  1. ..requiring us to go running to the layers studio? Sometimes you can select an item with the arrow tool..sometimes not. Is there a rhyme or reason to this? Thank you!
  2. I can select my shape, and change it’s stroke color but I can not apply a gradient to the stroke to save my behind! if I select the gradient tool, the object becomes de-selected. can somebody please describe the ABC of applying a gradient to a stroke? Many thanks!
  3. I want iPad OS Publisher as much as anyone. Until that great day happens, at least Designer has art boards and can therefore enable one significant piece of a page layout tool. my sense is that the programmers want to deliver iPad Publisher just as much as we want them to. It’s hard to be patient because we want to have on iPad arguably the greatest creative workspace in all of computering: Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher. I have no doubt it will happen.
  4. Is there a way to remove, as in to delete, from a document guides and margins I set, but which I no longer need? I can see how to hide the guides and the margins, but not how to remove guides and margins, from a document. Thank you in advance.
  5. I’m referring to the area around the artboards. the only option is blasting white. Ray-Bans country. Some either like to work in a darker setting, on darker art, and don’t need the blasting white throwing off their sense of light temperature and intensity while working on art. You need to zoom out; you don’t need zooming out to blast you with white LED light. Thank you
  6. I have a document loaded with art, all layers on. its thumbnail is a white square. can I make its thumbnail look like what’s in the document? Thank you
  7. oh that sounds like a good method..I'll need to try that, Charles Thank you!
  8. Possible there could be a crop tool to crop Designer documents to the size of the art? Or does a tool or method for this already exist by another name? Thank you!
  9. sometimes this works, yes. There seems to be a disconnect between User-given instruction and software executing said instruction.
  10. With styles already applied, type often does not respond to changes made to its style sheet. Often seems to be taking its formatting from the Type pallet. This could be more robust. Any clues on how to improve. Note: I am unable to take a screen video of this misbehavior because I am working on sensitive, proprietary information for a client.
  11. Does Publisher have the function that allows a new type style to be created from type which is selected and which has the desired attributes for this new style? If so, I'm not seeing it. Thanks for any clues!
  12. Today, I get the chance to use this feature on real work: sampling the "official" warning colors for a particular type of communication. No eyeballing, no climbing into the source code and jotting RGB recipes then typing them back in..just using the sampler organically and applying the sampled colors. Very nice.
  13. OP here; The dialogue box took me to the correct spot straight away. It’s under Screen Recording in Big Sur. I wasn’t confused about the where and what of turning this thing off; my Wacom tablet software made a similar - and to me, weird - request. While I like being consulted on such things, some such requests give me the feeling I’m handing over the combination to the Safe, so to speak. I tried the feature - turned on the bit that allows Designer to record - sample - capture (pick your verb) and it works well; I can see great utility in this function. I’m going to take ownership of my initial reaction to the alert I received. It isn’t Serif’s fault which phrasing is used in that alert box. Anyone paying even glancing attention to the news knows that there is something of a war for privacy going on right now, with the average person being swept up in a wave of advancing technology and little to no say about how it’s used, and about how our information is used / misused. I am trusted by clients to safeguard their information. Just imagine a conversation going something like, “you allowed a software application to record your screen?” < this is the kind of pressure placed by that ill-worded alert message. A person’s livelihood potentially on the line. I’m extremely comfortable using technology. I practice excellent security hygiene, and if anything that I let inside announces that it wants to “record my screen,” I will automatically be on alert. Life in 2021.
  14. Forgive me, but the fact that this issue is addressed in the FAQ does not make the story any better. Is the user allowed to review said capture before allowing it to whistle off to wherever?
  15. For everyone's information, I've reported this to Apple. I assumed it was result of something OS-side. The Apple Advisor shared my concern and said, "why would they want to do that?" If Serif wants to know how we use our macs and software, they can ask appropriately. This is just plain skeezy, and very jarring in light of the rampant disrespect of privacy being engaged in by various parties, per news stories you can read almost every day. The story that taking a recording of my computer screen - not a portion, but the entire thing - for the reason of color picker functionality..well... that dog don't hunt.
  16. Anyone else ever get this at any time, for any reason? Screen capture attached. I was working with type when this dialog box popped up. Severely creeped me out.
  17. Note: if I were to attack this fresh, I'd first get the outer selection done first, then go in and subtract from in in the area of hoses, or holes in wheels which need to be seen through.
  18. So, I get "Add" versus "Subtract" to a selection, but I have some how backed myself into a corner in which I can't tell what the selection "thinks" it's meant to do. I'm selecting a machine from its background. The machine has lots of hoses and so, lots of areas where you want there to be a hole in the selection. In an effort to get the best selection, I've zoomed in, and some how when I think I'm adding, the selection ends up getting smaller! It is not a matter of knowing what I want or seeing what I want. It's a matter of the lasso tool not producing what I need it to. I may have to scrub it and start over, but before I do, is there a method to help me gain control over the selection so that when I want to add to my selection, the selection actually does add? Hope I've explained myself clearly. Thank you for any tips!
