  1. Does not open files in .ai or .eps format. They appear as an empty representation but nothing else. Don't appear to be hidden, as no obvious way to reveal any files contents. icons.ai icons.eps sunz.ai sunz.eps
  2. Hello guys, I'm a new user and i wanted to know if it's possible to work on Affinity with .ai files ? It seems impossible but maybe there is a converter (from .ai to .afdesign) which allowed me to do it . Thanks a lot ^_^ ^_^
  3. Hi All, I recently transitioned to AD from Adobe Illustrator, 'mid-project', and am trying to open an AI file in Designer. It opens fine, but in places where I''ve filled in colour in Illustrator, you can see small white hairline artifacts in the design. Any Suggestions? Are these just screen artifacts? Or are they actually there? Thanks.
  4. I have a question. In illustrator is something like Live Paint Bucket that allow you to easy filling objects. Is there something like that in AD? Or need to redraw everything using pentool and fill ii with colour? For example I have toothed gear that I want to colour, made it using some circles and lines. Second thing is there a way to 'Origin' point, eg. in the center of circle and move/rotate everything by exactly this point? Its showed there. Maybe its already that in AD, but couldn't find it and searching didn't show something usefull.
  5. Hi, Should be really great if it would be possible saving project in AI format to import them in after effect. Actually, when i use the PDF format, there's some problems with the transparency and gradient. Thanx and thanx for this awesome software!
  6. I just switched from PC to Mac and I have a lot of files in AI created on my now dead PC. When I try to open my AI files with 'open in', AD is offered as default, but files are blank. What to do? Is possible to open AI files created on PC in AD? Do I need some additional soft to translate my old AI files, so that AD will see them?
  7. Hello, I am really liking Affinity Designer as an alternative to using Adobe Illustrator. I am a logo designer/brand consultant, and I find the tools that I require are very well represented in Affinity Designer. In fact, I have yet to find a situation where Affinity has not been able to match Adobe for my purposes. The problem arises when I work within a team or collaborate on something with another designer (which I often do). As most of you are aware, Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard. The problem arises when I work within Affinity Designer but then need to forward the work to another designer to add/edit within Adobe Illustrator. They of course will not get an AI file and, exporting to other file formats (PDF, EPS, SVG) does not always work well. For example, if I am working with gradients, there is almost no way that I can find, to send a file to an Adobe Illustrator user, in which he/she can edit this gradient. It either gets converted to a raster image (PDF, EPS), or, in the case of SVG creates a completely different gradient. The only solution I could think of would be to add an additional charge to my clients/contractors that need me to work within Adobe Illustrator to cover the cost of a one month subscription for Illustrator. I would rather not do this however. Can anyone recommend any sort of solution to this problem? As I said, I would love to have Affinity Designer as my main illustrating tool, however this pitfall makes it difficult to work in a professional environment with other designers.
  8. Is there a way to import all the art boards in an .AI file instead of just the first one? Or at least be able to choose which art board to import?
  9. I am loving this program and I am hoping it will solve the problem of subscription based programs. I am using the trial version and started opening Adobe Illustrator files and have noticed any art work I have outside the art board is missing. Is there a way I can still get to all that? I work all over the file and not necessarily within the art board. Thanks!
  10. I've imported an ai file for a logo into affinity designer. I'm not able to change the text. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks!
  11. I can open AI files in Affinity Design, but I cannot seem to edit them except gross resizing of the entire image or individual parts. How do I get at the control points for editing?
