  1. I'm testing AP on the free trial period at the moment, and have no experience with Photoshop. Could you tell me: 1. How do I use the adjustment layers to modify only selected parts of an image? 2. How do I use Affinity to isolate a portrait on a black background? I use Nik plugins extensively, and have used ON1 software solely for isolating portraits - but I feel that with Affinity I have a lot to learn, and I would like to get to grips with these basics during the trial period. Thanks in advance for any help. Please do keep it practical + simple!
  2. Hi all, Forgive me for asking a possibly taboo question, but I am wondering if any of you know if there are presets available for purchase that work with Affinity Photo. A lot of the photographers I work with use Lightroom, and they swear by their Mastin Labs presets. I am starting to feel at a major disadvantage for not using Lightroom with purchased presets, mainly from a time saving standpoint. The Mastin Labs settings really seem to take their editing to a new level - one I am frankly having a hard time reaching on my own. I am considering moving my work over to Lightroom because of the compatibility it has with things like this. Thank you!
  3. Hi, Where are the adjustments saved on the hard drive? I need to migrate the adjustments I've saved on my current Mac to a new Mac. Thanks!
  4. Hi all, first of all, apologies, I'm sure I've seen this covered before, but multiple searches have come up with nothing, so let's make a new one!.. I want to make simple hue, (or whatever) adjustments to a selected layer, without it appearing on a new layer above the selected layer and subsequently affecting the whole image. I understand the value of the live and non destructive adjustments, and, of course, wouldn't be without them, but sometimes I just want to hack the colour of a blob on a layer without having to go through all the hassle of dragging my adjustment layer onto my target layer and then applying the change. Sometime I just want to press CMD+U and drag a slider! Is there any way to do this as quickly and simply as some other non-mentionable apps might do it? If memory serves correct, I think there was a setting somewhere, but even that sounds like I might have to turn it on and off each time I didn't care about non destructive stuff. Thanks for listening Wayne
  5. Dear Affinity team To me there's a missing feature in APhoto: I would love more adjustments in brush preferences panel to structure / texture, such as scale, brightness and contrast. I love to change the interaction between texture and brushstrokes during painting. [Did a search first, no results to this topic] Canvas rotation is an other essential feature to me. This seems to be solved with the newest beta. Thank you. And congratulations to your well done apps. It’s fun to explore and compare it with PS, AI, Painter, ArtRage…
  6. Forgive me if this is already posted somewhere but I didn't see it. ACR shows automatic adjustments for different lenses and it automatically tracks what lens was used. In AP, when processing RAW images, I see the lens adjustments but from what I can tell its just all manually controlled via sliders. Am I missing any preset adjustments for various Canon L series lenses? Thank you!
  7. Hi, Just starting out evaluating the AP trial against my current editor (PS CS6). Very impressed so far; hugely impressed with your work. I primarily use Curves and Levels adjustment masks in my work. Using a Levels adjustment mask in PS CS6 and adjusting the Black and White levels, I can see a full-image clipping indication mask if I hold down ALT while adjusting. This is a really helpful tool. Is there an equivalent for this in AP? I tried holding down ALT while adjusting black/white sliders but there was no effect. I also tried the other modifier keys (Shift, Cmd etc), but also no effect. I'm using AP Trial v1.3.5 on a late 2012 Mac Mini running OS X 10.10.5. Many thanks, Matt
  8. I would like to see some function for easily switching between before/after preview in the adjustments panels. Keyboard shortcut, toggle or maybe split view like in the filter panels.
  9. After finding out that doing a levels adjustment opened a new layer, and I needed to toggle back to the background layer for the clone stamp tool to work I tried that and it worked fine. I then opened another image and went through the process again, levels adjustment, toggle to background, clone stamp tool. I then tried the Liquify Persona and when I dragged I could see the squares changing but the picture didn't change. I clicked on "apply" and left that and went back to "photo persona" and tried the burn tool. That didn't show any changes either even when I toggled between the layers. I then went to 'history' and saw all the adjustments I had made 'in theory' but the image hadn't changed. I clicked command-Z a few times and then saw the zoom option and changed the zoom to 100% from 125% [it was a small file]. Suddenly all my adjustments happened all at once, the liquify and all the burning I had attempted showed on the image. After that the burn tool worked like it should and I could see the adjustments as I was making them. My iMac is two weeks old so I don't think there is a speed issue there.
