  1. Summary: If you try to "add" the two objects in the attached file, the second object is simply deleted. Application: Affinity Designer 2.2.0 OS: MacOS 13.5 Reproducible: Yes. Open attached file. Select the two objects. Click the "Add" button in the toolbar. Notes: If you first add a fill color to the second object, then it works. bug-10.afdesign
  2. Would be nice if I could "add" mix of closed curves and open curves at once. See the attached picture. right side is expected result. I know this can be done by closing open curves, but Illustrator can do this with single action of Pathfinder.
  3. I often run into the issue where I want to modify the curve object while I am drawing it. While I use the Ctrl key to temporarily activate the Node to move vertices around, I can't add nodes to the curve. That is because the Ctrl shortcut deletes a curve segment. 2022-11-23 16-06-17.mp4 This is strange to me, because if I switch to the node tool, I would expect that clicking would allow me to add vertices, like it would in the node tool. Instead, holding Ctrl to switch to the node tool also sets the node tool to delete segments. At the same time, Ctrl+Shift also deletes segments. Now then, shouldn't Ctrl+Shift be used to delete segments, whereas holding Ctrl should add vertices? That would enable all modification methods, while also making it the tool more consistent with the stand alone node tool.
  4. I don't know if anyone has noticed this bug but if you create an artistic text letter R,B,P,D and convert it to curves to create a vector object. Then clone that object with a CTRL drag. Select the cloned object and flip it horizontally. Then bring them together, so the stalk overlaps to give a mirrored, merged effect. Then select both images and use the geometry add function, the objects do not join as expected. The one on the right fills in the hole in the R, B, P, D but leaves the object on the left as is. I have included a document for you to try and replicate this for yourself. The object on the left is what the add function should do (created in DrawPlus). All you have to do is select both of the objects on the right and select geometry add function. This bug also occurs in Affinity Designer. Geometry bug.afpub
  5. Hi, I'm trying to create a singular curve by joining multiple individual curves together using the ADD boolean operation, but it is not working as expected. I have the following design below consisting of multiple curves, and basically I want to join them together so it becomes one single curve: When I used the ADD boolean operation to attempt to join the curves together it came out looking like this: I also tried to use the XOR boolean operation and then use the "Break Curve" and "Join Curve" options respectively to remove the newly intersecting pen curves, but for some reason the areas where the curves should join right after implementing the XOR operation become a jumbled mess (which makes using the Break- and Join Curve actions almost impossible): Hence I'm asking for help with this because I truly don't know how else to achieve this. Not sure if this question has been asked before in the Forum, but any help would be truly appreciated :).
  6. Hello :) Not quite sure how to explain my problem, but here goes: I am working on a logo design and I used some curves and some type to make it. I would like to make it different colors, so I can present it to my client. The problem is, that I have to select all the curves and change the outline color for them, and then select the type (which I already converted to curves) and change the fill-colour. Is there any way that I can make the logo into a cohesive vector-file, so that I can select the whole thing and change the colour? This would also be helpful for exporting it, so the client doesn't have to deal with this issue, but can just change the color of it as needed? Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate the help!
  7. I have Affinity Photo V1.9. I have a photo of 2 people that I want to frame. Problem is they are up pretty high in the picture and I wanted to expand the little bit of background that is above them a little further so that they appear a more centered in the picture. Is there a way to do this in affinity photo?? Thanks very much in advance for any assistance.
  8. We need the option or the tool for create unlimited artboards in Affinity Photo like in Affinity Designer is possible to a better and faster workflow
  9. Using the new 1.9.0.10 beta, I am trying to add together several expanded former strokes and fills to make one united vector shape. Each time I do so, a large portion of it just disappears. How are we supposed to be doing this aside from tracing the outside with a single pen stroke? Also, I have to keep switching over from the alternate fill mode to the winding repeatedly because when I grab a part of a fill and pull a node of it over top another, it just creates a negative space where they overlap otherwise. Lastly, we're still getting crazy number of nodes when expanding and dividing strokes These issues have been brought up for the last few years without a complete fix. stuff like this is in large part what keeps Affinity from being an app I can use exclusively
  10. Hi. Attempted to create a simple crest, made two objects. Now trying to add them together, getting result as follows: Affinity Designer file in question: crest-boolean-add-2-curves-fail.afdesign Thanks for explaining why the ADD boolean fails and perhaps a solution how to fix that inside designer, it happens to me quite often. Nothing like that ever happens to me in Inkscape, VectorStyler nor Illustrator. Edit: After reversing the direction of one of the curves boolean ADD works and the result is as expected. So I guess the thread can now be closed. FYI: Winding Mode was set to Alternate (Even-Odd).
  11. I have a bunch of former strokes I expanded - used the new divide function to clear overlapping former strokes and then selected all and hit "add" to merge back as one piece. The last step froze the app - this is not just a 1.9 beta issue, it's happened with all versions at times... I had to force quit the beta and reopen it. When it asked me if I wanted to restore the previous file, it brought up another design I was playing around with prior to this current one I got frozen with. That recovered file was an totally unsaved version - the one that froze on me was an existing file with a name saved prior. When I went to the open recent files, and selected my file that had frozen, it then offered to use the restored version... im glad it did, but I'm curious why it didn't offer both files to be restored since both were open when it froze.
