Boldlinedesign --- you nailed it as far as I'm concerned - all the above would give us the bare basics to complete work solely using Affinity - vector-based distortion tools would also be my most needed "NEED" - Mesh fill would be a nice addition for version 2 or 3 as there are really easy workarounds to achieve the same result now - simplify path tool would also be handy

I appreciate all the things Affinity is adding in to Designer/Photo/Publisher - I love that it's not just like other vector apps - things are well thought out, efficient and streamlined.
Loving the new 1.9 features so far.
I have no issue with a mesh fill tool/feature, but I agree with the others, it's a lower priority to me than other vital features that would allow me to switch fully to Affinity full time.

Everyone has their own biased list of "most important"  features - but there seems to be a strong consensus that we need vector-based distortion tools for objects and text, pure 100% vector brushes, cleaner boolean operations - (each time I add several expanded overlapped strokes together it leaves a mess of unattached nodes, sometimes the pieces i am adding together disappear entirely)
Maybe less important to others but certainly vital to me - a vector eraser tool, smooth tool and blob brush equivalent (vector work can be more "artistic" this way) and a more professional print setup

Down the line adding a 3D effect or the mesh fill tool/feature once the most universally needed tools are added that allow us to let go of Adobe and Corel and other fully.
    Just my thoughts

Forgot to add sticky settings to that feedback. I use some specific settings for some tools that support sticky settings that get remembered on start-up, so having Studio Presets remember the sticky settings would be another fantastic feature! You would even be allowed to customise your sticky settings based on individual presets, thus making it extra convenient when doing very specific types of work. ^^

Yeah it's unfortunate it has taken this long to correct the feature. I'm not usually keen to complain, but Expand Stroke is such a major feature for shape-building. It's part of my "typical" workflow. I tend to keep my simpler designs for Affinity Designer and anything super complex, I do in Illustrator because I tend to run into too many bugs or limitations. I still prefer Designer as Illustrator is getting rather slow & clunky.

Is it possible build press-ready documents in the Affinity Suite apps where one can control the inks used (CMYK and spot inks), and where one can both proof the color separation, and be able to output black & white color separation files complete with registration and printer's marks?

    Two weeks!
Everything you need will be done in two weeks. (See The Money Pit.)
Seriously, no one can tell you 'when'. And there are already other threads about this. While we anticipate possible new features, our contribution should be well thought-out ideas about how the desired feature should work and perhaps how it could improve upon standard-fare. 'Perspective Tool' is vague because 'perspective' is a broadly generic term. Multiple treatments exist for 'perspective' drawing, some more geometrically valid than others.
The most exciting 'new wrinkle' I've seen in the 'perspective' context in a long time (since the advent of FreeHand's Perspective Grid, which was much later poorly mimicked in Illustrator) is Lazy Nezumi; a utility application that acts as an 'interface overlay' to geometrically translate your gestures to most any 2D graphics program you're using. But that's an entirely different thing from an envelope-based warping feature.

Even a very basic 'destructive' vector distortion tool would be great and really should have been available years ago - still no light at the end of the tunnel

I use the blob brush all the time. It would be a welcome addition - especially if coupled with vector pattern fills.

I've found a lot of lack of consistency among Affinity Suite programs.

This is one of them. We still don't have Non-destructive Mesh/Perspective in Designer, but there's a Perspective Live Filter in Photo... 🤦‍♂️

+1 I'm also waiting for vector brushes before I completely abandon Adobe.
In particular i need something like the "pattern brushes" in Ai.... the ability to add any vector graphic to the brush palette and create repeating brushes, along with the ability to create corner tiles and end points.

