  1. Hello dear people, I'd like to retouch a bunch of photos (resize/crop/contrast), all in the same way, and then export them efficiently (like not one by one). Is there a trick? With file->New Stack, I managed to do the retouching-part, which gave me a "Live Stack Group" in the layers panel. (Is this a "normal" layer with childs?). Now I am searching a way to export all single images from this Stack Group. efficiently. like not one by one. Is this even possible? Or maybe you would know a different way to go about it? TL;DR : Who knows a way to export several layers as independent pictures with "one move"? Thank you!!!! EDIT : I think I FOUND SOMETHING that works, via export persona and using the layers as slices... looks promising. sorry for the fuzz
  2. First, I apologize that I have different aspects of this problem in different topics. Summary of Problem: On my MacBook Pro 17", to which a Thunderbolt Display is connected, I have developed a RAW file in AP Develop and specified the ROMM RGB for output. In the Photo persona I changed the Document | Colour Format to RGB (16 bit), setup my adjustment layers and live filter layer, then export the document as a JPG, 100% quality, using the ROMM RGB profile, which should be embedded. When I compare the exported file and the document in AP, both at full size, both either on the laptop display or on the Thunderbolt display, the JPG is much darker than the document as displayed in AP. Both displays have been calibrated using basICColor display and an X-rite i1 Display Pro. I have several color profiles for each display, D50 L* 160 cd/m², D50 2.2 160 cd/m², D65 L* 110 cd/m², etc. Regardless of which one I use, the JPG is alway much darker than the AP document when both are viewed at full size on the same display. Only when I set the color profile to the factory default does the document in AP become as dark as the JPG, which does not seem to change much. (☚ Thanks to @owenr for the suggestion after doing some valuable tests!) Clearly, the take-home message cannot be, so just use the factory profiles, especially given the ages of the laptop (late 2011) and the Thunderbolt display (bought second-hand several years ago). Testing my Understanding: For some time I have been assuming the the export must be the culprit, but @owenr graciously tested my .afphoto on his (her?) Mac and verified that the JPG as displayed by Preview is identical to the document as displayed by AP. My understanding is, on Mac's applications don't need to worry about monitor profiles, that is the job of the OS. So AP only needs to worry about the working color space, described by the ROMM RGB profile, when rendering the document, and the target space when exporting, which, in this case, is the same. And, since Preview is color profile-aware, I should be seeing identical images, regardless of the monitor profile. But perhaps AP is doing something else when displaying the document? Or, not for the first time, my understanding is faulty. Can anybody explain what I am seeing and perhaps suggest how I can profile the monitor(s) so that the JPG and the document in AP are identical? For anybody interested, the .afphoto, a .jpg and a .tiff are here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l5oaidwrbn4xiot/AADQ32NVF14neGoV_fqEYV8Xa?dl=0 . Thanks
  3. Hi, I have the latest version of Affinity Photo running on a MacBook Pro 17" under macOS 10.12.6. When I use a Soft Proof adjustment layer to soft proof my edited photo before printing, I check the box to show the out-of-gamut areas. The tutorial leads me to believe they should be grey, but they seem to be black on my setup, and, depending on the photo, it takes a lot of playing around with the Curves adjustment to get rid of most of them. Is there a special meaning to black areas, as opposed to grey? While I'm at it: Where can I read up on curves, gamut, etc.? I've never used such a photo editing program before, not even Lightroom or Photoshop. Thanks.
  4. So i've taken quite a few pictures with my camera ready to be stitched into nice panoramas. Except, I cannot drag and drop the files from windows explorer into the New Panorama window of AP. Have I missed a setting or is this simply not possible? It's a bit tedious to search through thousands of photos to find the series i want to stitch. Any Ideas?
  5. Being very new, I'm using a number of tutorials to assist my learning. In many such, in both AP and AD, when they move their cursor along either the horizontal or vertical edge of the page, the center lines of the page pop-up, usually in green lines. Mine is not doing that. I've added a pixel layer, and doesn't matter if I'm using the pen tool, brush tools, or gradient tool, as I pass along the edges it still does indicate center lines. Where is the setting for turning this one?? Here is the URL of a tutorial that describes it early on:
  6. ...is only 1024. Way too small. I would like to twirl all photo so up it to 9999 at least, please. (yes, I tried to enter bigger values numerically but no, 1024 is maximum.) Edit: The same maximum seems to be in all distortion filters.
  7. I'm recording a macro in AP windows to create a new fill layer and change the fill color. Macro recorder dies when I change the fill color. Error is "can't record set fill". Anybody know a way around this?
