Dazmondo77 got a reaction from nonresidentalien in Unnecessary super-low-resolution rendering of vector objects copied to clipboard and pasted in non-Affinity products
Some thing appears to be broke with 1.9 clipboard which was reported earlier in the year, I'm guessing it should be fixed soon - not sure what the problem is but for me, copy pasting from affinity to illustrator or VectorStyler now converts CMYK to RGB which always worked great in past versions and kept CMYK percentages, providing you had the same colour profile set - fingers crossed for the next round of betas as I have a big job coming up which needs a lot of vector distortions and this bug will cause a ton of grief

Please don't.
I would expect them they did that long ago.
My impression being their bigger worry currently being to find qualified developers willing to move to Nottingham, UK.
And my gut feeling in that regard being that the Brexit nonsense doesn't help much either.
Please point me to the competition that is compatible with MacOS El Capitan and later and that can do what Affinity StudioLink can.
Because that's why I'm now in.

Damn right
But seven years is a long time to tolerate temporary workarounds especially when in 1.9 those workarounds now need further workarounds because of a recent colour bug....
Moan moan waffle blah......😶

It’s kind of got to the point that the only way I can fathom out why we don’t yet have any form of vector distortions is probably because it can’t yet do it - I gather they started development in 2010, and for any software company who decides to build brand new vector design application aimed squarely at pros, vector distortions / Free Transform / Perspective & Warp Tools or whatever you want to call it would be pretty high on the features list, my guess is they must have been working on this from the start and maybe judging by the problems with boolean operations in the past maybe it’s still too glitchy for release - it will be seven years since release on the first of October —— gradually losing faith

As a amateur I also have an impression that AP is far more functional, has much more features and even though I don't know how good it is for professional work I feel that for the non-experienced user it's really great app, it's really worth it's price - actually it's price on current sale is fantastic.
I've just retouched a lot of my wallpapers, it was quite easy, fast nad far more pleasant that it would be in GIMP
Unfortunately I feel that AD is really, really weak. OK, it has great UI, especially comparing to Inkscape, but some missing tools are really essential not only for professionals but also for amateurs!
Sadly, some must-have tools for pros seems to be less important from my perspective and vice versa. I really miss eraser, knife, shadow, envelope, extrude and first of all mesh fills, but not necessarily all these fancy path and line tools or adding dimensions....
So it will be still many unsatisfied users no matter how many new features they add...
...but some unhappy users are stil better than having all of them disappointed

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Christina_Em in Booklet not centering
Affinity print engine isn't currently upto the job (surely they aim to improve it?) so the solution would be to create a pdf and open in Acrobat reader to print, which will print as expected with all the options you need to centre, + prints vectors and text nice and crisp with proper colour support + it's free - downside: its ADOBE 😖

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from QBerenguer in Some Basic Tools which are Missing in Affinity Designer and Must be Included in Affinity 2.0
all above 'nailed'
Off the top of my head, would also like to add:
Proper, end to end, vector brushes
Proper separation preview
Ability to print CMYK to postscript devices
-
Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Wosven in Add used colors
That would be really really useful
Just an option to force globals document wide or an app wide tick box preference which defaults Affinity to global would be a massive time saver, although I've been waffling on about this for years and not heard of any comeback from the moderators
Select same is a great gateway to sort out this kind of stuff and is probably my favourite addition of the missing basics over the past 4 years

Dazmondo77 reacted to Wydra in separation preview and total ink limit preview
As affinity products are good for designers , they have a lot lack of tools for DTP verification of documents.
Can we expect separation preview in Designer and Publisher and used ink limit preview ?? thats fundamentals tools.
maybe some trapping tools for profesional look of apps

Dazmondo77 reacted to Wydra in Add used colors
Add used colors shuld add colors to liblary as global colors, other way it is useless >> I have colors without info - connection to objects, so I now that color is used in document but I dont know where ??

Yes please -
Only current options is ADOBE or Callas pdftoolbox(£500) - I use acrobat pro 9 which is ten years old and 32 bit but it still does the job to preview separations and check PDF compliance and all the stuff you NEEEED to check before sending off to your print service provider - you can also output proper vector CMYK proofs from Acrobat (and acrobat reader) which is something you can't do in Affinity apps (WHAT!) this really needs to change, five years is a long time to wait for basics

Well, sure, but in my case I like to do freeform cutting, painting, and erasing because I use vectors as a base for silhouette painting and colouring in my drawings. If they can make something like the Pencil Tool that works as a cutter with the option to create straight lines for jagged edges then I will be at least satisfied.

Erm.....
I would like to use a knife tool like a knife, meaning I draw the blade across a Rectangle and I now have two items. No need to draw the line then click on Cut thing below/selected using this line.
Having said that I would also like the ability to use and reuse a shape or curve to slice things up repeatedly.

Agreed on all points. I would also like to add a blob brush, an eraser brush, and a knife tool to that list as well.

I have nothing against adding animation, but way way down the line after we have all the planned but still missing basic features that some of us need to do our jobs

I have recently shifted from Adobe to Affinity. Most of my work is related to Designer, I use Photo occasionally. I’m very satisfied with it overall. I can do pretty much everything on Affinity which I could do on Adobe. But I have noticed that there are some very basic tools which are missing in Affinity apps. Here, I’m making a list of those tools. My request to Affinity decision makers & developer team is that, please include these tools in Affinity 2.0 as designers are desperately waiting see these in Affinity (Most of them are just related to Designer but some are missing in Photo too):
Freeform Gradients Gradient Mesh Tool Vector/Pattern Fill Shape Builder Tool Live Tracing Perspective Distort/Free Transform RTL Languages Support Blend Shapes Inefficient Boolean Operations 3D Text Tool Simplify Curves Live Mesh Warp Filter -

Well, seems that affinity won't do this feature anytime soon. Either they can't do it (The way affinity works and will need to change a bunch of stuff that will take a lot of effort to do) or they simply don't care. Yes, there are ways to do it BUT those are complicated ways for the beginner user, so why not just do it so we can stop nagging about it? Other programs have it, so why not affinity? Come on guys! It's been YEARS since people began to request such a feature.

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Jung21 in Link layers
I'd use tag colours for all the layers you need to link then use 'select same tag colour' which selects all items or groups scattered throughout your layer stack
Alternatively - give all layers you want to link the exact same name, for instance 'link' then click on one of the named layers then select same name and resize / recolour or whatever

While I could see the use for such feature, the way it was asked here rubs me the wrong way. Nobody here (except from the staff, of course) knows jack sh!t about what it takes to develop, test and support such feature, specially without even seeing the code base.
Also, @loukash, thanks for the laughs! 😂

My correction/mistake...
Select > Select Same is not available in APhoto
But Select Same Tag Colour is available in a right-click menu in the Layers Panel
