The programming involved to do Windows version of the New Template dialog is not inconsiderable and with each build the mac implementation is changing considerably (as it affects all 3 applications), so until it has settled the parallel programming would be wasteful of resources and the saved time has been put towards bug fixes and other improvements.

Very few answers about how to use the Character, Paragraph, Color, Brushes, Swatches, Assets, Transform, Snapshots, Navigator, History, etc. Studio panels are app-specific. Same for the Move, Node, View, Zoom, Art & Frame text, Pen, shapes, & several other tools. Ditto for many of the Preference panels & for features like customizing the toolbar & Tools panels or Studio layouts (floating or docked, grouped or not, etc.).
Then there are generic questions about such things as Save vs. Save As vs. Export; which file types are supported for opening, saving, or exporting; which app(s) to buy for various uses & which store to buy them from; which drawing tablets are best; how cross-platform & cross-suite compatibility works; & so on. Add to that purchase related questions about refunds, discounts, & licenses.
I could go on but I hope you get the point: basically the apps are more alike than they are different, so what applies to one very likely applies to them all.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
There are plans to add scripting to the Affinity range, but few details have been released yet.

Are there any plans to add scripting support?
I notice there is no Applescript library at all but am interested to know if there are plans to add Applescript or perhaps Javascript support. Virtually everything we do as far as creating PDFs, packaging, placing images and text, formatting, proofing, sending pages to print etc is done via script.
Tagged text goes hand-in-hand with scripting so I think this needs to also be supported.

Hi All - not sure if this has been said already, but we will be putting a slide in the Publisher Beta welcome screen (Help -> Welcome) which will offer the pre-order for the additional discount for beta testers. This should go live tomorrow late afternoon / evening. This will allow anyone using the beta to claim that discount in the event they haven't received the email, and will also allow you to claim twice (or an additional time if you've already used your email voucher) if you want to get both the Window and Mac version at the beta tester price.
Note - there will be a pre-order offer slide appear in Photo and Designer tomorrow too, but it's only if you follow the link from the slide in the Publisher beta where you get the extra 10%
Hope that helps with some of these questions. We're incredibly grateful for all the support you have given us during the beta and are really keen to make sure you all get the opportunity to get the extra discount, and figured this was the best way to make that happen.
    Thanks,
    Ash

Internal and private testing has covered this functionality. We may have missed a few things (I hope not), but these personas have been looked at in detail.

Support will get back to you I'm sure, as I can see you are eligible. [ive just seen their first reply and have corrected them as you are eligible]
This Affinity Publisher pre-order has gone to everyone  who added Affinity Publisher Public beta to their  Affinity Store account before Sunday who we can email. However of that list, there are some beta testers who we have not sent the offer to, because they have unsubscribed from all communications in the past. That is over 10,000 contacts that for technical and GDPR reasons we cannot contact with this offer. However if any of them contact us directly we can provide the offer (to those who are eligible). Unsubscribing from marketing communications using the link in an email results in this inability to send offers. That may or may not be the case with you, but you asked me to make transparent who was eligible.

OdatNurd reacted to R C-R in Why does Affinity Photo have a "place" option?
FWIW, The Place command (or Drag & Drop) 'places' different things on the canvas depending on if the item is an Affinity format file, a "flat" single layer raster image file, a mixed content multi-layer capable file type like SVG or EPS, etc. Only flat raster image files are imported as "(Image)" layers; everything else is (I think) imported as an "(Embedded document)" layer. Editing the content of an embedded document layer is done in a separate workspace window or tab titled "<Embedded>" (as if a copy of the file had been opened normally) but it is still a part of the 'parent' document it is embedded in. It cannot be saved separately; closing the "<Embedded>" window or tab automatically applies the edits to the parent document. Alternately, an embedded document layer can be rasterized, but that flattens it & removes its layer structure, converting it to a single pixel layer in the same way doing that to an "(Image)" layer does.
Copy & Paste works more or less the same way -- what you get depends on what is on the clipboard when the paste is done.
Aside from that, Place differs from Drag & Drop or Copy & Paste only in that Paste gives you immediate direct control over the size & position of the item being added to the parent document. Since you can change the size & position afterwards anyway, it isn't a big difference but it can save a step, which is probably why some people prefer it.
Another possible reason is since "Place" is a command on the File menu, it can be given a keyboard shortcut. Since that immediately opens a window where the file to place can be selected, it works when it would otherwise be inconvenient to rearrange or uncover windows to do a drag, or when it isn't desirable to change the contents of the clipboard for a copy & paste.