  8. Hi, I'm a relative newb to Affinity Photo but have some photo editing experience with Photoshop & others. The issue I'm having is with scanning an image at the highest resolution for editing in AP. I have a Brother Ds-720D and am using NAPS2 as the scanner software on a Windows 10 machine. I am scanning at 1200 DPI. Scanned images when viewed in NAPS2 when zoomed to the extreme (1000%) show almost no sign of pixelation. When I try to export in any photo image format - png, jpeg or tiff - the output file is quite pixelated. Viewing the file properties of the exported file shows it's reduced the image to 200DPI. From what I can see I've set the NAPS2 preferences for the highest quality output. So ... I tried exporting as PDF and the output file when viewed using Adobe Reader with extreme zoom (1000%) looks identical to the image as viewed in NAPS2. Ok, so now I seem to be getting somewhere ... However, when I try to open the PDF in Affinity Photo the maximum DPI I can select for the import is 400. If I go with that setting the imported PDF is significantly better than the tiff import but is still quite a bit more pixelated than viewing the PDF in Adobe Reader. [example below with the AP import on top with the Adobe Reader view below] BTW, I've set the View Quality setting in AP to Bilinear (Best Quality), so that is not the issue. Is there any way to import my PDF at 120DPI? If not, can anyone suggest a better way to get the highest quality scan into AP? The image is a crusty old, low-quality set of four snaps from a photo booth (yeah, a real one) from when my wife & I first started dating over 20 years ago. We'd like to crop the four images, clean them up somewhat and blow up prints from them. I realise they'll always look like low-quality photos and I'm happy to roll with those artefacts. What I want to try to avoid is adding additional processing artefacts. Hope you can help. Cheers, Stew
  9. I notice now that AP beta displays "Loading Fonts" on startup. Is it loading the full set of Windows fonts, and would the number of fonts being loaded affect AP startup times?
  10. Is there a way in AP (Windows) to save different Settings in the optionbar. One example of several settings: I prefer to work with the gradiant tool - Type Linear white to black. Unfortunately, affinity can not remember such Settings. Thank you for a answere. Armin 60/5000
  11. Just saw this market map of the Digital Photo Industry ... Introducing the first market map of the Digital Photo Industry a bigger map picture from Dpreview ... and wondered that Affinity Photo isn't a named part of the Desktop Editors and Mobile Apps categories there. Maybe Serif should tell them to be added there too (?).
  12. Hi, would it be possible to implement a log (logarithmic) scale for histograms? It would be easier to see small pixel counts without having to mouse over. Cheers.
  13. After placing an image file in a document the newly created layer is of the "Image"-type, which might be ok to avoid recompressing the image, if you plan to export the document as pdf. But it is necessary to ratserize this layer in order to make pixel manipulations to it. I forget to do this almost every time I place an image, thus pixel manipulations just do not work but AP does not even complain that it is an image layer I want to work on... So it would be very handy to have a menu item "Place As Pixel Layer...". I think this could be solved by a macro, but I would prefer the command in the "File" menu.
  14. With CTRL+left click on a layer icon it is possible to create a selection from the contents of this layer. In PS (I know, AP is not PS...) you can use SHIFT or ALT as modifiers for adding to, subtracting from or intersecting with an existing selection. I would like to see this in AP, too. For adding two or more layers to a single selection there is at least a workaround: make a group from the layers you want the selection from and CTRL+left click the group layer icon to get a selection made of the "summed up" content of each of the grouped layers. However I haven't either figured out a way to realize the other operations or how to modify an existing selection with "selection from layer".
  15. While in app photo on ipad if I choose to open the image from here in another app, i can do so with a certain amount of apps, all I do is select the one I like and disable the others. Is it possible to do this with the AP app ?
  16. hello all, anyone knows how to use the nik hdr efex pluing within affinity photo? in order to create a true hdr image, multiple exposures of the same pic are needed. the problem is, how can they passed simultaneously from affinity photo to the plugin? the plugins menu gets grayed if more than one layer is selected. this prevents passing more than one image to nik hdr efex. i only could use it outside AP until now, making it load multiple tiff or jpeg files. maybe i am missing something obvious... any suggestion would be appreciated. thanks, stefano
  17. Hi Folks, I'm after some help again.... So I really admire two very very good automotive photographers... Amy Shore and Laurent Nivalle. Both have a similar(ish) style and this extends to their editing process. I have read numerous interviews with both of them and they both mainly use Photoshop (Sorry to swear!) rather than lightroom and I am very keen to try and re-caprture their respective styles but by using Affinity Photo. I have attached two files which are photos from both Laurent and Amy respectively. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction to try and obtain the same style? Obviously I don't want to be copying their styles out right as that is not what photography is all about but I am very curious as to how to achieve this. Thanks folks, hope you can help. Regards Mark All credit for the attached two images go to Amy and Laurent.
