  1. Wondering how Affinity Photo is preparing or has prepared the integration of AI like Adobe does at the moment. I saw that Adobe Photoshop is now able to work with AI. Insert objects with written statements, remove items enhance the image and edit in seconds in stead of hours. Ai is now entering the photo tools. It’s amazing and I’m looking forward to get such also in Affinty Photo. It is for me worth to switch back since my workflow and edit time will be substantial reduced. Have a look at it below and just like the title says, it’s amazing. Serif, Can we expect such also in short term? Is is already available as plug-in in a certain way? or will this be End Of Life of Affinty Photo?

  3. I was wondering if Affinity Photo could benefit from some AI features / functionality? What I am envisaging is an Image Generator, and Image Editor in terms of background removal, replacing backgrounds, skies, etc. Oh! Perhaps upscaling too! I have been playing around with various AI Image Generators, and I am blown away by what can be achieved. What do you think about this idea? I think it would bring Affinity Photo (especially) in line with Photoshop. Perhaps the Affinity Website could feature an AI text to image generator - it could bring more custom for the Affinity range of products.
  4. Hi! I recently updated to Affinty Publisher V2. I've used linked .ai files in Publisher V1 before with success. The files only contain outlined text, no effects and no pictures. Now after updating to V2, placing the ai file makes it rasterized. It stays the same after exporting it as pdf. Any ideas on how to solve this?
  5. Fotosketcher 3.90 is now available with a new painting style and scripting support. It also has the ability to use multiple painting styles one after the other. https://fotosketcher.com/1
  6. Many of us have been asking for the Default Save to be the Source Folder in V 1.xxx, but we were totally disregarded, even though this would have been very easy to implement (as an option perhaps). I don't know if V2 has this option, and I don't want to waste my time even to try the Trial version to find out. Furthermore, the upgrade price for V2 from V1 is over 2x as high as purchasing V1 from scratch, hence this does not interest me. Finally, Affinity Photo V1 was promoted as a great alternative to Photoshop which is only available as a subscription. At the time of V1 release it was a wonderful option, but at this point, when Photoshop has gained some really very useful features, especially the Ai Generative features(Firefly), Affinity Photo V2 features fall short. I understand that the use of Ai, implemented as Firefly by Adobe, requires some costly high speed GPU servers, which Affinity may not be able to afford. However, many of us who run Stable Diffusion on our computers with a reasonable nVidia (GPU) video card have the power to implement Ai, and possibly other serious graphics users who are not familiar with Stable Diffusion may also have the necessary hardware. I have just learned that the Koi Krita plug-in will deliver Ai features to the free Gimp program, which will allow many of the same capabilities that Firefly offers in Photoshop CC, given sufficient GPU power in your own Computer. If Affinity will implement such a plug-in for V2, I will be definitely interested in upgrading to Affinity Photo, otherwise I have no interest in spending the money. Thanks for reading !
  7. Here are a few of my AI Chip + Logo Icon Assets, these assets are plain vectors (grouped vector curves). This AI set is kept in b&w (graylevels), so you have to color the curves yourself if you have a need for colored representations. The corresponding assets files: ai_chip_logo_icons.afassets - Have fun with these free to reuse AI assets! 😳
  8. Hi, does Serif have any plan for AI integration (E.g: stable diffusion, or Affinity built-in AI) in the near future?
  9. Hello Affinity Designer users. I'm starting to introduce AD and AP in the company I'm working for. One of my jobs is drawing some illustration of various parameters for our UI of our grinding-machines. Currently I like to find out how seamless the transition for AI to AD would be. So I opened a couple of source illustrations, which contain between 20 and 160 artboards / drawing area (I'm not familar with the English term). So far all graphics are visible. But: in AI I named the drawing area for the IDC (Item Description Code) they are used for to illustrate what's going on. The AI file in Designer just shows "page 1, page 2...". I really don't want to rename all artboards from scratch. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting in either app I need to change? Also, the guides from Illustrator do not appear after importing the file in AD. Same for the symbols / icons - neither name nor the full symbol is shown. I also had to use two different drawing areas for each illustration as the purpose is not only "exporting into UI database" but also "exporting into asset management database for documentation". But the 2 drawing areas on top of each other now appear as two different artboards, neither aligned nor connected. It looks like a lot of manual work, so maybe I need to draw back my recommendation of AD as replacement for AI.
