Marquis Tran Quoc Toan In 1282, Dai Viet emperor gathered members of all family clans to discuss the second invasion from Mongolian in Binh Than. He was 16, and the emperor said that Quoc Toan was too young to join the meeting, giving him an orange and told him to go home. As a result, Marquis Hoai Van felt so ashamed and stimulated that he crushed an orange with his own hand and began to mobilize his house servants and relatives for the purpose of fighting against the Mongolian. Tran Quoc Toan formed an army of over a thousand soldiers, creating his own flag with six characters:

"Phá Cường Địch, Báo Hoàng Ân"

meaning:

"Defeat the strong enemy to repay the Emperor's grace."

 

From 1282 to 1285, Marquis Hoai Van had proofed that even though he was young, but his spirit was stronger than anyone. Unfortunately, he died in Nhu Nguyen River Battle (Moon Light River Battle) for stopping the enemy, defending the bridge and protecting his soldiers. As a Vietnamese, Marquis Hoai Van Tran Quoc Toan always is an example of patriotism in Vietnam: participating and sacrificing himself for the country at very young age.
