  1. On Mac, Affinity apps simply offer the OS which file types they are capable of opening. The OS then apparently picks the newest version of an app, based on the file type list in /Applications/Affinity Photo 2.app/Contents/Info.plist (for example): <dict> <key>CFBundleTypeExtensions</key> <array> <string>afdesign</string> <string>afpub</string> <string>affinity_photo</string> <string>affinity_designer</string> <string>persona</string> <string>affinity</string> <string>psd</string> <string>psb</string> <string>svg</string> <string>jpg</string> <string>jpeg</string> <string>jpegxr</string> <string>jxr</string> <string>j2k</string> <string>jp2</string> <string>jxl</string> <string>png</string> <string>wdp</string> <string>hdp</string> <string>tiff</string> <string>tif</string> <string>gif</string> <string>webp</string> <string>lfp</string> <string>eps</string> <string>ps</string> <string>pdf</string> <string>ai</string> <string>fh11</string> <string>fh10</string> <string>bmp</string> <string>exr</string> <string>hdr</string> <string>crw</string> <string>cr2</string> <string>cr3</string> <string>nef</string> <string>pef</string> <string>raf</string> <string>dng</string> <string>mos</string> <string>kdc</string> <string>dcr</string> <string>arw</string> <string>nrw</string> <string>3fr</string> <string>ari</string> <string>srf</string> <string>sr2</string> <string>bay</string> <string>cap</string> <string>iiq</string> <string>dcs</string> <string>drf</string> <string>k25</string> <string>erf</string> <string>fff</string> <string>mef</string> <string>mdc</string> <string>mrw</string> <string>orf</string> <string>ptx</string> <string>pxn</string> <string>r3d</string> <string>raw</string> <string>rw2</string> <string>rwl</string> <string>srw</string> <string>x3f</string> <string>afmigrate</string> <string>afsignal</string> <string>abr</string> <string>tga</string> <string>afextensiondocument</string> <string>heic</string> <string>gpr</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key> <string>PhotoDocIcon</string> <key>CFBundleTypeName</key> <string>Affinity Openable</string> <key>CFBundleTypeRole</key> <string>Editor</string> <key>LSHandlerRank</key> <string>Alternate</string> </dict>
  2. I'm new to Affinity photo, and more in depth photo editing entirely for that matter. I'm having an issue with the HSL adjustment not showing the full wheel, only the blue spectrum quarter (see the attached image). I've tried applying the layer from the different menus and always have the same problem and cannot find a way to change the HSL adjustment window layout. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated (I'm running Affinity photo on a Mac, if that makes any difference)! Screenshot 2020-05-18 at 16.42.05.jp2
  3. Issue solved, thank you all for the super fast and deep analysis!!! my export options were the default digital-small size with no altered options was tested in PDF Xchange Viewer, WPS, and Acrobat Reader did so for future reference, I upload the original my first "erroneous" attempt, and a second version with PDFs including layers @Hangman before posting this topic I read your answer to another, similar topic. Now, + @lacerto it is much more clear to me how "Layers" work. ("3rd degree" test?! - respect!) Thank you ALL! jp1.afdesign jp1.pdf jp2.afdesign jp2.pdf
  4. Odd. For me the plugin & app are completely independent of one another. In fact, I did not open the app until I had played around with the plugin for an hour or two. So far, the only problem I have found with it is the app version chokes when I try to open a jp2 file with it. Other than that & the less than user friendly UI, the only issue I have seen with either is it can be slow to apply a filter, but not more than 1-3 seconds so not too bad.
  5. Hi, I ran unto an odd Bug. Jpeg2000 files with 16bit are opened but rendert wrong. They should look like this: 8bit jp2 files are imported correct though they are imported without the alpha Chanel :( Sample Files: https://www.dropbox.com/t/PTG8RWGO2NGwxCcf http://www.lichtsch.eu/affinity_photo_jp2_bug/jpeg2000_16bit_lossless_with_alpha.jp2 http://www.lichtsch.eu/affinity_photo_jp2_bug/jpeg2000_16bit_lossless_without_alpha.jp2 http://www.lichtsch.eu/affinity_photo_jp2_bug/jpeg2000_8bit_lossless_with_alpha.jp2 http://www.lichtsch.eu/affinity_photo_jp2_bug/jpeg2000_8bit_lossless_without_alpha.jp2 the Files are created with Blackmagic Fusion using the ffmpeg extension so i guess it would also apply to any files that use the ffmpeg or openjpeg 2000 library best regards, Elmar
  6. When I create a picture frame and replace a .jp2 (JPEG 2000) picture, Publisher will crash immediately. The same issue if I use "File --> Place". If have a 2018 Mac mini, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD Process: Affinity Publisher [10589] Path: /Applications/Affinity Publisher.app/Contents/MacOS/Affinity Publisher Identifier: Affinity Publisher Version: 1.7.3 (1.7.3) Code Type: X86-64 (Native) Parent Process: ??? [1] Responsible: Affinity Publisher [10589] User ID: 501 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.14.6 (18G95) Report Version: 12 Bridge OS Version: 3.6 (16P6571)
  7. Last few betas had the same issue, since EXR is my main format I just stopped using the Photo betas and forgot about posting about it again. Some EXRs show up in the navigator (Quixel's do) but aren't rendered in the Canvas. Regular EXRs from Nuke don't render anywhere. ACES compliant EXRs don't render either. This bug is new to the 1.7 betas. The retail version still works fine with EXRs. Same goes for Jp2. You open a JP2 and both Navigator and Canvas stay blank. With the exception that Jp2s crash the retail version.
