layer? Rasterise does nothing. How can you edit a mask when it's above another layer and not attached to one? Is it possible to invert a mask? using invert from the menu does nothing. Is it possible to view channels in affinity designer? I've searched for these questions but only find answers for affinity photo so any help would be much appreciated.
  6. Experimenting with illustrating different textures using all vectors, and fx... may come back to this to attempt wood grain...
  7. Hey everyone, I'm back with another video tutorial. This time, I've decided to create a minimalist vector illustration using Affinity Designer (Desktop version). I will be covering a few things in this illustration such as shape tools, pen tool, and geometry functions. Feel free to leave any feedback and I hope it will help you on your design journey. How to turn a sketch into a vector illustration in Affinity Designer (Desktop) Thanks, Mike
  8. As a hobby, I make metro maps in Affinity Designer. I frequently work with 45 and 90 degree angles, and I rely heavily on the snapping feature. I just started a new project, and for some reason objects aren't snapping to the center of a diagonal line. They snap to the center of a horizontal and vertical line, but when I move a circle over to a diagonal one, nothing. No lines, nothing happens. I've tested every single snapping setting and nothing has worked. I attached the grid settings, as I was told that was most likely the root of the problem. Is there anything I've done that's caused this and how do I get it to snap again?
  9. I need arrowheads for paths (not as a area) that are exactly as wide as the line width. Unfortunately this can't be set (yet) either (see screenshot), corners stick out at the sides. It would be especially nice if I could create my own arrowheads, like in Illustrator.
  10. I've drawn an illustration of a crocodile for no reason except too much time. 🙂 I'am working with Designer and Photo on a windows pc with a wacom tablet attached. The original photo was taken by vaun0815 at unsplash.
  11. The last client illustration project I worked on in 2020, and the first one I've posted in 2021 - had an absolute blast creating this! 👾 I used Affinity Designer (for plotting the initial layout and perspective guides), and Affinity Photo, with an XP-Pen tablet, for the drawing/painting, colouring, and finishing effects. There's a bit more insight into the process on my Bēhance if anyone's interested: https://www.behance.net/gallery/111102577/Pips-Meadery-Code Hope you guys like it! Stay safe out there, Christi. 🤙 http://www.instagram.com/christidutoit
  12. What is your operating system and version (Windows 10, OSX Mojave, iOS 12 etc)? macOS Big Sur 11.1 Affinity Designer 1.8.6 (trial version) What happened for you (and what you expected to happen) I want to remove "B" as a shortcut for the Pixel Tool, so it doesn't swap to Paint Brush Tool if I accidentally hit B twice. Every time I open the Designer, Pixel Tool has its shortcut set to "B". Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did). remove the shortcut "B" for Pixel Tool. close Affinity Designer. open Affinity Designer again. Pixel Tool has its shortcut set to "B" again. also tried: Saving the shortcuts as a ".affshortcuts" file. Closing Affinity Designer. Going to "~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Affinity Designer" Replacing the "shortcuts.affshortcuts" file with mine. Opening Affinity Designer. The Pixel Tool is set to "B" again (it seems it's always reset to "B"?) Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. Second monitor ASUS, using HDMI cable Wacom Intuos tablet Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) No
  13. Hi Everyone, I am getting back into creating content for my youtube channel again after a hiatus from it so I made this tutorial video on how to create a design system in Affinity Designer (desktop). Feel free to leave any feedback and I hope it will help you on your design journey. Thanks, Mike
  14. When I start up AD, I get a blank field, as in older versions, which I like and which is what I want. BUT, once AD is open and I start a new file, I get the preset window pop-up, which I find very annoying. Is there a way of stopping this window from popping up please? Thanks. There are SS below showing what I want and what I do not want.
  15. Hi, I required Affinity Designer in november, so please bare with me. I saw Wonderwomen, a car and a plane made by really, really great artists. I have no intention to get that good, but to get better I need to share my work for getting suggestion and tips. I am at kindergarten level. Starting out with 2 courses at Udemy, watched dozens of youtube tutorials, and glad I got it so far. The fur on the head is kind of okay, the body does not really fit. thearms stick out too much, shadowing is pretty hard. THe eye is jpg, I was unsuccesfull in following 'art with Flo' . I can not get the mouth blend better, like the illustration from Deema Egerov. (I need other artists work trying to recreate to develop myself.) So if anyone has some time to get me some tips, I love to hear from you. Many thanks, Yolanda monster1F.afdesign
  16. I'm running into a weird problem: I created a style from a shape with a brush stroke set at 8px. When I apply the style to other shapes, however, the stroke width is random, sometimes it's 6.1 px, sometimes 4.2. In my mind it should ALWAYS be the same width. what gives?
  17. I have a object that changes from grey to some greenish color cast when I apply a 3D fx. All colors within the 3D window have zero color, though I can visually correct by changing the light source color but that's less than accurate. Thoughts?
  18. From an observation around forty years ago in northern Manitoba.
  19. Is there a flat colour comic book effect please? Some years ago, with the version of DrawPlus or PhotoPlus that I had there was a comic book effect that could be used to process a photograph into a number of flat colour areas. I remember trying it out with a print screen image from Google street view of the town square of Chalons-en-Champagne, France. The number of flat colour areas used was a user choice. It worked well. I have in mind using such a process so as to produce flat area colour artwork from a photograph and to then use that artwork to produce a glyph for a colour font, so flat areas of colour are what I need. I suspect that if it is available it will be somewhere within Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo. I have bought licences for both but have, thus far, only used Designer a little and Photo almost not at all. William
  20. Is there a hexagon tool? I can find pentagon, but I need a hexagon
  21. I have some text that I snapped to an isometric grid. Now I want to make that text horizontal again. How do I do that? I can't seem to get it off the isometric grid even if I create a flat grid. Win 7, Aff Designer 1.8.5.703
  22. I have already posted this a few days ago, buried in a partially related thread, but reposting here for "posterity". I was attempting to divide one simple closed path with a few crossed free form lines. I.e. essentially wanting to create a jigsaw puzzle. A divide path functionality that I may have been using with FreeHand already back in the mid-1990s. And now: can't do! (Well, "could do" by adding nodes one by one on crossings, breaking and rejoining paths one by one, as was proposed in an earlier post in the aforementioned thread.) Definitely not what I wanted to get. The divider paths were open for a reason and must not "auto-close". The resulting forms cannot be cleaned up to the desired effect. Not to speak of more complex forms and paths. After spending literally an hour trying to figure it out in Designer and looking for workarounds, eventually I copied my simple paths to Illustrator CS5 (which still somewhat works on MacOS El Capitan), clicked a button, copied the divided form back to Designer. Task done within a minute:
  23. Hi all, I'm new to the forum. This is my first real project with affinity designer. Designer is very pleasant to use. Very artistic. I will never come back to Illustrator again.
  24. Thought I'd share a project that I have been working on. I have always been fascinated with Meso-American cultures and their art and after reading Jo-Jo's Bizarre Adventures I couldn't help but make my own version. Oddly Matt Groening's work reminds me a lot of Aztec art but maybe that's just me. I made it using Affinity Designer and all vectors. Thanks for taking the time to view my work and I hope that you enjoy it.
