  1. Hello there, I work in AD. The software is great, thanks for that. I need to export to PDF or SVG or EPS, does not matter to me ... including layers, that I could open the file in Adobe Illustrator and could see the layers. I was trying to find out on affinity forum, but I was not successful. Is there a way to do that please? Unfortunately, exporting to PDF does not do the job. Nothing is rasterized and after opening in illustrator there is just one layer instead of 3 created in AD. And what more, there are separated objects, the ones with fill and the ones with strokes. I mean, in AD it is an object with fill and stroke and after exporting to PDF and opening in AI these are two different objects, one with stroke and one with fill. I don't know why is that ? Thanks for help. I attached a file. 1100235_58_ultra_terno.afdesign
  2. Is it possible to UN-embed an embedded file? I placed an Illustrator file into the AFD design and I would like to use the vector shapes in my ADF design, NOT just edit the embedded file or edit the components out. The only work around that I see is to edit the embedded file and then CUT the components to the AFD design. Seems reasonable, but doing so there is a Bug. When doing so, the colors of the Pasted objects are changed completely. Not sure if this is a Bug? So, maybe there is a function that allows the user to Un-embed the object? See attached screenprint for the color glitch.
  3. Hi everyone, I'm an illustrator and am trying out Affinity Designer. I've always worked with Adobe Illustrator and now try to switch to Affinity Designer. The tools I need are: - Just the pencil-tool (available) - Fluid tool to make my lines smoother (is this available?) - Remove lines tool (is this available?) I've included a screenshot with the tools where I am looking for in Affinity Designer. If someone could tell me where I can find those functions in AD, please :) Kind regards, Teun
  4. Hi considering that a lot of designers are still working with Adobe Illustrator, like some of my colleagues and collaborators, it could be nice the be able to import and export ai files like you did with psd. Thank You Keep up the good work
  5. Hello, I just saved my work to svg. format. Suddenly, I notice that the shadow from hand images that I've created using drop shadow effect are saved separately in PNG. format. I get confused what is that things so I try to delete it all. But then my saved images will be like this.. Do you notice that 'x' dot? The shadow disappear. Could it be my work step just not right? I get this hand downloaded from some free vector images website. I change the colour and add simple stroke and drop some shadow outside. Finally, I click expand appearance because I want the stroke to follow scaling together with that hand image (while scaling). So how do I remove that 'x' dot and save the image normally (together with the shadow, not in separate way)?
  6. Hi All, I recently transitioned to AD from Adobe Illustrator, 'mid-project', and am trying to open an AI file in Designer. It opens fine, but in places where I''ve filled in colour in Illustrator, you can see small white hairline artifacts in the design. Any Suggestions? Are these just screen artifacts? Or are they actually there? Thanks.
  7. Hi considering there is still a lot of people working with Adobe Illustrator maybe it could be useful to get an Ai import, so we could collaborate with other designers. Also it could be cool to get a .tga format export, it is a format pretty popular in video games for example. Thank You and keep up the good work! Like I said in my other resquests, if Affinity Designer can be as good as you say for UX/Ui design, concept art and UV unwrap for 3D models textures and colors than i'm all in.
  8. I just switched from PC to Mac and I have a lot of files in AI created on my now dead PC. When I try to open my AI files with 'open in', AD is offered as default, but files are blank. What to do? Is possible to open AI files created on PC in AD? Do I need some additional soft to translate my old AI files, so that AD will see them?
  9. Hello, I am really liking Affinity Designer as an alternative to using Adobe Illustrator. I am a logo designer/brand consultant, and I find the tools that I require are very well represented in Affinity Designer. In fact, I have yet to find a situation where Affinity has not been able to match Adobe for my purposes. The problem arises when I work within a team or collaborate on something with another designer (which I often do). As most of you are aware, Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard. The problem arises when I work within Affinity Designer but then need to forward the work to another designer to add/edit within Adobe Illustrator. They of course will not get an AI file and, exporting to other file formats (PDF, EPS, SVG) does not always work well. For example, if I am working with gradients, there is almost no way that I can find, to send a file to an Adobe Illustrator user, in which he/she can edit this gradient. It either gets converted to a raster image (PDF, EPS), or, in the case of SVG creates a completely different gradient. The only solution I could think of would be to add an additional charge to my clients/contractors that need me to work within Adobe Illustrator to cover the cost of a one month subscription for Illustrator. I would rather not do this however. Can anyone recommend any sort of solution to this problem? As I said, I would love to have Affinity Designer as my main illustrating tool, however this pitfall makes it difficult to work in a professional environment with other designers.
  10. Would be really good if there was a way to import AI brushes into affinity if it was possible. :)
  11. Maybe the question is a bit early because I have not really tried Affinity yet. The question is: do I need Affinity? I am interested in all your suggestions. I use DrawPlus, PhotoPlus and MoviePlus in my work as a teacher because my learners can afford to buy the software they learn on. For personal use I work with Adobe CS on Mac, but for scale drawings I use DrawPlus also running on the Mac inside a Parallels virtual machine running Windows 7 on the Mac. I can cut and paste between Windows and Mac OS. Why should I go to all the trouble of learning to use a new app at my age??? Your thoughts please . . . JohnMcK
  12. Hi, there is an option to import .ai files but I am missing the option to export a file in that format. Is there a workaround? Manually changing the file extension to .ai does`t work. For exchanging Adobe files with others, this option may be useful.
