  1. From this thread. Please consider this for the new feature. At least this will be more familiar to Adobe users. I think it is not hard to do, maybe. :D Cheers.
  2. Okay, long story short, I got a new boss and this boss wanted to rebrand. I'm an amateur and endlessly making changes to a logo isn't my idea of a fun time, so I had her open up a logo tournament. I set out the expectations of the final design, knowing it had to be a file I could work with. The designers soon realized that she had the final say and knew nothing about design, but only one of them would get the money, and that's the one who gave her a logo that looked good on the computer screen regardless of how it would print. She kept telling them she wanted a neon green, an electric purple, and he gave her an RGB logo. I requested countless versions, and the only one I can get to open right is the AI files. All of the EPS have issues, the gradients have issues, and when trying to use the CMYK versions we were provided everything prints like Pea Soup instead of neon green. I kept telling him to imbed the color profile and he keeps insisting that if I open it in Adobe it will work. I have issues with the files in AF and mac preview. I found that I can open the AI files and work on them but the colors will be off. I am going to post the files and see if you guys can help me.CW Logo Tournament.zip CELLULAR CMYK BK.ai CELLULAR CMYK.ai CELLULAR RGB BK.ai CELLULAR RGB.ai
  3. I am a newbie. I recently purchased Affinity and Adobe CC subscription. Each time I try to open any .ai file, it defaults to Affinity PDF. I have to cancel it then go back to the original file and right click to manually open as Illustrator. Kindly take a look at the screenshot and show me how to turn off this default. Thank you!
  4. Will Adobe Designer eventually be able to export as an .AI file? I was reading in the past about this topic, and someone said it was private. If this is the case, how can any Adobe file be exported at all? How can Adobe Photoshop not be private, whereas Adobe Illustrator is? Please let me know if this changes and explain this topic further so I can understand. What are file formats I can save as to keep it editable for an Adobe user to open Thank you so much!
  5. Hello, I have a issue when copying files from and to Illustrator. When copying geometry from Ilustrator to Affinity Designer it reduces the scale. Example: 10 mm in AI > 2,4mm in Affinity Designer. When copying geometry from Affinity to Illustrator it reduces the size about 20 percent <<< solved by setting "copy as svg" in Affinity Someone has a solution? Thanks and best regards pseudox
  6. I know this would be huge among the web designer community, but I also know it would be tough since it would probably need to be reverse engineered somehow... but if a Fireworks import was supported.... dang. This app would be THE design app for all the former Fireworks users who were recently screwed by Adobe. Thoughts?
  7. Hey guys, I need to send this logo to a company for some marketing materials, but he tells me it's not vectorized in his programs, even though i can save it in any size in affinity without losing quality of the image. Could someone tell me what to do or send me a proper version? I'm really not into design stuff, so it would be really great if I'd get an easy answer, haha. Thank you guys in advance! Regards Andi Logo_Var_3.afdesign
  8. Hello everyone, i just can't manage to export my graphic to a file that works as a vector graphic in the adobe applications. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Regards Andreas
  9. Hello! We have recentley upgraded our Designers to Affinity. Our main issue we are now having is creating brushes. We have created brushes by using the below method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNZbmvjtdmU But we are having issues with distortion and the brushes becoming lower resolution. Please see attached photo. Thanks! Matt. IT Support Agent Provocateur
  10. Do you think this Feature will be on your list? It's so usefull to copy some elements of an illustrator file and paste it in InDesign. Why doesn't it work in AD? Have you plans to do it? THX!
  11. Hi, I currently have Adobe Photo Element 10, and the software has been giving me several bug issues in the past year. I don't like their current subscription plan and layout. I wanted to switch to Affinity, but need to ensure that i am able to transfer the library i currently have with Adobe Photo Element 10 with ease, and also that the files i transfer from my Cannon camera will transfer into folders like Adobe Photo Element 10 did, and not like Apple Photo has it library transfer, and i can't fine a picture within a dated folder. 1. Can I transfer my Adobe Photo Element 10 library to Affinity with ease, and does a organizer come with it? 2. When i do transfer images from my Cannon camera will it transfer it into dated folders?
  12. Hello! My names Matt and I work for retail company that designs fashion products. ( I work in It please excuse my poor design lingo) We have recently been looking at Affinity designer as an alternative to Photoshop. It looks like a great product and we are hoping to roll it out to about 20 users. Background info: We currently use Photoshop an Illustrator CS5 We do not use much of the adobe suite Some users do very basic tasks - changing colours, resizing minor editing. During testing we had a few of the designers come down to try out the trial. The more experienced users got to grips with most of the basics but they had some issues with the following: Creating brushes was very difficult for them - Before they would make a small drawing using the brush tool in illustrator (a stitch pattern for instance) and then they would turn that into a brush.I have attached an example of the pages that they would use as brushes. The issue is when opened Affinity creates layers of every single little line (or stitch) this makes it very difficult to select them as a whole - is there an easy way in affinity to take these patterns and turn them into a brush? I tried basic dragging and dropping into the brush window but that didn't work very well! Another issue that the users faced was filling an area with colour, They would select a line by clicking on it or selecting a few lines that create a whole shape - how would they fill this? in Photoshop they found this a lot easier - is there a particular way in affinity to fill an area that has been outlined by lines? I do apologies in advance for anything that's unclear and please let me know if you'd like some more information and I will explain it as best I can. I can also try and find some example files that may help to explain. Matt. knitwear brushes.eps
  13. Hi, I refer to Affinity Designer 1.4.1, I am not able to open Example G.3 from the Adobe pdf reference document; - it opens fine in Adope Reader and in Preview. Nor any other uncompressed pdf that I have tried. Developing my own pdf documents without compression is part of my daily work. I attach the Affinity message I get, and a copy of the pdf. I tried, but did not find a similar request on the forum (couldn't work out how to search for topics) cheers, Jon affinity_message.pdf G3mac.pdf
  14. Not really a request or question but maybe a point to put in literature you produce. I have just created a 6000mm wall infographic for a client, client request 100% dimensioned vector artwork for in-house printing which was all good in Affinity Designer. However on export to PDF discovered that Acrobat is incapable of viewing artwork over 5000mm and all PDFs open blank. I was aware the illustrator and InDesign have maximum artboard dimension of around 5000mm, but had so scale export artwork down for client for PDF proofing.
