  1. @MEGraphicDesign Yes I'm looking forward to that too, the last I got from the team was yes it is in pipeline. Yes I too would like the software to be kind of along the lines of Bridge in the sense it doesn't have to maintain a database. Update: I've seen a post on another thread posted yesterday that confirms that the team are actively working on an asset management app.
  2. Hi RJ21, I have used Affinity photo for a number of years now and I have never looked back as far as Affinity photos is concerned. I have recently purchased Designer too, there is a little cross over but they excel in different things so I say do it. The selection tools in both apps are very good if used correctly I find. The macro feature of Affinity Photo is excellent too, I use it frequently and have made many a macro to make life easier. Cheers Reggie
  3. Hi Evtonic, No a Beta is not just for new stuff, a Beta is simply a phase of testing to identify issues in the user domain, people who agree to taking a Beta are essentially user domain testers, rather than internal formal software unit, integration, regression etc testing. In a candidate software build internally, there would be at the start of the project, identified issues (bugs), or new features to which the team has been committed. The beta is a useful tool in the testing phase and we as contributors are Beta testers and on the way we may pick up not previously identified issues. When we report these issues to the team we are helping not only to improve the products but also give a confidence level to the quality, robustness and reliability of the product. It is only of any use of course if report the issues.
  4. Thanks Matt for the Designer Beta, I have since the early days of Affinity photo being using and testing the photo app Betas; I have only recently decided to purchase the Designer app. So far I'm having great fun with Designer and obviously there has been a huge amount of work done; so well done for the team's efforts. Unlike the photo app I'm a raw beginner on Designer so I have a lot of learning to do; to which I look forward :-)
  5. Having purchased Affinity Photo years ago I finally persuaded my self to buy Affinity Designer too. I'm glad I have as I have been having too much fun and not getting on with stuff I should be doing :-D Had a quick play with drawing a new profile icon for myself too.

  6. Is it the developer in me that makes this so much more believable .. just saying ..
  7. Thank you for your Christmas gift Eduardo :-D cheers
  8. Hi Peeps as far as I can tell the .afphoto files I created with version 1.6.7 (beta 1) can be opened with version 1.6.6, I know that might not be suitable for some depending on the features used but perhaps a member of staff can confirm / refute this. Looking forward to the next Beta, the team are doing great work well done :-)
  9. Hi Chris, Yes I concede you have a point about feedback coming back to the users and there has been little for a while unless Staff members are asked directly and they have given responses to indicate things are still going on. We can only trust what they say is sincere and I have not seen anything to counter this so far; by the way I have upgraded to MacOs High Sierra and have tried for example Focus stacking (sorry merging) which seems to work. I think the title of your thread is a little harsh but perhaps that's the point to get a discussion going :-D Cheers Reggie
  10. Absolutely Mac_Heibu can't agree more; As a professional software Engineer myself of too many decades to admit to, I say getting the kind of intimate commercial software development beta collaboration with the public is just not seen; it's just awesome. This kind of beta test collaboration with the public is close to open source development, with the exception that Affinity's actual software development is closed, as it should be. I have upmost respect with the Affinity team and now with increased software product development streams I'm still impressed by the team as they take on more and more. This I say as someone who knows; trust me. Remember peeps it's a two way process that we enthusiastic owners of Affinity products are prepared to be beta testers ... and yes testers that give feedback, i.e. we give as well as receive freely. I would rather spend time using the app with warts so I help in a small way to iron out those warts rather than being full of entitlement as I have no entitlement, I'm grateful for what I get. Keep going Team :-D
  11. Okay here is an example of a sketch taken from a photograph taken from within in the Art Deco building De La Warr Pavilion in Bex Hill ... link https://www.dlwp.com/ Hmm okay no file upload ... not working ... I'm getting upload skipped (Error500) Help!!!
  12. Oh whoops the link I put in has gone very strange, it's gone blank and now I have a blank space ?????
  13. This post concerns Affinity Photo only (Mac installation) I would like to share with you lovely people some methods to create a pencil sketch from a photograph as an opener to more discussion and ideas. Firstly I must credit Affinity Jack for the first method, Ciao Jack :-D I'm assuming a Mac installation of Affinity Photo There are a number of ways to create a pencil line drawing effect from a photograph; here are two quick methods as recipes, the fist one I discovered on the web from Affinity Jack; here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srNqGqVBkxA , I have seen this method in other places so I don't know who created this originally. The second one is a method I developed myself by experimentation. First method (Gaussian Blur) 1. load the file. 2. If the file is not raw i.e already processed as an afphoto file or a jpg/tiff/png etc go to step 3. Make whatever raw file adjustments you need to do then press develop and proceed with step 3. 3. Duplicate the initial background pixel layer (Cmd J). 4. Make sure you have selected the new duplicate layer; then invert the layer (Cmd I) 5. Select the blend mode of the layer and set the blend mode as Colour Dodge; note the picture will go blank white or you my see a faint outline ... don't worry step 6 will make it it clear ... 6. With the duplicate layer selected choose from the main menu Layer -> New Live Filter Layer -> Gaussian Blur Filter then move the Radius slider slowly to the right to reveal a sketch outline. 7 Once you have your desired sketch effect, make sure you have the duplicated layer selected and press Cmd U to give you the HSL shift adjustment. Move the Saturation Shift slider fully to the left to give you a black and white pencil effect. Second method (Edge Detection) 1. load the file. 2. If the file is not raw i.e already processed as an afphoto file or a jpg/tiff/png etc go to step 3. Make whatever raw file adjustments you need to do then press develop and proceed with step 3. 3. Duplicate the initial background pixel layer (Cmd J). 4. Make sure you have selected the new duplicate layer; then select Filters -> Detect -> Detect Edges. 5. Invert the layer (Cmd I) 6. Now with the inverted layer selected press Cmd U to create a new HSL adjustment layer and move the Saturation Shift slider fully to the the left to create a black and white pencil sketch effect. I have created these as Affinity Macros too (for non Raw files of course) but doing them from scratch gives you access to modification of layers within the process to give you more creative scope. The main difference between these two methods is that the fist one uses a Gaussian blur effect which gives you scope to increase the thickness and intensity of the edges but naturally is more blurred of course. The second method using edge detection gives crisper edges; try experimenting with horizontal or vertical edge detection and using adjustments to layers as you go through the process ... go on .. it's fun :-D I have also been plying with using the sketch to create a watercolour effect too, much fun with the free watercolour brushes. I haven't got a good process yet with the watercolours but I'm experimenting and when I get a reasonable process I'll share it. Please join in with ideas and or developed processes if you like; I'm having fun anyway :)
  14. Simply wow people, I just can't keep up with the new toys to play with, thank you so much.
  15. Great work Erza, they are clear and easy to follow; thank you for all the hard work.
  16. Hi team, just remembered I'm using a beta of macOS 10.12 Sierra, am I asking too much testing an early beta of Affinity 1.5? Just had a crash on the HDR persona but should I really be using a stable version of OS X?
  17. Sounds awesome, oh we'll have soooo many new toys, oh boy :-)
