  1. I dont know if this was discussed before, i haven't found it... I want to talk about some kind of really simple panel for taking notes about your design project. Personally i work as a UI and Web designer, and i get most of the tasks to do in my email or within Red Mine service. So it feels distracting to switch from AD to email to read the task again and back to AD. It would be much better to keep majority of the info related to the project you are working on right in your design. I often copy and paste my task into AD as a layer, but this is not totally cool - it brings some disorder into layers and your design, and eats some time too so i thought some kind of panel for different notes would be really cool addition to AD's functionality. - So the one purpose of it is to keep your task copy there. - Also, if you want to remember something or to write down some stuff about your current project - you can do this simply and easily read the notes about the project right in the project file! Its especially handy if you have to leave the project for some time and then come back to it - you will not forget anything! - Sharing files becomes easier - you may leave some notes to the person who will work with your file later. - If you have to work a lot with text - you just paste all the text you need into this panel and store it there. When you design specific paragraph - you just copy needed text from the notes panel and place it in the design you are doing. Some super creative people will be using this panel to make old school ASCII art :-) As to functionality, it should be simple, work with plain text and have the ability to import or export plain text files, this should be enough. But any additional functionality is always welcome )
  2. Hi, I just wondered if there is a shortcut for selecting the eyedropper. I'm kind of used to the double click of a colour and then selecting another like in Adobe Illustrator. The behaviour in AD appears to be to click and drag on the eyedropper. It may be me but I find it a bit convoluted. Also is there a way to copy one object's style attributes and paste to another, rather than creating a style first and then clicking on it. I'll apologise now if I've missed something glaringly obvious, I usually do!
  3. Hi, I have an artwork originally created in Illustrator. Now I want to continue using it in AD, and on opening the file I saw the stroke was 1 pt, which was too fat. So I thought about reducing the strokes by selecting all and then go to stroke and set it to 0.7 pt. Which – at least on my machine – didn't work. So I had to select each line exclusively, resize stroke weight and than select the next line. Is there a quicker solution? Next change I'd like to realize is stroke style. Again, a repeating task, my goal is to set all strokes to the attached kind of style. Is there a way to create stroke styles that I then can apply to selected pieces of my art work? runtavomberg.ai
  4. I have several circles I wish to resize say all -5% or new sizes w x h 70mm x 70mm If it was text I can select all, then select the text tool and change the fonts, size, weight etc If I select all, I can resize by holding shift-cmd, but it is only the overall size of the selected group that is shown. Is there anyway I could somehow copy the size from one to another, like with paste style. I expect I have missed something Thanks mcl PS: Having learnt that an SVG file is text, is there an easy way to edit the SVG file ?
  5. I have not managed to find out how to change the corner value on multiple selected rectangles. Is it possible ? mcl
  6. Hi Folks, since I'm using Affinity designer to redesign our hole App-Icon Set I'm running i one problem. the basic file of the icon set is set with 96x96 pixels. If i create a shape in it, which leaves some parts of the file completly transparent over the full width or height of the file, these parts are cropped away. For example i've attached two icons, which are created in the same AD-Project-File with 96x96 pixels. The export results are different resoluted... Attachments Can anybody help me solving these issue? Thanks, Daniel
  7. When dealing with many layers or export elements, it would be great to be able to select/unselect a whole bunch of them at a time by clicking a check box then dragging up or down.
  8. This is absurdity! I will describe it briefly, because my English is bad. I wanted to merge objects (it was 31 objects) - it still takes longer than 10 minutes! I still waiting for effect ... I look to monitor activity, and there .. Check it screenshot. More than 26GB of memory usage?!?! My iMac Mini has 16GB. It's probably a bug or..? - how about that? When I finish this post it's now 20 minutes and still nothing. I guess I'll have to reset the AD. Any ideas? Btw, other programs and functions work flawlessly at that time. Cheers!