  8. I just updated to Affinity Photo 1.7.2 When I drag a .jp2 file into my document, the entire program just quits on me. I then get the notification that Affinity Photo quit unexpectedly. ***works fine when draggin .png and .jpg files into a doccument*** I'm using MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Attached is a video of what happens. 2019-08-28 09-42-43.mp4
  9. Today I tested the various TIFF variants and compared with JP2. In all cases I saved lossless when given a choice. Test file: 3664x2744px LAB 16bpc, original NRW raw file size: 15.6MB PSD: 57.5MB TIFF unpacked: 57.5MB TIFF LZW packed: 19.4MB TIFF ZIP packed: 17.3MB JP2 Lossless (Photoshop CS5): 35.5MB TIFF ZIP (Photoshop CS5): 29.1MB Anyway, it seems TIFF ZIP packed performs best. Much better than JP2 in Photoshop CS5. JP2 does not perform better at all in my tests here. Unless lossy JP2 files are used, which defeats the purpose of archiving the image data as-is, of course. One more thing to consider: JP2 files are very slow to process compared to TIFF ZIP and other file formats. Compression as well as decompression take much longer. In short: much longer processing times and larger files seemingly aren't favouring the use of JPEG2000. Even in good old Photoshop CS5 the JP2 file comes out bulkier than the TIFF ZIP version produced in Affinity Photo.
  10. Main jpylyzer results: statusInfo: True isValid format="jp2": True However, products.groupdocs.app/viewer/jp2 can't open the file, "Server failed to process the request".
  11. Hey @eWeinhold, I tried to open your JP2 file and got the same result as you. Then I tried some sample 16bit JP2 files from the web, and they opened just fine with AP. Maybe there's a problem with your file???
  12. Basically I can write a picture tag as per: <picture> <source srcset="img/image.webp" type="image/webp"> <source srcset="img/image.jp2" type="image/jp2"> <img src="img/image.png" alt="woof"> </picture> But also it's also just a matter of time until you upgrade. I would wager you're not going to be on Catalina in 2030, and I've been in this business long enough to care about the long game..
  13. About a month or so ago I posted a topic asking when APh was going to add JPF (JPEG2000) support. During the discussion I was told by several forum members that they were able to open files with extensions of JP2. However, all of my old JPEG2000 files had the extension of .JPF and I kept getting an error that this file type was not supported. This was most likely due to the JPF extension being only used by Photoshop. A couple of members pointed me in the direction of other programs and online services that would do the job but I found those programs cumbersome to use and I did not like doing online conversions since image theft is rampant on the internet. After much searching I finally found one program that is free and will open older Photoshop JPF files. It is called GIMP. Many of you probably know about it. In the past GIMP only supported 8 bit color depth, but in their newest release, version 2.10.14, they have now added 16 and 32 bit color depth support. They also added support for what they referred to as "Rare Formats". They did not state JPF specifically but I decided to take a chance and download the program. To my relief GIMP was able to open my older JPF files if they were already in RGB mode. Because GIMP does not support LAB color I had to use my Mac's Preview App to convert the JPFs that were in LAB to JP2 RGB. I then opened the JP2s produced by Preview App with GIMP and exported them to 16 bit RGB TIFF. The only thing I had to do before converting the JPF to TIFF was change the display resolution from the GIMP default of 72PPI to 300PPI so that the resulting TIFF would be at 300PPI. After the conversion using GIMP I was then able to open the new TIFF file with Affinity Photo and simply convert it back to LAB color before saving it to replace the original JPF version. Just thought I would alert all of you that there is now a free solution to the conversion of older JPFs in case any of you still have files in that older format. On an additional note about the conversion, if you have to use the Preview App to convert a JPF to JP2 set it for lossless to preserve all the original quality. I know that Affinity Photo can open JP2, but when I tried that the colors displayed were over saturated. I also tried using the Preview App to convert the JPFs that were in LAB color directly to TIFF but the Preview App would not give me a 16 bit option and the result was duller colors. By using GIMP to convert the JP2 to 16 bit TIFF the color saturation stayed original.
  14. Exporting with a fully transparent background via the alphachannel has to be supported by the respective bitmap file format. Usually the common plain JPG format doesn't support this (the alphachannel), only advanced Jp2/Jpeg2000 variants of JPEG! - For Affinity you've to use instead PNG/GIF for exports which do support this!
