People have requested an equivalent post for the fixes in 2.0.0 to 2.0.4 2.0.x Bug Fixes This post covers the main bug fixes that are included in 2.0.4. The bug fixes are organised by operating system. (A) Bug fixes which affected all platforms Add Boolean operation slowdown/hang system. Force quit needed to close Affinity. Hi @Andrewfo, Thanks for sending the file over, although I'm not experiencing any app hangs or crashes when changing anything with regard to your existing text frames, as many of them already overflow if I continue to to type this works as expected and I can freely re-flow the frames without any problems, this in on 2.3.1 on both MacOS and Windows. Is there a specific text frame on the document that causes this? Since I've not been able to replicate so far could you possibly provide a screen recording which demonstrates this crash occurring along with a crash report file? Screen recording help: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/102618 Where to find crash reports: Is this not related to the line spacing option you have set on a text passage in word? For example, In Word if in the line spacing options if I set the spacing to be exactly 13.8pt and then copy and paste the paragraph into Publisher, this creates a text frame with a leading value of 13.8, if I change this exact value in Word to another value like 13.4pt and then copy/paste again into Publisher, the leading value is honoured at exactly 13.4pt. When copying/pasting from word/text files the pasted contents in Publisher will import as a text frame, but I don't believe that any images on the word doc are included. Alternatively, you could file > Place the word doc in which will create a text frame, and it will also import any images as pinned objects. Unless you mean something different by graphics?

Hi Affinity Team, after repeating the same crash like three times, I recon it's time to share it with you. I'm working on M1 Mac mini with Sonoma 14.2.1 on it, Affinity Publisher 2.3.1. Steps to reproduce the crash: Open the file. Go to page 374. Select the Latin text (left column) from AD LAUDES to ... well, it varies. I wanted to copy the entire feast of Nativity, i.e. from AD LAUDES to a third Antiphon (Aña.) on page 378, but sometimes it crashes even before that. It crashes just by selecting the text, nothing else needs to be done. Once I was able to select the text and even copy & paste it, only to have the program crash on me doing the same with the Czech text in the right column. Thanks for taking care for this, I think I don't need to tell you, how bloody annoying is to have the program repeatedly crash, reopen all the documents I need for my work, because - and this might be a good idea to fix too - it doesn't reopen all the bloody documents, so I need to bloody do it manually, although my settings say otherwise! Hi @GavinEadie, Unfortunately thus far in my tests I've not been able to re-produce a problem by following the steps provided on my machine, so it's likely going to be quite difficult to pinpoint and therefore log particularly with the info that's available. By default Metal/Hardware Acceleration is turned on, but it may also be worth toggling this off in Preferences > Performance if the problem can be re-produced. App hangs don't typically generate a .crash file in console, but if you are able to re-produce an app hang in any similar circumstance in the future you could try logging the app events to the console, but this is dependant on it being re-produced again to set up the console log: 1. Close down all background applications running on the Mac and close all Affinity apps 2. Open the Mac Console app and select your Mac name from the 'Devices' list on the sidebar 3. Press 'Start' along the top and it will start continuously logging messages 4. Start Affinity Photo 2 and make a note of the specific time you started the app (this makes it easier for us to track in the log) 5. Go through your workflow 6. When the app hangs, make a note of the specific time of the freeze and open the Console app again and press 'Pause' 7. Press CMD + A to highlight the entire log and CMD + C to copy it 8. Paste the copied log contents into a text editor, such as TextEdit or Pages and save a copy of the file.

