No artboards. I’m taking your suggestion to upload, and can’t wait to learn what my misunderstanding is.
Thank you!

I think you’re right, but...just to make sure I’ve exhausted all possibilities, I should ensure that all size/position values are integer, and if so, the slice size should be integer values as well, yes?
Is there any other bit that a newbie could overlook?
I have successfully created correct-size slice on the desktop version of Designer, but as I recall, it was a bit tricky there, too.
Thanks! -
In vector persona, with the object selected, the position x and y of the top left point/corner, is on an integer coordinate, AND the dimensions of the object are integer values.
Ad still, the slice dimensions have “added” pixels.
I am soundly baffled!

the strokes are all set to draw inside; IOW, the strokes don’t hang outside the perimeter of the shape.
thank you!

I have a very simple object: an envelop (icon) - just a rectangle with a few lines to indicate the flaps.
Nothing protrudes beyond the rectangle of the envelop, yet I’m told the slice is 1 pixel bigger in each dimension than it ought to be!
I know that if I’m over even just a wee bit, it’ll kick things up to the next whole pixel, but how can I conform with AD’s understanding of whether I am in fact bigger than I think it is?
my dimensions are even numbers and my positioning is to-the-pixel.
Eyeballing it doesn’t seem to be quite the acid test...
thank you!

can this be done?

Ok..apologies for appearing (or actually being) so dense..
turns out that, while I could see nodes with the letter object and pen tool selected, I hadn’t actually converted the letter to curves, tho I know I clicked that icon. I selected convert to curves from the Edit menu, and Shazam, the nodes got much bigger, and I am now able to grab, move, alter.
edit: I had actually clicked the expand stroke (squarish icon) and not the convert to curves menu item, whose icon looks like a french curve.
So, good to know, good to have gone through the process, but now I’m very curious what the benefit is to see un-editable nodes in the letterforms.
Anyone know the answer to that? A hearty thank you to all who helped me!

toltec,
that’s exactly what I’m trying to do, but only with the pen tool selected can I even see the nodes. When I select the node tool - or any tool other than pen, the nodes disappear. I’ve been using vector tools for a *long* time, so the principles aren’t exotic to me.
after converting the type to outlines, is there another step before choosing the node tool?
thank you!

I can convert type to curves and see the nodes/points, but I am unable to grab and manipulate them..certainty I am missing something very obvious.
thanks for any clues!

there are certain things which seem to cause a vector brush to lose or forget that it’s been set to vary stroke width with pressure. I have the apple pencil and vary stroke with pressure works beautifully. However if I need to “go out,” say to preferences, that brush is no longer set to vary width with pressure.
Is there a way to set a brush to retain whatever settings I’ve put until I “un-put” them?
thank you!

there is one thing i’m noticing. now that my fingers are seen as gesture-makers, sometimes zoom doesn’t happen without first panning; then I can zoom freely

yes, thank you for your patience..user error on my part.

meb - behaving correctly now. please see my post just before yours.

cursor change from brush to arrow; I didnt notice..

i am using apple pencil..after turning on touch for gestures only, the pencil is now seen only as a gesture-maker. is there another setting to adjust?

first off, thank you to the developers and to serif. I can scarcely believe the functionality and power packed into this app. and for $13.99 intro price?! Even at 5 times this price, one of the best values in the history of money itself! this great tool could single-handedly change minds about what this platform can truly do.
I’m drawing with a pressure-sensitive brush in vector persona, and not every time, but sometimes gestures, such as 2-finger zoom/pan, will be interpreted as brush marks, and 2-finger tap for undo will take a couple tries to actually undo. my drawing is neither large nor complex. when it happens, I see the 2 light-blue circles indicating gesture recognition, but then as I try to zoom or pan, a brush stroke emits from one of my fingers instead.
any thoughts?

I’m good with what I have. I could get a new machine, but that wont deliver next-level performance for what I do.
thanks!

thank you for the clarification..I’m happy not to spend money if it won’t gain me anything significant.

My 2009 mac pro runs AD very nicely..I’m considering a video card upgrade, to a GE 1050 ti 4 gb
Since AD is one of my 3 essential creative tools, I wonder if performance in AD would be improved by a better card.
thank you for any information!

Affinity Designer is my prime mover on OS X...will there be a counterpart for iPad?
-
It's sad to me that somebody had to make an inappropriate comment about the language a post was written in. It's taken this thread to a dark place.
-
Thank you..
what I'm angling for is more along the lines of whether the developers themselves know of any change to the such that they would want AD to take advantage of it, thereby requiring them to leave El Cap and other OS X versions behind.
OR
Whether something is coming down the pike from Cupertino which might "break" AD - something that often happens with OS X revisions.
Can any developers weigh in on this question?
Thank you!
Slice is bigger than my object

This discussion is pretty interesting.. Yes, tucking the smaller parts of the envelope under the main rectangle..not grouping but making them...children? < that results in a slice of integer dimensions.
what I don’t get - other than it’s an arguable bug - is why the separate parts sliced together make a slice larger than it ought to be?
Is it because of the way AD “sees” the various parts? Either a point or a line or a shape is within the perimeter, or it isn’t.
...unless it ain’t that cut-and-dried in AD’s eyes
Anyhoo, I’ve learned a functional workaround that’ll do until the bug is put in a jar and let out the back door.
And I thank you for the information that let my work move forward! I’m lovin’ using AD for iPad!!!
