Thanks so much!! Just a quick look around and I am already being helped out. I do have to comment (positively) about the fonts, Postscript Type 1! Yay, try that in that other program!! I really think that is one thing that makes me happy to use Publisher even with it's little issues, Pantone Libraries and Type 1 fonts!!

More fixes will be made during the 2.4 beta cycle.

We're aware of an issue in V2.2 and above that will cause text, using a PostScript (Type 1) font, to be converted to curves when exported to PDF. This is currently logged with our developers but a workaround would be to use a similar or alternative non-PostScript (Type 1) font for the affected text elements. We're sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

I'm not sure were we got the font, it was in the font library on the machine that I inherited from a colleague. Its a Postscript Type 1 font if that has anything to do with it. Does the Miller Display Font you have display correctly?

How many fonts do you have? Is it hundreds or thousands? Be aware that Affinity cannot use Variable or Colour fonts. To the best of my knowledge fonts stored on the internet (or perhaps even any network) may not work with Affinity. Finally old PostScript type one fonts are a problem as well.

ACaslonPro-Italic and Adobe Caslon Pro are probably old conversions from PostScript Type 1 fonts (or actually are old Type 1 fonts). And thus have limited character sets and features. So you can use Find & Replace to permanently replace those fonts with the other Caslon fonts you do have.

Hi @medias, So it looks as though the version of Garamond used in your test.pdf may be the Type 1 Postscript version... If you right-click one of them, e.g., AGarReg and select 'Get Info' could you upload a screenshot showing the 'General' section (at the top) of the Get Info window? The Unix, 'Exec' logo means the files don't have an extension... Old legacy Mac TrueType fonts (from OS 9 and earlier) and all printer outlines of Type 1 PostScript fonts display that way in macOS... Unless you have a specific need to keep the Type 1 Postscript versions of both fonts you may want to remove these to avoid any potential font conflict issues... In theory, if you temporarily disable or remove the old Type 1 Postscript versions of both fonts in Font Book, then re-open your Publisher file and ensure your file uses the TrueType version of FoundryJournal and the OpenType version of Adobe Garamond and then re-export your file as a PDF from Publisher v2, are both fonts then selectable?

PDFlib 10.0.0 has seemingly deprecated support for Type 1 fonts though Section 6.1.5 in the PDFlib manual is (to me) a little ambiguous because, on the one hand, they're saying 'Support for Post Type 1 fonts is deprecated' but they then go on to say PDFlib supports ARM, PFM, PFA and PFB Postscript Type 1 fonts (unless I'm reading this incorrectly)... The version of Adobe Garamond Pro used in your file which is a Type 1 font is selectable as you pointed out and I'm assuming that the version of Foundry Journal is also a Type 1 font as well? I've just exported a file from both Publisher 1.10.6 and 2.2.1 using a PostScript Type 1 version of Garamond Pro and the version exported from 1.10.6 is selectable, the version exported from 2.2.1 is not selectable in Acrobat Reader because it gets outlined on export so this would seem to confirm that the PDFlib update in v2.2 is indeed the cause but... Could you confirm the following: The file extension used by both fonts Which version of macOS you're using Which Font Management software you're using

I see the same with your PDF file — here, in AP as well as in APub — but I can't reproduce it with a new file. I suspect it could be related to the fact the fonts you used are Type 1/Postscript fonts (a deprecated font format, now replaced by OpenType fonts) — but yet I can't reproduce this bug using another Type 1 font I have on hand… 🤔 Can you share the .afpub you used?

What/where did you try? Did you choose to add a network printer by specifying its IP address? This option wants you first to type a name for your printer, then it will allow you to choose a specific printer driver file from your disk. >> Add a network printer by specifying its IP address – (…) use: Display the appropriate software for the printer. If you don’t see software for your printer, choose Select Software, then select your printer in the Printer Software list. If the Printer Software list doesn’t include your printer, try downloading and installing the printer software (also called a printer driver) from the printer manufacturer. Hi @Beat_A, I found a Truetype version of Times Ten which remains selectable when exported to PDF (see attached rough and ready mocked-up file), so I think it may be possible to substitute the Postscript Type 1 version, but ultimately as @thomaso has highlighted, Type 1 Postscript support is effectively dead so anyone using them is going to need to think about updating them to an alternative version of the same font or consider an alternative font altogether... Thanks for quick response. I've managed to locate some OTF versions of the same font to replace the Postscript Type 1 fonts. I only use the 4 weights (regular, italic, bold, bold italic) and with the limited testing it seems the fonts match perfectly. I'll hold off on signing up for Beta release, and wait for the public release. Hopefully it won't affect my other fonts (others seemingly work just fine). 🙂

I have downloaded a Truetype version of Frutiger now, and that seems to work OK. I will have a bit of updating to do on my regular jobs applying new or different fonts. I had made up a basic document using 2.2.2.1 and a Postscript type 1 Gill Sans font, and the issue is still there (attached). Looking at the info page on an to earlier PDF when the text was selectable etc, it was created by version 2.2.1.1. (see attached screenshot, left side). The right side shows the attached basic test file done just now. Something is different in the encoding software, but that might be the October Mac OS update? Attached is a page from that earlier PDF if that is any help. Does the latest Affinity Designer allow the use of Postscript (Type 1) fonts on a desktop Mac running OSX 13.5, via Celartem’s Suitcase Fusion? (As of this year, Adobe software does not, notoriously.)

Hi @Peter Cusworth, Postscript Type 1 fonts are still supported so I don't think that is the issue and likewise macOS 12.7.1 won't be the issue, I'm running 12.6.8... I have to say I'm slightly baffled as to the possible cause especially since it appears to be affecting more than just the version of Frutiger you are using... Could you possibly create a simple Publisher document in both 2.1.1 and 2.2.0 which just includes some basic text, Lorem Ipsum, Filler Text or just type the characters A to Z in upper and lowercase and the numbers 0 through 9 and the standard punctuation marks and then export to PDF (labelled accordingly) using the settings you have been using so we have a PDF from both versions of Publisher as it may provide some clues as to what is going on.

Thanks for looking at this again. Both of your PDF exports open on my system with selectable and searchable text. Yes, sorry – that Arial sample file I sent is the one I'd tried several fonts with and forgot to change back to Arial before I sent it. I am using the standard Mac Font Book for font management. It doesn't show any issue with Frutiger or the other fonts I tried. I only have one version of Frutiger installed. Maybe I will try uninstalling, or even sourcing a new copy of that font to try. I have had these fonts for many years. Still, it is strange that I didn't have this issue on the older version of Publisher, but otherwise, it looks to be a font issue with my computer. The Frutiger font is an Adobe postscript Type 1 font. Is there a particular type of font that is best to use with this software these days? I don't think I have any variable fonts, although my Arial is an OpenType, but that worked OK. I am running Mac OS 12.7.1 which I notice was last updated in October. Maybe that is the change affecting my fonts and not the Publisher update? Thanks again for your help. I will try some other fonts and see if I can work out a solution. Peter

As far I read both your linked articles they do not announce a general "discontinuation of Postscript" in macOS but rather describe modifications for the workflow when handling Postscript with the Apple Preview.app only, initiated by possible security issues in postscript. Concerning Type 1 postscript fonts it might be a different issue since fonts in general require handling separate from a page description language or script like postscript or html. As far I understand those fonts will lose support not because of being postscript but in their lack of OpenType features.