  12. I downloaded the free trial of Affinity Designer to see if it could be a replacement for AI. For my workflow is missing the tool to create a vector graphic from a picture file like in AI where I push the button RECALCULATE IMAGE and EXPAND to get a vector graphic out of a .png file, if I get this option then I will definitely do the switch to Affinity Designer
  13. Guys, it should be great app for microstock contributors. There're a huge amount of users, who can prefer AD instead of Illustrator. But there're many things that you need to do, if you want to increase the amount of users. The main thing for microstock illustrators is normal export to EPS format, especially EPS10, that all microstocks approve (http://goo.gl/oIYOpA). "Normal": 1) without problems of rasterization (now with gradients) 2) with handy option of expanding, like in AI (text, brushes, lines, etc.) 3) with the possibility to continue editing in Illustrator - hope it's temporary. http://www.istockphoto.com/help/sell-stock/training-manuals/illustration/quality-standards - this manual can help you. You are just amazing! Waiting for more comfortable version for microstock illustrators. You must think about this, seriously. Microstock users are a huge piece of world market of illustrators. p.s. sorry for not so perfect english
  14. Hey, Im having an issue when opening a .AI file ( that was created in illustrator ) in Affinity Design. The original file was created at 72 PPI in Adobe Illustrator. When i open it in AD, the DIP is being set to 156. I have changed the DPI back down to 72. However the whole file is essentially double the resolution/pixel that it is in illustrator. Im very new to AD so it could be something iv just set up wrong, but i cannot for the life in me work it out. I have attached a couple of screenshots to show the size difference between the two programs Any help is much appreciated Cheers Ben
  15. I've noticed some strangeness when importing my *.ai files in Affinity Designer. You can do this test to see what I am seeing: 1. In Illustrator, sketch a rectangle and color it 100% K (in a CMYK file), then make it 60% transparent. 2. Save a PDF compatible *.ai file. 3. Open your *.ai file in AD. 4. Note inside "Layer 1" you have "(Group)" and inside that you have "(Curve)" 5. Note the "Opacity" slider in the "Color" tab is set to 100%. 6. With "Layer 1" selected in the Layers palette, decrease that "Opacity" slider (the one OUTSIDE the Layers palette) to say 50% and you can see your object lighten but the "Opacity" slider snaps back to 100%. Do that again when you have "(Group)" selected and the same thing happens. But do that when you have "(Curve)" selected and your chosen value sticks! Strange. Very strange. 7. Note that you can also change the separate "Opacity" slider that resides inside the Layers palette. And only "(Group)" shows 50% (the value you set in Photoshop), while "Layers 1" and "(Curve)" show 100%. All this is very confusing to me. First of all, why not just import than single object as a single object? Why create two objects "(Group)" and "(Curve)"? Next, what is different about the Opacity slider in the Color tab, which sits just millimeters away from the separate Opacity slider inside the Layers palette? Sorry if my questions are confusing but I myself am confused. Thanks.
  16. Hi All, I am a new user here. Really love the AD and amazed by its feature and speed. However, I just found out the clipping mask with gradient effect I made in AD were pixelated after export in .eps and .pdf file. I didn't check "Rasterise unsupported effects" but the result is just disappointing. The original file in AD looks sharp when zoomed in, but not the case in AI and PDF. Can anyone help me here? thanks! AI AD test.afdesign
  17. I have been unable to import Encapsulated Postscript files with AD. Currently, I am opening them and then saving them as CS6 .ai files before I can use them. Is there a workaround? I tried to attach an example file but I was informed by the post software that I am not permitted to upload this kind of file. Thank you. Cyran
  18. I am trying to use Affinity with my colleague who uses Adobe Illustrator (latest version). He saved a file as an EPS and I tried to open it with Affinity, it was a total disaster. He then saved it as an AI file and it is not as bad but still does not look the same. I thought this was supposed to be totally compatible with AI?
  19. Hi there I am editing an AI file and need to replace existing text with my text. I cannot edit the text. The instructions for illustrator state you are required to. "Right click and Ungroup your chosen illustration then select the Isolate Selected Group option." When I view the layers they are not grouped together but simply individual letters. I have attached the file, can you edit any of the text? Would GREATLY appreciate any assistance, I am very new at this. Meat-Cut-Illustrations.ai
  20. Hi all, I just been looking in the Adobe forum and this is what I found: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6813810#6813810 and the other posts... I snapped up Affinity Designer the other day after watching their promotional video. So far, it well lives up to its promises and is as well-behaved as any software out there, legacy or not. Serif is a company to watch. I'm sure their photo editing and page layout software will be equally good as Affinity Designer. A new paradigm is upon us all... I was also a big fan of FreeHand but I always hated Illustrator. Recently I have spent a lot of time on iDraw and really enjoy it. One advantage it has over Illustrator is that you can exchange files between iPad and Mac. Affinity Designer also looks interesting and I hope to give that a try as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Affinity Designer is very interesting and is an easy replacement for Illustrator to me. I am so glad someone suggested that. #1 paid app in the Mac App Store! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are using a Mac, you could always download the currently free beta of Serif's Affinity Designer and see if it will meet your needs in the future. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/ I think they intend on selling it for something around $30 or so once the beta is over. It is still beta, there is still work to be done. The ripples are growing and the next wave of customers will come over like a tsunami ...Roll on Publisher and Photo in 2015. Well done everyone. We can do it. We are doing it.
  21. Just did my first simple project. The art was intended for use in Adobe After Effects. I need to keep the art as vector art and the layers need to be kept intact when imported into AE. Photoshop does not work because the vector art is rasterized. EPS does not work because the separate layers are not recognized by AE. To my knowledge, only native AI files work for this in AE. Thanks.
