  1. Now...THAT's a tree! I just love Nature.
  2. I waited all summer to catch this female of natural aviation at the lunch counter getting her fill up. I'm glad Affinity Photo was there when the waiting was over.
  3. Hi, I have been designing new 'Nature' brushes in Affinity Photo so that I can create nature scenes, micro worlds and greeting card designs. Its only a 'rough'; needs a bit of work... I have been using Affinity Photo for a while now - ever since Adobe decided that they were going to force their users to 'RENT' their software and that they are no longer interested in lowly individual designers, they are only interested in large corporate accounts. So I switched to Affinity Photo/Designer. And I am SO GLAD that I did. They are awesome! I also have been using CorelDraw and Corel Painter for many years (longer than I used Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign). I started using CorelDraw with version 5, and Painter when it was owned by Fractal Design, also version 5. I can remember opening CorelDraw when I first purchased it and just staring at all the tools and the blank page. Previously I had only used Word. I tried to type something. Nothing. So I closed it. I kept opening it up and just looking in awe at the tools, then finally I read some of the manual, checked out the Help files and figured it out. This started my interest in digital design. Later, I became a Graphic Designer and worked for nearly 20 years at Deutsche Bank doing cover design, Powerpoint template design, redrawing logos and maps, animation and so much more. There is a whole hidden industry of design, 'Presentation Design' and 'Presentation Specialist' jobs and you can get into this market if you use Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Its a great place to start your design career. Not only London, but all over the globe - Sydney, Australia, New York, Paris, Frankfurt... anywhere large corporations have a 'Presentations' department. Check out the job opportunities by typing 'Presentations Design' in Google. Create a portfolio. And if your portfolio is good, they will train you. I usually use Painter to create my greetings cards and have hundreds of Painter brushes - gold, jewels, silver, glass, diamonds, pearls, satins and silk brushes, and, of course, hundreds of 'Nature' brushes. This is the first one I have done using Affinity Photo. It has taken me a long time to create all the brushes of stones, rocks, rock faces, trees, lichen, toadstools, twisted branches, moss, ferns and to adjust the brush settings just to begin painting with them. Hope you like it... Del Hope you like it...
  4. I am new one and probably my work is not perfect. I just try what all i can do or not with affinity.
  5. SUNRISE - Hilo Bay, Hawaii Oct.9,2023 (06:15AM Hawaiian Time) Picture take with iPhone 13, Adjustments: ('Live Denoise', Luminance 45%), ('Levels' boost Blacks 13%, Whites 81%) Strictly an amateur photog but the 'fire' in the clouds are done by Mother Nature.
  6. Hi guys, I just made this brushes 2 days ago. Here's the link if you want to download it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19yzrVPnG8VIdnJzcJsHqzf8Hi6ALiIww/view?usp=sharing You can also check out the video below to see how I use these brushes. Hope you like it, thank you!
  7. Normally, I'm not one to mess about with my own photos in an editorial sense but, after I captured this I though I would try and . . .erm . . . improve it?
  9. Hi, I have been trying to create some atmosphere in a concept art piece of two towers rising up out of the mist in a valley filled with lush vegetation. I used Affinity Photo to create it, painting much of it with the free 'Atmosphere' and 'Nature' brushes I uploaded on the Affinity Forum (plus some other brushes) to create it (links below). I am fascinated by the matte painting technique used by digital artists for all the main film studios to create a visualisation of important scenes that will go into the finished film. Films and series like Vikings, Alien, Dune, Mary Poppins, Ghostbusters, Titanic, Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, the Jurassic Park series of films... and the new 'Rendezvous with Rama' that is (hopefully) in production. All of 'em, really... This is from Wikipedia: "A matte painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not present at the filming location." If you are interested in matte painting or concept art check out the following links. There are lots of tutorials too: https://conceptartempire.com/concept-art-tutorials/ https://conceptartworld.com/category/training/ Introduction to Matte Painting Free 'Nature' brushes link (also includes a Word document on how to create your own brushes): Free 'Atmosphere' brushes link:
  10. I created this back in Dec 2021, but forgot to post it... Christmas Card 2021 that I created in Affinity Photo using the 'Nature' brushes, with the help of a few animals and birds... 🙂 DelN CMYK for Print RGB for Screen
  11. I have just finished 'Mountains in the Mist', which I did in Affinity Photo using the free 'Nature' and 'Atmosphere' brushes (plus a few images and other brushes). I have uploaded too a numbered set of JPG images from the first background sky layer 01_ to the last _FINAL so (if anyone is interested 😄) you can see how I created it.
  12. A tangle of pipes, steel girders and ladders around the decommissioned blast furnaces, with nature resurgent in between. Duisburg Landscape Park around a disused ironworks in Duisburg-Meiderich, popularly known as LaPaDu. Developed from Raw with DxO Photolab and Postprocessing done with Affinity Photo 1.10.5 PS: On Monday morning, filming of the Hollywood production "The Tributes of Panem - The Song of the Bird and the Serpent" started in Duisburg's Landschaftspark.
