  1. Thanks Lacerto. I just found your reply. I had already tried this and ran into the exact same problem as you. I used PDF Creator Online as they have a free pdf/a validator. As you, this method failed every test. However, from a template I created in Libre Office and exported directly to pdf/a -- every file passed the test. I had been thinking it might be the font I am using, but am pretty sure that will not be the case as the same font was used in Libre Office. I may still try changing the font but doubt it will make a difference. I have just finished some tests using pdfforge's PDF Creator Online. I exported from Publisher to PDF v2 and converted it to a PDF/A-3 at PDF Creator Online and it passed a validation process at the same site. Whew! And my file size remained low. They also have a free download of the free version. Haven't gone there yet. And there is also PDF Converter Online but they have restrictions on their free use as they are a subscription based company, although the prices aren't that bad. But I should go out and find another validator just to be sure. Thanks
  2. Is there a chance Affinity Suite will add export to pdf/a support. I am a genealogy person and am required to transcribe records and write some historical accounts etc. The file types the archiving world prefers are pdf/a (and its versions). As I understand, pdf/x (and its versions) work, although they carry extra information, and, likely will be required for the odd file I use, but I am wondering if they are creating larger files than needed. Whereas the pdf/a series may be a little more trimmed down. Thanks Aidren
  3. Would Serif consider implementing a "save to" or "export to" pdf/a and pdf/ua from Publisher? I wasn't able to find anything on the forum already. I ask because it just makes so much more sense, to me, to create a template in a publishing software as I will have more control over transcriptions and other textual material I have to produce. I do genealogy/family history, these days, and sometimes help with historical societies. The archival/preservation standards have and are changing to pdf/a and other preferred formats... dependent on the type of media etc. This page is only referring to textual works. These are changes occurring world wide. To date, most of the UK, US, AUS, NZ, EU countries... the list of members is formidable. The below image is from the Library of Congress. I surely hope I haven't missed something obvious, either in the software or on the forum. I haven't used publisher much to date but am enjoying how much I can do with it. Thanks Aidren
  4. Sorry for the delayed reply. I will look into LZW. Archival world standards prefer no compression, but I may decide to go there just to save on some space. Thanks again.
  5. THANK YOU CARL! I can't believe I couldn't figure that out. Wow... what an oversight. Now I understand why the files were growing when I put them through Digikam.... I am guessing there was no compression or it was stripping. Does that make sense?? Thanks again.
  6. I am embarking on getting many old photos scanned for my genealogy family history projects and decided to use Amazon Photos for storage as I have a Prime account. Weirdly, they list all the image file types but for tiffs it says "most TIFFS". Guess what..... AP tiffs will not upload. I have tried a work around by exporting a tiff from AP and then taking it to DigiKam and re-exporting. This works most of the time but the file size is often tripled. I know this is a big ask... but might the AP team have a look at this to see if there is a realistic and simpler fix. I use the Affinity products and want to continue. If I export to JPG it works. The problem here is the Genealogy and Historical world have archival guideline standards and they don't include lossy jpgs. Today, the top choice is still a tiff (not even a jpg 2000 or jpg xl). Thanks. Hope you may be able to help. AidrenKayce
  7. I would also like to see the pdf/a formats as well. The PDF/A-1a format is, apparently, fully compliant with ISO standards in the archival world. Aidren
  8. I am not able to finish a mask when in refine edges as the mask disappears and saves I have made are lost. When I close and reopen a lot of the masking touchups are not there and sometimes the mask reverts to the original version. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks Aidren
  9. Does this mean the end of the road for us with old imacs and old os's?? like 10.11.6??