  10. I am running Affinity Publisher 1.10.5 and Affinity Designer 1.10.5 on macOS 12.5. A colleague sent me an .ai file and a PDF of that .ai file. The files use a single typeface, which we both have installed on our systems. When I import either file into either app, the graphics look perfect. But all of the text is completely garbled. I can select the text, but it's complete gibberish. (See attached image.) If anyone can explain to me, or point me to a resource explanation, as two why the text is garbled -- and perhaps to make it not garbled -- I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
  11. Hey guys, There is actually only one thing missing for me in AD. But thats a big one, especially as it speed up my process immensly since it was introduced in AI. I'm talking about the notorious Shape builder tool. Of course you could make something else, that increases the speed of boolean operations. :-) (idk, shortcuts maybe?) Thank you in advance, Felix
  12. Hi, It will be a bit long, since I have to touch other, very closely related issues as well. Rhino to Affinity Designer: So I'm a bit lost, at first a seemingly easy excercise: how do I get linework from Rhino/RhinoWIP to Affinity Designer without using a 3rd software? The exported .ai/.eps files won't be read, and .dwg is still out of league. Relevant McNeel Discourse threads: https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/what-export-option-to-use-to-get-rhino-into-affinity-designer/38872/6 https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/exporting-in-eps-ai-format/37015/8 https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/reading-exported-ai-files-in-vector-editors-other-than-illustrator/18092 I've tried the vector PDF as described, but it is extremely messy, not usable. I have no idea, why the curves are joined into one curve: I have to explode them, then I tried joining them like described here, but no success, they remain detached. Here are my questions: Can we expect extended .ai or .eps compatibility, or even better, support for .dwg files? In the meantime, what do you suggest to send linework from Rhino to Designer? Two very closely related topics: 1. DWG/DXF exchange between CAD software and Affinity Designer This is a thread asking for DWG/DXF support, which if I recall, did not happen since then: Please consider increasing attention on this matter, as the latest official reply was from @MEB, over 2,5 years ago. This is a very important feature for many designers (myself is an architect), since most of the time our drawings are not generated in Designer/Illustrator. There are flexible 2D editing and publishing tools (e.g. ARCHICAD), that handle technical drawings quite nice, but not textured drawings, so a more tailored, flexible tool is in dire need. But the (seemingly) lack of interest from the development side is a bit saddening, since involving another tool in the workflow leaves Designer on the shelf - which is pity, since Photo is wonderfully replacing Photoshop. 2. Select same... functionality Other software generated PDFs from e.g. ARCHICAD are better structured, but one needs a lot of time to prepare them for exporting - I'm saying this workflow issue has two sides, but the lack of select same... features are also hurting a lot. (Also, ARCHICAD cannot produce .ai or .eps files, so the common denominator is DWG.) Thread here: This is almost a 3,5 years old request. To summarize: I recognize this is a long standing issue at McNeel as well, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate a usable, decent workflow involving Rhino and Designer. (I've read over there at Discourse, that someone asked older .ai support already in the Windows beta threads, but couldn't find anything related.) But from your side, adding support for generic formats, namely DWG/DXF, with layers, and functionality that helps converting technical drawings (Select same) to Affinity Designer files is a must in the long run. I can only speak from my side of course, but the increasing activity in the above linked threads might suggest, that these are features that would be very welcome. Here is a small testing pack, a .3dm (Rhino) that should originate something, that I can create a usable .afdesign file from. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nytg3owlf2rf8eh/AABtbW1dxAkhonOaRwPRI5pVa?dl=0 Thank you!
  13. Hi, We found that Affinity Designer has some serious problems with EPS files. Many parts of the vector end up pix-elated! We found a workaround; we opened the EPS files in Adobe illustrator, then saved it as an AI file. When we open the AI file in Affinity Designer the file has no issues! Thanks for looking into it! 14. Hi, This is my first attempt at using Affinity Designer and have come to a hurdle; I am trying to edit the text on an existing logo that was created in AI. I cannot seem to be able to select the text, is this maybe because it has been rasterised? Is there a way I can do this please? Thanks.
  15. Hi, I´m trying to import into Affinity Designer files in AI format from Rhino 3D software. If I open directly in Affinity nothing is imported, empty document. But If I open the same file in Illustrator all the info is there, and if I save the file inside Illustrator and them open in Affinity the info is there. So, the problem is to open the file directly. Any suggestion? Thanks
  16. I wanted to make absolutely sure before purchasing brush sets off of Creative Market... Affinity Designer can import .ai files correct? Are there any special considerations I need to consider? For example, this following brush set: https://creativemarket.com/Guerillacraft/100638-Scatter-texture-brushes-for-AI Would I encounter any problems in AD? I see on the https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/full-feature-list/ that AI is included in importable file extensions but it says "Adobe® Illustrator® AI (containing PDF stream)" Not sure what the last bit means (PDF stream..?) I just wanna buy some cool brush sets on Creative Market! lol :P
  17. I'm a new user to Designer 1.8.3.641 and I have many .ai and EPS documents that have multiple layers and sub-layers. When I open any of these documents in Designer, the sub-layers are missing on both the layers panel and of course in the workspace screen. Am I doing something wrong here? The original doc's are AI CS2 files and some exported to .eps files.