  18. Hi I'd like to see the ability to edit masks easily now is very hard to do it, it would be nice to be able to edit masks with levels or curves or something so
  19. when I choose to export TIFF e.g. it does not make a whole lot of sense to offer PNG etc. options and presets? cheers
  20. It would be great if AP would come with a similar "Symbol" functionality as AD. Could as well be called "personal graphics library" ... consisting out of (single or multilayer) documents that could be inserted in various documents as "instances" ... (references - internal as well as external). I could think of a multitude of situations where such a functionality would be extremely useful (Logosd, Watermarks, linked content from externam sources etc). And since the general code for such a functionality is already implemented in AD ... and will be essential in any publishing product in the future ... Just my 2 cents ;-), Cheers, Timo
  21. Affinity Photo version 1.5.2 1. Auto select existing parameter to speed up data entry When the user clicks on the value box to enter a parameter value, the cursor is place at the position of the mouse click. It usually requires the user to select the entire contents and type over or backspace to clear the existing value. Data entry would be faster if AP auto select the entire value string when the user first click on the value box and the user just needs to enter a value over it. 2. Tone Mapping Persona - Collapsible Preset Area The tone mapping preset area is displayed permanently which occupied precious screen real estate especially if you are working a small monitor (eg. laptop). The preset is useful to get a starting point to work on, thereafter, most of the adjustments are carried out on the "studio" panel on the right. A collapsible preset area would give the user a bigger space to work on the image. 3. Default UI color Dark gray on even darker gray is hard to distinguish. This is especially true for the dynamic toolbar that shows the various mode for each tool the user is working on. For example, in the Pen tool, it is hard to distinguish at a glance which mode (pen mode, smart mode, polygon mode, ...) the pen is currently in. 4. Crop tool. Provide a modifier key to change the cursor from selection to move (vice versa) When the user first select the crop tool, the cursor is default to selection point even though the crop frame is displayed. The user can click on the edge handles to reside the crop frame or directly draw the crop frame using the selection point. If the user first change the the crop ratio, the selection point remains even though the crop frame is already displayed. There is no way to move the existing crop frame other than to draw a new one. It would be better to have a modifier key to toggle between selection cursor or move cursor. 5. HSL dialog. Ability to display all the colours instead of using a drop down In the HSL, it would be nice to display the colour swatch for the user to select instead of using a slower drop down menu. This way, the user can quickly and intuitively select the colours to adjust. 6. Photo / Developer Personas. Adjusting saturation & vibrance. In the Photo Persona, colour saturation is adjusted on the HSL adjustment whereas vibrance has a separate adjustment. In the Developer Persona, saturation and vibrance are grouped together. Would it be possible to standardise these adjustment in the two personas? 7. Blend mode I am a novice in using the blend mode and I find it hard to visualise the result. I'm wondering if an assistant and/or some presets would be useful to help users in utilising this feature.
  22. It would be nice to have the "extreme" option in the raw developer exposure settings. This would allow users to develop highly under exposed images, for example, when the flash did not go off.
  23. Hi I'd like to apply borders to finished work. In programs such as PS or the old Paint Shop Pro, I used to select all>contract by [x] pixels>invert selection>apply effect to selected area. Is there a similar procedure for AP? Thanks
  24. I've received an offer from Serif for Photozoom Pro 6, the dedicated enlargement software I previously used with Photoplus in various incarnations. Since moving to Affinity Photo, I've been very happy with the Enlarge Document function in AP - my question, does Photozoom Pro produce enlargements any better than AP can natively, or are elements of the Photozoom algorithms part of the AP process? I'd be interested if anyone has done any comparitive tests. Thanks chaps.
  25. Hello, AP 1.5.2.66 (Beta) crash on Windows with Wacom Tablett, Bamboo Driver V5.3.0-3. First: - Manualy uninstall the previous beta (in system control) - Install AP Beta 1.5.2.66 -> (no error messages) --- 1. Start AP Beta (First: Wacom Pencil moves normally) 2. Create new Picture or open an existing picture (does not matter) 3. Center the picture with the hand tool -> Movement with a tremble effect 4. Select the brush tool and move brush on canvas Result: The brush tip moves in a different place on the picture -> then AP crash immediatly. I hope I could help. Pinnochio
