Dazmondo77 reacted to kemie in Create Your Own Fonts
To make a font you need a LOT of functionality, not only to draw the characters, but to set encoding, spacing, kerning, etc. I'd much rather Affinity focused on other features and left type design to other apps.

I admit I do not often have the problem of missing fonts, so it didn't occur to me immediately. Thanks for pointing me into the correct direction.
Well, there's always room for improvement. Good luck.

That is correct @Dazmondo77; I apologize that that wasn't clear in the first post.

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from A customer Serif lost in When will Perspective tools be available in Affinity Designer even though they are already in Affinity Photo?
Even a very basic 'destructive' vector distortion tool would be great and really should have been available years ago - still no light at the end of the tunnel

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Gear maker in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.9.0.4)
Brilliant feature but I'm struggling a little as it seems way to easy to rotate by accident at present with an apple magic mouse, although I have a shortcut in place to reset rotation. what would be even better was if we had the ability to change or add to the shortcut, for me personally I'd prob go for CTRL, CMD and mouse scroll

+1 for a free-transform tool.
I was about to buy this software as a illustrator alternative. I love the workflow of this software but the lack of this tool is a deal-breaker.
Shame, I'll try the inkscape workaround.
Implement this feature and you are instant-heroes !

Dazmondo77 reacted to Joachim_L in Undeletable default palettes
Me thinks, that I read (or even posted) this somewhere?!? It is not possible to delete the default palettes Greys, Colours and Gradients in 1.9.0.798. In the current betas of AP and AD it is possible.
IMHO having these default palettes is a bad idea. Who needs a colour palette full of HSL colours? Or best proof from a forum post lately: A user created a CMYK document, picked Black from the Greys palette and was desperate, that he/she/it got a rich black instead of 100% K.
Best would be (my opinion) to show default palettes depending on the colour format. Say Red, Green, Blue for RGB or Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Registration, White for CMYK. And I would like to load spot palettes when I need them, not having them as default.

Dazmondo77 reacted to Jowday in How do I warp text in Affinity Designer?
It would all make sense without this kind of marketing and the hype started by... Serif:
And yet boolean operators and expand stroke are not stable or deliver professional output after five years (and the company has 20 years of experience with vectors so lets count experience in!!!) and the toolbar offers no help for vector work.
All this from the ULTIMATE graphic design and illustration app (false), a pro-end workhorse (false), with all the tools you need (false), with five years of refinement (not of basic tools like booleans ops). No boundaries crosses, no revolution.
If people come here and point out that they feel something is missing after reading this loud, inflated city market marketing - I understand why. Let people discuss freely in a forum.
Regards someone who just returned from hard but satisfying day of results and few workarounds in... Adobe Creative Cloud. To a hobby project waiting for quite a few critical bugfixes in Designer to be released before I dare moving forward and saving.

Pariah73: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Serif and Affinity. I use their products daily to produce work. I even bought products (Publisher, iPad Designer and Photo) that I can't/don't use just to support the company and its wonderful efforts. Here's the concern: When we bring up these basic features that are missing, there is no feedback or response. Will they be added at some point or not? Is the company hearing daily users? Do they realize that while we can work around or live with missing features for a while, it would be nice to know that someone is listening and perhaps if and when they might be coming. Just that would make all the difference. In any relationship, communication is the key 🙂. BTW, the snarky comments from Affinity preview version testers — I am not referring to you — who seem to regard themselves as our betters, don't help and just turn people off. Just FYI.

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from RenWaller in Font Search
I would imagine RenWaller is probably requesting the same font search capability when you open a document or PDF that doesn't have the correct fonts - really bugs me too that you can't just type in the first couple of letters, having to physically scroll through hundreds of fonts gets me down too

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from guywholikesaffinityapps in Vector brush
Still waiting for true vector brushes - all but the basic vector brushes are actually rasters along a vector path, which is pretty useless for creating vector artwork and is a much requested feature - I still use an ancient version of illustrator to plug the gaps

It works fine in the main document if things are grouped and like you showed if you advance the records it is fine, a bit of a tweak on the generate code should allow it to work properly. Hopefully one of the Devs will pick up on this.

Rolling my eyes. We are not supporting a poor company in a third world country that hasn't got the funds to implement such features before several years pass. Affinity got both a lot of attention and hype and went far beyond a critical mass of paying customers. They are doing just fine. Wake up and smell the coffee!
This is not a kickstarter. You are paying customers and remember that this company is decades old and made similar more mature software with these features until recently (plus series). Did so for many years. You don't have these features because someone decided you shouldn't. Yet. Or ever. You don't know. It is all about business priorities and scaling. Designer obviously gets the least attention and features. I still don't believe Serif has the vector expertise or the required number of developers with this expertise to push Designer further in bigger steps than we have seen (tiny steps). I don't see the evidence. Publishing software was always Serifs pet project and flagship product so lets see if Designer ever gets the love and features it needs to become more than a tool for digital painters (bitmap). Niche software. Half of Designer - the pixel features - are shared with Photo. 99% of vector brushes are in fact pixel brushes. The other half is so feature weak it is depressing. The toolbar in the designer persona is mostly shapes. Shapes!
So it it perfectly valid to air criticism and wishes here. The very high number of posts with feature requests and customers asking in disbelief why nothing happened about this and that yet tells a story about where Designer should go to evolve and serve existing and potential customers. Stiff opposition from a core base of forum users (of which ever so few are more than hobby users with simple hobby needs and no insight whatsoever into more professional use and needs) is just not what is needed for Serif or from the customers requesting these features. It is ludicrous.
Cheap doesn't matter. As a vector drawing program Designer is not cheap because it has so few and just basic vector features. It doesn't cost "coconut money" whatever that is. Possibly an offensive term in Sweden. Designer is a simple product and you get only what you pay for. Not much more. Besides the great user interface that Serif really did well. Many small programs are actually often overpriced when you see how much you get for four times the price in professional software. But you will never reach that level of knowledge without experience and expertise. What REALLY is expensive in the short and especially long term is workarounds. Again something hobbyists doesn't see or feel.
So let the customers voice their concerns, wishes, criticism and input. Let Serif handle its unsatisfied (potential) customers and communicate the reasons for this and that. In a more professional tone.

I don’t need a forum police. I need free transform, distort, envelope distort. Whatever it is called, we need it.
A lot - LOT - of posts are created and replied to by active or potential (!!!) Serif customers because the feature is extremely missed, needed and anticipated.
CREATE. Don’t patrol.

You're right. No rocket science. However - many of the issues can be defined so differently that it is hard to find them. I call it "free transform", you may call it "perspective deformation", another one "3D distortion".... endless...
However: we can shorten this: it is as it is, let's work with it! Give my best to guess the right topic.

Dazmondo77 reacted to abra100pro in Free transform
My number on feature request is free transform of any element - see movie. It would be a quantum leap in vector design.