  18. This feature is unparalleled and extremely powerful. redefines vector coloring. Affinity should do everything in its power to support this feature. @TonyB Learn more: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/gradients.html#create_apply_freeform_gradient
  19. Hallo affinity team, I still have a question about the Brushes: so far I have been working in Illustrator, and use the program for design drawings of bags and textiles. It is very helpful that with per brush I was able to create different zipper variants and chains as brushes, which are then available as vectorbrush. Hence my question: how can I import them into Affinity design or create them there? I send you a screenshot of the panel I usually use to create them there.
  20. I'm struggling to open this AI file from Adobe Stock. It shows Loading 1 document progress, but it never opens! I had to force quit the app. I wish I could attach the file, but it's not allowed. It also eats lot of memory! Could you please look into this?
  21. This topic may not be in the appropriate forum, but it is, I think germane to this app. Many competitors are beginning to introduce AI processing for various filters or plug ins that seem to work much better that the old ones that required oodles more time to achieve acceptable results. My question is simply if there is a future path on the horizon for Photo that has some AI features.
  22. The Affinity Quick Select Tool is quite good and I find that unlike the same tool in Photoshop CS6, Affinity QSelect will clear out fully closed areas of background (as between strands of hair). However there is room for improvement. For example Photoshop Elements 2020 (latest version of a competitor for Affinity Photo) now has an AI powered Quick Select Tool feature that is improved over the prior Quick Select for objects such as people. In the Edit mode simply clicking on a single Subject choice, P Elements, will generally select the person, or animal quite accurately in an image with a simple mostly solid background. With a more complex background the reliability is less good. A common error is failure with smaller areas, for example, such as the fully enclosed area between hands on hips. Topaz Labs has just recently released Mask AI and while the very first commercially available version had lots of problems, subsequent version have shown improvement. Mask AI comes up with the image painted with red (signifiying background) and the user must outline the object to be cut out with a blue transition marker. After filling the blue enclosed area with green marker (object area to be kept) pressing the process button starts the AI processing. Once again, when challenged with a object figure against a fairly uniform background, it tends to work well, however it takes a lot longer to prepare an image for processing than with Photoshop Elements 2020, which works with a single click. I and many other happy users of Affinity Photo, would very much love to have an improved Quick Select Tool, which probably means, one that is based on AI, since that technology appears to results in some amazingly capable competence. So this comment is simply to let everyone who is interested keep up to date with the latest technological advances and hope that Affinity Photo will also create improvements for this tool and do it even better than the competition. Thanks for listening, Dan
  23. Vectornator has an ability to convert its files into .ai through Creative Cloud. This is great feature for who work with who use Adobe. So why not implement this in Affinity Suite? Like auto-trace or Mac Version, Vectornator catching up Adobe/Corel/Serif day by day. I don't know who is investing to make it for FREE but they have plenty of capital for sure. Scary.
  24. I downloaded the trial version of Designer, I already have a PagePlus X9 license. When I open a pdf both programs text layers are often not recognized as text but as graphics. In this video https://affinity.serif.com/it/tutorials/designer/desktop/video/301604837 we see that the text is imported correctly. I opened a pdf file and ai file and in both cases the text was not recognized. This function is important for me, is it possible to solve the problem?
  25. Affinity community, I need your help! I'm fairly new to Affinity Designer and I'd like to use some brushes which are available throughout the web. While I have no problems importing afbrushes, it seems to be impossible to do the same with ai and eps. I could not find any working solution both in the Affinity help and the forum. Let me illustrate the problem with an example. I got a pack of brushes at this website and unzipped it on my MacBook. In AD, I tried to import the brushes, like always, by navigating to the brushes panel and clicking import brushes. If I click the button, I can move to the unzipped folder where I eventually see ai as well as eps brushes. But as you can see in the screenshot, the respective brushes are greyed out—no matter if in draw or pixel persona. On this page, Affinity says that one would be able to import both brushes. And if I open an eps brush by right clicking open with, AD opens them as you can see in the second screenshot. But then, I don't no what to do to use them as brushes. So I would be very happy, if you could help me to solve my problem/confusion. Besides the aforementioned problem: AD rocks! Cheers, Ali