FWIW, reinstalling an Affinity app (like many others) does not by itself remove any per user preference or other application support files you create by using the app. This is why reinstalling an Affinity app won't fix any issues caused by any problems in those files, & why one of the standard diagnostic techniques for locating the source of problems with an app is to create a new user account & open the app while logging into that account.
So while it may make you feel better, it isn't necessarily deleting everything you might want or need to 'clean up.'

    Affinity Online Help
Hello all, we're happy to be able to offer you an online version of the in-app help!
Access Designer, Photo & Publisher Help here: https://affinity.help
Here are some of the additional features we're able to implement as a result of having proper browser support:
Dynamic language switching: The help will determine your language and (if it's available) serve you a localised copy of the help. If you prefer to read in another language, however, you'll find a combo box at the bottom left which will enable you to change languages—and stay on the page you're currently reading. Print: Sounds simple, but with full browser support we can now implement printing of the topic pages. The print icon in the bottom left will give you a nicely formatted printout of the current topic. Share: Clicking the clipboard icon will copy the current topic's URL to your clipboard, which means you can easily point other people towards topics that may help them. Responsive: The help was responsive anyway, including off-canvas menu functionality so you could collapse the window and still read a topic, but this is taken further in this version of the help. The help is formatted nicely and usable even on a 4" iPhone SE screen. Search: we've implemented our own bespoke search for the online help which is fast and accurate. Access it via the tab system along the top left. Favourites: you can add topics to your favourites list to easily access them during future browser sessions. Simply click the + (plus) icon next to the "Favourites" tab to add the current topic.
With this online version you'll be able to print out topics and view them on your tablets/phones, which are two of the most common requests when it comes to help feedback.
As always, if you have any feedback or find any issues with this online version, please let us know! Hope you find it useful.

OdatNurd reacted to VectorCat in snapping is spotty..unclear why
I've been working with a file for 2 hours. I have everything related to snapping turned on, and when it actually happens, it's great. Sometimes it doesn't and I can't see why. I've changed no settings. I'll move an object or group closer and closer to a line - which is a snappable item - and AD lets me breeze right past it.
    Is there something I'm missing?

@firstdefense: thank you for the suggestion and the video clip.  It will certainly generate the result I am looking for.  Slightly cumbersome, but it will get the job done.  I appreciate your feedback.

@R C-R: In my application I will be sharing the eventual graphic with a third party that does not have affinity designer.  I’m looking for them to have a vector version of the design for scalability.  The disadvantage to the non destructive cropping is the fact that the invisible elements are still present in the graphic.  I’m trying to avoid any confusion for the end user of the graphics

Thanks to you both for taking the time to reply.

Serif do NOT save your credit card details. We save the last 4 digits of the 16 you entered, and your name, but not the security number, and a tokenized version of the transaction. This is standard practice and it is not enough to do anything further with.

To give some background, all responsible merchants shouldn’t be storing credit card information for over half a decade now…instead they swapped to credit card tokenization where a token is stored but the credit card information no longer exists. Our order gateway is Stripe, who are fully PCI compliant. For PCI-DSS compliance since June (summer of 2010), most Merchants started the journey of not storing credit cards natively in their database, some store the last 4 digits and then may store a token that links to the accompanying payment information to the gateway processor. As the token is only undecipherable using a private Serif owned Stripe key, that token would be useless to anyone but Serif.

We have to store this token to show you the card that was used to place the order and for legal tax reasons. However we do not have to use offer that token for your next purchase. At the moment you can replace a card when placing your next order but not remove the used one from being offered again (i.e. "delete the key" outside of an order). I think it is a very sensible suggestion to add the option to remove that token from being available future purchases by you. Being a new shop we have had a few useful suggestions like this that we will implement.

You could do it if you use Artboards and Assets.

Draw rectangles the size of the pages you want, then add them to Assets, maybe in a category called Pages.

Drag them from the Assets panel and go Layer > Convert Object to Artboard. Voila, page templates in any size you want, all in the Assets panel.

Hi!  Is there anyway I can save a custom page preset as a template?  For example, Facebook Page Cover template, Instagram Post template, Business Cards template, etc. with different sizes for each template.  I'm currently using Affinity Designer desktop.  I've tried to find answers and had no luck.  Did find this but it did not have the solution:
Please let me know - this would be such a huge help!