  9. Hello everyone; Please forgive me if this has been already discussed; I didn't found any information in the forums. I'm currently getting used to AD in order to slowly make it my default vector design app. There are of course some features I need that are not implemented yet, but also there's a couple of things I've not figured how to perform and don't know if it possible at this point. This is one: I've noticed that there's a clipping tool in AD, so I can select an object, click on the tool, and then adjust its borders to the desired size. However, this tool always acts as a rectangle. ¿Is there any functionality similar to the 'make clipping mask' in the other-software-I-don't-want-to-mention? Let's say, to make a circular cut, or whatever path you can imagine. Many thanks. And congratulations for your work! Val
  10. Hey, Im having an issue when opening a .AI file ( that was created in illustrator ) in Affinity Design. The original file was created at 72 PPI in Adobe Illustrator. When i open it in AD, the DIP is being set to 156. I have changed the DPI back down to 72. However the whole file is essentially double the resolution/pixel that it is in illustrator. Im very new to AD so it could be something iv just set up wrong, but i cannot for the life in me work it out. I have attached a couple of screenshots to show the size difference between the two programs Any help is much appreciated Cheers Ben
  11. Hi All, I am a new user here. Really love the AD and amazed by its feature and speed. However, I just found out the clipping mask with gradient effect I made in AD were pixelated after export in .eps and .pdf file. I didn't check "Rasterise unsupported effects" but the result is just disappointing. The original file in AD looks sharp when zoomed in, but not the case in AI and PDF. Can anyone help me here? thanks! AI AD test.afdesign
  12. Hey all, I posted in the megathread for the beta the other day but didn't seem to get a response. For whatever reason, I can't seem to export files AT ALL. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. I'm not sure why this issue is occurring and I've been trying my best to figure out a fix but I can't seem to work out a consistent resolution. Let me know what the deal is, it's driving me bonkers! I've included a screenshot of what happens whenever I attempt to export anything at all. I've tried closing/re-opening, deleting/re-installing etc to no avail.
  13. Firstly, let me start by saying two enormous positives about your Gaussian Blur: 1. It's a fucking sexy blur. And the Preserve Edges feature being right there.. THANK YOU!!!! 2. The logarithmic scaling (or whatever it is) you have is damn near perfect. Now, the problem. If working with a big image, the fact that it's constantly trying to update, live, becomes a little problematic because it reduces the accuracy a user can find/feel/flow to with the slider. There are two solutions. Adobe's way: Which is to put in a slight delay after any and all slider moment before attempting to do the blurring. Affinity's way, + a Shortcut to temporarily restrain the Live Update of the Blur processing, at which point it behaves like Adobe's, with a little extra time before attempting to blur. Perhaps 0.25 of a second more delay. Might only need to be 0.1 or 0.2 of a second. Won't know until we feel it. Now, where to put such a shortcut? I strongly suggest the CapsLOCK key, as this is what's used in After Effects to "power down" live updates, and it makes nearly perfect sense, because it can be activated and then deactivated, and the signal can be received by the app.
  14. Seems to me that if you added the ability to control a mask's transforms without impacting it's content's transform, you'd have the same functionality as the Crop Tool is to the Draw Persona, with one huge advantage: There'd no longer be the conflicting conventions of Masking being represented as happening above a Layer (and the layer coming through the mask) vs Cropping (as it is now) being presented as something happening "beneath" the layer, when it's actually operating much like a mask in that it's sitting above and preventing content outside of itself from being seen. So how to do this with Masking? It looks like the [alt/option] key is going unused when editing the transforms of a Mask (Size, Scale, Rotation) ... except for position, in which case it is being used, for duplicate functionality. Almost a perfect solution, but not quite. Perhaps... I have the solution! Right now, [command + drag] is also doing duplication of an object. Leave that, and give up the [alt + drag] to mask editing independent of content and the problem is 100% solved.
  15. Hi all, I just been looking in the Adobe forum and this is what I found: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6813810#6813810 and the other posts... I snapped up Affinity Designer the other day after watching their promotional video. So far, it well lives up to its promises and is as well-behaved as any software out there, legacy or not. Serif is a company to watch. I'm sure their photo editing and page layout software will be equally good as Affinity Designer. A new paradigm is upon us all... I was also a big fan of FreeHand but I always hated Illustrator. Recently I have spent a lot of time on iDraw and really enjoy it. One advantage it has over Illustrator is that you can exchange files between iPad and Mac. Affinity Designer also looks interesting and I hope to give that a try as well. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Affinity Designer is very interesting and is an easy replacement for Illustrator to me. I am so glad someone suggested that. #1 paid app in the Mac App Store! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are using a Mac, you could always download the currently free beta of Serif's Affinity Designer and see if it will meet your needs in the future. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/ I think they intend on selling it for something around $30 or so once the beta is over. It is still beta, there is still work to be done. The ripples are growing and the next wave of customers will come over like a tsunami ...Roll on Publisher and Photo in 2015. Well done everyone. We can do it. We are doing it.