  15. How do I make cat images like these on the iPad in affinity designer? D61F57AE-2FBA-47F2-97C2-2153323297D5.jp2 D42B9C1E-962B-4FE7-8D51-1EA30CD45CD9.jp2 B11808E2-FF65-477A-8ECF-E751E2B1C8D7.jp2 3F8EE0D5-5878-41BE-AF03-EC2B6072AD89.jp2 E02D6AD5-CE30-4394-A186-EE20796C6528.jp2
  16. Yes - I realized that Silverfast has a config option to add one of a couple of grayscale profiles to the file. So, tried that: TIFF no profile: AP adds a D50 profile and the image looks good TIFF w/profile: AP uses the profile and image looks good JP2 with OR without profile: assigns RGB profile and image is random Example with generic gray 2.2 profile attached. AP v 1.8.6 Thanks! Test-jp2-prof.jp2
  17. Firstly, thanks for the reply. I've not seen a good 16bit file format where the images don't take enormous amounts of drive space. JPEG2000 was the best compromise as my scanner software only supports JP2 and TIF output formats in 16bit. I guess a JP2 to TIF conversion will suffice when I need to work the images (which is what I'm doing at the moment with a family photobook). I actually purchased Affinity Photo without first using the trial. My bad for sure but my Photoshop version is getting a little old and doesn't support the raw files from the camera. A time will come when I'm done with the JP2 files for photobooks and this limitation won't phase me.
  18. Are you absolutely certain about the resolution of this particular file? Because I saved a new jp2 version with lossless compression in PhotoLine, and the file size is almost identical to the original file you posted here. I assume you originally saved lossless jp2 files? The file you posted has no more pixels in it - it is what it is, as far as I can tell. When I save a typical Photo ~3600x2500 16bpc photo in jp2 with lossless compression the resulting file size is around 40mb - a far cry from your posted file. Anyway, I've attached the action. It converts the opened file to LAB 16bpc in PhotoLine. I've also included a version which calls the tiff save option to speed up things. I encountered a couple of small bugs related to jp2 files and batch processing, though. Would you be able to share a file which you are certain contains a higher resolution photo? If saved lossless, it should be at least around the 20-30mb mark. rgb2lab.actions
  19. I mean like the ones in these photos. And how do I make cupcake frosting with a cat. B790D034-9624-4CAF-BBDC-C03A2DC0DD49.jp2 424CB6D3-C8E1-4AA5-845E-BC11BF7CF5CF.jp2 54E4E733-B961-4F36-AFAB-E415F21EEAE3.jp2 B3F6C104-E36D-4B33-B92E-62C508A26D93.jp2
  20. Hi! Thanks so much for your response. I'm attaching three scans to give you an idea of the type of photos I'll be working with on this project. One is an agricultural field, another is a portrait, and a third is a group portrait. Basically I want to photos to stand out and be as clear as I can make them. I'm looking for suggestions for which tools/settings/filters I should be experimenting with to make and/or what tutorials I should watch to make that happen. I'm afraid I don't have enough of an eye/the technical vocab to describe in more detail what specific effect I'm looking for, so I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas. 21. FWIW, all 3 Affinity apps can open it, but in the Mac version of APub it can't be opened from File > Open (it is greyed out) but like with other raster image formats APub will happily open it via the Finder right-click "Open with" option. The same is true for any file I could open in the Mac Preview app & from it used Export to the JPEG-2000 format, even GIFs, PSD's, anything else Preview app can open. This gives the export a jp2 file extension. Also seems to work with JPEG2000 files with the j2k or jpf extension & maybe others -- basically anything I tested that on the Mac has a "Kind" of "JPEG 2000 image."
  22. Affinity Photo is not able to correctly open 16 bit jp200 files. It opens them, but the image is missinterpreted and covert with random noise. This error appers on WINDOWS _and_ MAC Versions. 16bit-jpeg2000-picture.jp2
  23. One more: https://convertio.co/jp2-jpg/ worked about 15 minutes to convert to jpg and came up with the attached.
  24. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Bug is still there.... 16Bit jp2 support is still Broken on Windows AND Mac Versions
  25. All of my JPEG2000 files were created with Photoshop CS5. The extension for all of my files is .JPF not .jp2 or .j2K. I currently use Affinity Photo version 1.7.2 I checked to see if it would update to 1.7.3 but it won't. That might be due to my running it on Mac High Sierra. I did try to rename one of the files to both .jp2 and a copy of it to .j2K but Affinity Photo 1.7.2 still will not open it. I still get the error that it is not a supported file type. If you're able to open .j2K and .jp2 it could be due to your using version 1.7.3 I don't know for certain, but since mine will not update to 1.7.3 it is possible that version 1.7.3 is not compatible with High Sierra OS. I know that some programs will not update if they detect an incomparable operating system. That was the reason I got Affinity Photo was because when I upgraded my Mac from Lion to High Sierra Photoshop CS5 quite working.
