  1. ah, nothing worse than when the client wants to have a hand in it. I feel your pain lol
  2. Glad you're getting the help you need! I was looking at your logo, very nice! Something I noticed tho, if you're interested: The emerald and imagery would look better if they were both the same length..the imagery sticking out a bit at the end kept drawing my eye. Also, the subtext would be better in a sans serif font to compliment the emerald imagery line. Looks great though, nice job!
  3. After trying LOTS of PDF programs, I can say I haven't found a single one that does color seps. Tried PDF Exchange, PDFSam, PDF Architect, Bullzip, Sumatra, PDF Creator, PDFill (which had the best value -$20- for pro if you can deal with the hideous interface) Foxit Reader (trial of Phantom PDF) Nitro..there's some more that I can't remember. Only program I've discovered is Callas PDF uh..something..anyhow it's just as expensive as AA. Horribly neglected field of software IMO. I ended up creating a PDF in AD, then handing that off to Scribus for color separations. Not perfect but it works.
  4. I couldn't download the file to look, so forgive me if this is a stupid question but is it possible that the Artistic Text properties are set to have a white background for the font color by mistake?
  5. nice work! Thank you! Yes, Ezra Anderson does great tutorials. I miss hearing his cheerful voice and seeing his 'fresh from rumspringa' face that he has. His wife does just as great a job with narration though.
  6. You're welcome and I hope it helps. A small suggestion, if I may..Prune your fonts folder :) I used to have thousands of fonts myself (i believe about 12,000) at one point and I decided to challenge myself to get rid of all but 2,500 (the limit of the free version of Maintype) and it really helped my productivity a lot. I realized I was just hoarding fonts, so I pared them all down to ones I was going to use in a project and ones I knew I was never going to use because they were horribly kerned or low resolution, etc. etc (which was 90% of them!) Suprising myself most of all, I now have 1,266 fonts. I like knowing every font that I have and that they are all high quality and I use them often. It's been much better for the workflow and performance of programs :) Hope your font manager works out after all!
  7. Totally feel your pain. The two solutions that worked for me are FontBase, which is freemium (free is likely all you need) and all my fonts show up and High-Logic MainType, which is also freemium. I use the free edition of it to load the fonts I use in a project and then they show up. NexusFont is also a good free alternative but I find it fiddly on Windows. YMMV.
  8. oh trust me, the market for us starving artists is by no means small Companies are really missing out by not competing more with Adobe on this. I have some alternatives to try out but I'm annoyed at having to sign up for a free trial. Erg. When I'm done being salty about that, I'll try them out and hopefully find a cheaper alternative to Adobe for color seps. @Dazmondo77 In the meantime, though, Scribus works just fine for me and it happens to be free. Not sure if it meets the needs of the OP, though.
  9. What I find difficult to understand is that Callas is the only game in town as far as the particular features the OP is looking for. And nobody is saying they want it for free. While that's always nice, for something like that, most people expect to pay but not all of us can afford Adobe prices and Callas prices. I'm happy for anyone who can, naturally.
  10. I've been researching this exact same issue for a while now and tried everything! except Callas because this starving artist will never be loaded with money enough for that! lol It's a ridiculous omission and almost absurd that more companies aren't trying to get in on this. I wish Callas had a 'lite' version. For separations, right now I take my file over to Scribus to do color separations and it does them fine but I'm not sure it can do them as advanced as you need. But it's free and open source so you wouldn't lose out to try! Good luck! And if you do run across a solution, PLEASE let us know!
  11. I thought I'd drop a couple of links to youtube tutorials for Affinity Photo that I have personally found to be of help when I was a brand new user of Affinity products. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn8kwOQhMJA Affinity Revolution with Ezra Anderson (who does great tutorials, especially for beginners) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQkmqMeCBmk with Jesse Showalter (also does great tutorials for beginners) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbgONOJHa0Y&index=2&list=PLllFqBuTM0WI8Pt47wBcg25gcYRufEnY8&t=0s another beginner tutorial Hope these prove useful to someone
  12. Would pay for a Linux version, absolutely. I hate using Windows and I'm too poor for Mac
  13. Sorry if I'm not seeing it but when I open APub Beta 1.70.227 it tells me to update via the forum thread, which i can't seem to find. Could be user error lol.. Please assist :)
  14. Great tutorial! I was like..isn't that an alpaca? lol Seriously though, useful as always and I learned a couple things. The color picker tip is great and the clone stamp tool tip is very cool! And I'm also now wondering why it never occurred to me before to use a color vignette! You have a great voice for tutorials and a cute puppers too! Subscribed!
  15. Thank you for expanding on that. I only knew what i read about the 2018 ipad pros.
  16. It's a feature limitation on the ipads (the new ones at least). To move files to anywhere but iCloud, you will need a wireless flash drive to transfer your files. The next update of iOS may or may not address this issue.
  17. Thank you for making a site for Affinity resources!
  18. hmm yes it would indeed be a nightmare if there were many lol
  19. Great job @kx08 quick question though..if you wanted the stars to all have the same direction while duplicating, how would you go about that? In your tutorial, the stars end up rotated in different directions but what if you wanted them all facing the same, top point up?
  20. 15 years out of practice speaking English? Well, you did great!