Sorry for being late to the party. I just recently switched from Adobe CC and was working on my first full project when I stumbled upon the dreaded "vector" brush of Designer. Ugh, I am lucky that I had used a simple brush in my design and it only took a couple hours to recreate the look in true vector form.
This knowledge may have stopped me from switching to Affinity. To not have true vector brushes is archaic. My ability to produce true vectors to clients is vital to my work and I have done a lot of my work with strokes. I truly pray that this is resolved in the very near future, or I may have to resubscribe to Adobe

    Yes very frustrating
Yes - been requesting since first release?!?!?!
I have to say as there years slide by I find myself turning less and less positive towards Affinity, as I think my first set of posts when this forum was first made available, was the need for a fair few things including true vector brushes and a blob brush along with my No1 missing "feature" Vector distortion / perspective warping, I say "feature" as I wouldn't class any of these as features, I see them as bog standard vector tools for any software that classes itself as a professional vector application -  I have been trying to keep positive, especially when receiving any kind of moderator feedback and seeing that old list of goals for the future - I used to just try and be patient - thinking what are we gonna do if it takes two or three years for these basics to appear  ---- FIVE YEARS LATER ----- and now it pisses me off that I have to use the ten year old (and considered obsolete) Illustrator CS5 to plug gaps - I just wish Vector styler was as easy to use as Designer as it has all the basics (including vector brushes,  Vector distortion / perspective warping) along with lots of other "features" it looks like it's been in development for around two years and it's not even released yet

The free beta of VectorStyler is very help in filling the gap where Affinity Designer lacks a Mesh Distortion/Warp/Transform tool.
I was able to create a shape, warp it and then just copy and paste into Designer as an editable vector.

Not the right decision, considering these are 'pro' applications and a lot of print houses do actually run many internally produced jobs direct to film/plate/digi press from InDesign or Quark - This is the first bit of feedback I've come across from the Affinity team that have addressed these concerns which I've been harping on about for a few years - I just assumed pro applications would send a CMYK job to a CMYK printer with less issues than a consumer inkjet - I've had my Xerox Phaser 6180DN for around 13 years which produces pretty accurate CMYK output and was shocked at how bad the print quality was from Affinity apps, all pure cyan magenta and yellow colour bars ends up with a noticeable dot of other colours when output from affinity plus vector information looks like its pre rasterised before it hits the printers postscript RIP - whereas when outputting from any Adobe / Quark / even an old copy of Freehand on an old mac gives pure CMYK colour bars and nice crisp reproduction of vector information  - My biggest concern here is it's another reason to hang onto Acrobat pro 9 , so in order to have faith in my workflow I still have no option but to stick with El Capitan - I've freelanced at a few print houses over the years and have found it frustrating how you come across production macs, that in some cases, still run mac OS as far back as Leopard which is too old for Affinity apps, yet they have complete faith in their 'old' workflows ---- As I would now describe myself as a Affinity Fanboy, I really hope the team eventually roll out professional print output - I just feel this could be a push for all those print-shops to upgrade

Call me crazy, but what about showing an accurately rendered PDF, displayed on the page? Like InDesign does. Like Pages does. Like Word does. Like Uncle Bob's BrochureMaker™ and every other app in the world does.

Maybe a low rez preview with passthrough watermark would enable the user to export with a bit more confidence - it would also be useful for a backup plan for when the inevitable deadline takes a dive, simply because of PDFs not passing through, so maybe a quick rasterise in place function???

I absolutely agree with the point you made earlier in this thread, Jens! 🙂
I just meant to provide an example that can explain why it is essential to have the non-interpreted version of a placed PDF displayed in Affinity Publisher. In my example, I exported a PDF with Erica One from Publisher, disabled the font, and placed the PDF back in a different Publisher document. Now, what can you do with the placed file, when the typeface is replaced by Lucida Grande? There is no way to create a consistent design context in which the placed PDF could play a role. You simply don’t see what you get. I fear the current approach will be met with strong reservations, should it find its way to the release version.
I must also confess, I didn’t understand completely what Adam said in his earlier reply. As far as I understand, the development team would like to stick to the idea that the PDF interpreter is responsible for displaying the placed PDF on screen. And to achieve WYSIWYG, they are planning to improve the PDF interpreter up to the point where the interpreted PDF is visually identical to the source PDF, in particular by finding a solution for embedded fonts. Of course, if that’s achievable, it would be a satisfactory solution. But I think it’s clear that PDF passthrough, in its current state, would cover a rather limited range of use cases in real-world contexts.