Multiple crashes on a small file (6 pages). Trying to copy and paste content from Pages into running text boxes (4 pages). Publisher will crash if you cut or copy and paste an index reference for an index topic that has a cross-reference. In this text document, place the cursor at the start of the frame and Shift + Right Arrow to select the single index reference mark for Apples which has a cross-reference to Fruit. Hi, I created all of the sidebar tips as sidenotes, not with the pinning feature. I tried to do it with pinning as @thomaso showed but there was a bug at the time with pinned text frames that had independent baseline grid set. It doesn't matter in the version of the manual you've seen, but the original template had a 2-column body with the text aligned to the document's baseline grid, and the tips in the sidebar with smaller type ignored the document's baseline grid. That bug is fixed now and in any case I quickly switched to a simpler layout. @walt.farrell is the one who suggested using sidenotes to me and I think they work better for tips in the margins of the document so I recommend them. The key is that I set In Main Text > Number Text to # while editing, and I set In Note Body > Number Text to blank. Just before exporting I have to change the former to blank so that you don't see the # sign in the exported PDF. I chose # because it's wide enough to see, especially with Highlight Fields turned on, and because I need something so I can cut, copy, and paste them around the document. I originally tried to insert "Tips: " and "Definition: " into the In Note Body > Number Text field and assign the red and blue colours automatically with my Tips and Definition character styles. I do NOT recommend that approach unless every sidenote will be identical. Publisher has a great note feature but the big flaw is that it has one preset named Document-Widw for the majority of your notes and then custom notes for the rest. I set Document-Wide for Tips since they were most of the sidenotes and created the Definition ones as custom. But if you switch one to Custom, the next one you create will also be Custom. I was always messing up. And I ran into a serious crash bug that I believe still isn't fixed with trying to convert notes from custom to document-wide. Then when I went to export the first version and had to replace # with blank, I found I could only do that for the document-wide ones and I had to fix all of the custom ones manually - there were a few # signs in the first version I shared. I gave up and deleted all the custom ones and made them all document wide - I now type and format the Tips and Definitions text manually. But it turned out this was actually easier - I never ever click the Add Note button any more - it's just so much easier to find another Tip or Definition and copy and paste its # reference mark. Hi Callum, I have made multiple changes to the file on my end as it is an active project and I deleted the stuff that I sent you folks as I figured I wouldn't need it anymore. My workaround was to turn off auto-hyphenation. I then was able to select and overwrite the text I was replacing. Once I did my paste, I turned auto-hyphenation back on and all was well. I use only a single monitor, which is the laptop screen on my Asus Tuf506IU. I can tell you 100% that the auto-hyphenation is what caused the issue on my end. I could make it crash every time, regardless of my zoom level. Hopefully, that tidbit can help someone else if they run into this. I had hoped the main file and the crash dumps would be enough to help. From my side, I have worked around the issue, so no need to keep a support ticket open or anything like that. One question for future reference, are there CLI flags or a JSON config file that I can adjust to enable more verbose logging? I would be happy to do that if I run across this or some other problem in the future.