  15. I've recently started trying to use Affinity Designer and have run into a small issue. When I try to open an older Illustrator CS5.5 document with Affinity Designer, it doesn't bring in the layers. Is there any way to preserve layers from an Illustrator document?
  16. Hi Guys: I have been using Photo and Designer for a while now and they are very nice. I am quite embedded with Adobe these days but can see the writing on the wall now. Especially after this last Lightroom release (6.2). I am hoping to find replacements for Dreamweaver, InDesign and Lightroom eventually. And due to the high quality of the software and present direction of this company, I am at least a little hopeful that development may be headed in this direction. So my question is; Is there a roadmap of where you guys are eventually going that you can share with us? I think a lot of us are wondering about this. I would really like to buy more stuff from you. Please advise.
  17. Hello guys, Do you have any plans to do like Adobe and go the UI design + Prototyping way? http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/introducing-project-comet-a-new-tool-for-designing-and-prototyping-user-experiences/ Although Adobe is clearly looking in Sketch's way by doing this, bringing prototyping directly inside UI design is a very nice approach. This looks like something that Affinity Designer could eventually do. Or maybe Affinity Publisher... or both. What are your impressions?
  18. This article by fantastic writer Tom Koszyk https://medium.com/product-design-ux-ui/the-perfect-ux-ui-design-tool-13-things-designers-needs-most-f35589ce18e1 highlights some very good points about Affinity Designer and the competition. I think it was well written and should be taken seriously. My question is: Will the issues raised here be addressed? I want to see Designer win all of these competitions. Thanks.
  19. Hi Affinity forum, I decided to buy the app for the price that is relative light engagement. Well, I use Photoshop since 2.51 version I enjoyed alot this new deal in graphics at this time. It was fresh and exciting to participate to this Adobe's journey. The big problem with Adobe which has a real expertise in bitmap is the expensive price they ask, socially unfair for real enthusiasts artists who couldn't afford the software solution. 20 or 10 years ago, there was an unreasonable needs into graphics business so prices jumped due to a mad inflation. Adobe has decided to deal with PC that has attacked the Apple market. Adobe has became an industrial software sometimes agressive, they attacked Quark Xpress market with In-design solution. But now how I can change of bitmap's software after more 20 years of photoshop's use ? Can I really transpose serious tasks (color management, quality image manipulation)? I use PS for verifications and corrections in professional way with approved settings by the profession. Will Affinity extend his software to exhaustive industrial norms workflow ? PS: Affinity seems to exploit deeper than ps .tiff files. I have been positively surprised by .tiff flexibility inside app. Levels are great! they push .tiff to a real pixel density and colors keep their soul. A good taste in photography rendering algorithm. One more bitmap software is ever a good news.
  20. hI again today tutorial is about Photo Manipulation Hope u like it result tutorial(HD) http://youtu.be/Iostr9Kz8B0
  21. Is ADOBE logging (and phoning home?), that one has Affinity Photo installed??? This question came up in another thread (and I could not change that thread’s title later on, but find the question too interesting to be overlooked) see here https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10868-useless-old-data-stuff-from-deleted-photo-beta-where-to-find-what-can-i-safely-delete/&p=46496
  22. When exporting to a PDF, my embedded documents are rasterized, which is problematic for printing. Please rework this system so that, upon export, the objects from the embedded document are "extracted" so that the PDF can contain all vectored assets.
  23. I use Indesign quite heavily for book and magazine layout I produce for a range of publishers, so would like to think I know my short cuts and my way around around Indesign. but this does make me struggle formatting lots of copy when jumping back to Affinity (example left aligning I would typically hit cmd L which is not so in Affinity Designer). So Affinity is done the Apple way, which is not bad if you start fresh, but I have a sneaky feeling this will put off switches handy in shortcuts from Indesign and Illustrator to the upcoming Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer if all the short cuts need re-learning from the off start. So my question is this....Is it possible to have Adobe shortcuts as an toggled option in preferences?
  24. Hello Guys! I made a small tutorial about the similarities between the Adobe Illustrator/Affinity Designer basic tools. I thought there might be some people coming from Ai who are interested. http://www.mediomix.de/affinity-designer-basics-spot-comparison-adobe-illustrator-tools/
  25. Love the simplicity of just being able to make compounds and pasting inside paths (just like going back to Freehand 8) - but I can't include it in my workflow just yet as the print shops I work with only accept print ready artwork in PDF/X 2001a or PDF/X 4- 2008-10 format which is now pretty much pro standard, unless you send for digital print + exporting vector formats ends up mostly raster to all but simple paths - Looking forward to Affinity Publisher to see if it can blossom into a genuine InDesign / Quark killer although it will need the ability to output PDF/X 2001a or PDF/X 4- 2008-10 formats to be a truly pro app that could easily merged into any design studio workflow - Slug and bleed would also be a handy addition - it would just be a shame to have an app with awesome, time saving features that lets you produce a great magazine / prospectus / multipage document designed for print and not be able just create a simple print ready file which any print shop could use!
