  1. Great - just got the funding from my department cleared to purchase evaluation versions.
  2. Both applications have basically 80% of the tools I need. A must have feature for me is the art-board or pages option. Those are also on the readmap. I am curious if I buy Designer and Photo today if those features will be included in the next update or updates. The reason for me is there is no point in buying a version and later buying it again because of an update/upgrade. I rather just wait till it is ready for me. After weeks of testing both apps I am pretty confident that they will phase out my CS6 software.
  3. it is stupid that you cannot flip a selection it flips the complete layer content so it seems copy and paste it onto a new layer is what you have to do in Photo
  4. yeah I see the use of InDesign but Adobe AI is a joke compared to Freehand it clearly shows how Adobe wants you to by InDesign. If Designer offers pages with master pages like in Freehand they would have a true killer feature! I work in design not publication and we need big many artboards for design ideation and such and AI is ok at it not great.
  5. While InDesign is pretty good for what it does I rather have something like what Freehand offered. A work area with pages that can have different formats each with master pages. For small page numbers this is more than super ideal and specifically for concept and UI people InDesign is not even usable.
  6. @ Paekke LOL AI only got artboards and better path tools after they bought and killed Freehand. And pages in Freehand were better than what AI offers with artboards because Freehand also was able to apply master pages. But for that you need InDesign and you are stuck to one page format. ...
  7. Evaluating Photo and Design

  8. Hi Affinity team. I teach in industrial design and we do a lot of presentation boards. I only have Adobe CS 6 so I am not sure about the cloud version. My students often because they are too lazy or don't know better do complete boards in PS including text and vector and we all know that this is not a good workflow. Saving as PDF and opening it in Illustrator does not even allow you to edit the text and vectors created in PS. And that is where Photo is out standing. The fact that layers maintain their res despite what transformation you add, the fact that all vectors and text added in Photo can be natively edited also in Designer is firkin fantastic. Finally a workflow done right and not kept the same way as Adobe wants. When I was in high school for Mac there were many pixel and vector design tools but they all died out - so it is really great to see that there is again an option. Photo and Designer are two apps but because you share the same file it is less an issue than the Adobe solution. PERFECT JOB!
  9. ABC thank you showing me where the flip tools are and actually one does not need to use the quick mask to transform the selection just go to the move tool. However there are some serious issues with the transformation tools in Photo because a flip does not apply to the selection but only the layer. Here is a screen recording: https://drive.google.com/a/ckbrd.de/file/d/0Byzv_NlyKp_2MjYxbG1DUFNkM0E/view?usp=drivesdk
  10. I am quite stunned not to see an eraser ... I really wanted for this coming semester buy both serif products but with so many basic tools missing I could not do my work in the most common way. Well I will have to wait till they updated the two packages and finally implemented some common sense tools. The other stuff Photo and Designer have is pretty fantastic speed and workflow wise. So looking forward to it.
  11. the most important feature of art boards would be master pages like in freehand. Without that it would be a crippled tool like in AI.
  12. Look at what freehand was. That was an illustration and page layout tool till Adobe killed it! If affinity does not this I will remain with my Adobe cs 6
  13. ABC that works in quick mask but it is hardly useful because you can also not add more to the selection and Photo cannot even flip the content ...
  14. Hi Meb, I also use Fusion 360 a new CAD app for Mac/Win and after a lot of initial praise users get increasingly angry because while the software adds new amazing tools basic tools they still ignore. I know with time things will change but certain tools kinda should be common to have. Also problem is do I buy now AD and later after to buy it again for a version with better updated tools? That is another problem to consider.
  15. Hi Affinity team, Over the past week I extensively tested Design and Photo. My feelings are very mixed. For example I find it amazing and so perfect that both apps use the same file and also that in Photo layers can be scaled and that the rotation value always will be remembered. In general the UI is very clean and intuitive after a day I felt home. The pen engine is fantastic! However what frustrates me and blocks me from purchasing the application is the fact that not high end things but very basic tools are simply missing. For example in photo you cannot use shift and brush a line vertical or horizontal. Path when you create a selection will be deleted. There seems to be no way to edit rotate flip etc a selection or even scale manipulate just the selection outline. Specifically like in my area where you touch up many sketches or illustrations Photo seemed to be very promising but in the end results into more work than in competitive products. I know this sounds a bit negative but this is just my first honest experience with the product line. I hope at one point to see such missing tools be in the package because we in education also look at Affinity as a replacement for Adobe.
  16. I see - oh boy Looks to me I have to wait till the software is more mature. This is kinda basic being able to make single straight lines.
  17. in most apps you press shift in A Photo you continue a line ... how can you draw a straight line?
  18. Good to hear that - it seems to me to be honest that Photo has some amazing functions but with basic foundations you guys slacked a little and broke too much with established workflows.
  19. How can you rotate a selection in A Photo??? Edit menu has no entry like PS or Pixelmator
  20. I have to agree. I am blown away that AP does not offer white and black eye dropper and cannot adjust / move the mid gray tone. I work alot with sketches and scann them in and it seems AP is one of the worst tools here because it is more labor intensive.
  21. Am I right that Affinity Photo does not offer an eye dropper for white and black in levels / curves and also you cannot adjust the mid gray tone?
  22. In Photoshop you can draw you path and create a selection based on it or fill stroke the path and you keep the Path. When you do this in Affinity Photo the path is gone. Is there a way to keep the path by default? Otherwise this is very labor intensive when you have to always make a copy of the path first.
  23. It seems only solid lines are possible with path but no structured brush strokes like in AD? you can see in the image that with pixels in AP the textured brush works with a path it does not.