  12. How do I combine these text letters into one shape/object and keep the stroke size intact? I converted the text to curves, I then "add" the shapes. And what happens is that I loose the stroke size, and the inner white areas are filled in. Thank you to anyone for helping solve this issue.
  13. Hi, could anyone help me with combining items? I have some curves grouped and a shape which I have converted to curves and I would like to combine them so that the stem doesn’t show in the box (please see image). I have tried ordering but I need to box transparent so that doesn’t help and I have tried various masks with no success. If I try the ‘add’ function I just seem to end up with the square only. I have shown a picture with my layers panel to see if it helps. Or maybe it just isn’t possible? Thanks in advance.
  14. hello designers , i am a new affinity designer user and i need someone to help me (look to the video) , and i need it to be like this (look to image) thanks Desktop_2020_05.11_-_10_21_12_01.mp4
  15. hello designers . i need some help in my practical logo design , i am a new affinity user and i do not know how to this logo by golden ratio , so if anyone can help me please tell me how to this , thanks. Desktop 2020.05.02 - 23.47.21.02.mp4
  16. So I purchased Affinity Designer for Mac and in all honesty it is amazing application and does 99% of what I need as a graphic designer. There is one thing missing! An IMAGE TRACE FUNCTION. This software would kill off Illustrator and would be perfect for any designer. Why haven't you added this feature yet? When will you add it? Will it be added? A lot of people can't afford Adobe's ridiculous prices and use not exactly legal methods to acquire its software. I love using Affinity Designer but its just LACKING ONE FUNCTION, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an Image trace function and quickly! Many thanks! Chris.
  17. In Designer 1.8.1, when performing Add, Subtract, or Xor there are serious bugs as shown in the screen capture below. Screen Recording 2020-03-03 at 11.56.29 PM.mov
  18. I’m having a recurring issue when trying to subtract an overlapping shape from the object below. Every time I try it, the resulting new object is distorted. This is something I’ve not had issues with until now. Same thing is happening when I try to add multiple objects together. Examples attached.
  19. So this one is reproducible. Funny how I needed this shape, its the middle of the Centenary Bank logo if you were wondering. So I use the trimming from the letters expanded outlines and that gives me the cross bar. Next I Add the two parts together, and ... well ... that's when the mathematics breaks. Please see attached, it seems to be the top left and right sharp angles that are getting it confused. If you flip the cross bar over it welds to the to bottom points. Can some one please test this for me and confirm it's a bug. Running the latest (v1.8.0.585) Thanks. Not_able_to_join.afdesign
  20. I’m having a recurring issue when trying to subtract an overlapping shape from the object below. Every time I try it, the resulting new object is distorted. This is something I’ve not had issues with until now.
  21. Hey guys, Check this out. AF tried to combine these two shapes with only 4 nodes, removing the one at the bottom and making the new shape round. Edit: I've tried combining the rectangle with a triangle and it's worked fine.
  22. I was in the process of adding multiple layers of curves via the OPERATIONS ADD button, then the ADD process bar shows and seems to be busy but never completes the task. Also, there is a visual "distortion" (in the "i" of "life". The program seems to be frozen without any responses when prompted.
  23. Hello guys i'm little bit stuck whit a very strange bug never happens before to me. Let me explain better, when i goes to blend those curves already expanded by strokes by Boolean op AF start to load like he is doing a super complex operation that should be instead very easy. pls help me to understand if depends on my pc that is not brand new but should runs Designer nicely for my kinds of works 😂 How you can see on the screen i was able to merge the first snake but not the second or third, even to mention doing all three together... that I thought should works easy , so the only way to stop this loading is terminate AF😟 Thank you for your attention and my apologize for bad English 🤗
  24. I'm using the current Designer beta (1.8.0.5). I have been encouraged by the new beta and much appreciate the much improved add and divide geometry tools. It's worked well with some tests I've run. I decided to test it out with a project I'm doing and ran into a few issues. I traced my sketch using the brush tool using the standard vector brush (100% vector) with the controller set to pressure and the stabilizer on. I then selected it all and expanded it - no problems there! I again selected it all and hit the "add" geometry option and the entire design disappeared. It actually made a new layer called "curve" above my artboard with nothing in it. I went back a step and tried doing the design in smaller chunks... it worked fine in some areas and not in others. When I have done designs like this in Illustrator, I've usually filled in sections with the blob tool or done a live paint fill. With Affinity not having those options, I fill in with strokes - potentially creating more work for the program to process. It's possible I did something wrong in my process. I know I used the same brush settings for the entire piece when I created it, so everything should have the same properties. I did increase and decrease the brush size at times. i included a video of the problem as well as the file with two layers - the unedited initial strokes and the other layer after I had expanded it in the video and attempted to add together sections Thanks for any assistance!