  13. The most memorable thing when I traveled to Australia is the moment I met the sleepyhead Koala. The Koala was sleeping in a very cute pose stuck in a branch, and it was loved by many visitors. I really wanted to bring the Koala to Korea where I live. So with good memory about Koala, I started working on this photo manipulation with affinity photo. When we meet Koalas in nature, I don't think they are threatening at all. Even if it is very huge size, I think we will be able to watch it comfortably because it sleeps all day. I have that kind of good feeling about Koalas and I want to share this feeling from my photo manipulation artwork. "Meet The Giant Sleepyhead" speed art : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85SS1gE_DR0
  14. From looking at some of the wildlife & landscape pictures in this forum there is no doubt that there are many talented photographers here but I find myself no better off in my use of Affinity Photo just by looking at these stunning pictures. To be honest I could find the same sort of pictures just by using Google. What would be nice is if the people uploading these pictures could supply a before and after picture and detail the steps used in Affinity Photo to get to the final results. That way I am sure mine and others use of AP to create these stunning photos could be greatly improved. Isn't that what forums like these are all about? Or am I missing the point and is it that professional photographers would rather not reveal their workflow in fear of increasing the competition in their chosen profession. Honest answers appriciated
  15. Hi everyone. I haven't been very active photographically wise but I'll try to change that. I went in the woods a few days ago and I wanted to try my new Tamron 70-200mm G2 lens. So I found this small toad (I love landscape and wildlife photography) and tried to photograph it (I used my 70-200mm Tamron lens). It's not the best photo of a toad but I'm still satified with it. Let me know what you think because I still like getting advices from better photographers. Here's what I did on this photo. I played with the basic settings in the develop persona (exposure, noise reduction, clarity, etc). Because some elements were in focus and disturbing the eye away from the toad, I used a dept of field blur tool and I made sure to put the center of the tool on the eye of the toad. I changed the exposure of the background with the help of a gradiant tool. Added signature.
  16. Just bought Affinity Photo from the Black Friday Sale - really enjoyed trying it out with the lockdown trial. Been experimenting with some of the brushes I got in the BF sale., working on an idea for a fanzine inspired by The Beach Boys song Angel Come Home. Gold Photo painted over mostly using Frankentoon Neptune & DAUB Watercolours & Washes brushes and multiple layers. Blue - flattened gold image painted over with various brushes (mostly from Frankentoon Nature, but I installed Xenon & Powder Blast brushes at the same time so prob also used some of them) Original photo - paper angel on a Hawaiian shirt napkin background. (Photo of Dennis Wilson is one I found online, taken by Ebet Roberts. Wings are from digital scrapbooking kit Broken Wings {elements} by Little Butterfly Wings. Napkins were from Tescos 😀 )
  17. The base picture came from one of my many nature walks, and with a bit of imagination I tried to create a fairy tale type picture. Yes I know. . .I'm out there! 😀
  18. This is my first Pine Grosbeak taken using a new Jobu gimbal with my Nikon D800e + Sigma 150-600 S combo. The gimbal makes it a joy to shoot fast moving wildlife.
  19. • These may just well prove my perversions to get close, trying to observe and discover more, see better… always closer. As I said before, I am not a birder. I'm just a photographer who likes to see how light is revealing (in this case, through swans) Mother Nature's "nature". A simple and commun bird under Her light turns into a sculpture, a magnificent visual pleasure, an eye candy… to me! I don't have the words in English, so I will show you what I mean… C&C welcome… as always! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
  20. I seldom use B&W for nature photos, but, in this case, like the result. After receiving a tip that a pair of nesting ospreys had taken up residence atop a telephone pole beside a busy local highway, I managed to capture a few images. After conversion to B&W, I adjusted the individual tone curves to blacken the blue sky and produce a range of grey tones. Applied a bit of contrast and sharpening for the final result.
  21. Hi All, We’re getting ready to launch the version 1.6 updates of Affinity Photo and Designer and we need your help! To support all the marketing we do – web pages, videos, social media posts or in-app samples – it’s great to have photos and artwork which our users have created to show off the capability of our apps. So, we wanted to reach out to you to ask if you have any fantastic work you would be happy for us to use in this way. In addition to forming part of the publicity campaign to promote the possibilities of our apps to new users, you’ll receive a fee of US$300 to license each piece we use. For our Affinity Photo marketing we mostly need incredible photos of any subject matter - landscapes, model shots, nature, architecture, weddings, sports, automotive, etc. Also any work which utilises focus stacking, HDR, panorama stitching, 360 images or full multi-layered compositions would be great too. For Affinity Designer we need any work created in the app – illustrations, web / app mock ups, icons, logos, print projects, paintings, etc. To get an idea of what we have used before, check out our website (affinity.serif.com) or the latest product videos: AFFINITY PHOTO VIDEO AFFINITY DESIGNER VIDEO If you have created anything you think might be suitable, and as long as you are the copyright owner and hold all the rights to license the work to us, then please get in touch. You can send your photos or designs to consider to affinityart@serif.com. A flattened PNG or JPG (or a link if you have a gallery on Behance, etc.) is fine at this stage, though if you’re successful we’ll ultimately need the full res image or Affinity file. Please keep your initial submission down to a maximum of five files but by all means let us know if have more. The closing date for submissions is 25th August 2017. If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask us on affinityart@serif.com. We look forward to checking out your work! Thanks, Ash
  22. • I spent three hours, in the early afternoon, shooting corporate portraits of a new management team put in place after a very hostile takeover by some american interests. Sure, I was doing the right thing (it did cost them dearly!) but I didn't feel so happy with this bunch of proud, superficial, in- fatuated, cold, and arrogant executives and managers. The job was well done and very well paid… but I had to put my "soul" at ease and, to wash away the bitter feelings, I know nothing that beats a visit to the close by marsh. Specially today, as it was the first snow! Mother Nature treated me well —maybe She felt how I needed Her to cheer me up— and surprised me… as usual! This was a delicious moment and I would like to share with you Her beauty and kindness… In one of the takes, a Kingfisher is perched… can you spot it? Have a look, have a good time… C&C welcomed! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 What, a shy snow you say? This is south Austria… not Canada! :P :D :P :D :P Sure, I did shoot some birds but that's the following thread… be patient… here is the link: Tip: the Kingfisher is in picture 8 Part 2, with Egret ballet, is here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/27703-no-ap-2-•-birds-in-first-snow-—picture-heavy/