Hi @Oliver S., I see an instant crash when attempting to open Bd_2_ocr.pdf in Publisher v1.10.8, v2.0.4 and v2.3.0. This is also why you're not seeing the options @walt.farrell shows in his screengrab, the file is crashing Publisher before the PDF Options window appears. The scanning is a bit silly as the pages could have been cropped though that is easy enough to do in Publisher or Apple Preview. Here is the converted version which opens quite happily in Publisher... If you need it in a different PDF version then simply set -dCompatibilityLevel=1.7 accordingly, e.g., to -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 You can likewise remove redundant pages using the command line rather than doing so in Publisher which would reduce the file size further. On a side note, you will notice that because the book wasn't perfectly straight when scanned the invisible OCR text layer is broken into small chunks on some pages meaning it's difficult to copy and paste the text if that is the intention... If you happen to have an iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or later you will find Live Text is extremely helpful as it allows you to copy the text for entire pages and paste it as live, fully editable text in a new document. HOW I STOPPED AFFINITY PUBLISHER FROM CRASHING Bottom Line Up Front - there was some conflict in the file that I was editing that caused AP to crash about 10 seconds after opening it. I created a new document and created new master pages and the crashing stopped (for now). Explanation and background - I had created some master pages, text styles and had written a lot of content. After several months away from the project, I returned and did some editing and work: some format changes; new text styles; some copy editing. I then saved everything and shut down my computer. The following day I opened up the file, let's call it TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 1, and it began crashing. This had happened before and a search on the internet revealed that it was not an uncommon problem. My Solution that has worked (so far) - Because I had copied TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 1 and then edited it as another chapter, let's call the second file TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 2, I now had two files that originated from the same source. When I found that TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 1 and TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 2 were both crashing, the only thing I could assume was that there was some bug in the original TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 1 file, which remained with the copied file that became TEXTBOOK CHAPTER 2. So both files were corrupt! SOLUTION: Here's what I did: 1. I turned of the hardware accelerator which was a suggestion someone else posted. (Go to Edit>Settings>Performance, then untick/uncheck the "*Hardware Acceleration: Enable OpenCL compute acceleration" check box and then restart the computer) 2. I created a new document and created new master pages. 3. I have been working now for over an hour and not a single crash... HOWEVER! I want to cut and paste the content from the corrupt files into the new master pages so I'm going to export them to a Word Document and then import them into the new files. Sort of like laundering the files through Word. (WORD!) This solution may not work for everybody, and I might find that the crashing may recommence... but the last hour has been crash free, but the hour prior to my solution being created, I had over 20 crashes! Thanks Chris, here are the different configurations of the Performance settings, also a bit more detail on crash circumstances: 1. DIsabled Open CL = Stable operation --- 2. Enabled Open CL on RTX3060 = Unstable operation Crash first time opening the image Second open was ok. Using Patch was ok, but clicking on adjustments/levels with one of two layers (created by frequency separation) selected, results in crash. Crash means Photo simply disappeared, and is gone from Task Manager. --- 3. Enabled Open CL on RTX2060 = Unstable operation Crash first time opening the image. Second open was ok. Using patch ok on one layer, but switching to the other layer caused a crash. Opened image a third time, using patch was ok, creating one adjustment layer ok, but while working on a second adjustment layer results in a crash. Also noticeable is if Open CL is enabled with either GPU it introduces a couple of seconds freeze when you finish a patch operation, and the Photo window menu bar flashes white before the patch is finalised. This is on the occasions that it didn't crash. Disabling Open CL when using patch gives no freeze or menu bar flash, and no crash. Overall, OpenCL enabled = unstable operation with frequent crashes. Also: Using Designer 2.0.4 (haven't installed 2.1 yet) with the RTX3060 and Open CL enabled appears to be stable in short time I tested it with a 20 layer drawing - moving layers around, doing layer adjustments, bezier lines, stretching, text, bitmap copy and paste. No freezes or crashes.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I haven't heard of a problem like this before and I can't duplicate it myself with 2.2.0 on Ventura on an M1 Pro. The problem isn't actually related to the index, is it? It's just selecting a range of text that spans the bottom of one page to the top of the next? I tried drag selecting a range of text link that when I was zoomed out and could see the bottom of the first frame and the top of the second at the same time, and also when zoomed in which required Publisher to autoscroll. Serif will want to see a crash report. Open the Console app from Applications > Utilities. In the left panel, click Crash Reports. Find the relevant one in the list on the right, its name will include the Affinity app name and have an appropriate timestamp. Right-click and choose Reveal in Finder. Copy and paste the .crash file into your reply here. Good luck.

I really, really wanted these fixes to work. For I love using the Affinity programs and have no desire to switch to anything else. I would be perfectly happy to find that it was/is my system that is the culprit, rather than Affinity. Alas... I performed every step you suggested, save for the Windows update, for Microsoft reports that I am indeed up to date. I just opened Publisher (EXE) and then the document (a newsletter) I began yesterday. Everything OK so far. So as to paste some word processor text into a text frame, I right-clicked to bring up the context menu. Crash (no menu displayed; just disappeared). I repeated steps 2 and 3, above. Crash. Mind you, all of the above steps were preceded by two reboots.

Just a thought: Perhaps the right-click crashing has something to do with the content in the Clipboard. The content each time the program crashed was word processor text. Today, however, I have been working on an anniversary card. I had placed four pix on the page 1 layout board and wanted to move them all to page 2. I selected the four images, right-clicked, and selected Paste without incident. But when the Clipboard contained simple text, just right-clicking would crash the program. (Nothing wrong with the text; using CTRL-V it was placed without issue.)