  10. I wish to adjust only a selected area of a photo. How do I restrict the adjustment to a selected area only?
  11. Hi, Has anyone noticed a difference in color of the raw file in AP and that same file in PS? How can i be sure i'm getting the correct color from the adjustments I'm making? Just curious because when i try to process in AP the images don't come out as great as i believe they are in PS. Thanks!
  12. Hi there, so good, that you added the assistant to the develop persona. Now the auto adjustments could be switched off, which for my camera is vital (Canon EOS 450D). Two things regarding that as feedback: - could you let the assistant remember the users settings? As it is now, you have to switch off the auto adjustments with every different raw file you open. - the auto adjustments might not be necessarily a bad thing with every picture. It would help tremendously if the adjusted values would be visible in the settings, so that you could fine tune the settings. As it is, every setting start with the same value whether it is auto adjusted or not. Then still: The raw quality is still inferior by far in comparison to the jpeg file, it is really, really noisy and thus lacks detail that is visible when I open the jpeg file. Might be just my camera... All the best and keep up the great work!! Oliver
  13. To whoever it may concern, One thing I noticed on my initial use of Affinity Photo, is that the sliders work well, but if I want to change by entering numbers into my adjustments, the fields do not highlight the full field, and this can slow down workflow by a lot. I think that would be a good feature to adjust. :) I was looking through the color balance adjustment, I noticed that it defaults to the shadows adjustment. This is fine, an insight that I have is that it would be beneficial to default to the midtones, because this is a more generally desired adjustment (at least in my mind) and then keep the options for highlights and shadows (which I assume is pretty obvious, but I am saying it anyway.) Additionally, I couldn't find this feature yet, it might exist. A very useful tool for Photo editing is the before/after function, this can be done easily with single layers, but turning each layer on and off individually can take time. If the layers can be turned on and off by mass selecting and then clicking boxes. That would help, or to have a hotkey to have only the original layer on. That would help too. I also noticed that the Zoom in/out shortcuts aren't fully functional and bug sometimes jumping large amounts or doing the opposite function. When I was doing this testing, I was using a Mac mini (Mid 2010) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB A significantly older computer, but Affinity is working great! Thank you so much for this! I am very excited to see how Affinity does. I am already planning on purchasing it when the time is right!! -Jordan
  14. In Affinity + photo Is there any way you can bundle multiple adjustments to make a custom preset. I have a load in Aperture, some very particular and useful. A custom preset is great for ensuring a batch has the same look and feel.
  15. The new beta works well with the B/W sliders. I saved a raft of B/W presets (too many) how can I remove some of them? ie:- delete a preset?
  16. It would be great to be able to quickly toggle view of adjustments on/off. In Photoshop, you can this by showing or hiding adjustment layers (or whatever). In Affinity Photo Beta, Adjustments are separate from Layers, and you have to switch palettes to toggle view. A simple n'off switch in the adjustment dialogue, or in the panel where its name resides, would be very helpful.
  17. Add the ability to all adjustments to reset the values to a default central position
  18. Under Adjustments In the Layers Panel the Gamma Slider can be moved from its default position. It would be nice to see a percentage left/right of the default setting.
  19. Suggestions: - While using the Levels adjustment, why not have the histogram react to changes in real time. It isn't much use without reflecting change. This is one of the most used features in any photo editor. - Cmd/Opt key click on layer, to create marquee selection based on visible/masked pixels - Pen tool needs ability to subtract nodes with Cmd or Opt keys - Maybe incorporate the Color/Tonal Range Selection into the Wand - option click between layers to identify/assign which adjustments are attached to which layer. Currently, You have to drag the adjustment just below the layer to have it packed in a folder in the layers list. -One strange thing I noticed, when you add a gaussian blur with before after shown… In the radius amount box, "Shift-up arrow" gives you increments by 10px. "option-up arrow" gives you 0.1px increments. But if you drag the slider slightly using the mouse you can get a very, very subtle blur less than 0.1px, but no amount is shown. Having the even finer adjustment is great, but difficult to do using the mouse. Maybe an extra modifier key for finer than 0.1px would be nice. Like: - The Speed! This program is quick. - Live modes - Before and after view slider.
